Well, the Sussex Leagues season is over, it was 24 weeks of absolute bliss . . . right?

Week 8 and double points night saw some come back action in 2 of our divisions and saw the front runner maintain their lead in the other two divisions. In the Open division . . .Scott Slauson, who only played 5 weeks, came back with a hot round (-11) to overtake the front-runner Paul Johnson (-10). In the Advanced division . . .Mike Harrington (me) came back from a 1 point deficit to Matt Atherton. This was my first seasonal league win in any of Terry's leagues in 3 years of playing leagues. With that . . . I guess I had better move up to Open next season. I've got some serious work to do this winter trying to add about 50' to my drives. Matt you are a competitor and I enjoyed playing with you this entire season. In the Amateur division . . . we saw newcomer Steve Musto maintain his lead over Adam Kindred despite Adam having the hot round in the division . . . its simply too hard to overtake anyone when it is only 3 people every week. We hope to develop this league further next year and get more of an AM division so come on back in 2012. In the Women's division . . . we saw BHRY Welch maintain her lead over my wife. I know it was a battle to the end. BHRY you definitely bring out the competitor in my wife and I enjoy hearing her get fired up to try to beat you. Your seasonal averages were only .13 strokes apart (in Loriena's favor), but you won by 3 points, so it looks like you did better on the higher points nights. I hope to see you two and a couple more Women in 2012!

The ACE POOL was cleared out with a wild CTP. Terry Miller was edged out by on of our AM divisional players Mike Szcachewicz by a tape measure call of 1/4 of an inch, so Mike got $33 and Terry got $18 for their CTP finish and we will start 2012 with $0 in the Ace Pool.

We got word from Sussex that they will not pull the baskets before October 31st so our 8th and final week is on! Bring yourself and a friend (especially if you need more points) for the battle royal of disc golf leagues. Its coming down to the wire in a lot of the division so it should be a fun night. Some people will prevail, and some will plunder, which one will you be?

First and Foremost . . . Terry will be calling Sussex to make sure they know we have one more week of league . . . in hopes they don't pull the course that day for some reason, since that is around their posted date for removal of the course. I will post here what news I hear from Terry about the status of Week #8, but I am hopeful the show will go on!

This week saw some further tightening of the divisions as people begin to drop their lowest point totals. In the Open division, we saw Mike Janowski pull ahead of Scott Slauson by 1 point and ended up 1 point behind the front-runnner Paul Johnson. I already put a phone call into Scott Slauson to make sure he shows up to double points night.

In the Advanced division, I pulled even with Matt Atherton by besting his round of (-6) by 1 to shoot a (-7) which also beat my personal best by one. It was a good night for me . . . I thought it would be better after I deuced #1 for only the third time in my life but I was very happy for myself as I have been striving to get past that -6 for a long time!

In the Amateur division we saw 2 newcomers (Nic Moen and TIm Nimmer) and the three Am stalwarts who we have had all season long (Steve Musto, Mike Szachewicz, and Adam Kindred). Nic Moen shot a +2 to finish in second only one behind Steve Musto's (+1). Now that's a competition!

The Women's division saw the bitter rivalry between BHRY Welch and Loriena bounce back in BHRY's favor again. She beat Loriena by 1 and has a 1 point lead on her for the season so it all comes down to double points night. If Loriena beats BHRY she will win the season, but if BHRY can hold strong she will hold onto the divisional win!

I will update you here about next week, but plan on coming out unless I make an announcement about the round being cancelled.

Don't forget week 4 is double points night so if you want to have a chance in your respective divisions you better show up this week and you better play well!

I was just kidding earlier . . .Matt Atherton was not the only highlight in week #3.

We saw Paul Johnson win again in the Open division . . . that's two weeks in a row shooting a -8 to top Mike Janowski and Joel Kamoske by 1 stroke. While Brandon Burbach bounces up and down more than . . . well you get the picture, we all should wish him good luck as he heads off to the USDGC in South Carolina next week. He earned the spot by being a top qualifier during the GMO earlier this May and has been eagerly anticipating this tournament. I wish him the best of luck and hope he can enjoy the whole experience as it is way more than juist about the competetive disc golf.

In the Advanced division . . . see earlier update. Plus we now have a heated battle for the fall season with Drew Griswold jumping into the lead this week with 18 points, Mike Harrington with 17.5 and Matt Atherton checking in at 17. Aaron Zittnan sits at 16 points and isn't far behind either and he is obviously capable of winning any given week so this may be his week to be thrown away and he is right back in the hunt.

In the Amatuer division we saw recent newcomer Steve Musto win his second week in a row with a +1. Keep coming back and bring some more Amatuer friends to join your division!

In the Women's division we saw Bree Welch take down her second week in a row . . . unfortunately over the league directors wife . . . Loriena Harrington. But we got good news when we found out that Becky Olkowski has off on Mondays now so she can come to league every week. It's nice to see three women every week out there!!!! Thanks Ladies . . . See Matt Atherton for your complimentary hug next week.

5:30 is our start time and we will attempt to do a CTP during the round next week since we haven't done one in a few weeks, it has simply been too dark to get anything accomplished after the round. Rest assured we will be fair and figure out some way to accomplish something.

And by that I mean we are starting at the new time of 5:30 which looks to be adequate at least for the next 4 weeks, after that we may need to get creative, but let me say this . . . glow devices are allowed if needed to finish up league so if it gets dark quicker than you had thought you can add LED's or perhaps use your glow plastic to finish up, be prepared with glow or LED stuff. Everyone has now received fair warning, so if you don't have the gear let me know and I can hook you up with some sweet, cheap, and easy to use LED lights to tape to your discs, or some sweet Champion Glow Plastic. If you are caught in the dark . . . its now your own fault for not investing in this equipment.

