The scores look strange because when I setup The Rock course on this site, I only intended for it to be 12 holes, but we added those final three holes (13-15) in order to try to accomodate more people on the course the day before. Basically you can just subtract 8 from your positive score. The par also changed by 1 because one of the holes on the original layout would have been a Par 4. So par for this course was 45 where the original layout was going to be a 37 for 12 holes. Sorry for the confusion, it only affects the scores, not the point totals.

It is official, I am cancelling the final week of league March 30th rather than going up against the 1st ever sanctioned tourney at Estabrook. Two of the division leaders and myself all felt that was the best course of action and judging by todays attendance (4) another week at Dineen would not have likely brought a large amount of points. While I don't like changing a schedule I have had produced for 3+ months, it seems to make sense in this circumstance without negatively impacting the integrity of the league.

Next week Sunday March 16th we will be playing the temporary course at The Rock Sports Complex which is being setup for the all day party on Saturday March 15th. There will be no additional charge for the use of The Rock because I requested that as part of my agreement with them, so PLEASE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY and if you cannot play Sunday, be sure to come give the course a chance on Sunday for league. The Rock would love to see people out there because it will likely help them decide if investing in disc golf on their property is something that they can add permanently.

Ok everyone, this week we will be playing Dineen as planned. I hope to get there early to help clear some more level areas with the melting snow today. I could use some help to go through one of the 9's as I am not sure I have time to do all 18 before we play. If you can come and bring a shovel, just do the best to provide a level area where we teed off this past week.

Next week I have arranged for the baskets to be left up at The Rock Sports Complex (where I am hosting a tournament on Saturday March 15th) so that we get a chance to play this unique layout for this league.

The schedule called for 2 additional weeks after that, but with Dynamic Discs throwing the first ever sanctioned tournament at Estabrook, I feel like I don't want to compete with that tournament so that everyone has a chance to attend that tournament if they want. Please give me your feedback, I hate changing schedules when they have been published for so long, but this seems like a worthwhile reason to cancel the final league session. We could also allow all those playing in Milwaukee Madness at Estabrook a chance to use that score for Sunday Snow Throwers, but I don't want to force people to play this tournament just to get league points. I need your help in making the right decision for this league with the consideration of the tournament. Let me know.

Lucky Week #13 took us to Dineen where we dealt with snow/ice covering the teepads. I even drove by on Saturday to check things out and I realized I would not be able to clean off the tees let alone find some of them.

We normally are enjoying Dineen this time of year because it can handle the traffic better than Dretzka and Estabrook during the spring thaw, well that thaw is a little bit late apparently.

We will stick to the schedule and continue with Dineen this week and the final two weeks, with a field trip to The Rock Sports Complex (By Root River) for Sunday March 16th. There is an all day end of season party at The Rock on Saturday whcih I am hosting a tournament on a temp course setup, and part of the agreement I had with The Rock was for me to leave the baskets up over night so that this league could play the course on Sunday and they agreed to that, so this will be a first . . . a chance to play league on a course that isn't permanently installed.

Either way I hope to see more of you the next couple weeks as the weather should be coming back to its norms soon. We will wrap this league up on March 30th because that is about the beginning of tournament season. I will be running my Manic Mondays league at Valley View again this season, come on out and experience all of the different formats we play. I also am taking over Pete Parsons league at Estabrook on Wednesdays since he has decided not to run a league this year. I am having a meeting for that league on Wednesday April 2nd at 6:00PM to discuss what type of league that should be. I am happy to run virtually any type of league, but I want to make sure those that were accustomed to playing on Wednesdays will enjoy whatever format is decided.

Week #13 Recap
In Open:
Yes those numbers are correct, Mike Janowski has a 43.5 point lead over Bob Bawden and another 5 points over Scott Mushall. He extended his lead this week as neither of those players came today. Mike shot a (-3) on the day and was the only person under par. Taking second this week was Keith Hensley who shot (+3).

In Intermediate:
Yes those numbers are also correct. Mike Wright also holds a 22 point lead over Greg Klein and another 2 points over me. Mike Wright, Aaron Schultz, and myself all shot (+7) today and I am sure we all thought about how we could have saved one throw . . . so we ended in a 3 way tie and basically got our own money back.

