We will be having a work day on Saturday June 28 to pour some concrete sleeves on the current back nine, and if we have enough volunteers we will work on a couple of the new nine holes as well.

Scheduled work is from 10am to 2pm with FREE PIZZA for all volunteers, followed by a round of golf.

We could use all the help we can get. All tools are need: chainsaws, pruners, shovels, axes and most of all extra hands.

With one solid work day all of the new baskets will be in for next Tuesdays scramble

Hudson Parks and Summit DGA will be installing 18 new Innova Discatcher baskets at Hudson Springs Park in the upcoming days.

Please stay clear of freshly dug holes, new sleeves and wet concrete.

If you haven't heard, Hudson Springs is expanding to 27 holes. Nine new championship level holes will be added to the existing back 9 (trust me they are amazing).

A large workday is scheduled for Saturday 6/28 at 10AM to work on the new holes/baskets. Lunch will be provided by the club with a round afterwards.

The park will be digging holes for the new baskets starting next week (6/15). Please stay clear of these holes and please do not remove the pin indicator flags. As a result, we need help to pour c ... show more ›

As a result, we need help to pour concrete and set the sleeves. We will continue our Thursday weekday workdays but would also like to set up a weekEND workday to complete the project. Which date works best 6/21 or 6/28 @ 10 AM? Please post which is best for you.

Big shout out and thank you to Eric, Greg, Cody, Mel, Noah, Chris W, Nick, Blake and Andrew for helping clear the new holes this week!!! Two work days and two fairways later things are on their way.

For hole's A and I to be opened this summer, we still need your help. A lot of logs are cut up on hole I. A map of the new holes is posted in my photos. If you would like to head out solo to check out the new holes please feel free to pile the already cut logs/downed trees for mulching (you can't miss the piles that are started). Weed eating, thorn bush clearing and branch removal are always helpful. Please do not cut any trees/large shrubs without consulting Eric, Greg, Cody and/or I.

Plan on Thursday weekly workdays until posted differently. Take out bug spray. Thanks again guys, have a great weekend.

Jon D. and I were out at the course today doing a walk through with a couple of the Hudson Park Board Members, one of which is the President of the board. Me, Jon D., Cody D. and Greg P. have been working our tails off to put together a phenomenal design and palatable explanation of our ideas for the Hudson Park Board.

As of now... looks like it is going to happen.

27 holes at Hudson springs park anyone???? 3 holes over 600 ft.... Anyone? Only one hole under 300ft.... Anyone? Sucker pins on natural mounds... anyone? 50 more acres of disc golf... anyone?


We may make a call on all of you to attend the next park board meeting on the third Thursday of this month to dress nice and show your pretty faces, just as a display of support to the board.

All of our current club officials will be attending the Haunt at the Hangar at Wingfoot DGC. and no one will be out to run the league.

GOOD NEWS!!!!

All of the fundraising for new baskets is finished and all of the money has been given to the park system. We will be purchasing the pins in three lots of six because of some clerical hurdles.

Once again I had the pleasure of being witness to yet another league ace as Ryan Keats put down a blind ace on the 350ft. hole 11. I was right around the corner on 12's tee when I heard the tickle tickle of chains in the back ground, and all it took was a quick glance to send my happy a$$ into an airplane to let him know he just hit it. I would like to thank everyone who came out to a nice sized scramble on our brand new pads at Hudson Springs DGC. Not only was it a special week because of the pads, it was also our 100th week of scrambles from our clubs inception. We had 33 players from almost every local course: Euclid, Canton, Portage Lakes, Punderson, Parma, Medina and of course Hudson locals were all representing and supporting our community involvement in the expansion of our beloved sport. Once again, this could club would not exist without your support. To the people behind the scenes (you know who you are) who not only donate their money, but also their time, blood, sweat and frustrations. You are the bees knees, and lets make it even better.

Starting next week we push back to 5:45pm on Tuesdays.

Hudson Springs Disc Golf Course now has 18 brand new 4’ x 12’ concrete tee pads.

Come help us celebrate this awesome accomplishment.

Next Tuesday August 28th at 6:00pm, we will have our first weekly scramble on the new pads. It would be sweet to break those puppies in with a 35+ scramble.

The format will be the same as always $5 + $1 optional ace fund.
The Ace Fund is at $300 with a back up at around $60.

