OK Leaderboard has been frozen as of Saturday and I have confirm most of the player status related to berths so here we go with the official results and awards of the Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) 2013 Michigan Cooperative Point Series Summer (MiCPS-S) season:
First the results of the overall - The Free to all players throughout the state, playing in the 33 participating leagues, all 617 players. Note this is down this summer as we only had 33 leagues versus 38 last summer, that may account for the missing 123 players this summer. Hopefully we will get all the state leagues participating next year - Hey it's free and connects us all together.
OK so out of 617 players
112 players only played 1 round in the 19 week season.
429 Played more than 2 rounds
97 Played 19 rounds in 19 weeks
Max rounds was 87 by Mike Stratford, 86 by Sam Smith.
Remember this season we again only counted the best two rounds per week. Next season this rule has been changed to the best 1 round per week. Still an advantage to get in as many rounds as possible but it should level the field a bit more for those who find it hard to get out more than once.
How often did you make it out?
Average # of rounds was 10.10551948
Median 7
Top points accumulated:
Average 165.3100649
Median 97.5
Most points - 1,067 in 86 rounds by Sam Smith - Congrats to our Michigan State Disc Golf League Champion Summer 2013 - Sam Smith.
Also many great rounds and consistent play by many others.
Mike Raley with 1/2 the rounds, 48, just 87 points out of first secures 2nd place.
Mike Stratford only 167 points out of first, 80 out of second locks in 3rd.
Great season to all the players, I'd like to especially recognize the top 20 Disc Golf League players for their dedication and consistent play through the whole season. These players help grow the sport, pass on their skills and knowledge and server as great ambassadors to our sport to everyone they play with. Thanks and Congrats on a great season.

Points calculation:
The Point Series point calculation tries to encourage players to play often yet balance this against many who can not play more than once or twice a week.
During a week (Sunday to Saturday) points are calculated for each participating league round you play. The highest two point totals are added into your total and the others are "dropped". Winter Aces are worth 50 points even if that league round is dropped. League round points are basically calculated by adding 2 points for participation and one point for every player you beat and if there is no tie for first place the winner gets 2 additional points for being the "Out Right Winner". Now that basic calculation are further adjusted to encourage small leagues and balance out larger leagues using three levels; 4-19 players, 20-59, and 60+ players. The points awarded are different for each group. The smaller league rounds will get a guaranteed max point total the same as 20 players, the middle size league round are calculated as described above and the larger league rounds have a cap with max points being set to 60 players - Details can be reviewed at www.discgolfleagueassociation.org
Scores must be entered the same as leagues determine payouts; If Divisions are used for payouts than scores must be entered by division. If handicaps are used for payouts then the handicap adjusted scores must be entered.
Cali - If there is one Cali in a double league they are counted as two players but if there is more than one Cali than they are only counted as one when calculating point totals. This ensures leagues can have Cali rounds with multiple Cali teams, but the point totals are accurate based on the number of actual players that played the round.
As always leagues can use their own points system or no point when entering league rounds, as the MiCPS points are calculated independently, allowing league more flexibility to continue with their legacy systems or try new ones for their individual leagues.
MiCPS automatically keeps your best two rounds per week (Sunday - Saturday) when calculating your MiCPS total points. This is automatically recalculated whenever new scores are posted or scores are updated. Get out and play as much as you can to increase your skill and maximize your points but if you are limited to how often you can play your goal would be to try and get at least two rounds per week.
Winter Aces: Worth 50 points – League Admin – this is automatically calculated so if you want to use a different point system for your individual league Aces you can.
DGLA will also be awarding some MDGO, Mi State Championship berths for the MiCPS-Winter season. More ways to secure your berth and compete in another great Michigan statewide disc golf event.
Also New This Year
Disc Golf Scene has implemented monthly awards based on MiCPS rounds for each month. That’s more DGS Bling for your profile.
DGLA Player Member Leaderboard:
DGLA Player Members will be eligible for awards based on their achievements compared to only the other DGLA Player Members participating in the Point Series.
*****************************
There are more leagues than ever so get out to new courses or new leagues and see what is going on throughout the state. Don't over look the smaller leagues - they tend to incorporate new ideas faster, have a really strong friendly group feel and you get introduce to the new courses with the locals who know them best. I also highly recommend making it out to one of the larger leagues as well to experience the energy of all those players coming together at one time, yet in a slightly more casual environment than a tournament. Bottom line, get out and play often!!!! & Enjoy.
As a player in the MiCPS-S you represent the core Michigan Disc Golf players and you can really help make this sport better. Help pass along the Disc Golf etiquette that makes rounds fun and fair for all. Encourage new players and pass along some tips to help others improve. Bring a friend out and expose them to the sport. If you pack it in, pack it out - or at least make sure it ends up in a trash can. Keeping the courses clean is critical to keeping our courses. One of the biggest arguments to closing a course or making it pay to play is the is keeping the course clean. We have naturally beautiful courses let's help keep them that way.
Peace and enjoy the Winter League rounds

