Tonight is the final night of the SUMMER SESSION of Valley View Leagues.

There will be closest to the pin contests, the ace pool is growing, and we'll be giving away a FREE Innova Portable basket and a FREE entry into the Valley View Open.

We will head to BW3s shortly after the action takes place at the park. We'll tally scores and points and mulligans and get on with our mini party! I still am holding onto a handful of trophies people didn't collect from spring and our summer trophies can be handed out next week.

Next week I say? Yeah, next week we will start back up for the FALL SESSION!

In Open Terry shot a better than average round (-15) to win by two over (Brad W., Dustin S., and 3 disc wonder Nate Claasen).

In Semi-pro we had the current leader Lee Ireland losing ground to Kyle Sparrow (-14), Jason Froemming (-8), an Mike Ellery (-9) his closest competitors, and infrequent visitor Cody Naas (-12).

In Advanced we had JD shooting another great (-6) score which easily puts him into Semi-Pro for next season, no matter what he shoots this upcoming week. Anthony Perez showed up again for second place shooting (-4), and newcomer Chad Nizgoda shot (-4) also. He doesn't want to but is being moved up to Semi Pro for next week.

In Amatuer we had Al GIlgenbach fresh off his personal best (-6) (I would know I was there on Friday) shooting (-4), followed by Greg Weber (-3). My only advice . . .VV leagues are pretty relaxed . . .once you realize this the shots will just go for a ride.

In the Juniors division we saw a bunch of family competing tonight. First we had a tie for the lead, but apparently they settled it and the winner ended up being Anna Weber.

In the Womens divsion we ended up with Brianna shootin (+1) and Loretta with a bounceback week at (+5). My wife rode her bike to league (from Wauwatosa) so that is probably why she shot over her average. :)

We did a CTP but the only people I was certain about were Brianna in Women and I believe it was Scott Smogeleski. I also think Terry won the Open division CTP but that cannot be verified.

Another carry over ace pool brings us up to $60. I should set the course up in the all short baskets . . .. nah let's keep that ace pool rolling. I so desperately want another league ace to take down ... show more ›

It is getting harder to scrape for a couple of bucks in Open so I figured I'll win the acepool and bring home more money than winning 3-4 weeks of league.

Brad Weber remains in the lead by 3.5 points.

Semi-Pro
Lee Ireland remains extended his lead to 12.5 points over Kyle Sparrow. And he embraces his opportunitty move up to Open at the end of this summer season.

Advanced
Kyle and JD were tied in first for th last couple of weeks. Kyle mentioned this when I played on the same card and JD played in the group behind us so they kept bantering between each other and the pressure really on. Kyle edged out JD by 1 and JD tied another person to Kyle extends his leade to 1.5 poins.

Am
Al Gilgenbach remains in the lead by 5.5 points. It's going to be a tight race!

Women
Nkki did not come again, and Loriena played well but was edged out by a stroke by Brianna.

Despite our fearless leader Terry Miller and a few others out of town for the World Championships in Charlotte, NC, Valley View must go on. If you are in the Open division and not at the Worlds, here is your chance to possibly pick up a few points on one or more of the leaders.

We had a small showing on Wednesday on one of the largest ace pools I can remember at Valley View. Usualy an ace is hit every week or every other, but this time the ace pool had carried over from 2 previous weeks. JD Cottrill hit an ace on Hole #7 and began celebrating. Many people herad it, and when I penalized him for excessive celebration from 2 holes away, he said I'll @#^&ing take the penalty! What makes this even funnier is that earlier in the day JD had posted on Facebook that he intended to hit the ace pool. I guess he was right! $114 later and he didn't even buy a drink for us at BW3 . . . it's ok JD you can catch us next time.

As for the Divisional Play:
In the Open Division we saw Terry tieing his best round of the Summer session (-15), Todd Farnham 3 strokes back at (-12) and Eddie Whitefeather and Dustin Skorupinski tie at (-11) for the last cash. With this win Terry jumps back into the lead over Brad Weber who had an off week.

In the Semi-Pro Division we saw the rest of the group get dominated by Mr. Mike Ellery who shot his best round in a while at Valley View Leagues(-12). 4 strokes back at (-8) were Kevin Boucher and Walt Zeismer and Lee Ireland at (-7) to take the last cash spot. That good finish for Lee vaults him intot he lead in Semi-Pro with Kyle Sparrow suffering a tough round this week. I expect him to bounce back next week.