Our club has been influenced and supported by players from not only the Hudson locals but also players from all of our local area clubs. We thank you all for helping us improve the Hudson Springs DGC. It would be nice to see all of your smiling, disc loving faces next Tuesday

We are supporting the PLDGA (Portage Lakes) this Tuesday, the 21st at 5:30 for a clinic that will be held by Jay and Des Reading. I think we should set up a formal letter that competitors could take to their employers and co-workers interested in sponsoring, and perhaps have a get-together to prepare mailers to send to companies throughout NE ohio to ask them for sponsorship.

I'm thinking something kinda creative, like match $x per dollar raised through entries. Say we cap 6 events at 90 golfers. That's 540 golfers. Anyone who pledges even a dime an entry knows that their donation will be capped at $54, and probably expect only half of that. So, say $25 per individual pledge. Now, multiply that by say an average of 2 sponsors per golfer (many will have none, some may have a dozen or so to offset), and you'd be looking at an additional $12,500 for the charity through individual sponsorships alone! And that's before corporate sponsors even enter the equation.

Corporate sponsors we could offer similar pledges, or perhaps 1 to 1 matching, offer them a cap on donation, and offer them a fixed donation. We could also hit them up for food, drinks, prizes, and added cash offerings to allow us to turn these events into full-field events after all. The thing is, we need at least a few of us making even a small effort, and if many jump on board, we could really turn this into front-page Plain Dealer (OK, Cleveland.com) stuff.

Please offer your thoughts here, and for those who can, I'd like to try to give these ideas a little more structure, perhaps early this Sunday in Medina before the tournament, spending 20-30 minutes trying to gauge support and what ideas may/may not work. If the organizers of the 2013 event give their blessing, I'm going to seek sponsors regardless, but I'd like to make this as fulfilling as possible, so please consider your input and participation.

Summit DGA will be hosting its first PDGA sanctioned pro/am event at the Hudson Springs Disc Golf course. We will be using any proceeds from the event to pour tee pads in late july early august.

Come on out and have some good fun and competition.

Please pre-register with us on this site, all entry fees will be collected on the day of the event.

Also, over the next few weeks leading up to the tournament we will be sprucing up the course with some much needed improvements. Jon Decapua is working on new tee signs, and i am working with the park to fill in and level out all of the tee areas, walking paths and low spots with fill dirt and gravel. The course should be looking great for the event.

Also, on sunday we will be making a trip to moraine and deer lakes disc golf courses in PA. the courses are about and hour and fourty five min. away. we plan on car pooling... post on the talk section if you want to get in on the trip. we will be meeting at moraine at 10am. bringing lunch and playing alot of great golf at ttwo of the best courses in the country.

We had another fine showing for the Frozen Finger Fairway Tour with 35 players showing up to the blustery fairways of Hudson Springs Park.

I would like to thank Mitch Renwick, Greg Platt, Eric Wernet, Frank Lyons, Chris and Kate Carver, Mel Martin, Jon DeCapua, and Bob Becker for the contributions to the wicked spread of soups,chili, and fixins.

With this great showing we are ahead on attendance from last season and heading strong toward our goal of $2,000.00 plus being donated the the Cleveland Food Bank.
We raised $315.00 for the Hudson event

We as a group have kicked off another wonderful winter point series with a 40 degrees and sunny day of golf. We had a fantastic showing of 46 players that came out to support this 6 stop charity drive for the cleveland food bank. Thank you all for the support of the cause, and i hope to see you at the remainder of the events.

Thank you to Brian and Jason Parsons, Kevin Hitch, Mitch Renwick, Frank Lyons and Matt Stifler for helping with the nice spread. I am pleased to hear all of the great feedback.

The $20 entry fee is split as follows per participant

$9 goes to Charity
$9 goes to Event Payout

Lunch will be provided at each event by the locals... last year we had some pretty awsome spreads. All included in the entry.

The point series is simple. Every time a player participates in an event they should enter the same division. In doing so, they will get a point for themself and a point for every player in their division that they beat. At the end of the series, the top 30% of the point earners for each division will be payed out the money collected.

The final event will be at Sims Park in Euclid. It will be a PDGA Sanctioned Ice Bowl, worth double points for all participants.