You enjoy playing, You get rewarded for your achievements while having Fun, Your courses and the sport grows and improve - Hell that's WIN+WIN+WIN+WIN = "No Brainer"

In case you have a few minutes to help improve one of our great local courses I wanted to ensure everyone knew about this opportunity. Hudson Mills Metropark, along with the Boy Scouts of American, many local players and the Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) are working together this Saturday (9/15) to help remove the invasive species Autumn Olive from the Disc Golf courses. There are 80 boy scouts and 15 parents signed up to help this Saturday. DGLA is helping by putting on a Disc Golf Clinic for the Boy Scouts before they begin to remove the Autumn Olives that were marked last weekend.
If you'd like to assist Jerry Chillson and myself with the Disc Golf clinic from 9:00 until 10:00 or help the Scouts remove the Autumn Olives from the course from 10:00 to 12:30 your efforts go to help two great causes. For the Disc Golf Clinic contact me (Foz). For both activities meet at the Hudson Mills Activity Center.
Chilly also provided this link for the Boy Scouts "Disc Golf in support of Scouting". http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/TrainingModules/DiscGolf.aspx It has some great information.
Do you have your Disc Golf Merit Badge?
If not come out and earn one along with a lot of other people and players who want to give back and ensure we continue to have some of the best Disc Golf courses in the world, right in our local parks.

The Basket Raffle was held at Ypsi Dubs last night since it seems many could not wait to hear if they had a new practice basket to prepare for the State Championship coming up soon in Ludington. Jake Schooley and Sam Smith helped cut out all the tickets and my beautiful assistant Alyse Avery pulled the winning ticket. There was lots of anticipation as many in attendance had one or more tickets in the bag but only one would walk away with a new basket.
Alyse pulled the wining ticket, read off the name kind of quietly and everyone was quiet. Who? What's the name?
The winning ticket was purchased on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the 2012 Friday Night Discin @ Stony highlighted league of the week.
Thanks to all those who participated. The basket raffle did not cover the cost of the basket but it did help DGLA generate some funds for each league that participated - splitting the ticket sales 50/50 with the league. It was also fun using it for some Pre-Round fun at some of the HLW. It shows the potential of ways the local clubs, leagues and DGLA can work together to help increase the fun, generate some working capital for the leagues. Thanks again for everyone's help.
I'm sad to give up this basket but happy to announce Ed Carpus is the winner of this slightly used Gateway Titan Pro practice basket. Ed see me to arrange delivery. Congratulations!

So besides the two June activities for berths we had a few additional to award our player members:
We had a berth for the top 5 players who did not already have berths. Given the caliber of players we have at the top of the DGLA Players member Leaderboard it is not surprising that many of these players already have won berths at other events throughout the season. Now we also had two special berths set aside to help two categories of player that we strong believe in and that will impact the future of Disc Golf leagues in big ways; Women and Youth players. We were bummed that we did not have any Youth players in the DGLA player members. This berth was then allocated based on score. After visiting Vienna Saturday dubs a few times this season I was excited that the women's berth would be awarded to the League coordinator who runs a great league and it's truly a family affair. Tara St. Aubin wins the women's berth and her husband Tim St. Aubin also takes one of the other berths - Congratulations. We just need to get Dustin in there next time so the whole family can go up and have fun competing in the state championship. Congrats to Chilly (Jerry Chilson) and Jay Adamski on winning your berths and thanks for all you guys do with your leagues. It seems that many on the players list are also the one who run leagues or who help out the leagues. It makes giving out the berth awards even more special for me to give them to such a great group of players, competitors and ambassadors to the sport. Congratulations to all. Your names were just submitted today and you should be able to register your berths shortly. Register your berth by Aug 24th. See Foz for your Berth packages and a special DGLA MDGO Michigan States Disc Golf Championship Berth certificate. Thanks and Congratulation - see you in Ludington.....

The overall winner and 2012 Michigan Disc Golf League Summer Champion is......
You think I could do it that quickly. Ok it's been posted on the overall MiCPS-S Leaderboard for over a week but we had to give all the leagues time to make sure all the rounds were posted and correct. We had the Olympic judges and ESPN analysis help out and we are ready for the virtual award ceremony.
For the DGLA Michigan Cooperative Point Series Summer 2012

