Well I was surprised we did not see an ace hit last night, so I am really hopeful someone hits one next week . . . otherwise there will be a sizable donation to the course funds (which I guess I am just as excited about as paying someone $100).

In Open we had 3 players, Brad Weber had the hot round of the night with (-8), Kevin "Pandaman" Rynders visited the glow league for the first time and shot a (-7) to take the last of the cash. Nathan Zoch deserves a mention even though he finished in 3rd because he had not played Valley View in a few years . . . which means he had never seen 4 or 5 of the current pin positions in play and he chose to come visit it during a glow league. He was one bad throw away from tying Kevin R. also and that would have been a feat given all of those circumstances. Thanks for continuing to support this Travelling league Nathan, and I hope to see you back for the finale next week! Brad remains 7 points ahead of Scott S. and Nathan Z. There will be two trophy spots here so it is up in the air between Scott and Nathan next week.

In Intermediate we had 4 players this week with the three top players (Chad Niezgoda, Greg Klein, and myself tying for the win at (-7) . . . fortunately or unfortunately I do not settle ties during glow leagues for logistical reasons! So the points standings stay the same at the top of the division with Me in first, Greg K. in second, and Chad N. in third. I also looked at our scoring averages and Greg, Chad, and I all are within 3/10ths of a point of each other. There will be three trophy places in this division so Greg K. and Chad N.will be battling next week but Dustin Skorupinski and Keegan Wenzler could also jump into the 3rd spot with good attendance and a hot round next week!

In Recreational we had 3 players again with the newcomer Alex Hoffman (-1) winning this week. Nick Williams who seems to have taken a liking to glow disc golf this season shot (+3) to take the last of the funny money. Shaun Kirchner remains in the lead with Shawn Nyquist missing this week. There will be two trophy spots for this division so depending on attendance this division will likely come down to what I would like to declare the Shaun VS Shawn Show next week. I hear it might even end up on Pay Per View!

Another large ace pool remains to be hit during this travelling league . . . also the main reason I am finishing this league at Valley View to hopefully clear out the ace pool. If it is not cleared out in the final week, we will take approximately half of the funds out and do some sort of divisional contest for a portion of that money and the rest will be split up and put towards the course funds of the courses we played during this league.

Well . . . at about 6:00 I thought it might just be Shawn Nyquist and myself, but Chad Niezgoda, Shaun Kirchner, and Josh Davies all showed up for tonight. It wasn't raining too badly but there was a 20 minute stretch that came down pretty good on our first 9. We played the Alternate 9 first and then after that we started on Hole #15 and decided if it was bad we could always stop after Hole #5 and call it 18, but we all decided to keep on playing.

In Intermediate, It was back and forth all night with birdies and bogies an vice versa. Chad beat me on the alternate 9 with (-3) while I had a (-2). I had the better original 18 with a (+4) while he had a (+5) so we ended in a tie at 83 (+2). Nice playing tonight Chad!

In Recreational Shaun Kirchner made his return to league for the first time in a few weeks and early on it looked like he was going to beat everyone birdieing 2, 3, and 4 on the alternate 9. He bogied the next 2 holes and then played a pretty consistent round the rest of the way to shoot 89 (+8). Shawn Nyquist shot very close to what he shot last week on a much harder setup in tough conditions. Josh Davies had some bad breaks tonight to finish with 100 (+19). Thanks to Josh for coming out to the travelling league for the first time . . . I hope Chad and I weren't too hard on the guilt trip about talking you into coming tonight.

I expected a good number of people this week because of the Howler being this weekend and next, but we still only got the usual of 8 people. We had 3 Open, 3 Intermediate, and 2 Recreational so we went out in smaller groups to get done quicker and possibly play the Alternate 9 afterwards.

In Open, Scott Slauson had an excellent round (-9) on a moderately short setup. Mike Finley came in second with his (-5) to take a little cash this week.

In Intermediate, I found my putting stroke again hitting 8 birdies and 1 bogey for my (-7). Greg Klein came in with a (-3) to take second and the last of the funny money.

In Recreational, Shawn Nyquist got revenge on his friend James by winning this weeks round with his (+13). Head to head they each have won 1 week, so it will be an interesting battle to watch. Shawn also pulled into a tie for the lead with Shaun Kirchner.

Ace Pool is now at $78 with 3 more weeks to play, with the final 2 being at Valley View where I hope to see the ace pool hit!

In Open we saw some hot shooting by Course Pro Bob Bawden with a (-6). He edged out Brad Weber (-5) by only 1 throw. That point may come into play if Nathan Zoch or Scott Slauson cane make a move in upcoming weeks. With just Dretzka and Valley View left I expect points to be at a premium in the final 4 weeks as these are the courses I expected to draw the largest attendance.

