I have been thinking a lot lately about hosting another BATTLE format event. Those of you who have played in one of my BATTLES in the past know fun it can be wile also be totally exhosting. I have been considering variations that serve to pay homage to classic BATTLE indurance wile staying under the guidelines of local parks department rules on event insurance and sponsorship. I expect I will host one classic BATTLE one day event and a week long or even month long BATTLE format run through DGS in the spring of 2015.

More news to come as sponsorship, permitting and technical issues are worked out.

BTW, I hope be awarding at least one berth to the DGLA Oregon State Championship to each winner of these BATTLES.

Five Club RIVAL CLUBS scoring;



- 5 clubs = 6 events, 5 divisions = 25 possible points per club per event.

- Divisions; Open, General, Masters, Grand Masters, Women's.

If you club can't bring players for each division that's your clubs loss.

- Per division points; 1st place = 5 points (2.5club/2.5player), 2nd place = 4 points (2club/2player), 3rd place = 3 points (1.5club/1.5player), 4th place = 2 point (1club/1player), 5th place = 1 point (0.5club/0.5player)

- No points for club or players not signed in a division.

- 100 player limit per event (5 clubs x 5 players x 4 divisions = 100) each club may bring 25 players, but 1st place finish in each division is what counts so bring players that fit the divisions. If your club can't bring players that fit each division its your loss since only 1 player from each club can place in each division.

- Players will pay a buy-in of $5-$10 per event, Clubs will be required to put up a minimum $ amount to host each event at that clubs "HOME" course. "HOME" courses must be maintained by that club for a club to claim it as a "HOME" course.

- Trophies for; Total points by club per event( home clubs design), Points leaders in each division for 2012 season, TOTAL CLUB POINTS for 2012 season (engraved & reused each year)

- Prizes for players at each event provided by home club/buy-in at T.D.s discretion.



This scoring system can piggy-back on any existing event with singles-stroke-play format. RIVAL CLUBS T.D. must sign in players separate to existing event and specify divisions.

I have moved the D.O.R.C.s league back to RIVAL CLUBS. This is because the DGLA has given me hope this idea of a RIVAL CLUBS series can work with some admin adjustments. By the D.O.R.C.s league flying the RIVAL CLUBS flag we may be able to form a proper committee of tournament directors from D.O.R.C.s league regulars. This is because the casual/fun-loving atmosphere of the D.O.R.C.s league has drawn players from several clubs. CCDG hosted the first event of the 2013 RIVAL CLUBS series today at Keizer Rapids Park. All three "RIVAL CLUBS" for the 2013 series were represented today in various divisions. As the turnout was less than expected, clubs were once again NOT able to score in every division.

Terry Shuler of M.V.D.S.A. hosted the 2nd event of the 2012 season today at Wortman Park. The turnout was better than expected and 4 clubs showed up to challenge one another. Terry's layout was indeed difficult, challenging players with Mando and O.B. rules on most holes of the special 18 hole layout. Good work M.V.D.S.A. on preparation for RIVAL CLUBS.

CCDG was able to capture the M.V.D.S.A host trophy at this event and currently leads the series with 30 points,
M.V.D.S.A is close behind with 27 points, Chain Gang (the new addition to R.C.) has 13 points, and SSNW has 9 points on the season. Keep in mind folks that if a club were to sweep an event with 1st place in each division with 5 clubs, that win would be worth 30 points!

"Chain Gang" disc golf club has completed a work party at WOODMANSEE park in Salem, thus qualifying the club to claim WOODMANSEE park as their "Home" course for the 2012 RIVAL CLUBS season. Welcome David "AGRO" Jackson to the committee of TDs and Chain Gang to RIVAL CLUBS.

I am so excited that RIVAL CLUBS will be coming to my home course! When I hosted RIVAL CLUBS #1 at Keizer Rapids, I did that to introduce out of town players to Salem areas premier disc golf corse. I would have loved to host at WOODMANSEE but this is the next best thing.

As a note to M.V.D.S.A., SSNW, CCDG, whom have scored points towards the season total already, Chain Gang and INDEPENDENCE have some points to make up with the late season start and missing the RIVAL CLUBS #1. Points for season total will be calculated after "Season Finale" to consider turnout.