Each event will payout to those who participate as well (see above).

The charity will rotate annually in the counties involved. Last year it was the Akron/Canton Regional Food Bank.($2020.75 raised)

This year the Charity will be The Cleveland Food Bank. It is a Four Star Charity with a Rating of 62.61 out of 70. 94.9% of all donations go to assisting the less fortunate with a wide array of services that go way beyond just handing out food. Open your heart and huck plastic for a good cause.

Each event's proceeds will be set aside to be added together with the next... All money raised will be donated at one time at the end of the series.

We had 23 players going crazy in the rain, but they all got through it, had some chow and had a good time. We had a few donations from people who couldn't make it which was really nice. Jeremy Kursik donated $40 and Greg Guttinger all the way from Florida donated $20. Which took us to a total of $487 raised to put in some new tee pads at the course.

This is a Fundraiser event to raise money for new tee pads at Hudson Springs park.

CASH PAYOUT / SIDE GAMES / RAFFLE (innova basket) / B-B-Q / CLINICS all day upon request

50/50 (Cash payout/ Fundraising)cash for all divisions
$20 per player

all divisions will be available, must have four to make a division
open,advanced,intermediate,recreational,novice. any division can have a subsection for women and masters as well.

THE FORMAT GOES AS FOLLOWS:

We will have a super relaxed atmosphere, each player will be assigned a group of four and remain in that group for the day. Your group will have between 11am and 5pm to complete the four rounds of nine holes at your liesure. We will start up the grill around noon and keep it going throughout the day. We will also be running the side games all day.

each round your TEE SHOT ONLY is designated for you

Rnd 1: Backhand
Rnd 2: Forehand

all divisions will be available, must have four to make a division
open,advanced,intermediate,recreational,novice. any division can have a subsection for women and masters as well.

The format goes as follows:

We will have a super relaxed atmosphere, each player will be assigned a group of four and remain in that group for the day. your group will have between 11am and 5pm to complete the four rounds of nine holes at your leisure. We will start up the grill around noon and keep it going throughout the day. We will also be running the side games all day too.

Four Rounds of 9 holes: FRONT 9 ONLY
each round your TEE SHOT ONLY is designated for you

Rnd 1: Backhand
Rnd 2: Forehand
Rnd 3: Overhand (thumber/tomahawk)
Rnd 4: Roller (backhand/forehand)

i will host a FREE DISC GOLF CLINIC AT 1:00PM for any newer players who would like some help with thier game. The focus of this clinic will be based on the demand of the players involved. So it may be putting or driving... or maybe a mix of both. i will have a video camera on hand to aid you in the search for what the heck you are doing wrong.

every regular club member we can have at the course is a bonus. so come on out... shoot some golf, and be a promoter.

I had posted on the Tuesday evening scramble talk forum last week that we will be holding a club meeting Sunday Aug. 21st at Hudson Springs DGC at 2pm

Aug. 22nd is the one year anniversary of our club. In the past year we have made a world of progress at the Hudson Springs DGC and a positive influence in the community as a whole. We made some slight alterations on the front nine to increase flow and prepped the front nine tee areas for concrete. We cut five great new holes into the woods on the back nine with over 200 man hours of volunteer work, that greatly increased the variety on the course. We helped coordinate a five course winter charity point series which raised $2020.75 for the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank and developed one of the largest attended weekly scrambles in the area. Not to mention the growth of the earning capability of the club finances.
This can be the tip of the iceberg in the growth of the club.

We are looking for more people to take a leadership role in the club, there is an apparent need to diversify the decision making processes throughout the willing club membership. From now on there will be a monthly meeting in which all grievances and suggestions will be addressed and official decisions will be made. There will no longer be any official decisions made through public forums. Just as with other public service organizations, those who do not attend meetings to propose their ideas or voice their opinions and provide solutions will have the decisions made for them.

This will insure that all persons will have the opportunity to actively participate in the planning and execution of club activities and course improvement.
This will be the first meeting of a new organization, we are no longer a start up. We are moving full steam and need your help to make better things happen in shorter periods of time.

The following is a rough list of what needs to be covered in the meeting:

Establish a board of directors -- This does not mean that every weekend you will have to be doing something for the club, these are the doers." The Red’s of Shawshank."