In Intermediate, Keegan Wenzler had a Pro Division score of (-5) to take down the division this week. Greg Klein (+2) edged me out by one throw to take the last of the funny money this week. It will be interesting to see who shows up for Dretzka and how we all play there. Valley View is my most played course, while Estabrook is clearly Greg Klein's most played course so the division is up in the air . . . Dustin Skorupinski, Chad Niezgoda, and Keegan Wenzler are all only 1.5 points out of second.

In Recreational we saw James Kremer come to his first league ever (at the encouragement of his buddy Shawn Nyquist, whom he beat this week). James ended up with a (+3) which tied the last place Open and last place Intermediate players. I think he was surprised at that score especially since he had barely ever played Estabrook let alone in the dark. Now we head to their (Shawn and James) most played course (Dretzka) and we will see how things play out there, especially over 27 holes.

Week #7
We head to Dretzka this week and next to allow for people to come play and practice for the annual GLDGC tournament called The Howler. I plan to have everyone play the Original 18 this week and if time allows we will attempt to play all 27 holes. We will keep the start time at 7:00 PM this week but please be early or on time. If you are coming please send me a message so I know who to expect. I will keep the groups small, but it is very hard to predict who is coming if not everyone arrives 15 minutes before the start time. Please try to be there by 6:45 so we can break into groups and spread out.

12 people (a new record for this travelling league) attended this week which was in part due to the tournament that was being played this past weekend. The ace pool was not hit so it is up to $63 for next weeks round.

In Open, Scott Slauson had a really good round of (-7). Nathan Zoch also had a solid (-5) to take the cash.

In Intermediate we had 5 people play and the two people who play here regularly Keegan Wenzler (-1) and Greg Klein (E) took first and second, followed by another tie for the last of the funny money between Pat Brah and myself (+2). We seem to be within a throw or two every week now, no matter where we play.

In Recreational we had just one player this week and Shaun Kirchner (+4) while Shawn Nyquist was out of town. He intends to come back this week again, so hopefully there is some competition in the Recreational division this week.

In Women we saw Bridget Bee throw a (+10) to beat out Jessica Evans (+16). I hope to see both of you ladies again this coming week and maybe Loriena will feel up to it again after trying to diminish the effects of a cold.

This coming week will still be at Estabrook before we head to Dretzka for 2 weeks (so everyone can practice up for The Howler. See you Thursday.

We will take this travelling league to the east side at Estabrook for 2 weeks. They just had a workday down there this weekend and got all new tee-signs put in. Thanks go to Patrick Brah for his time in doing the cad work and the CNC engraving. Thansk to Bob Bawden for his diligence in getting this accomplished so soon after taking over the course pro duties from Greg Klein (who we also must thank for his years of service to that course). Thank you to all those who attended the work day or had any role in accomplishing that great work in beautifying one of our courses.

If you are playing in the Glow Throw this coming weekend, coming out to visit the Thursday Travelling Glow Throwers would be a great way to practice up for that tournament. There is also an Ace Race being run during the day by the local DOLLS (Disc On Ladies League) chapter. Any questions . . . ask away I can direct you to the appropriate people.

I used this phrase in one of my facebook posts and it seemed to fit some good scoring by a few people out there tonight. Not only were there some personal bests . . . but the lightning way up in the sky was pretty cool too. It was not threatening us at all and there was not even a drop of rain, but it made for a cool setting for glow disc golf on the night.

This week, there seemed to be less cars distracting us from our round. I also did not see a deer the entire time at the course which is not normal. Perhaps the threat of storms kept people and deer away from Root River tonight.

Regardless we ended up with a record attendance for the travelling league with 10 people. Thank you to everyone who continues to attend any of my leagues, I appreciate it and will keep running leagues as long as I can get close to 10 people per week at a minimum.

In Open we had Brad Weber shoot a (-4). He said he was not real happy with his score but the conditions were tough with the recent rains, some slippery rubber mats, and it was also so dark it was hard to see your footing for any tee shot in the grass/mud. Coming in second was Brent Krueger who had a pretty consistent (-2). He struggled early with the footing which caused him to turnover a handful of drives but he sorted it out and came on strong in the middle of the round.