It was an interesting season, hotter than normal, some new twist with DGLA membership and some new awards and soon a handicap system. I had a few people ask how they could get more involved with DGLA and some of our activities. I saw new leagues and new league admin that really brought a fun vibe to the leagues. A real friendly and cooperative spirit making many of the leagues I visited fun groups of almost family and very welcoming to new players. Thanks to all the League admin and those who help them out. Being there each week after week, or ensuring someone else is and entering all the data into DGS so we all can chat, bitch, boast and razz our friends and have these stats for years to come. You are the backbone of leagues and the growth of Disc Golf - Thanks
Gold, Silver and Bronze - Hopefully an Olympic event some day soon.....:
So there were three players who crossed over the 1000 point threshold to separate themselves from the rest. Playing at least 48 rounds during this 17 week season. The battle came down to the wire but when the dust cleared only 50 points separated third from first and Mike Raley had third with 1018 points, George Beno had secured second with 1032 points and Mark Manard in 55 league rounds amassed 1068 points to secure the top spot and the title of Michigan Disc Golf league Summer champion. Congratulation Mike, George and our new Champion Mark Manard!!!!!!
Now one of the side activities of DGLA is to create a MiCPS Perpetual Trophy to capture the top three achievers from each season for all to see for years to come. I had hoped that this would have been ready for this season but as many collaborative efforts life happens and things take a little longer than planned but we will add plates for all the previous MiCPS top three and these three players will be immortalized for their accomplishments and contributions to the Michigan Disc Golf leagues, because besides helping to set the bar high for all the other players and push the competitive envelope these three each give back to the sport and the players, weather they are their double partners or other competitors, these players are true Disc Golf Ambassadors - THANKS!

So the second June event was the most Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) played.
First we had a few special contests during June so that no matter where players were in the overall standings or how often they were able to play during the rest of the season they could focus on just the month of June play to show case their skills. We had the Most Points in June and the Most Highlighted Leagues of the Weeks (HLW) played in June.
290 players played one HLW
31 players got to two HLW
5 players got in three HLW
4 players got in four HLW
1 player got in five HLW - Sam Smith
and if you read the last post about the most Points earned in June where Jay Binienda played 17 league rounds in June with 6 of them being HLW.
Now Jay was only out done by the Odd Dog/Cali - just kidding. Way to make the rounds count Jay and Sam already have their berths then it goes to the 4 way tie at four HLW played, Matt Schooley, Foz (I was slaking this year), Wade Calvert & Jimmy Bates. Based on being DGLA Player members and other berths being awarded based based on standing of the player members the official recipient of the Most HLW berth goes to Matt Schooley.
Great showing guys - way to double your pleasure while doubling your points.
Berth winners don't forget to register by Aug 24th - just go to the tournament page on Disc Golf Scene, http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/The_Discraft_Michigan_State_Championship_2012, Check the "Berth" tab to see that your name has been submitted to MDGO and then you can click on "Register". If you don't register your berth by Aug 24th you will lose it. Hope to see everyone in Ludington, and up on Mount Discraft, it's an amazing weekend of Disc Golf and the MDGO and a host of volunteers make this an premier event to experience in our home state.

We had the Most Points in June and the Most Highlighted Leagues of the Weeks (HLW) played in June. Both had a MDGO State Championship berth as the reward for those who have not already been awarded one.
To get the most points you either need to do well in a few leagues or play a lot of leagues or both. So with 30 days of play how many participating league rounds could someone get in? Well Sam Smith got 15 rounds in, "Bobby Mac" McAleer got 16 and Jay Binienda got 17 rounds in during the month of June. Now the award is the most points racked up in June and that honor goes to Mike Raley who in 9 rounds racked up 337 points. Followed by Sam Smith with 306 points. Now Mike and Sam already won their berths so after 12 rounds and 300 points in June Mark Manard is awarded the berth for most points in June and Lots of Koodoos to Mike Raley and Sam Smith for a great June. And to all the 183 players who played rounds in June congrats and we hope you had a blast playing your leagues. Here are the top 20 places but click the link below to see the whole list of points in June.