In Recreational we had the workhorse Nick Williams continue to solidify his divisional standing. He has attended almost all of these leagues and his point lead is 7 over Dan Gerick and 8 over Greg Weber. It could get interesting if we get a good turnout the last 4 weeks.

Thanks to all who came, and I hope we can get some better temperatures the final 4 weeks and we can get a good turnout and see some points exchange hands in every division!

OK everyone from this league on facebook . . . I had a couple requests to move league from Valley View to Estabrook to help accommodate for the tourney taking place at Estabrook at Noon to help raise money for a local disc golfer who recently lost his fiance. Thom Morrison is the local and he would love to have as many of you all show up tomorrow at Estabrook by 12:00 PM. I had asked to have the start time of that tourney moved back to Noon before I left for vacation (and Darrin Ferguson Sr. accomodated me by doing that) and I figured that was enough to give people a chance to get from my league at VV to Estabrook for that tourney. It only costs $10 (I think) and all of the funds will help Thom out with his expenses. PLEASE show him some of our local Milwaukee disc golf support by going to his tourney and to give him some moral support. I have asked Patrick Brah to allow people to start early if they would like to and he will be there by 8:15 so if you want to play in both you still can. As long as you have 2 people in your group at VV you can go out early. Just leave your scorecard on Patrick car.

I couldn't move the league to Estabrook when a couple people asked me yesterday because it was only 48 hours before league and I know not everyone is on facebook. There would have likely been more than one person show up at VV not knowing the league had been shifted. Had I thought of this idea of shifting the venue to Estabrook originally that would have been better but I didn't so I kept the schedule the same. VALLEY VIEW it is still tomorrow but if you want to play early so you have time to do both, feel free to show up early and get in a group and go out!

Sorry for the confusion, the inability to shift the schedule (complicated by me still being out of town), and I am sorry I cannot be at Thom's tourney to help show him some support, but I would appreciate it if any of you were able to help show that support for me.

Well, we head back to Valley View with another decent ace pool. Will someone be walking away with $100 or more, splitting it with the three others aces on the day, or will it carry over to Estabrook the following week?

You just never know at Valley View, so this week you need to decide are the divisional points more important and will you try to park every hole for the elusive (-18) or will you be running for aces and the cold hard cash. For me, I enjoy running for aces and I can find a way to enjoy $100, so I am going to be going with my modified technique of the controlled ace run, where I give it a chance, but I don't risk putting it too far past.

Well, Week 8 is in the books. I wish I could have played but I think someone would have had to pull me off the course in a sled because I don't think I had enough lung capacity to make the entire round. I look forward to returning next week at Valley View and the following week at Estabrook before i go on my road-trip.

I know the Amateur field was limited today because a bunch of regulars were are the Frozen River Doubles Event in West Bend. I understand we always have decisions to make in what events to attend, now more than ever as there seems to be something going on all the time. That is good for the local area and the disc golf community as a whole, so don't ever feel bad about missing an event for another event, as long as you are playing!!!!

In Open we had 11 people with most of the usuals today. Mike Janowski has a strangle-hold on the division with a 17 point lead coming into today in total points. Mike extended the lead by shooting a (-7) which was 1 throw better than his friend and newcomer Noah Klingensmith (-6) and 3 throws better than Bob Bawden (-4). Scott Mushall (Pooty) was able to take the last cash with his (-3) and with Paul Johnson missing this week Brad Rathkamp has slid into 3rd place in total points.

In Intermediate, Greg Klein takes advantage of me missing this week to move up in the standings by shooting a (-1) . . . a score I definitely would not have been able to post today. The total points leader Mike Wright took second with a (+3) and Jesse Papermaster takes the last of the funny money with his (+5). It looks like I am going to have my work cut out for me when I return if I have any chance of making it to the trophy positions, especially because the person only 1 point behind me (Pat Brah) will be running the league those 2 weeks which means I know I will be losing further ground.

In Recreational Shawn Nyquist showed up today and shot a (+15) and he said on facebook later in the day that he respects us diehards for playing through that weather. Sunday Snow Throwers has always been those who just cannot stop playing in winter, and some of the conditions we have played through in the past might shock you Shawn, but I think you will get accustomed to it and want to be out there just like us, but I know you will be out there when spring rolls around, because you have shown the passion you have for the game.