In Advanced we saw Kyle Eisner shoot his best round (-9), JD Cottrill with his ace ended up in 2nd at (-8) and Anthony Perez, Matt Walczak, and Trevin Stager all shooting (-6). Keep it up gentlemen you will be in Semi Pro soon! Maybe sooner than you wish, but it is only fair.

In the Am division we saw newcomer Jake Walczak shoot a (-5) which is technically Semi-Pro worthy score. Since he is brand new to leagues, and he says his brother and nephew act very differently in league than they do during their casual rounds, I am giving him one more week before I place him in an appropriate division. Then we had a three way tie at (-2) with Al Gilgenbach, Greg Weber, and Tom Gabert.

We only had one junior this week Ethan Weber who had his best round at Valley View (+17). That was 10 shots better than his best round at leagues.

Int he Women's division we had a small showing with only Brianna, Loriena and Loretta. Brianna and Loriena tied at (+3) and will have to play off for the extra half point, which will alter the standings possibly. Nikki apparently felt comfortable enough with her lead that she stayed up at Sandy Point a little longer. I am excited to see how the Women's Division shakes out, this is by far the best competition we have seen in that division since I have been coming to league.

I will be at Valley View running leagues next week while Terry is at the World Championships and could again use a helper to move some baskets before league. I would like to have #2 moved back to the original position, and perhaps I will be able to get the new sleeves from Matt Atherton and get them installed on #5 and #6 to really shake up the course a bit!

The action was hot tonight . . . and I do not mean because of the temperatures, not even about the disc golf, we had a heated debate about PDGA ratings at BW3. If you missed out, you really missed out.

Anyways, back to the action, it was double points night and we had our lightest turnout all season. Those people may have been at opening day of summerfest, but it appears that they "Did not want it". If you want to win, you have got to want it! Words of wisdom.

In the Open division we saw Terry take a big chunk out of the lead Brad had built this season. Jonny and Terry were in an obnoxious mood this evening and I think it rattled Brad a little bit. Kyle just went along with it, and it didn't affect me until I launched my drive on 15 about 100' to the left of the basket. I was not concentrating and laughing and just threw a poor shot. Take this as an example . . . stay focussed, if there is talking or goofing around while you are on the tee, tell the people you are trying to throw so they are quiet. It is my own fault I didn't wait until I quit laughing, and it is also their responsibility to be courteous to you too. I do not hold it against anyone because league is supposed to be fun, but I should have waited until it settled down. Anyways, Terry shot (-14) Eddie Whitefeather shot a nice (-12) to jump ahead of quite a few people in the division, and Kyle Dolezar allegedly shot (-10) I am kidding here, his score is correct, but there had been a scoring error initially. Then we had a 4 way tie for last cash so we I will be splitting $4 with Gordon Frater (his first cash in Open), Brad W., and Todd Farnham. We are all winning!

In the Semi Pro division we saw Lee Ireland take down Mike Ellery in a playoff to get the win for this week with (-8). Then we had another tie for third place between Kyle Sparrow and Brian Griebl with (-7). This has been the most competetive division all year with scores very close to each other every week.

In Advanced we saw the leader Kevin Buckley have a rough week allowing newcomer and weekly winner Anthony Perez (-5) jump right into 3rd place (that is just how important double points night can be). JD Cottrill (-3) ended up in second for the night and first overall, and Kyle Eisner and Disc Dog both shot (-1) for the final cash spot. Kyle is sitting in 2nd right now but nipping at his heals are a couple of people.

In the Am division we saw Al Gilgenbach have an excellent week (-4) to win the division and edge out Tom Gabert by 2 shots. Kory B. was in the lead but he has improved dramatically and I have moved him up to Advanced opening the door for Al G., Greg Weber, Mike Szachewicz and Joe Koch a chance to compete for the division.

In the Junior division Ethan W. shot just 1 stroke higher than last week to win the week and his cousin (I think) showed up on double points night too to give Ethan a commaning lead in the division with 6 points.

Last but not least . . . The Women.

Brianna was the leader coming into this week but she took off tonight to spend time at the fireworks with family. Little did she know the fireworks we were going to see on and off the course tonight. Nikki stepped in and won the week (-1) and Loriena (+7) took a good jump up because of double points night and her second place finish. It is going to be tight at the end of the year!

To further the ridiculousness, we had no ace again this week. I swear I remember many weeks without aces in the previous 3 years of me playing leagues at VV, but this year it has generally been at least 1 ace every week. This summer session has been different, we just missed two weeks in a row and also had one other missed week earlier in the season. We are already at $77 before we factor in next weeks fees, and I expect record turnout because it has been a long time since the VV ace pool was this high.