OK here are some stats based on the currently listed rounds - reminder the leaderboard will be locked as of this Saturday so leagues have until then to ensure all rounds are posted and correct. We will announce the 2012 Michigan Disc Golf League Summer Champion and the awards for the DGLA Player members as soon as the leaderboard is final. The DGLA Player Member awards consist of MDGO Michigan Disc Golf Championship berths and Throwshop bucks to be used to purchase what ever your heart desires from the Throwshop who has partnered with DGLA to offer our players more choices and assistance - stock up for States ;-) The Titan Pro basket will be raffled off soon - more on that shortly.
Last year the MiCPS-Summer had 46 leagues, which dropped by 5 to 39 leagues this year but we hope to get them back next year, this drop in league participation is mainly due to handicapped leagues and the extra effort to enter the adjusted scores. Disc Golf Scene to the rescue.... DGS is enhancing features for handicapped leagues which will have a huge impact on leagues. Thanks Pete and Disc Golf Scene!!!!!
Now even with the lose of 5 leagues the overall number of players grew from 708 in 2011 to 732 this summer. Nice growth in participation!!!! Thanks and welcome to all the new and first time players and all the regular baggers ;-)
Now if we look at those 732 players stats over the 17 week season, 6809 rounds were played with the average player playing 9.3 rounds. So what does it take to have played the most MiCPS-S league rounds in a season, a wooping 74 league rounds in 17 weeks which was acheived by #4 overall, Samuel Smith.
Now with all those rounds and a few Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) with Double points, 116,719 total points were awarded and accumulated by all players. With the average player accumulating 159.45 points.
Now another good stat is the average points per round. For the 732 players the Average of the Average Points Per Rounds was 16.69. When we look at the highest points per round you will find that at place 375 Sean Manning with a great 92.00 average points per round. Now Sean had only one round this season - I hope to see him out at Ypsi Dubs or any league more often but Great round Sean. Sean is not a loan in having some great scores but only one or two rounds:
Place Player Points Rounds Avg / round
375 Sean Manning 92 1 92.00
440 j cowles 60 1 60.00
356 Fire Fighter Dave 102 2 51.00
488 Cale Serecky 48 1 48.00
494 Willis Wesley 46 1 46.00
299 Sugar Schack 134 3 44.67
501 Chris Reece 44 1 44.00
501 Jon Balcom 44 1 44.00
387 chad curtis 84 2 42.00
Now if we look at those who have 5 or more rounds the best average points per round look like this:
108 Michael Carlson 309 9 34.33
84 Gary "Jones" Chalice 370 11 33.64
154 Mike "The Giraffe" Rohloff 264 8 33.00
191 Josh Somerville 227 7 32.43
83 derek "after future" evans 371 12 30.92
98 Ben Calhoun 337 11 30.64
99 tim barham 336 11 30.55
144 nicholas eastman 272 9 30.22
280 Ryan Duffy 150 5 30.00
253 Travis Ulman 170 6 28.33
13 Jeremy Reisig 676 24 28.17
257 Adam Dahlgren 168 6 28.00
33 mark ellis 555 20 27.75
I always wonder how HLW and double points impact things.....
The highest point award for any single round was 112 points to Mike (Skip) Howard and Mike Raley during a HLW. Note the difference between 1st and 3rd in the final standing is only 50 points. Can one round make a difference? If it's a HLW it sure doesn't hurt....

DGLA offered free memberships to secure your life time membership number and for those who wanted to put some skin in the game and besides getting a special DGLA Members player package, eligible for awards based on their achievements during the season, their membership contributed to the Michigan Disc Golf Course Improvement fund which they get to decide which project(s) that goes to and get to vote to help steer the Disc Golf League Association inc. Yes only two days left. So if you have the time head over to one of these last two HLW. Have you played a round in the UP? Why not DISC da UP at Silver Creek Recreational Area.
The last HLW will close out the season so don't miss your last chance at Double Points and Last points. Check out how the Local 101 does league and end the 2012 MiCPS with some great fun.
Again we will give leagues a week to get the last rounds posted before determining the overall 2012 Summer Disc Golf League State Champion and for the DGLA Player members we will determine awards and make those announcements.
The Basket Raffle for the Titan Pro practice basket will be announce. I have updated the list of virtual ticket holders. We will determine a up coming disc golf event to hold the raffle at and award the basket. If you attended a HLW and were not offer the opportunity to purchase a ticket and would like one contact Foz. There are currently 59 tickets sold - those are some good odds and 1/2 the money goes directly to the league and the other half goes directly toward DGLA events like this.

A few have asked where the Raffle tickets holders names are posted. I have been including them in the HLW summary when I get the information from the league. I see that my long posts have caused some of that history to no longer be visible and in preparation for the end of the season I have compiled the current list into a file and is available as a PDF if you wish to verify your information.
http://www.discgolfleagueassociation.org/Point_Series/2012_micps_s_basket_Raffle.pdf
So far only 35 tickets have been sold - Odds are pretty good. Note only 10 tickets per HLW are available to be sold and the season is over on the 28th of July.
Got Tickets?
Also there is a new addition to the HLW schedule.

Basket Raffle:
The word about the DGLA basket raffle for the Titan Pro basket we have been taking around to local HLW, does not seem to have reached all the league admin. At each HLW there are ten virtual raffle tickets available to be sold for $5 each. Half of that stays with that league to do with as they see fit. Just one of the many ways DGLA is trying to find ways to help the leagues and clubs and make things more exciting for the players.
The league admin may be to busy to manage this if they do not have any assistance. I wish we could make it to every HLW but it's just not happening this year. So if you attend a HLW and DGLA Basket raffle tickets are not mentioned then ask the league coordinator or contact Foz after the event. There are only 10 tickets up for grabs at each HLW. Help the league, win a nice practice basket for yourself.
When I get the list of players who purchased or won raffle tickets, I post them online with the HLW summary (Hence the Virtual Raffle Ticket). We will put all the names in a hat at some Disc Golf event after the MiCPS-S wraps up.