In Intermediate we had the highest attendance we have had with 5 people. Chad Niezgoda came back after the round excited because he had just shot his best round ever at Root River. I would saying tying Brad Weber who won Open is a pretty good round! Congratulations Chad. Coming in second was Dustin Skorupinski with a (-3). I ended up in 3rd place to take the last of the FM with my (-1) and had my hottest birdie round ever with 7. I find it interesting that Chad, Dustin, and I all had an OB penalty throw on #6 for throwing in the road. We also all had 7 birdies on the night. I do not know what seperated Chad's score from Dustin's . .. but I had thrown my upshot on #12 to 15' . . . which I figured was a tap in par but I hit the basket and it rolled about 40' down the hill . . . then I landed that putt at the base of the pole but it turned on edge and rolled another 30' down the hill again. I guess I am thankful I hit the 30' uphill putt for my 5. I am sure everyone had one of these breaks on the night, but it was interesting what can decide a round. Nice shooting Chad and Dustin . . . I look forward to seeing you (hopefully) and Greg K at Estabrook the next two weeks!

In Recreational we had the two Sean's (Shaun and Shawn) battling it out again this week. Shaun came back from his round disappointed in his play. He ended with a (+7), beating first year league player Shawn Nyquist by only two throws tonight. Shawn had improved from his week 1 score of (+17) by 8 throws so he was pumped when he heard how he had scored. I like to see that fire and self competition amongst people who are attending their first leagues. Keep bringing that competitive fire Shawn!!!!

Thanks to all who attended . . . I am happy we got to play tonight because earlier in the day I thought we were out of luck. The next two weeks will be at Estabrook so come on down and check out some course improvements that will be taking place this weekend. Better yet get down there on Saturday to help out with the workday. I would but I have plans to be out of town playing some more WI courses I have not played. They are hopeful to have all new permanent tee signs in the ground this weekend and there was already a slight modification to Hole #4 where the basket is down in the hole. I had the idea when I saw they had some posts left behind . . . to plant those posts in the ground in front of the basket to act as a sort of barrier. It might be a little gimmicky . .. but I think Estabrook can handle something like that, as could Valley View. I would not do that on a championship level course like Dretzka or Brown Deer, but I think it is ok to let some courses take on a characteristic that suits those who play the course. After next week . . . I expect you to tell me what you think!

Come on out again this week, we will be using the tap lights again to help with visibility of the baskets. I will be lighting holes 1-5 with glow sticks. Each group will again be given a tap light which can be run up to the basket as the group approaches it. Please understand I cannot leave these lights out on the baskets if there are any casual groups around because they will be stolen. We encountered one basket with no glow sticks (yet they were in the garbage on the next hole or on the ground) and another one that had been tampered with. Surely those lights will be walked off with if someone is given the opportunity.

Either way I hope to see all of you who have attended this coming week . . . and lets try to break the double digit mark!

Root River seems to be a poor choice of a course for glow disc golf in the end, but I will not change the plans to play one more night here just because of the high level of traffic through the parkway. I will however have to honestly consider this next year as a course to skip in the travelling glow league because I heard from all groups that it was a real pain to avoid the lights from the vehicles. It was made even worse by the fact that they would switch from low beams to high beams the minute they saw anything in their path . . .they sure must have thought we were some advanced deer throwing round bevelled edge discs with little lights on them . . . and we can even stand on just 2 legs while throwing! Then the attack of the coyote's that happened at the end of the round . .. it sounded like a sasquatch ate a couple of nice small ankle biting dogs . .. and it lasted for about 1 to 2 minutes.

In Open we ended up with 4 players tonight which was to Brad Webers liking . . . not only for the competition, but also because he had the hot round of the night with (-7), which up until a couple days ago was the best singles round I had heard of. Scott Slauson capitalized with about 5 jump putts from outside the circle to shoot the next best round (-6) but he had a couple errant throws that cost him a couple throws too. Either way those are great scores considering the tough conditions of vehicle lights and it being glow disc golf versus mid day disc golf. I also believe the current setup is much harder than it has been set up in a long time.

In Intermediate I was able to shoot (-1). It was a rough putting round but fortunately my driving game was on tonight. Chad Niezgoda didn't even want to hear his score after his round but he ended up in second place with a (+4).

In Recreational we saw Shaun Kirchner with a solid round of (+2) tonight to take the win. Shawn Nyquist who attended his first league last week at Brown Deer of all courses also played tonight, and this was his first time at Root River too. Not only did he attend his first league ever at Brown Deer, but he also made his first league a glow round. Not only was it a glow round at Brown Deer but it also happened during a severe thunderstorm . . . I think Shawn is hooked if he was willing to go though all of that last week and still come back to Root River this week. I respect his desire and hope to see him come back next week to try and better his score from this week (also his first round at Root River). I am seeing someone resembling me . . . about 5 years ago! I just wanted to play disc golf . . . it didn't matter when, it didn't matter where, and it didn't matter who I was with. I just wanted to play disc golf. For Shawn, he wanted to know what he shot tonight . . . so that he could know what he needed to beat next week!!!!! HOW AWESOME! Shawn . . . it is great to see that attitude out of someone new to the league scene ad fairly new to the game. Stick with it, it is a great sport, and there are plenty of good helpful people out there to help you learn along the way! I hope to see you give all of these courses a try even if it is during a glow league. But if you ever want to meet up for a round during daylight hours I would be happy to accommodate you and give you some pointers. Just let me know.

