The Spring Session of the experimental league format Manic Mondays has completed. Scores have been posted and the leaderboard has been decided. I handed out trophies to those who were present yesterday but I still have a trophy for Aaron Schultz, Joel Kamoske, and Greg Klein. Congratulations to all the winners and I hope to continue to see everyone at the Summer Session of Manic Mondays where we take this well received league to another level. I have added 3 formats (Ace Race, Alternate Tee Night, and a Skins Game within your group). Then at the conclusion of the 10 week season for those who qualify (Up to 8 people possible and you must play 6 or more weeks of the 10 week season and finish in the top players in your division) will go on to play additional Match Play Matches to determine where they finish in the division, so basically you will play all 10 weeks to determine your seeding in a Match Play bracket. Whoever finishes in 8th place after the first 10 weeks could end up winning the division but they will have to go through the #1 seed. I think that Match Play is the ultimate competition because anyone can win at any time. If you lose focus you might just get beaten out of the #1 seed spot.

As most of us know already we are guaranteed to be playing One Disc Night tomorrow because we had the Manic Multiplier hit and Putters Only was selected. The 10th and final week (WHICH WILL BE PLAYED on June 3rd due to the Memorial Day Holiday) will be Double Points Singles, the standard format you all have been accustomed to.

Right now the forecast for the week looks terrible including tomorrow night. I am hopeful in thinking that the weather will hold off tomorrow so we can get in our round but at the same time I am going to set my own precedent and say that I will not put you in danger just to complete a league round. I personally played through a ton of lightning this weekend because I needed to get my fix of disc golf on a family filled weekend, but I don't think it is fair or right to put anyone in danger just to complete a round of disc golf. I will say this . . . a decision for league will be made at the normal start time 6:00 PM.. I will not make a decision beforehand unless it is obvious that league will not be occurring and I will post it on facebook (if my phone and the weather also allow it) but you can always call me to see where we stand at 262 894 3404. I will think about what to do if a league round gets cancelled after I have been taking league fees. I don;t want to get into makeup dates but that is a possibility, perhaps I could offer some makeup times for a round to be played, or we could just decide the divisions on the best 7 of 9 weeks, or even still just add another week. Regardless I need to establish the normal protocol because this is bound to happen in future leagues.

It was a very anticlimactic scene tonight as Robert Bawden spun the wheel. I think it took him a minimum of 8-10 spins of the wheel to hit one of the three remaining spots . . . Double Points Manic Multiplier Dealer's Choice was where the wheel settled out however . . .and Robert had to choose between 1 disc night and Putters Only and as we all know . . . he chose Putters Only.

It was an especially difficult night for putters because of the wind . . . that is far from ideal conditions to be using a putter on every hole.

In Open we had a three way tie for the win with Brad Weber, Joel Kamoske, and Scott Slauson with (-8). If they are all at league next week they can settle the points in some sort of playoff. Taking last cash was Robert Bawden (-6).

In Advanced . . . Shaun and I battled again this week. Neither of us were thrilled with our performance so that is all I have to say about that.

In Intermediate we had the hot round of the night by Antonio Cerillio who seems to be questioning if he is in the right division . . . for everyone's knowledge his rating is in the 920's which keeps him eligible for Intermediate. He can move up if he wants but I will not require it until I have more scoring history for him. Nice shooting Antonio! Oh and nice $35 in Dirty Dollar too! Taking second was Drew Retherford with his (-7) and moving up with some double points this week. There was also a 3 way tie for 3rd between Jared Jacobson, Greg Klein, and Dustin Skorupinski with (-4).

In Recreational we saw Chris Daskam and Mark Olver with solid rounds of (-2). They can play off next week if they are both at league. Keegan Wenzler followed up with a 2 shot difference (-1) and Greg Weber will be going home with some funny money for his (+1).

Sabrina Kalies also came back for her third week of league, but was again the only person in the division. I am trying to get some more women to play Sabrina but it just isn't working. I thank you for your attendance regardless of the division basically consisting of you. We did have another woman play last week but you were gone.

Double Points has helped a couple people make some moves!