Finalize our club charter --
Do an update on our finances -- upcoming expenses. i.e. insurance policy
Discuss fund raising opportunities -- i.e. Bag tags, 50/50 tourneys,
Discuss club membership -- perks of membership, different tiers, etc.

Discuss course improvements -- Tee pads, Baskets, -- prioritization of funds
Open platform for ideas and suggestions

If you plan on bringing up an idea or suggestion to group, please be prepared. Do your research and put it all together on paper. Bring the financial aspect of the proposal, how much will it cost? what does the club gain? the more info. the better

To begin, we will be out on the course through out the rest of this week finishing up the mulch around the new holes. If it is not raining i will be out there from 10am to 1pm each day putting some finishing touches around the fairways. If you are not familiar with the new layout, it goes into the woods behind current hole 12 and loops around. so if you just hop on the path beside hole 12's pin you should see us in the general area.

so once again tomarrow we will be doing the mulch from 10am to 1pm. !!ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!

Also, tomarrow the park service will be out there with a tractor and or front loader moving some of the larger logs we couldn't get out. then by the end of the week, they will finish mowing up the new green across the creek for hole 12, and make us some nice next tee and directional arrow signs that match the rest of the signs on the property.( brown with yellow lettering)

katie ordered the new stickers for the tee signs and will be buying the new practice basket tomarrow.(innova discatcher)

THEN: next week (weather permiting) the park service will begin the swap of the baskets and signs.
i will assume that the swap will take more than one day so IF the back nine is closed, appropriate signage will be posted at the course and i will make sure that we post it on here as well.

NEW BACK NINE LAYOUT IS AS FOLLOWS:

current holes 13,14,15,16,and 18 will be removed.

12's pin will be moved accross the creek bringing the hole to approx. 420ft.

then you walk about 80 ft. north to the tee for new 13 playing a 90 degree dogleg right up a hill approx 280ft (plays like 340)

then you walk about 80ft. east to the tee for new 14 playing a 220ft tunnel shot to a guarded green

then you walk about a 100ft northeast through a sweet walk way to the tee for new 15 playing a 380ft. hyzer through a schute that is just generous enough to reward a well thrown shot.

then you hop on the path heading south east and walk about 150ft to the tee for new 16 playing a 320ft. slight anhyzer toward the lake in a great well maintained grove of trees.

then you walk about 100ft to the tee for new 17 which is old 13 backwards. from the top of the hill in the corner and the basket will be right on top of current 13's tee. approx 450ft downhill anhyzer.

then 17 will be the new 18 with a little tweeking, pulling the pin away from the playground.

current 18's pin will be replaced with a practice basket and a putt around serving as a ghost hole or a 19th hole if you want to use it.

i just spoke to the park superintendant, he has scheduled the wood chipper to be out on the new holes next wednesday to clear up the piles of schule we have made. this sunday we would like to make a solid push to clean up the edges of the fairways and make the piles as large as possible. the chips will be placed around the fairways and greens to fill in the small low spots.

if you have the ability to come help we would all appreciate it. from my rough calculations the club members from hudson have put in about 150 man hours on these 4 holes. come help us hit 200 hrs

we are at the tail end of the club responsibility when it comes to the clearing in the woods. the park is going to help us with tractors, brush hog, wood chipper, tree cutting and moving all of the pins. the goal is too give a little and take a lot. with one or two more work days we can get it to the point that the park can go in... level it out, drill some holes and set the pins in one week.

Hudson Springs Disc Golf Course now has 18 brand new 4’ x 12’ concrete tee pads.

Come help us celebrate this awesome accomplishment.

Next Tuesday August 28th at 6:00pm, we will have our first weekly scramble on the new pads. It would be sweet to break those puppies in with a 35+ scramble.

The format will be the same as always $5 + $1 optional ace fund.
The Ace Fund is at $300 with a back up at around $60.

Our club has been influenced and supported by players from not only the Hudson locals but also players from all of our local area clubs. We thank you all for helping us improve the Hudson Springs DGC. It would be nice to see all of your smiling, disc loving faces next Tuesday

The Frozen Fingers on the Fairway Tour comes to an end this Sunday March 13th at our double point PDGA sanctioned event at Sims Park in Euclid. The events at Medina, Hudson, Warren, and Parma have all been a great success. We would like to thank everyone who has helped it get this far along.