In Women we had Jennifer San Filippo play for a different kind of score today . . . she gets and (A+) for shooting a perfect score round of 100. Thanks for coming out Jenny, and thanks for stopping by The Disc Barn afterwards.

Thank you to Patrick Brah for running league in my absence this week (We call it Siblings Weekend where we rent a cabin with my brother, his wife and their two children, and my wifes sister and husband). It is nice to know I can leave the league in good hands to spend quality time with family. Thank you also to Robert S. Bawden for always taking such good care of Estabrook Park. He volunteers his time to make that course better which in turn makes running leagues better too!

29 people showed up despite the icy conditions, the second highest attendance to only Week #2 at Dretzka. I look forward to good conditions next week hopefully.

In Open: We had an excellent round of (-9) by Paul Johnson followed by another great round of (-7) by Kevin Rynders. There was a three way tie between Bob Bawden, Brad Rathkamp, and Mike Janowski to split the last cash spots.

In Intermediate: We saw Chris Dickerson put up a pro level score of (-5) followed by a (-2) by Jesse Papermaster and a tie between Mike Wright and Jeff Doebert at (-1). Christopher Jante ended up with a (+2) while todays League Director shot a (+3) and managed the last of the funny money spots.

In Recreational: Nick Williams played well and competed with most of the Intermediate field while shooting a (+1). Disc Dog turned in a nicely played (+4) to take the last of the funny money this week.

In Juniors, Sam Doebert was playing against himself but still put up a solid score of (+2), showing how he may very well be the next up and comer in WI as he gets older and goes through some growth spurts. I do not know exactly how old Sam is, but man has he picked up some serious disc golf skills the last couple years!!!! Nice shooting Sam, and thanks for coming out!

I will be here for the next few weeks so I look forward to seeing you all again. I know some of you have built up some funny money so far, but remember that I now have all of my inventory (over 1000 discs, bags, accessories, etc etc etc at my new store The Disc Barn in Menomonee Falls (about 10 minutes from Dretzka) which is literally in a barn). It isn't as bad as it sounds as it is just an upgraded office where I rent for my landscape company inside an old barn. I have everything organized and have all my merchandise on display. I am not open 9-5 & 7 days a week like many retail stores, but I will make time for you to come check things out if I know in advance when you are available. I am typically in my office/shop weekdays between 8-5 (as well as after leagues on Dretzka and Estabrook weeks) . . . but I simply ask that you call me in advance (262) 894 3404 so I know when to expect you since I do not have set hours yet. We still had 13 people show today for Sunday Snow Throwers and to be honest, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be once we got down into the woods.

In Open, Mike Janowski extended his lead with another solid (-12) at Valley View. This is a long league but the next 4 people need to show up if Mike is going to have any divisional competition for the season. Taking second today was Mike Finley (-9) who recently won two Ace Races so his finesse game seems to be working well.

In Intermediate we had two new players move up from Recreational so the Intermediate division was the biggest division on the day with 7 people. Mike Wright and newcomer Grant Gall both shot (-9) which actually would have cashed in Open and they will be splitting the win and the FM for 1st and 2nd because I do not believe in playoffs in winter leagues. I had an up and down (-5) to take third and newcomer Warren Hudy got the last of the funny money with his (-4).

In Recreational, Nick Williams was left all alone today . . . which is unfortunate because he had a pretty good round (-3) that would have likely beaten more people if they showed up. Thanks for coming Nick, maybe next week will be nicer and you will have more competition.

We will be at Valley View this Sunday (January 5th) and we will play quickly on a short course so everyone can get to their chosen destination to watch the Packers Game. It is going to be cold and there is a lot of snow out there but the teepads will be in great shape for league so come on out, play a quick round, and then cheer on the Packers!

We had another outstanding attendance this week despite the freezing drizzle this morning and icy rubber tee-pads. Not only did it drop from 40 yesterday to 20 for a high today but things also went from nearly perfect to pretty rough in 24 hours. However . . . we still managed to see 25 people for league this week and right now Dretzka seems to be the course that brings in the most people.