Next week is guaranteed to be 1 disc night because there are no other spots on the board. I hope to see you all there so I can see what each person intends to throw for the entire round.

Hey everyone, I just got home from spending 8 hours in the ER with my wife. We are home now and believe everything is going to be ok with her but just in case something happens tomorrow and I am not able to be to league I will have to let one of the regulars (Shaun or Pat?) know in advance. I will not cancel league but I will need someone to write down everyones name and that they intended to play in league. You can pay me at a later date I just need to know who was there for league and if the were in the ace pool. I will have to spin the wheel in my car if I am unable to make it . . . but we have 2 disc night and putters only night left so those two formats aren't very different it is just down to whether or not it ends up as double points night too.

My goal is to get to Valley View by 3, I am hopeful nothing happens during the day which would delay me past 4 PM but I just wanted to say this in advance . . . just in case.

I would like to announce my movement from Intermediate to the Advanced division effective immediately. I wanted to have 4 divisions plus women and juniors but noone seems to be playing Advanced . . . and we lost the "Unrated" division I had intended to have because everyone wanted to move up to Recreational.

I also was honestly concerned about my game when I came out to a blistering pace with a (-2) in week 1 but have returned to where I had been playing at all of last year so I figured it is the right time. I do not ever want to be called a sand-bagger so it is time to move up. While my divisions are based completely on PDGA ratings there is likely to be some variances because of this league happening only at Valley View. I am one of those exceptions that I play well on tight and technical short courses but my PDGA rating takes a hit when you have a bunch of 300' holes because I typically cannot throw that far.

I welcome anyone who shoots an average of (-6) to (-8) to join me in Advanced because it would be a truly competitive division. Some weeks double digits might win while other weeks it might only be a (-7) or so, but we will all be very comparable in skill.

We finally had our first Dealer's Choice week and Dan Bertzyk decided on CTP week. His card was an extreme example of what this format is all about. There was a 13 throw differential between two people on the card and they both ended up with 7 CTP's. That is an interesting phenomenon!

Another successful CTP week spreading some payout to everyone who played. Some might say that CTP week is slightly socialist . . well I am ok with that because it truly gives everyone a chance to get some money back even if they had a rough week. At least with this format compared to "sharing the wealth" in a socialist government you still need to earn your payout.

We also had three aces this week . . . a record for any of my leagues. Mike Finley hit #6, Jeromy Morgan hit #15 (In the same group as Mike Finley), and Greg Weber hit #16. Unfortunately the wealth was spread so thin, each of these guys only got $12 for their aces. It's better than a kick in the groin but I know they might all have been disappointed to not have won the whole ace pool on their own. Either way I know they are happy to get some cash back.

In Open we had Dave Olson with a solid (-13), Scott Slauson (-12), Joel Kamoske and Mike Finley (-11). On the payout side the top winners were Mike Finley ($9.00), Scott Slauson and Joel Kamoske ($5.50), and Dave Olson and Brad Weber at ($4.50).

In Intermediate I had a (-12), followed by Brian Ish (-10), Greg Klein (-9), Aaron Schultz had a (-8) and Antonio Cerillio and Mike Wright with (-7). In payout we had me winning ($8.50), Dan Bertzyk, Antonio Cerillio, Pat Brah and Brian Ish winning ($4.50)

In Payout we saw Keegan Wenzler win ($6.00), Chris Daskam, Shaun Kirchner, and Matt Walczak each ended up with ($5.50), and Greg Weber, Colin Huff, Zach Walczak, and Brian Williams end up with ($4.50) while Nick Williams basically got his ($4.00) back.

In other league news I have decided to drop the price for women to play in our league. I think there is momentum building in women playing the sport and tourneys and I think league should be an important way for women to learn more about the game in a structured but less formal setting than a tournament.

The standard price to get into league is $6 plus an optional $1 ace pool. For the women I am going to drop the price to $4 plus the optional $1 ace pool. $2 will go to the weekly payouts, $1 will go to the course (standard for all leagues), and $1 will go to a end of season item. . . If 20 or more women show up in a season I will provide a trophy for the winner, but if less than 20 people show up I will give back something to the woman/women who attended the most league weeks.