Our total amount of money raised so far for the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank is $1478.75. If I could reach you all to pat you on the back I would, you crazy disc golfers will huck Frisbee for anything. Your generosity is not unnoticed.

Our ultimate goal for the series has been $2000.00, and by my calculations we only need 58 players to come out and participate in order to hit that mark. The weather has been wet and unforgiving but we may luck out and get a big freeze to make the conditions a little less sloppy. We hope to see everyone who has participated so far, along with as many new faces as possible. It will be good fun for a good cause.

Event #4 Parma -- Sunday Feb. 27th unsanctioned
Event #5 Euclid -- Sunday Mar. 13th SANCTIONED (double points)

$ 20 entry fee for each event. $2 from each fee is taken for the point series. The remainder is split 50/50 for the charity/payout

OPEN -- Am1 -- Am2 -- Women

All events will be on a strict time schedule to accommodate 2 full rounds, lunch, and payout in the short daylight hours.
9am to 9:40am will be registration
10am tee off
2pm second round (at latest)
Payout when finished

Each player will receive one point for themselves and one point for each person in their division that they beat. All points will be added from each event played, and top point earners for each division will receive additional payout at the final event.

We will only be collecting canned food at the final event in Euclid, to benefit the Euclid food bank.


Since the first four events are unsanctioned I don’t see a problem with anyone using ribbon assist with shot retrieval
At the final sanctioned event, ribbon will be prohibited

Pre-registration is Not required and these events are open to everyone.

But cashless pre-registration is available at www.discgolfscene.com go to the tournament section, find the event you wish to play and post your name/division in the talk forum of the event. We will manually put you in.
Doing this will make the check in/ registration move much easier in the cold.

There are only 4 divisions available because of the reduced attendance. Most players will be playing up a division. Such as Ian Kuen who will be playing open at medina, he is a top level Am and medina is his home course. This should be expected. So all of you Rec. players out there, don’t be deterred, come on out anyways. You should have all of the same guys in your division that you normally play against.

I would like to personally thank everyone who made this happen. A special thank you goes out to Eric Wernet for helping turn a localized pipe dream into a North East Ohio reality. Thank you to Leroy and Sharon Jenkins for organizing the Medina event, as well as the mothers of Ian Keuhn and Nick Schultz for helping with the spread. North East Ohio Disc Golf Alliance Presents
The Frozen Finger Fairway Charity Tour

It will be 5 charity tournaments brought to you by the North East Ohio Disc Golf Alliance for 2011

jan 16th @ medina team jenkins TD (unsanctioned)
jan 30th @ hudson eric centanni TD (unsanctioned)
feb 13th @ warren josh lamberding & eric centanni TD (unsanctioned)
feb 27th @ parma E squared -- eric wernet & eric centanni TD (unsanctioned)
mar 13th @ euclid eric wernet TD (sanctioned)


the $20 entry fee is split as follows per participant
$2 goes to the winter point series
$9 goes to akron food bank
$9 goes to event payout

the point series is simple. every time a player participates in an event he should enter the same division. doing so, he will get a point for himself and a point for every player in his division that he beats. at the end, the top %30 of the field for each division will be payed out the money collected.
the final event will be at sims park in euclid. it will be a PDGA Sanctioned Ice Bowl, worth DOUBLE POINTS for all participants.

each event will payout to those who participate. just as with the pdga...
pros = cash... ams = merchandise

the charity will rotate annually. this year it is the akron food bank.
each events proceeds will be set aside to be added together with the next... all money raised will be donated at one time at the end of the series.

all events have been posted in the tournament section of this site.
it is highly encouraged that all who can... participate. this is for a good cause.
and if you play through the winter you'll be beating all your homies in the spring.

Hello to all,

The representatives of Summit DGA would like to request volunteer help for next weekend... November the13th and 14th.
On Friday the 12th the park maintenance crew will be pulling up some of the old tee pads, how many we get pulled will be based on the amount of volunteer commitment we have. We will pull the pads and rope them off on Friday. Then the club will be responsible for finishing them off on Saturday and Sunday. We should have plenty of tools for the tee pad arrangement but extra shovels and wheelbarrows would be helpful.

The more people that commit, the more pads we will pull and fix up. We hope to get the whole front 9.
If we have 10 people and work from 9am to 1pm on Saturday. We think we can get it all done.