In Open we had 9 people this week with Mike Janowski (-3) winning this week and also extending his divisional lead in the absence of Paul Johnson and Bob Bawden. Taking second this week was a visitor from Memphis, TN, Tim Hartline . . .who I had the pleasure of playing with. He played solidly but he certainly seemed to get stronger the later in the round we went. They rarely get snow/ice in Memphis so this was fairly new to him but he still managed a (-2) for second place on a course he had only played once in the past in tough conditions. Taking third this week and moving up the divisional ladder is Joel Kamoske with (E).

In Intermediate we had 12 people this week and the young man who won Chaining in the New Year the day before Sean Puffer . . . also tied for the win in league this week with his (+2). Jeff Doebert also shot a (+2) to tie Sean and moves into 3rd place overall. Mike Wright maintained his position in the league by shooting (+3) and taking third to remain in second overall. Chad Niezgoda made a move with his (+4) this week also because Pat Brah was not at league this week. I moved down slightly to 4th place overall with my tie with Greg Klein at (+5) this week but Greg remains in the overall point lead for this league. Christopher Jante was a couple throws back at (+7) but he was able to hold on to the final funny money spot for this week.

In Recreational we saw Dan Gerick have an Intermediate caliber round of (+4) and he actually declared prior to league this week that once he played Winter Dretzka once he would move up . . . and he honored that comment for future SST weeks. He will not be competing in Intermediate and it looks like he will be in the hunt every week with his abilities at Dretzka in poor conditions coupled with his familiarity with Valley View. Taking second this week is David Whiteside at (+7) which also would have gotten some FM in Intermediate.

We also saw our first woman at Sunday Snow Throwers . . . I do always wish I could say I was able to provide a league platform for women to compete with each other . . . but it has always been a struggle to get more than an average of 1-2 women per week. I know JB will play in anything if her schedule allows so come on out ladies and compete in some winter disc golf in a more casual but still competitive setting that happens at my leagues.

There were 13 lucky people that had the fortunate experience of making it to Estabrook so they could still get in their weekly league round. When i was the only one there at about 8:40 I wasn't sure anyone else was coming. I left my house at right about 7:00 to head up to my office to pick up some disc requests for people (WHO DID NOT SHOW UP!!!!!! You know who you are), but I also needed to pick up my sled and shovel.

Ace Pool:
Last week the ace pool was cleared out by Dominick Salas at Valley view for $66, and it was hit again today by Chris Onopa on #16. Chris takes home $11 for his great throw on a tough hole.

Open:
Course Pro Bob Bawden decided to sleep in a bit today and the extra sleep he got must have helped as he had the hot round on the week (-7). Mike Janowski followed a few throws behind Bob with (-4) for the last cash.

Intermediate:
Immediate Past Course Pro Greg Klein took advantage of knowing the course by shooting a solid (-3) on the day. Sean Puffer and I both shot (Even) to get a payout and Mike Wright who was only 1 throw behind us (+1) got the last of the funny money.

Recreational:
Greg Weber was the only Rec. player to show up today and fared pretty with with his (+7). He definitely enjoyed himself because he was headed home to build a snow fort for his kids (and himself).

See you next week at Dretzka . . . maybe the teepads will be clean and dry for us and it will be an enjoyable day out there. I had fun today but I did get a little bit too wet for my liking, but either way i was happy I was not the only one to show up, and then to get 13 today was awesome. It is days like this that I remember regardless of my score! Thanks for spending the morning dedicated to disc golf and let's all cheer on The Packers today. I am headed home right now!

Depending on the timing there might be a chance to shovel and salt beforehand to stay ahead of the snow but it depends on how fast it is going to come down. Just bring a shovel to make it easier for each group to have a nice tee surface. Bring it on Mother Nature. . .Sunday Snow Throwers can handle it!

Thanks go to Patrick Brah for running league in my absence again, I really appreciate how willing he is to help me out. It looks like Karma played a role (or he just played really well this week) because he took down the Intermediate Division.