We head to Root River for 2 weeks of TTGT and we will see how this course plays at night. It should be much easier than Brown Deer because there are not that many trees. What remains to be seen is how the our night vision will be affected by the cars that may be going through the parkway while we play. I know when we play Estabrook there are street lights and a lot of cars that affects the night vision, but there are no street lights along Root River except when we cross the street. If you see a car coming. . . I recommend turning the other way and letting it pass, it is much easier for your eyes to adjust if you aren't looking into headlights every few minutes.

Well against my better judgement league went on as planned. The storm rolled in and we felt our first rain drops right as we were teeing off on #1. I had put the glowsticks out about 5:00 PM and it was nice out but I knew there was some potential for storms. We discussed shortening the round to 10 holes with a loop of 1-5, 14-18 so that we could at least get those holes in and decide if we wanted to drive our vehicles over and play the rest of the holes. By the time we finished 14-18 the rain had all but stopped. We were all soaking wet but I put it to a vote . . . most people were indifferent but a few said I would keep playing. I honestly would have been happy to just go home but I was actually (-1) on those first 10 holes so I was curious how well I could shoot on the other holes . . . so I got talked into playing more. Normally it is the other way around . . I am the one who has to convince people to keep playing.

In Open tonight we had newcomer Nathan Zoch show up at the park only to find out there was a league. He said he was game for a league round and was one of the ones who was pushing to play all 18 holes. He did have the best round of the night (which tied Brad's score from Week 1) with a (+2). Pete Parsons was the other Open player and he improved upon his score from last week to finish with a (+6).

In Intermediate I got off to a hot start with a (-1) on the first 10 holes only to blow away a lot of the good shots with bad shots on 7 and 9 by carding a 5 and a 6 on those holes. I ended up (+7) on the last 8 holes we played (6-13) to shoot a combined (+6) the same score I had shot the week before.

In Recreational we had another newcomer Shawn Nyquist. Not only had Shawn never played in a glow league before . . . he had never played in a league period. He decided that playing the his first league round should happen at Brown Deer . . . at night . . . and in a thunderstorm. I give him credit because he plays half of the holes with just a Valkyrie, Buzzz, and a putter and he played pretty well with all things considered. His (+16) was not his best round ever but it wasn't far off and he did it in very difficult conditions.

I was happy to see two new people there this week . . . and I hope that a change of venue will see a dramatic increase in attendance . . . Brown Deer intimidates some people at night . . .and Root River should be a much more tame course for Glow Disc Golf.

Tonight we will all get a second chance to Beat Brown Deer . . . or at least last weeks score because I am not sure anyone can actually beat Brown Deer. I will have a new light option and I would ... show more ›

Tonight we will all get a second chance to Beat Brown Deer . . . or at least last weeks score because I am not sure anyone can actually beat Brown Deer.

I will have a new light option and I would like your feedback on it . . . is there enough light, does it light up the right part of the basket, does it shine in your eyes at all . . . etc. It is a fairly inexpensive item . . . while more expensive than glow sticks . . . they should last more than just a single use so I am hoping in the long run it pays off. Either way it sure would be nice to be able to see the baskets from the tee better.

I should be to Brown Deer by about 5:00 to put out the glowsticks on most of the holes but we will be trying these lights out on just a couple holes before I risk putting them out and and having them stolen by other people playing the course.

We are kicking off this league this Thursday and next at the hardest course in Milwaukee . . . Brown Deer. We will also be beginning with $21 in the ace pool which is being carried over from last year ... show more ›

We are kicking off this league this Thursday and next at the hardest course in Milwaukee . . . Brown Deer. We will also be beginning with $21 in the ace pool which is being carried over from last years Discin In The Dark! I could have given that money to the Discin In The Dark league I am now running at Valley View on Mondays but felt like since that money was leftover from the travelling league (Discin In The Dark) that it should be returned to the Travelling League despite the change in the name of the league.

Either way . . . I hope to see a bunch of you out for the Travelling Glow Throwers . . . I love glow disc golf almost as much as I love playing different disc golf courses.

DO NOT BE LATE . . . this will be a long round so starting at 7 PM will be essential to finishing before curphew in the park!

If this happens early we will simply shift the cancelled week to the next week and all future weeks will also be shifted forwards because some course may be pulled earlier than others and we need to reserve Estabrook and VV for the end since those two courses stay in all winter.