All "RIVAL CLUBS" events should be posted to tournament schedule with "RIVAL CLUBS" as the DGscene.com club in the overview section of registration. This will make it easy to get a turnout since the other clubs TDs will then know to schedule accordingly, and put together their home clubs flight crew. Under the "about" section you can describe layout, prizes, and plug your "host" clubs home field advantage.

All "RIVAL CLUBS" staff have equal opportunity to post news, events and add staff as other clubs decide to join. PLEASE make use of this privilege as it will only last the duration of the season.

I have had much less activity on this clubs page than I anticipated. My concerns are that TDs of some clubs my not be well enough informed, and thus miss out on the fun. There is still plenty of time for more events in 2012 , yet planing is key in this format, and plenty of advance notice is needed to make possible event schedule changes if needed.

Keizer Rapids gave the visiting clubs a warm welcome and the locals cold shoulder. RIVALS CLUBS are developing now! The buzz of this series is spreading and the committee of TDs agrees clubs should be allowed to join the series still. I had hoped we would have a schedule by now with events running into October. If clubs are allowed to join up to the day of the season finale, those clubs would miss points for missed events and thus have less of a chance to will the series but more importantly points could not be tallied after each event accurately since total possible points equal the total number of clubs in the RIVAL CLUBS. So it would not be fair to clubs joining early since late clubs would be playing for more points. Here is the solution; I will post the points now, see what happens at the next RIVAL CLUBS event.

The opportunity to be part of this special series is soon coming to an end. The March 3rd RIVAL CLUBS event at Keizer Rapids is the first event on the 2012 season schedule and will lock in the committee's staff. In other words if you don't get your club registered for the 2012 season by March 3rd, you won't be in the series.

A club Tournament Director (TD) who wishes to get in the RIVAL CLUBS series can contact me or any other RIVAL CLUBS staff to be added to staff of the RIVAL CLUBS. Each staff member is required ONLY to;
1) Contact a RIVAL CLUBS staff to be added to the RIVAL CLUBS club staff via PM or EMAIL. (for privacy)
Note- RIVAL CLUBS is run exclusively on discgolfscene.com so there are no club meetings except for events, it all happens here.
Note- Each RIVAL CLUBS staff member is a TD for their home club and has equal access to use this page, REQUIRED to host an event at their home course, urge RIVAL CLUBS players to attend as many RIVAL CLUBS events as possible to win points for their home club.
2) Host an event at their home course. FORMAT: Singles-Stroke-Play, This event may be already scheduled and RIVAL CLUBS scoring system can piggy-back on the final scores on that events leaderboard. This event does NOT need to be RIVAL CLUBS players exclusive.
3) Show up with your clubs players on March 3rd at Keizer Rapids to kick off the season and lock in the 2012 schedule.

So far only CCDG has set a date for a RIVAL CLUBS event and that is March 3rd @ Keizer Rapind. A club event scheduled before March 3rd 2012 could be your chance to host for RIVAL CLUBS league 2012 as long as that event is a Singles-Stroke-Play format. The RIVAL CLUBS scoring system can Piggy-Back on that event and prizes awarded separately.

For example;- A player may place in 8th place in the Masters division for the home clubs host event but,
- place 1st in the Grand Masters of the RIVAL CLUBS sine there was no Grand Masters div for that host event.
- A separate and additional buy-in for RIVAL CLUBS will go to prizes and end of season trophies.
- Host event T.D.s and RIVAL CLUBS T.D.s can work together to lighten the work load, but buy-in must be kept
separate sine not all players in host event will be participating in RIVAL CLUBS league.
- This makes being a Tournament Director for the RIVAL CLUBS league SUPER easy, especially if you have the

With all the "NO SHOW" slots where points could have been awarded I will be calling on the committee of TDs for their opinion on the protocol for what day of the week should be standard for RIVAL CLUBS. Since no rule was in affect at the day the RC3 was scheduled, I think the scores should count on that technicality. Expect a rule to be added for future events. Remember this is the first year of RIVAL CLUBS so we are learning. Next year I expect better communication in the committee of TDs.