Thanks also go out to the 31 total people who played. Last year the highest attendance we had at Dretzka was 21 people so having 31 this week is outstanding. Estabrook's highest attendance was 32, Valley View was 26, and Dineen was 18. I am excited to see how these divisions play out this season . . . and it is a long league season this year so get ready for the long haul and lets hope for 31 degrees and sunny every week!


OPEN:
Paul Johnson had a solid round of (-8) for the win this week. Mike Janowski (who won last week at Estabrook) ended up in 2nd with his (-6) and Brad Rathkamp and Scott Mushall were only 1 throw behind Mike at (-5) to split 3rd and 4th with Casey Connors and Bob Bawden also tying to split the last cash spot with (-3).

INTERMEDIATE:
We had 15 people in the division this week and the league director Patrick Brah took down the division with a (-1). 2 throws behind Pat was Jeff Doebert (+1), newcomer Michael Ulickey was 2 throws behind Jeff with (+3) helping him avoid a three way tie with newcomer Jon Blohm and Greg Klein at (+4). Another tie between Dustin Skorupinski and Mike Wright at (+5) and Keegan Wenzler and Mike Raatz tying for the last cash with (+6).

RECREATIONAL:
There were only two Recreational players this week and Greg Weber won with a (+13) but Mark Mittag was only 3 throws back. I hope to establish more of a Recreational division and we did have two others playing two weeks ago at Estabrook who both indicated they planned to come to Dretzka, so I hope to see everyone there all at the same time at some future weeks.

JUNIOR:
Ethan Kriederman did not finish his round and I do not blame him given the conditions. Dretzka Winter is a long course, a long walk, and the conditions made it feel much longer and more challenging. Thank you for coming Ethan, I hope to see you come to some future weeks too possibly.

This week we will be at Valley View. Don't forget this is a unique setup for winter so it isn't the same holes you might be used to. There are three additional holes I laid out this fall in the woods on the hill to the east of Hole #12 and it even revived one of the older holes on the course with a throw down the hill though a tight 15-20' wide fairway surrounded by Buckthorn and underbrush. It is a tough shot for everyone despite it being only 220', we even had a Star bogey there last Wednesday night. There is also another hole that is played differently in winter where we throw from 18 tee down to #2 basket. It makes for better flow in winter and it changes up the shot that we are accustomed to all summer. I know I will ace that hole this year . . . I almost hit it yesterday and I have hit basket at least 304 times on that hole in the past. SO I hope to see some of you who may not play much at Valley View to come out this week. Valley View is a different beast in winter and while scores can still hit double digits under par . . . this layout plays significantly harder, especially with Holes 3, 7, and 11 stretched to the long positions for the winter.

I already had a couple requests to play slightly earlier which I am fine with but all groups should be no less than 3 people . . . 4's are ok but will eventually slow up quicker 3-somes behind them. Patrick said he will try to be at the course by 8:15 or so to get people checked in and I am fine if people want to start playing as early as 8:30-8:45 if they have a 3-some. If you do start early keep in mind you need to turn your scorecard into Pat or leave it on his vehicle.

Pat does have all the cash payouts that have not been picked up so when you check in, please let him know you have money coming back. I will hand out all of the funny money next week or whenever I see people next. If you are looking to redeem some funny money you can always make an appointment to come meet me at my office sometime where I have all my stuff setup like a store . . . or you can tell me what you are looking for specifically and I iwll try to bring what I have for you the next time I will see you . . . but if you want to see all of my merchandise I highly recommend coming into my store and seeing it all first-hand as I will only be bringing the newest arrivals and special requests with me each week.

Dretzka called my name along with about 100 others yesterday so I did not get to my office to do the scores. When I did get home to do them . . . I realized I was going to "REWORK" the payout table for the Open Division. I had been using the theory of 50% of the field getting paid out so that it did not discourage people from playing if they never were able to cash, but I realized that is really only good to do with the amateur divisions. Once you get to Advanced/Open level play you want to be rewarded for your best play and not just scraping by for last cash, so I switched the payouts in Open to approximately 30-40% of the field getting paid out depending on how many people attend. All other divisions will continue to payout 50% of the division because it gives everyone a fair chance to win something when they have a good week.