The club will buy lunch for all volunteers.
Then we will scramble at 2pm.

If you are able and willing please respond by Thursday the 11th.

You can contact us via e-mail, text message, phone calls, private message, post cards, telegrams, two cans and a string, smoke signals... or just send it through the grape vine... it's all good.

1:00pm to 1:40pm check in
1:40pm to 1:50pm players meeting
2:00pm tee off
2:00pm to 4:00pm whippin discs
4:00pm to 5:30pm awards and club meeting

once again. the entry fee is $10 + $1 optional ace pool. (scramble ace fund is in effect - $183)

We will be having our first club meeting after the BAG TAG CHALLENGE ON OCT. 30TH. If you need specifics for the event, they are posted on this site.

We have adopted a charter and finalized alot of paper work, now the fun starts.

We have recently obtained approval to expand the course behind the current back nine. the area of expansion is actually larger than the current back nine. So that is in process, and fair game at the meeting.

We would also like to make a few decisions, based on input, to the course as it stands now (teepads). IF YOU WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS PROCESS YOU MUST SHOW UP TO MEETINGS. Every thing in this club is open book. We will be providing a financial report, a course update, a club update, voting on new business, and a chance for ALL members to voice their ideas and opinions.

WE HAVE MADE WONDERFUL HEAD WAY WITH THE HUDSON PARKS SYSTEM AND HAVE GOTTEN APPROVAL FOR MOST OF THE IDEAS BROUGHT UP BY YOU GUYS AND GALS, AS WELL AS CONCERNS THAT SOME NON MEMBERS HAVE RAISED. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE COME US AND ASK HOW THEY CAN HELP, THIS SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL CALL. THROUGHOUT THIS WINTER WE WOULD LIKE TO HOLD THE SNOWMAN POINT SERIES. the october bag tag challenge went well. 17 players. thank you all for coming out, it looked fun. ( i wish i could play)
the next bag tag challenge will be saturday november 27th. same bat time, same bat channel.

the meeting also went well with about 13 people attending ( thank you guys for putting in the time)
a full financial report was furnished as well as our current club charter.
the financial report can be looked at upon request by any club member, but will not be sent out for everyone in the world to take advantage of.

there will be full transparency at all times. open book policy.
the club charter is available upon request in digital format. if you would like a copy just send a message .

we put up a vote on what the majority would like to do with the tee pads for the short term. just until we get the money to pour new ones.

option A --- leave them alone for now
option B --- tear them out and put down a wood chip mixture with kick boards
option C --- leave them alone and do one at a time as we get the money

the majority vote says option B

i spoke to the superintendant today, the park will pull the pads out within the next 2 to 4 weeks. our club will be responsible for preping the new tee areas. then the park will bring in a nice sand/gravel mixture and lay down and base for drainage under the pad. all that being done, we will top off each pad with a fill dirt/ wood chip mixture. then rinse and repeat for 18 holes. any tees that will not be used in the future will be filled in and grass planted.

it has also been pointed out that we can use the winter to fix up the current tee signs... that is in process, more to come later.

also. there was a meeting on saturday between hudson and portage lakes. things seemed to go well, and i believe we can achieve many great things together. as of now there has been no official action taken, but some great offers have been extended and hopefully we all decide to band together as one. it would be great to combine our resources to promote and expand the game.

just a reminder, come on out and rock some disc golf at hudson springs. registration is still available, you can register day of but it is best to at least verbally commit. that way you will have a spot. the course will be altered slightly. part of which will reflect some of the future changes we will be making to the course. there will be some o.b., a few painted lakes and lots of good times.

lunch will be available by Daves Cosmic Subs. for $5 and you will be able to make that decision at the time of registration. if you have not had their subs, they normally rock your socks off. good stuff. hopefully we will gain a sponsor for future events.

the partnership between Summit DGA and the hudson park district is paying off. the signing of a lease aggreement now gives Summit DGA full right to conduct disc golf events, fundraising, and any other disc golf related activities in the park for money. we will do our best to assist "JUST DISC GOLF" in running this event as well as we can.
there is lots of work to be done at the course in the next two months. katie and i will be looking for any volunteers to help out with adjustments, clean up, and other tournement related tasks