Don't be afraid to bring your lady friends . . and ladies please bring other friends you think might enjoy the league atmosphere. I hope I am creating an atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome!

SO . . . as you all can see . . . the weekly leaderboard looks a little strange . . . I had to enter peoples point totals for the Stableford in as a score in order for this to work for the season long points totals. I will make the points totals available and explain any of the scores if you don't understand why someone who meow have had the same or worse score than you actually ended up with meow points than you.

The important thing to remember here is that the points column is actually points earned for the league while your points earned in the Stableford is not actually published here. If you would like to see the rundown of your division I will have the scores next week at league.

We did have an ace and the ace pool was at $99 (Chris I owe you one more dollar). Chris Daskam hit his first career ace in 13 or 14 years of playing the game. He hit it with a DX Eagle that has definitely seen it's fair share of disc golf over the years . . . and the disc is going to be retired and put on the wall . . . as it should be! Congratulations Chris. Hugs were given and there was much jubilation! Chris has been playing a lot lately and has certainly picked up some tips along the way because he is improving and having a blast doing it. Perhaps his good fortune came along with his donation of some stuff to the league. We will have a CTP of some sort to give away his donation in the next couple weeks but I was waiting to have a little meow sunlight after the round to try and pull it off.

This is a format that is unique and it takes a little understanding to realize that it rewards aggressiveness. The meow birdies you can hit the better . . .and if you get an ace . . . even meow of a bonus. The easiest way I can explain this is if you consider two people that shoot a 54 (Even Par). Person A hits 18 pars . . . they essentially end up with 18 points (1 point per par). But Person B is aggressive and they go for birdies and it ends up costing them some bogies because they are too aggressive. So if they got 9 birdies and 9 bogies (also a 54 (Even Par) . . . they end up with 27 points (3 points per birdie and zero points for each bogey).

SO if you meow the ace . . . be sure to give that birdie attempt a run! If you meow the birdie putt . . . don't come up short for your par because it will cost you an additional point.

Anyways after all that explanation I will give you a rundown on the highlights.

In Open we had TJ Webber with 13 birdies and a bogey (-12) for 43 points beat out Dave Olson who also had a (-12) with 12 birdies and 42 points. Brad Weber with his (-10) ended up with 38 points. Todd Farnham ended up with (-6) and 33 points while Robert Bawden (-5) and Adam Schultz (-6) both had 31 points. That is a good example of how more important birdies are than bogies. Robert had 8 birdies, 7 pars, and 3 bogies, while Adam had 7 birdies, 10 pars, and 1 bogey. Finishing out the cash was Scott Slauson (-7) and Mike Finley (-5) both finished with 30 points.

In Intermediate we had Dustin Skorupinski lapping the field with his (-12) and 42 points. Nice shooting tonight Dustin! In second only 7 points behind was the hot shooting Pat Brah with a personal best (-8) for 35 points. . .he was the man who spun the wheel . . . so there is no comment on the pending investigation. Shane Ferguson from the Chain Chasers (who is currently doing some really cool dye work) was only 1 point behind at 34 with his (-8). I came in 1 point behind Shane at 33 points with my (-7) and Mike Wright and Greg Klein both with (-5) and 29 points rounded out the funny money.

In Recreational Mr. April Acetime himself Chris Daskam came in with a hot 32 points for his (-6) which had a 6 point hole on #14 because of his ace. Followed only a couple points behind was Shaun Kirchner (-5) at 29 points . . . who received some good fortune tonight from the fact that he also helped three people get into their vehicles after locking keys in their cars. I know who I am calling if I ever do that! Just 1 point behind him was Zach Walczak (-5) with 28 points. Matt Borneman (-2) cashes in on some funny money for his 26 points as does Brian Williams (-2) with his 24 points. Finishing out the funny money in a three way tie is Billy Barnes (Even), Ned England (-1) and Scott Parr (Even) with 22 points.

In Juniors Trevor England injured his leg but still will walk away with $2 in funny money for attending another league week.