As you will notice we went with the majority and lowered the payouts just slightly to accomodate more entire group fun like CTP's. Since we paid out $9 to all of the divisions (except the Juniors which never really get a payout because of their low entry fees) we basically reduced the payouts accordingly. Rest assured the same amount of money is being paid out in total (give or take $1 here or there).

AN EARLY REMINDER. . . THERE WILL BE NO LEAGUE ON WEDNESDAY JULY 4TH BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAY. PLEASE RETURN ON JULY 11TH FOR THE 6TH WEEK OF THIS SESSION.

Your reward will be that you can move any baskets you want except #2, and #7. #1, #3, #8, #9, #10, are all fair game. If you want to be the one in charge of setting up the course then be at VV before 5:00 and I will get you the gear.

You won the Open division with a (-14). You were the best disc golfer at Valley View on the night of 6/16/2012. 2 strokes behind Kyle, were Jonny V and Terry, and a 3 way tie for last cash again will net Dave Olson, Mike Harrington, and Brad Weber (who lost ground to Terry overall this week) $2.33 for their efforts. Why is it that more often than not, when I cash in Open, I always end up splitting money with people. I guess I need to elevate my game!

In Semi-Pro we saw a hot shooting Jason Froemming (Keep shooting this hot and you will end up needing to move up sometime soon)(-11) win this week while there was a 4 way tie with (-7) (A more appropriate score for Semi-Pro) between Dusting Falkenberg, Scott Smogoleski, Gary Obernberger, and David Scalf. It is going to be a fun divison to see who can get hot on double points nights to make up some ground! Kyle and Jason are tied at the top right now, but anything could happen next week.

In Advanced we saw newcomer JD Cottrill show up at league for the first time and take the win, shooting (-5), but he will have to contend with Kory Banaszynski who will be moving up to Advanced because his first week of league obviously was not indicative of his normal level of play. Kevin Buckley played a stead round (-3) to take second and last cash.

In Amateur we saw Kory B. dominate with a (-7) forcing my hand to move him up to Advanced. He even indicated he didn't want to be moved down into Amateur but his first week score was what placed him there. Al Gilgenbach and Joe Koch both had good rounds this week also of (-3) and (-2) to take 2nd and 3rd place and some funny money.

In the Junior division we saw Ethan Weber better his previous round by 5, hopefully we can find some competition for him out there somewhere.

In the Women's division, our leader (Nikki Feilen) didn't cme to league (allowing Brianna to pass her overall and allow Loriena to be only 2 points behind) but she did make it to BW3 afterwards. She plans to be here on double points night so look out ladies, she claims that she will be shooting (-8). I think that she laid down the smack there! Try and take her down this week. Brianna and Loriena will each be taking $8 home with them with rounds of (+4) and (+5).

Here we are folks . . .a crossroads. I established the statistics all on my own 2+ years ago. I did this to prevent people from showing up and just playing in whatever division they wanted to. We used the statistics to place people in appropriate divisions based on their scores. This will never please everyone because there will always be people at the bottom of each division no matter what. In my opinion it is your responsibility and goal to improve to where you are no longer on the bottom of whatever division you fall in.

I have heard from numerous people this entire year (last year seemed to be better perhaps because it was all people who understood the concept because the stats were a new thing), how they want to be and feel entitled to be in a different division than they are playing. I will allow people whose statisitcal history show that they are in the wrong division to move down, but if your scores are placing you in a division and they are appropriate, I will not allow you to move down. This was all put in place to protect people from playing in a division and constantly winning money each week which does not allow people who are shooting scores appropriate with that division to get in on the fun and prizes.

The statistics do not lie, they tell me what you shoot, and I have always been fair (in a socialistic way, protecting everyone by use of the statistics). I hope this doesn't scare people away, but it will remain this way, unless we come up with a better plan.

Terry and I talked and perhaps the best way to do payouts would be to pay out less to the winners each week, either by paying out deeper in each division to spread the wealth, or by just removing some of the funny money payout from the weekly shooting and doing more CTP's and other fun games which allow everyone in each division to have a chance (even if they may be at the bottom of that division in terms of their average scores). We will take a vote next week, so if you want in on the dicussion and are unhappy in the division you are in then you better show up and help make the changes necessary. Otherwise I do not want to hear any more complaining about where you are placed, because your scores put you there. I move people up when I need to, and only when their history is large enough to show they are in the wrong division. Outside of that, I let the statistics make all the decisions for me, which is the fairest way to handle it.