As for weekly news . . . we heard another person gripe about "a particular player" being in Advanced as opposed to Open, which is interesting considering the complainer and the recipient of the complaint both shot the same score this week. In all seriousness, I know the comment I heard was said in gest, but please let the League Director handle sandbagging issues ( and I am not saying "this person" is sandbagging . . . the jury is still out but he only has a few weeks to judge by so it is a little unfair to assume he is in the wrong division at this point. If you feel the need to mention that someone needs to move up please feel free to voice your concerns DIRECTLY TO ME IN PRIVATE, but rest assured I generally am aware of any and all people who are on the verge of being in the wrong division. We (Terry, Me, and of course all of you players) want this to be a fair league and we don't want someone to continue to dominate a division season after season, at some point they simply need to step up, but don't jump the gun and assume just because someone is playing well that they are necessarily in the wrong division. Your placement in a division hinges completely on your statistics and your average (unfortunately with new players I rely completely on their "hopefully" honest evaluation of their own game) and I pay close attention to this on a week by week basis when I do the scores.

As for the highlights from Week #2 of the Fall Sussex League . . . We saw Paul Johnson . . .coming off his big WI TOUR WIN at the Justin Trails Tourney in Advanced this weekend continue his hot shooting to take down the open division with a -10. Scott Slauson tied a hot shooting (10 strokes better than last week) Brandon Burbach for second place. In the Advanced division we saw Aaron Zittnan come in with a -5 to tie the league director (Mike Harrington) . . . both decided to kiss their sisters (see last week) and chop the funny money and the points rather than play it off in the dark. In the Am division we saw a new player (Steve ( and I did not get his last name because he showed up a few minutes late) come in with a +1 and take down the division. Maybe running late helped him prepare to take down the rest of the division. Wait I don't want to encourage being late.

In the Women's division we had a tie after regulation and Brianna and Loriena (+15's) battled it out on extra holes. . . and this week Brianna took down the win over Loriena. I am "happy" for Brianna as I know she was happy about her win tonight over my wife. This is looking to become a highly contested division this season with some really comparable shooting women. If you have a girlfriend or if you know any woman who plays, please tell her this is the league for her to play in . . . I have rarely ever seen 3 women at any league, so if we could get more that would be awesome!

MERCHANDISE QUESTIONS: If you have any specific requests please let me know . . . I do see Terry at least once a week and if there is something specific you are looking for let me or Terry know and if we can coordinate a transfer I will do my best. Please only request something if you plan to see me the next week, otherwise I will discontinue my offer to do this. I do not have a lot of room in my truck to carry a bunch of stuff around for a bunch of different people, but if you know what you want and Terry has it, I'd be glad to make the connection for you.

Ok everyone, after seeing how light. . . or dark . . . it was at the end of league this week out of necessity we need to bump the start time up to 5:30 so that we are not finishing 2 or 3 holes in the dark . . . keep in mind we lose a few minutes of sunlight everyday.Since daylight savings time goes until November 6th (the sunday before our 8th week . . . we may be able to make it a 10 week season starting at 5:30 for the rest of the season) . . . I will keep you in touch about the additional 2 weeks and ask for your input.

We had a request to do some sort of rolling start but that sort of takes away from the divisional nights and also opens up another can of worms, so for now lets just keep it at a set time and whoever can make it can make it. It isn't meant to exclude anyone on purpose. Please use my cell phone (262) 894-3404 if you are running late or going to be arriving right at the start time so that I can appropriately put you into a group.

On a more exciting note . . . Brad Weber was the big winner of the Innova Discatcher Mini Basket, Mike Broetzman took down the third raffle prize of a Mini Sharpie and 2 LED lights for glow golf, while Scott Slauson got the prize package of a License plate, a mini sharpie, 2 LED lights and a Shammy (to the supposed tune of $69 retail value).

Weekly highlights were the two top Open players deciding to split the points and the money rather than playoff in the dark . . . congrats to Scott Slauson and Mike Janowski who apparently both like kissing their sisters (who both shot -7). In the Advanced Division newcomer (sort of) Drew Griswold took down the division and tied the two top pros (mentioned above) with a round of 47 and his best league round. Keep it up . . .and pay no attention to the chants of "bagger" or "move up", those are people (Matt Atherton) who wish they could take down a divisional win by 6 strokes. In the Am division we had a newcomer Adam Kindred . . . thanks for coming out and you will take home an $8 voucher for Terrys merchandise. The Women's division saw a record number of participants tonight and if we could only get Megan Crass to come back to league we would have a legitimate 4 person division. Welcome to Becky Olkowski and Loriena Harrington (yes my wife plays disc golf too). Loriena (+13) took down the division tonight (forgetting to use her mulligan) and I think she has only played at Sussex about 3 or 4 times. Bree took second and Becky looks for revenge the next time she comes to play.

Week 5 completed 3 more to go, bring you lights as it is getting darker with a couple holes to play each week! Congrats to Mike Janowski, Ben Lynch, Adam Kindred, and Loriena Harrington for their weekly wins. Loriena had her personal best (+8) to take down bitter rival Brianna Welch, Adam Kindred remained consistent with his (+1) to take it down this week, Ben Lynch played as good as I have seen him play at Sussex to beat me easily by 3 shots, and Mike Janowski edged out Joel Kamoske by 1, but I heard Joel went on to beat Mike at bowling at Sussex Bowl 140 to 119. SO in the end, Joel takes the day with a 20 point lead!