I am excited to finally turn the corner on some nicer weather. I'll try to be there by 4:00 but will guarantee I will be there by 5:00 at the latest to have my discs available. I have sold a bunch of the brand new stuff I have already and they are going bfast. I can place another order in a couple weeks to replnish what I sold but it might be up to 3 weeks from now before I have the discs in hand. Please keep in mind . . . I am always willing to add your desired discs to an order but I ask that you only request specific things if you intend to purchase the disc when it arrives.

34 people showed up to play tonight despite the overcast skies. We started our round and then it decided to start raining . . .oh well we were all in it at the same time!

The weather was much nicer earlier in the day and one of these Monday Evenings is going to be just beautiful. I promise if you keep coming to league it will happen eventually.

No ace was hit tonight so we will sit at $61 plus whoever enters next week. Maybe that will be the push needed to bring in 40+ people.

Tonight I let Brad Weber pick a number and he settled on #13 which was randomly attached to Shaun Kirchner. Shaun got the honor of spinning the wheel and it settled out on #2 1 Disc Night . . . so from Putters Only to 1 Disc Night . . . thats a tough two week stretch!

In Open, despite the rough conditions and only 1 disc Scott Slauson managed to shoot (-11). Following behind Scott were Paul Johnson and Joel Kamoske (-7), and Marshall Black and newcomer Matt Simmons had (-5) to take the last of the cash.

In Intermediate Aaron Schultz had his best round in this league (-8) to take the win. I was 2 shots behind at (-6) and there was a three way tie between Mike Wright, Chad Niezgoda, and Cody Naas at (-5) for the last of the funny money.

In Recreational the hot hand on the night was Mark Olver with a (-3). Not only does he walk away with $14 in FM but 14 points with a tie for the largest turnout for a division yet. There was a tie for second with Chris Daskam and Matt Walczak (-2). Finally a 5 way tie between Nick Williams, Ned England, Colin Huff, Matt Borneman, and Zach Walczak for the last of the funny money with rounds of 54 (E).

In Juniors Trevor England decided that the rest of the round was not worth playing due to the miserable conditions, but he did make it 10 holes before deciding it was too miserable.

In Woman Sabrina Kalies finished (+30) in a tough format in tough conditions . . . but she did play the entire round which shows how much she enjoys the game.

Thanks to all who came . . . I am sorry the rain did not stay north like I had thought. I LITRALLY thought it was not going to be as bad as it was. Oh well live and learn . .. I'll be back next week in hopes of better weather.

This was the third time I have had 32 people show up for any league I have run. I am thrilled with the turnout especially considering the weather we had earlier in the day. It actually turned out to be pleasant for about 2-3 hours today some of which were during the league round. Thank you all for coming whenever you can make it. I hope to be pushing 40-50 people when the temperatures rise slightly.

This was a first time for the Putters Only Format. It certainly affected a lot of people (some positively and some negatively). Regardless of how you shot compared to how you normally score at Valley View, there are a lot of things that can be learned from this format. What kind of putter do you like to drive with? What kind of putter do you like to putt with? Do you have an overstable putter, stable putter, and an understable putter? Have you ever tried rolling your putter (I did on #3 tonight)? Did you take advantage of some of the longer flying putters like the Discraft Zone or the Vibram Sole? They may be classified as putters by the manufacturer but they act very similarly to a mid-range. I am going to pick myself up a Sole before the next Putters Only Week!!! I hope everyone enjoyed the unique format and I am still hoping for Stableford in the coming week. I think that format will be a lot of fun!

Mike Wright (The Division Leader) maintained his lead with a (-7) although he lost a little ground. Aaron Schultz came in with a (-6) and Greg Klein had a (-2) to take the final Funny Money Spot.

In Recreational we had another strong attendance with 13 people. Scott Parr had his personal best round (-8). His next closest competitor was Chris Daskam (-4). Following Chris was Nick Williams (-2) and Shaun Kirchner at (-1). Mark Olver was only 1 throw behind at (E). The Birthday Boy Greg Weber (33 years old) has some funny money to celebrate his (+1). There was also a three way tie at (+2) to split up some payout between Abel Guitron, Ned England, and Matt Walczak. I did hear Ned proclaim . . . I should carry just putters more often!