Vienna Park
2nd Round Saturday Vienna Dubs
Doubles round Short tees, 18 holes
15 players battled the winds and heat but took home 408 points. I got to enjoy some more landjeagers and awesome jerky from the St. Aubin's Quality Deer Processing. A bonus when ever I'm in the area. It was great to meet Dustin St. Aubin out this weekend. He started a distance throwing frenzy at the end of the round as we all were hanging out before their third round of the day. Always such an enjoyable time, such a relaxed and fun group. The park is diverse and very enjoyable to play, especially after the brush on 17 has been knocked down and clean up by Tim & Tara - THANKS!
It was a real bummer to hear and see that basket #18 was stolen from Vienna park. Tim brought out a temp basket in an alternate location for the league round. Please help keep your eyes and ears open related to this and any other baskets that just show up in the area.

OK a few people have asked if the Eastside Ace pool was a 100% payout, as it climbs to $1000.00 Now would you honestly think these guys would be so crazy as to payout a thousand dollars on one well executed ( or lucky) drive - OH YEAH they are. The craziness is happening this evening:

HLW: Summary of Ypsi Dubs -={ CHURCH }=- June 10th 2012
I wanted to keep the post short because some think I can be a little long winded in my posts. "Ypsi Dub HLW was good, we had fun - see the leaderboard for details", Foz
- only 3 days until DGLA Player membership closes for the summer season. Jun 12, 2012 by Foz Miller
One more time :-)

OK - You know I could not let such an event go by without a few more words. Sorry for the multiple emails - browser or grey matter issues. Get comfy or don't let your boss see you reading this, but you really want to read it now before you go out and play a round later ;-)
Only 3 days left and the DGLA Member leaderboard will be locked until next season. Do you have your MDGO State Championship Berth yet?
Ypsi Dubs 2012 Summer League -={Church}=- Sundays
http://www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/Ypsi_Dubs_2012_Summer_League-Church-Sundays
"Wow - what a great day with some great people. Thanks for those who traveled to join in our celebration - All hail the beautiful disc golf league rounds on such a great Michigan day.
You know I seem to have a lot of chats about "What makes a disc golf league fun" or "Why do different players play Leagues" and the answer vary just like the disc golf players themselves but what I do know is that no matter the format, the course layout, or the special activities
the key component that I see in most leagues and especially the most enjoyable ones is the camaraderie of the people who play disc golf. No matter whats skill level, where they are from, new or a regular to the league, they are welcomed and a fun time ensues.
I have to thank everyone who helped Matt, Chris and I out and as normal Ypsi Dubs is really what our players make of it and it is truly a cooperative effort - Thanks to everyone, with special thanks to Jake Schooley and Ken Terrall for managing the pre-round CTP, everyone standing around the reg table helped keep the Wobbly Bucket going and teaching others how to play that game, which Danny Fifer won with 4 out of 5 - Rock Steady Danny, Nice shooting. I think I still owe you a disc.... Ron Howard and Ken Parks on the Hot Dogs, while Chris Gee who could not make it out in time for the round (Pub Crawl ;-) made it out to make sure payouts went smooth and as orderly as they can, as always - Thanks! Chris. We had a CTP on ever hole with a little help from our Friends; Josh Hertler, Ron Howard. Joe Arnet made the Innova Bag a possibility - Thanks Guys. Chris hit Brad up at Original Gravities brewery again and Brad came through again. - Enjoy that Beer & Shirt Mike.
Matt Schooley facilitated some of the most unique CTPs I have ever seen. There was a Table Top Detroit Baseball Sticker (look at the pictures) and he not only made the new Ypsi Dubs logo, so we could give away some cool dri-fit shirts as prototypes for our next order, but added in a special "illlitirit" (www.myspace.com/illlitirithiphop) combo pack, and he also designed the special Ypsi Dubs apparel set that was won by Mike "Skip" Howard. I think there are some pictures on the web that are probably banned or viral by now. Mike - I got a call from Calvin Klein something about a photo shoot.
Now with 53 players registered our optional 100% and 50/50 cash CTPs were just a little bit more special - Yes that means the 100% CTP on Hole #1 was $53 - Nice Shot Sean Manning and 50/50 CTP was $27 snatched up by Ken Parks and the other $27 help with the Hot Dogs, Icy Pops and Watermelon - Double points and it appears a double payout day as well....
Thanks to the Throw Shop for all they do and make available to us players. Helping DGLA offer more options to our members for merch payouts with no overhead on our part - Win - Win.
Also to Gateway for helping DGLA with our Membership disc, a good deal on the Titan Pro basket(s) for our Raffle and offering a great deal to our Michigan Leagues for custom disc orders as small as 50 discs.
So a total of 2702 MiCPS points were earned and awarded at this HLW, amongst the 53 players. With the Max award being 112 points going to Mike Howard and Mike Raley - Nice round guys.
I suspect that this will be beat by some other HLW. The max points caps out at 120 for first but the total points given out could be significant higher based on turnout. Reminder there is a prize for the DGLA Player member who plays the most HLW in the month of June
I would watch for announcements and plan your HLW journeys to maximize your fun. When I look at which will be the largest HLW I have a few stand outs and first in my mind is Kensington - make sure your early to register they probably will max out. That is the last Sunday of the MiCPS Summer 2012:
Sunday July 22, 2012 10:45am Club Kensington 2012 Summer Leagues
www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/Club_Kensington_2012_Summer_Leagues
Kensington Metropark * Double points!
Another one to not miss is the very last HLW of the season, on Saturday July 28 - Local 101 - That could be another perfect storm - of points and pleasure.
Saturday July 28, 2012 12:00pm 101 Summer Dubs
www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/101_Summer_Dubs_2012
Hudson Mills Metropark Double points! *
That is also the last day of the season. Giving the leagues 1 week to get all scores posted and then the winners will be announce. The DGLA Player Members will be awarded their Throw Shop credit and the 9 berths will be awarded.
The basket raffle will take place there abouts - yeah still working on the best venue to pull the luck ticket or tickets. Maybe up at the MDGO Mi State Championships.
OK there is still plenty of other HLWs between now and then and plenty of great Michigan Disc Golf league rounds to be played. So, Thank your league coordinators, Introduce a friend to leagues, and enjoy every round - Peace