I would be open to an Advanced level field with people that will shoot in the (-4 to -7) range at Estabrook, Dretzka, and Valley View if that means anything to the people who are currently in Open. We have never really had an Advanced division because those players typically just play Open so they can win cash. I understand the rationale and am totally fine with it, but do not feel like you are locked into Open if you do not think it is the right spot for you. With that said I expect many more Amateurs this coming week because many of the regulars at my leagues were playing at the Cold Turkey yesterday.

With that said, you can also expect to have some different things worked into this league. While $4 went to payout this week for all divisions I plan to do some CTP's, a skins game, a possible birdie club, or things like that from time to time. $1 from your entry fee will be taken from the $4 payout to accomodate those extra games so on weeks we do something special by division . . . only $3 will be going to payout. Since I do not think I announced how all of the funds are being used I will do that now.

$6 base entry fee is broken down into this: $1 goes directly to Valley View or the GLDGC (for Dineen, Estabrook, and Dretzka) based on how many people play those rounds at those courses. This is to ensure that we can keep running leagues and to help improve our courses and also put in new courses. $1 goes to the season ending trophies and other awards (depending on attendance). Trophies are based completely on attendance and we need 20 rounds played to have 1 trophy, 40 for 2 trophies, and 60 for 3 trophies, but in order to win a trophy you need to play in at least 50% of the weeks. $4 goes to payout . . . on weeks we have no side game (like this week) all $4 goes to the weekly payout, but on weeks we do a side game $1 will be put towards the weekly side game leaving $3 for the weekly payout.

$1 optional ace pool that carries over from week to week. If there is money left in the ace pool after the final round of the league . . . we will do a 50/50 contest for that money by division where 50% of the funds will be split up into divisional contests based on total attendance, and the other 50% will be donated to my "Disc Golf Course Development Fund" where I plan to use donate money to SE WI course development projects to help us get more courses in the area.

$1 optional Mulligan . . . I normally do not like mulligans in league play, but as many of us saw . . . winter can be tough at times and will more than likely cost usat least one bad throw per round. It might be an icy teepad, it might be a bad skip because of frozen ground . . . either way you can use the mulligan at any time and YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO THROW YOUR NEXT SHOT FROM EITHER DISC (which I forgot to say this week, hopefully that didn't cost anyone the farm) . . . in case your mulligan put you in a worse spot. 100% of the money raised from mulligans will be put into the "Disc Golf Course Development Fund" again. So while it might save you a throw or two . . . it might also lead to another course being put into the ground locally, so you are helping yourself and the disc golf community

21 people in attendance was a solid start to this league, especiually considering my loyal Amateur attendees were at the Cold Turkey yesterday. I expect there to be a good range of 5-10 people in Intermediate any given week and Recreational will likely 3-6 people every week.

Next week should be fine as planned at Dretzka. You will be playing in small groups of 3 or at the most 4 people to make sure things move along quickly. There was even a request for a couple people who need to play a little bit early because of prior obligations. I am totally fine with that, I simply ask that whoever does start early starts their round on Hole #6 or 7 and gets onto the golf course quickly (and finishes with the rest of the top 9 after wards) so that it does not slow anyone down at the normal start time, as many of those upper holes will be taken up by league players and some casuals at the 09:00 AM start time.

I will also not be at league this coming week as I will be in Minnesota, but Patrick Brah will be running the show. He will have scorecards, pencils, and the cash for change. I will also give him the cash and funny money payouts from this past week (unless I see some of you at my Wednesday Night league at Valley View). Please be sure to tell Pat your full name if you do not already know each other so he can write it down properly, or so that he will know who you are and what division you are playing.

I am excited to kick off one of my favorite leagues of the year . . . Sunday Snow Throwers . . . why because that means my landscape season is virtually over for a few months and I can focus on playing a lot of disc golf and helping to move The Disc Golf Experience forward. I hope to see a lot of you there tomorrow between 8:15-8:45 AM as I hope to kick off the round at 9:00 AM . . . please do not be late it makes it so much harder when arranging groups . . . but if you are . . . please call me at 262 894 3404 so I can plan appropriately.

Next week it looks like the plans to play Dretzka will remain as the course will only be closed for Saturday for the Cyclocross event but open back up on Sunday. I am excited to play that course too!