See you next week when the wheel will again determine our fate. I am still cheering for Stableford!

My plan is to have the wheel spun by 5:30-5:45 so if you want a chance to be the person to spin the wheel be sure to come sign up early. Not only do you get an opportunity to spin the wheel if you check-in and pay early you also help speed things up so we can get out on the course promptly at a few minutes after 6:00 PM and save every bit of daylight we have. It is getting dark right around 7:45 right now so every minute helps. It also helps me to get scorecards prepared and know how we will be pairing up (since this is somewhat dependent on the format played each week).

Personally I am hoping for Stableford this week to buy some time for me to pick up a new Pro Pig for Putters Only Week.

I am hopeful that the temperatures begin to rise as I have had enough of the cold. I am also hopeful that the precipitation is limited over the next few weeks as the ground could use some drying up. ... show more ›

I am hopeful that the temperatures begin to rise as I have had enough of the cold. I am also hopeful that the precipitation is limited over the next few weeks as the ground could use some drying up.

I did move #1 and #18 back into place so there are no longer the two throw holes. We did move #11 also out of the woods because of how muddy it was getting but #12 was still frozen. I am hoping to take care of that tomorrow along with possibly also moving #8, and #9 to avoid the muddy areas as much as possible.

Don't forget all formats are in play this week so it could end up as Putters Only. Be prepared you can carry as many putters as you want but you can only carry putters from the approved list I have posted on Facebook or I will also be posting it at Valley View tomorrow.

25 people is a pretty good showing for an April evening when it is only 35 degrees outside. I am happy with the turnout especially competing with Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day. I do hope to get some first time league players in the coming weeks and those hibernating fair weather players come out and play a bit too. I sure hope we do not see any more snow until Sunday Snow Throwers kicks back in gear the first week of December in 2013. I am looking to offer 52 weeks of some sort of disc golf league if possible!!!!

Well . . . this week turned out exactly how I had hoped . . . everyone is going home with something. Even if you played poorly you still had a chance to go home with something. Even if you are struggling to hang on to the bottom of the division . . . you still have a chance to take something home. AND Even if you have the hot round of the night (BTW that was ME . . . you are not guaranteed to take home the biggest paycheck . . . Might I add . . .not even in your own division). I am beginning to think that this might be a regular week in all of the leagues I run . . . because it really keeps everyone in the game. While points are still determined by the score if you want something concrete (Funny Money or Cash for Open) you better park some holes! Please give me your honest feedback . . . was this a fun format? Regardless of how I shot I know I would have enjoyed the chance to take something on every single hole out there. Knowing I would basically get my money back if I just threw 3 or 4 good shots was enough to make this enjoyable for me.

In Open we saw the top round of the night by the temporarily hobbled Brad Weber (-8) take home $5.50 in CTP's. Adam Schultz who had a rough night in terms of scoring (-2) still is walking home with $5.50 in cash (Proof that this format is more about getting it close than beating the competition). TJ Webber (-7) ends up with $5. Tanner Helm (-4) ends up with $4, Peter Ralph (-7) had a tough group and ends up with only $3 but he did hit an ace for $54 so I am sure he goes away happy! Rounding out the Open Division is Scott Slauson (-5) for $1.

In Intermediate the second place scorer Mike Wright (-8) is walking home with $8 in Funny Money. I (Mike Harrington) shot (-11) and have $6 of funny money to spend on my own discs. Dustin Skorupinski who shot (-7) ended up with $5. Pat Brah ended up at (-1) but managed $4 in funny money . . . again proving score is less important here than parking some holes. JD Cottrill ended up with a (-2) and gets $3 for his efforts. Greg Klein (-4) and Aaron Schultz (-2) ended up with $1 each in Funny Money.