Ypsi Dubs 2012 Summer League -={Church}=- Sundays

The HLW about doubled the size of the league for the

awesome beef, deer and turkey jerky from the St. Aubin's
who run this league (QualityDeerProcessing.com), well
I was introduced to their Smoked Deer Landjaegers - AWESOME!
You may have missed out on these double points but you

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MiCPS – Summer 2012 Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well get out your DG planners to ensure you get as many of these double point rounds in and have the opportunity to play some of the best courses in the country during some of the best Disc Golf league rounds run anywhere in the universe. Who knows DGLA may even have a prize for the player who plays the most MiCPS-Summer 2012 HLW rounds....
Note there are at least three leagues that don’t have all their rounds yet scheduled so I was unable to update the MiCPS schedule for them so watch for some updates.
The MiCPS Double points kick off a week from this Saturday, starting on the Michigan southern boarder at Vienna Park , Temperance, Michigan at 1:00 - Saturday Vienna Dubs. There are several HLW each week and we will again highlight these leagues before the week begins. This is a great opportunity to get out and play rounds all over the state. And in the July heat what better place to be than in the UP playing some Disc Golf. Friday, July 27, 2012 5:30pm DISC da UP Summer @ Silver Creek - Harvey, Michigan.
Besides the MDGO Sponsored: Discraft - MI State Disc Golf Championship 2012 ( http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/The_Discraft_Michigan_State_Championship_2012) berths that will be awarded by DGLA for performance during the MiCPS there are several leagues who have State Championship Berths up for grabs as well - case in point:
Now every league is special and some of you players are "extra special" and we are fortunate to have some extra special leagues that are dedicated to growing the sport by providing a league environment that fosters growth in a well defined community - Such leagues can be age protected such as Youth leagues, which we hope to see grow in the future but also by gender and thrugh the vision and dedication of a few we have a Ladies only league ( and I hear a few more next year) - so as was the statement last year - please no cross dressers to try and get double points ;-) but do help get the word out to all the ladies about this league and event to help introduce more women to the sport: Sunday, June 17, 2012 1:00pm Ladies of Climax, MI Cold Brook Park
All great things have to wrap up so we can crown a champion and get ready for the next season. So the last day of the MiCPS – Summer 2012 is Saturday July 28th. Well get out your DG planners to ensure you get as many of these double point rounds in and have the opportunity to play some of the best courses in the country during some of the best Disc Golf league rounds run anywhere in the universe. Who knows DGLA may even have a prize for the player who plays the most MiCPS-Summer 2012 HLW rounds....
Note there are at least three leagues that don’t have all their rounds yet scheduled so I was unable to update the MiCPS schedule for them so watch for some updates.
The MiCPS Double points kick off a week from this Saturday, starting on the Michigan southern boarder at Vienna Park , Temperance, Michigan at 1:00 - Saturday Vienna Dubs. There are several HLW each week and we will again highlight these leagues before the week begins. This is a great opportunity to get out and play rounds all over the state. And in the July heat what better place to be than in the UP playing some Disc Golf. Friday, July 27, 2012 5:30pm DISC da UP Summer @ Silver Creek - Harvey, Michigan.
Besides the MDGO Sponsored: Discraft - MI State Disc Golf Championship 2012 ( http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/The_Discraft_Michigan_State_Championship_2012) berths that will be awarded by DGLA for performance during the MiCPS there are several leagues who have State Championship Berths up for grabs as well - case in point:
"Tame the Jungle" league puts on a BERTH-day celebration
http://www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/Tame_The_Jungle_at_Monday_Night_Doubles_2012
Come out to Sanford Lake as the Highlighted League of the Week on Monday, June 4th and do your first or second league night to qualify for a chance at a State Berth package! On Friday, June 14, we'll have at least 4 berths for the best scores of 20 players (great odds!) who have played TWO Monday nights and pre-registered. The scores will be based on two rounds played at Sanford Lake sometime Friday, June 14. Yes, you can come out anytime that day to do your rounds, as long as we have staff or players to go around with you. $10 gets you in on it, plus a savory dinner if you're there between 4pm and 6pm. Check out the "Sanford Lake BERTH-day Celebration" tournament and the "Tame the Jungle" league linked to the Sanford Lake course under "Events" for all the details.
Or just come out Monday, June 4th to check out a great fun course and enjoy double points and a nice laid back league night. Btw, our ace pool is FREE to get in!"
Now every league is special and some of you players are "extra special" and we are fortunate to have some extra special leagues that are dedicated to growing the sport by providing a league environment that fosters growth in a well defined community - Such leagues can be age protected such as Youth leagues, which we hope to see grow in the future but also by gender and thrugh the vision and dedication of a few we have a Ladies only league ( and I hear a few more next year) - so as was the statement last year - please no cross dressers to try and get double points ;-) but do help get the word out to all the ladies about this league and event to help introduce more women to the sport: Sunday, June 17, 2012 1:00pm Ladies of Climax, MI Cold Brook Park