Congratulations to Gordon Frater for hitting an ace tonight (Hole #8) which was a big pot because noone hit one last week. I tried hard to split it with him, but unfortunately my rhyno came up an inch or two short on #9 when I ran for the ace there. He is going home with $85 in cash or $127 in funny money.

We saw Brad Weber take down the win in overtime again this week, last week he edged Terry out in a playoff but this week he beat Jonny V with a solid score of (-14). Terry shot (-13), I shot (-12), and Dustin S. shot (-11) for last cash, while Drew Griswold stayed home.

In The Semi-Pro Division
We saw some more open caliber scores from Kyle Sparrow (-12), and recent transplant to the division Jim Marek (-12), who will need to playoff their first place finish next week for the extra 1/2 point. Lee Ireland and Scott Smogoleski both shot (-11) and I know this is a personal best for Scott S. beating his previous best by 2 strokes. I would like to think I inspired him to be a better player since I got to witness his nice round. Zach Walczak also rebounded from some really up and down shooting last season to shoot (-10) and take last cash.

In the Advanced Division
We saw Jim Marek move up after he shot (-10) last week and (-12) this week. The door was left open and Kevin Buckley knocked it down with a open level score (-10). Disc Dog struggled a bit this week and ended at (-1), while Matt Walczak ended up shooting (-3) for the second cash spot.

In the Amateur (Sorry I spelled it wrong on the league setup, and I cannot change it otherwise I will lose all the standings) Division we saw 2 newcomers, lets welcome William Hosking, and Tony Sucharski to our little Valley View Family! Hot shooting by two guys who shot over par last week, Ryan Hakala and Kory Banaszynski both shot (-6). I would alos like tot hink I had a role in Kory's success because I was there to witness it also. You both need to show up next week to play off for this week, I recommend a playoff hole, but you could also play the entire round and low score from this week gets the win, but that is up to you.

Jacob was the only Junior, but I heard a rumor he is considering moving up to Amateur . . . We will see what he decides next week.

In the Women's Division
We saw Brianna shoot her best league round ever (-3), but she claims to have shot that in a casual round before. Either way nice shooting. Loriena Harrington (my wife) was so proud when she finished her round, because for the first time she has broken par shooting a (-1) and taking the second cash.

No aces were hit . . . WHAT . . . this is monumental, because that means the $37 rolls over and is on the line next week. We haven't had an ace pot roll over since Week 1 of leagues this spring. I know what I am going for next week! An Ace in Someone's Face!

raIn the Open division we saw Brad Weber take down Terry Miller in a playoff and apparently it came down to Terry's nemesis hole #16 for Brad to take the overall win. They both had solid rounds of -15 but Brad edged Terry in the playoff.

In the Semi-Pro division we saw recent transplant from the Advanced Divison Lee Ireland take down the win with a -9.
Lee beat out Josh Servi by 1 and a couple of league regulars (Kyle Sparrow Cody Nass, Jason Frommeing and Brian Greibl) by 2 strokes.

In Advanced we saw a big reduction in players . . . some due to moving up and some who didn't return to leagues. We ended up with Jim Marek (who was marginally ready for Semi-Pro) shoot his best round ever at VV (-10), beating out newcomer (to VV leagues not to the game) Disc Dog who shot respectably well for Advanced (-7). We also saw newcomer Kevin Buckley shoot a (-3).

I also took some liberties and if you were or had been shooting over par you were placed in the Amatuer division . . . I know Greg Weber shot his personal best (-3) but he had been averaging over par for the spring season. Mike Szachewicz also shot a solid round of (E) to take second place. Ryan Hakala who had been playing in Advanced last season(when we didn't have enough people to really create an amatuer division) took the final cash in the Amatuer division.

In the Women's divison we saw 6 ladies show up . . . something I am thilled about. I hope the Valley View Leagues become known as the place for women (and children) who play disc golf, because this is clearly the place for Women and Beginners to learn the game and the rules we must all abide by,

If anyone has a problem playing in the division I have them listed please let me know. We can move you up if you want to play in a specific higher division but I was trying to equalize the divisions in scoring to the point where AM shoots even or above par, Advanced shoots about (E) to (-4), Semi Pro shoots (-4) to (-8), and Open shoots better than (-8). If you were new to the league I placed you where you shot, if you had an established record with us, I placed you where I expected you to shoot.

We did have one ace this week and that was by Pete Schaumberg (hole #8 and apparently he didn't even it chains) who hadn't been to league since last fall . . . now you all know he has taken your money . . . let's hope he returns to give some of it back to us.