In Recreational we had Chris Daskam with a (-4) taking home the most Funny Money $7. Shaun Kirchner with the hot round in Recreational for the night (-7) ends up with $6. David Whiteside (+3) also ended up with $6. Scott Parr (+1) and Abel Guitron (+4) each will get $4 in Funny Money. Nick Williams (-1), Mark Olver (-1), and Billy Barnes (+6) each are getting $3 towards their next purchase. Colin Huff (+1) and Brian WIlliams (+5) also will be getting $2 for their efforts.

Obviously this format is a little different than people are used to but I think the beautiful part of it is that anyone can get something out of the deal . . . IN FACT . . . EVERYONE (YES everyone in all divisions) IS WALKING HOME WITH SOMETHING AFTER TONIGHT. In one instance the worst score in the division also is taking home the most money. In multiple instances the best score in the division does not get the most payout. The bottom line of this format is everyone can win something . . . even if you are disappointed in your round you might still get a few $ back. If you were thrilled with your round (ME) you might not even win the most in the division on the night (ALSO ME)!

I hope everyone had fun with this format . . . and I welcome your opinions. Please just don't base it on how well or poorly you played tonight because that isn't always a good indicator for the format.

Well we had more people in attendance than the air had degrees . . . 32 people showed up to play the first week of Manic Mondays and I would guess it dropped below freezing for most of the round. Thanks to everyone who came out, especially the first time league attendees. I hope you find the league atmosphere to be a lot of fun with a little competition sprinkled in each week. Scores have been posted, and congratulations to those that played well. I expect to see scores get better and better as we get better weather and after the course goes back to it's standard configuration. I will move some baskets as soon as they thaw out and the locks are workable. I am guessing sometime in Mid April.

Here is the recap on the night:
In Open we had 6 people with Robert Bawden (-7) taking first, TJ Webber (-6) was only 1 shot behind and Adam Schultz (-3) took home 3rd place. Joel Kamoske (-2) and Danny Hensiak (-2) tied for 4th and will split the last cash spot.

In Advanced we had Scott Mushall (-5) take home some of his own money as he was the only player in Advanced on the night.

In Intermediate we had 11 players with the rapidly ascending Mike Wright (-8) with the best round of the night in the whole group. Mike started in Unrated of the Sunday Snow Throwers league and I bumped him up to Recreational for a few weeks and he was still doing very well there so we bumped him up to Intermediate for this league. It looks to me like he should sign up for the PDGA and get himself a rating and start playing in some tournaments. Shooting only 1 shot below Mike was Aaron Schultz (-7). Valley View regulars Chad Niezgoda (-5) and Drew Retherford (-5) fresh off a slight concussion tied for 3rd. Greg Klein (-4), newcomer Antonio Cerillio (-4) and recent transplant from the Recreational division JD Cottrill (-4) tied for the last of the funny money.

In Recreational we had 14 players . . . I believe that is the most I have ever had in one division. We had multiple people step up from Unrated division to play here tonight. Greg Weber (-3), Shaun Kirchner (-3), and Brian Williams (-3) all tied for first. I expect them all to be back at league next week to settle the tie. You have got to want it gentlemen! Newcomer Scott Parr (-1) and Sunday Snow Thrower Chris Daskam (-1) tied for 4th. Newcomer Abel Guitron (E) was only one shot back of those two and Billy Barnes (+1) cashes in to the final funny money with his round.

There were no aces hit this week to we will come back next week and see if anyone can walk away with the $31 plus next weeks entries.

Don't forget to be prepared for whatever format we will be playing each week. I have no control over what the format is until week 10 because the "Wheel of Discfortune" will be determining the format for us.


I will also say this, I have no problem having the Unrated division so if you do feel out of place in the Recreational division please let me know and we can get you moved back to the Unrated Division. The only difference is that you will not be playing for a season long trophy, just the weekly payouts. The reason for this is anyone who shows up to league that has no scoring history with me will be playing Unrated until they show me what they would typically shoot. This will lead to a lot of volatility in this division and most people will not stay in the division for very long diminishing the "divisional win".

I would like to run a 10 week league where we use a bunch of different formats. We could use 5 formats twice or we could get 10 unique formats and see how much fun we can have in creating the formats.

We can do singles events as well as doubles events, but no matter what we decide I would like to maintain the integrity of a season long points total.