Ok I have had a few players and a few League admin ask when are Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) starting and how do we know who,when and where?.....
We will update the MiCPS-S 2012 Schedule www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/DGLA_Michigan_Cooperative_Point_Series-Summer_2012/schedule by this Friday (May 24th), you can tell a league is a HLW if the date is highlighted and it shows "Double Points". The HLW will be from June 1st through the end of the Point Series - July 28th.
We are trying to avoid local tournament or two leagues in the same area on the same day. The schedule will be updated by Friday - get out your Disc Golf Planner and schedule your tour of as many of these awesome Michigan Disc Golf Leagues as possible..... Double Points Baby.....
Some more updates:
DGLA has been looking at how to help leagues and clubs and make the league experience even better. We have been exploring partnering with some Disc Golf merchants to enhance the payouts and simplify the work of the League Admin by providing a wider selection of merch and resolve the logistics of getting stuff to players. The Throw Shop has stepped up to get this kicked off. We hope that we can grow and improve this idea to enable leagues and clubs to offer more without having to tie-up their cash, only to have to hold on to and transport merch that hopefully sells one day. More on this as it develops but bottom line players will have more choice to get what they need and want - well those DGLA Player members for now....
Ok so another quick reminder about limited time FREE DGLA membership - so no reason bot to show your support for Disc Golf Leagues, lock in your life time membership number we just crossed over 50 members which was my guess for this first year since we are not out promoting it other than here on the MiCPS-Summer 2012 pages - kind grass roots to give the Michigan Disc Golfers first shot. Don't you wish you had this opportunity with your PDGA# (OK a few of you have 4 digits but most of us are in the 5 digits and with DGLA we are talking 2 digits which to me means founding members who had a dream, who supported a vision and who made the difference - Oh and for free - bonus ;-).
Now if any of your league players want to help improve Mi Disc Golf course, get a membership Putter and Glow Mini and be eligible for awards based on their standing on the Members Only Leader board than for $30 you can upgrade to the Player level before June 15th. Who ever is on the Members only leaderboard at that point are the ones competing amongst themselves for all the booty. The rest will have to wait for the 2013 season for their next opportunity. To upgrade to Player member status - after you have activated your free membership you can upgrade online in your DGLA profile manager with PayPal or get with Scott or me (Foz). If anyone does not have internet access call me and I will help them secure their membership
Welcome to edition 1 of the Disc Golf League Association newsletter! Thanks for reading. We plan to issue this newsletter on a monthly basis just to update the members on all of what is happening in the world of DGLA.
Let’s start this off by talking about the big update to DiscGolfScene and the Michigan Cooperative Point Series (MICPS). Recently you may have noticed that the leaderboards have expanded to track many different stats. Before we just had the overall points battle, but now we have: weekly, monthly, and overall points as well as separate leaderboards for number of wins, number of rounds, and number of unique leagues played. Your discgolfscene profile may get some extra bling by added achievements that are tied to these new leaderboards. We also plan to use these new leaderboards to award discs, berths and other prizes (more on that later). Please take a minute to recognize Pete Crist, who made all of this possible through his programming wizardy and hard work. Thanks Pete.
One other new addition to DiscGolfScene is the “DGLA Members†only leaderboard. Are you a member yet? Wait, what does that even mean? Why would I become a member of DGLA? Hold on, let’s address these one at a time:
What is a DGLA Member?
Membership is open to everyone. We offer three levels of membership:
Player Member ($30 annual investment) – This is the main option for a player who wants to compete for prizes in the point series.
• Eligible for prizes in all competitions of the Michigan Cooperative Point Series for the current year.
• Member’s package including a DGLA disc and mini
• A portion of your investment goes to the DGLA Course Improvement Fund (more on that below) and you have voting rights in the selection process.
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA# (Hurry up, those low numbers are going quick)
Contributing Member ($15 annual investment) – This option exists primarily for those who wish to support our projects but are not interested in the league point series prizes.
• A portion of your investment goes to the DGLA Course Improvement Fund and you have voting rights in the selection process.
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA#
Supporting Member (No Cost)
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA#
So why would I become a member? Well, if you play a league on a regular basis, then you can win stuff! You also get a nice members package each year that you renew. A membership in DGLA shows that you are showing support, and numbers speak loudly to others, especially sponsors and parks and recreation decision-makers.
How do I sign up?? Here is the link for all membership information and to sign up:
http://www.discgolfleagueassociation.org/Membership_/membership_.html
…and here are a few more initiatives we want to mention here today:
Course Improvement Fund
http://www.discgolfleagueassociation.org/Courses/Grants/grants.html
Through our member investments we will be funding a course improvement fund. Here’s how it will work: We will take submissions from people who have a need for a new course or a new course improvement. All of the eligible projects will be displayed on the DGLA website. All paying members will have a single vote, and the top vote getters will be awarded cash to fund their project! Sounds simple, no? If you have a project in mind please contact us or check out the website to find more information on how to win funding.
DGLA Resource Directory
http://www.discgolfleagueassociation.org/Directory/directory.html
Our goal with the DGLA resource directory is to make one spot to find information for all of those disc golf retailers and equipment manufacturers out there. Feel free to go on there and search for a vendor, or even better submit a vendor that we don’t have.
DGLA Partners
To wrap up this first newsletter we would like to recognize our partners, who have contributed in many ways to get us as far as we’ve come.
DiscGolfScene – www.discgolfscene.com
Pete Crist and DiscGolfScene (DGS) is the heart of the point series. DGS “really ties the room together†so to speak, and makes everything possible. The partnership between DGLA and DGS is essential in linking players and leagues together to give birth to a state-wide point series.
Gateway Disc Sports - http://gdstour.com/
Gateway has been a great help for us in rolling out our member’s package. Check out the awesome custom stamped Wizard’s, and also look for some Titan baskets to be awarded by DGLA in the near future.
Michigan Disc Golf Organization (MDGO) - http://www.mdgo.org/
The MDGO is where all of the individual clubs in the state come together for a common purpose. Without their support we would not be able to offer all of these berths to the best tournament in the world – the Michigan Disc Golf State Finals in Ludington, MI. If you have never been to this tournament it is a must play.
Throwshop Ypsilanti - http://www.throwshop.us/
Throwshop contains the largest selection of golf discs in the SE Michigan area. Go check them out at Lakeshore Disc Golf Course.
Our other partners over the past few year include: Original Gravity Brewing, DiscgolfersR.US, 24 Cha!ns, Freeland Disc Golf, Metro Detroit Disc Golf League, Washtenaw County Glow League, and Ypsi Dubs League.
Thanks for checking us out, hope to see you out on the course throwing discs! .. Often!
The Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) is an organization that promotes disc golf by supporting: disc golf leagues for all levels of players, course creation and improvements, and the growth of local clubs and leagues. We foster a cooperative effort to achieve greater things for the players and organizers of disc golf. The DGLA also keeps an eye on the bigger picture: working for sustainable environmental practices and a strong local community.
Only 9 days left of the DGLA MiCPS- Summer 2012 - July 28th is the last day
Below is the summary of the last 7 HLW events - last chance for double points, last chance for Basket Raffle tickets.
Don't forget to purchase or win a Basket raffle ticket at one of these few remaining HLW - If the Titan Pro raffle is not mentioned during the event contact Foz to secure your raffle tickets - there are only 10 available per HLW event - first come - first serve. The odds are very good and only a few HLW left.
If you attended a HLW earlier in the season and raffle tickets were not offered and you wanted some, contact Foz and we can remedy this. I have had a few question on this topic and want to ensure everyone who attends a HLW has the opportunity to take this basket home. Ticket Sales end July 28th, even for these past HLWs.
Hot off the wire - I just received this info about next Wednesdays HLW at Firefighter - sounds like a great event with a lot up for grabs, even a MDGO state berth during the pre-round activities and I hear the course has seen several improvements made so its a great time to head out to Firefighter - and the weatherman is predicting around 85 degrees - Cool!
DOUBLE MICOOP POINTS! one of the last of this season!
July 25, 2012 @ 6:00pm doubles. DOUBLE POINTS! for all those guys up there in that leaderboard! since this is our HLW MiCPS round we can sell only up to 10 raffle tickets for a titanium pro basket that the DGLA will be raffling off at the end of July, tickets are $5ea, and half that $ STAYS with the league, which means we could possibly have another CTP added for $25 or have the $25 added to the ace pool! PRE-ROUND CTP FOR A BERTH TO MICHIGAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS! So make sure you get there early! LONGEST PUTT WILL BE FOR AN 11X KC PRO ROC. there is also a good chance there will be a CTP FOR A SKILLSHOT BASKET!, this cant be decided until we take signup and see how many players we have that are interested in paying for the CTP, we need at least 15-20 people but if we get more we may make it cheaper
