About this League

Participating league in the first Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series

This is a much more casual league than the Ypsi Dubs Summer league. Minimal Cost, some times No Cost, Format may change based on group consensus, currently we will play two weeks of doubles and then one of singles and see how that goes - Main focus is on having FUN through the Winter and a little competition, while keeping track of scores and points for those who like to monitor their performance. Some dates maybe canceled based on other local events/tournaments being held on the same date - TBD as most schedules for 2010 are not yet posted. Again if you play you have a voice in how this league will play. Get out and enjoy the warm days we have left while getting your Winter gear ready.... No Wimps No Winners - to use the Ice Bowl event slogan.

League News

Hang up the long johns & grab the sun block and bug juice
Well finally the last scores are posted and Daemon held off Pat and held onto the #1 spot on the leader board and is able to monopolize the Holy Grail – The only name on the Holy Grail – Two in a row League wins, so far.

The Perpetual Plaque at the RH lodge will be updated and then hung with:

Winter 09/10

1st Daemon Stahlin
2nd Pat Burke
3rd Jim (JD) Daniels

It’s your turn now – New season is starting up this Sunday for Ypsi Dubs Sunday “Church” league. Ace pool carries over and the Ann Arbor and MI Point Series begin as well. Yes you can get points in all three leagues. It all starts Easter Sunday. I know many of you need to head to Church Sunday morning or look for the Easter Bunny – Ypsi Dubs Church Service begins at 10:00 am like always but you may want to be a bit early for a few extra fun during registration. We will try a few new things to kick off the season. First we will have a new type of Pre-Round CTP. For those who went to OG after last Church service you will know it as Wobbly Basket or what ever it ended up being called. I’ll have the 4x4 pulpit on hand – make sure you have 5 putters or borrow from a friend. At payout we will give out the Winter league awards to those who are there – the other sinners can see me in the confessional ….

Congratulation to everyone on a great winter league. One of the funniest by far for me and I look forward to even better summer leagues. I have heard a lot of nice comments about the direction of the leagues. Yes there have been a lot of improvements lately – DiscGolfersR.Us and Disc Golf Scene.com have really helped connect us all with League info and league management is so much easier now with Disc Golf Scene.com. The sixth dollar at registration which helps ensure we have CTP awards, more winners per round. The Pre-Round CTP – which has helped us purchase the perpetual plaque for the Rolling Hills lodge for the top three in each league and the Holy Grail trophy which will reside at the Throw Shop to commemorate the 1st place Champions for years to come. A very important improvement is that I don’t have to fumble around at registration and payouts – Thanks to many of you who help out from time to time and a few that always help.

Special thanks for Matt Schooley who has really ran the Winter league – he has given up practice time, put up with all the shenanigans & BS and was at all but one league days – so we all could just show up and play – Thanks Matt.

Chris Gee also has really stepped up and helped out between shoveling tees, ice melt, reg assistance, Holy Water and Growler procurement and the attendance record - Thanks.

Rob Shaffer and Jake Schooley have made the Pre-Round CTP fun and exciting as well as jumped in when needed.

Greg Lane –Thanks for stepping in and running the league over the holidays.

Chris Behrmann, Nick Mucker & Tim Pilsbury who were always there ready to lend a hand and stepped up to help with the summer leagues – Keep Church in service year round…

But what I attribute most of the change, that ultimately leads to maximizing our enjoyment – All of you and a truly cooperative, friendly and encouraging spirit and mind set. New players are welcomed and encouraged. If things get messed up there is more cooperation than BS and together we get it done and have a blast – Thanks to each and every one of you for making this an amazing time on the course.

Tuesday Dubs will also begin this next week, April 6th . Several have been testing out Tuesday evenings. We started at 5:45 last week and just beat dusk. If it were cloudy we would have been racing to beat the locking of the gate. So we will start at 5:30 next Tuesday and 5:45 the following and keep adjusting as the sun hangs out longer and longer. I will update the league schedule and post notices.

I look forward to seeing everyone at some course, some league, some time during the week. This summer we have one or two Disc Golf league everyday of the week but Thursday, at eight great local courses. All part of the Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series and the Michigan Cooperative Point Series - so you can play around the state, get points or just see who is playing leagues in state. – And were still growing….
– It’s going to be a wild Summer – ENJOY!!!.

Ypsi Dubs Winter Church - Final 2 Cermons
Repent - the end is near....

Well as the weather begin to thaw us out it must be time to change our gear and get ready for Summer Salvation. Yes only two rounds left.

The last round of Ypsi Dubs Winter -={Church}=- is March 28th. Fear not, for the very next Sunday the Summer Church service begins and most of us can redeem ourselves for the indiscretion during winter play.

March 28th is also the DGLO Championship Series #3:
http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/DGLO_Championship_Series_3_2010

Brother Gee will be at Rolling Hills for those who can not make the pilgrimage to DGLO Champ Series #3 to support the next coming of D-GLO.

April 4th we will kick off the new season with the accolades due our brethren for their Winter achievements and some blessings to usher in the new season appropriately. A few advance highlights: The unveiling of the Ypsi Dubs plague that will immortalize the three holiest amongst us from each season, which will reside in the Rolling Hills cathedral (the Lodge) for eternity, or a heck of a long time. The Holly Grail will be etched with the name of the one who persevered and despite all we did to help them achieve less than ourselves, distinguished themselves above all else and so it shall be written//etched and then interned at the Throw Shop until the next is crowned. Both are perpetual symbols, to be added to each season for years to come. Or until I get my name on the growler and then that bad boy is mine,,,,,

The A2CoPS & MICoPS begin April 4th as well - Oh rejoice in the bounty of points that await us.

Remember, help those who need a hand and you will be rewarded many time over.

Peace be with you all....

League Schedules and more
All

I have had a few inquires into when Ypsi Dubs regular Tuesday league is starting up. This year it is April 6th to coincide with the A2CoPS Summer Point Series first week and the first ever Michigan Point Series - Yes you will automagically be in both. Fear not sinners redemption is still available on Sundays due to the over whelming desire to keep Church at Rolling Hills on Sunday in Service and a few great volunteers - Thanks Matt, Chris, Tim, Nick. Yes you get points and redemption at the same time. Church Winter league continues through March 28th. The very next week Summer league begins - no rest for the wicked - especially if your having wicked fun.

There are several more local leagues in the A2CoPS for the Summer which you'll see soon as well as several more from throughout the state which will be in the MICoPS. Note you can play as often and as many leagues as you want but only your best two scores of the week will count - this should help balance out, as best possible, the fact that we all have different schedules and constraints.

If your eager to get out at Rolling Hills on Tuesdays I know several will begin to play starting today. Chris Behrmann said he would be there ever Tuesday from now on and Scott White has posted that he will be there today:
http://www.discgolfscene.com/courses/Rolling_Hills_County_Park/scene or check your News.

League scores from last Sunday will be up by this evening - Two Aces - Way to go Nick Mucker and Dan Grady

Hope this helps but you can always check the Ypsi Dubs Club

http://www.discgolfscene.com/clubs/Ypsilanti_Disc_Golf

to see what is happening and I look forward to seeing everyone more often, in the sun, and at a course near us or some place in Michigan - Enjoy

Ypsi Dubs Church service 2/28
A few people have asked if Church is in service this Sunday as they will not be able to make the DGLO Championship Series #2. Yes - Father Gee has stepped up to ensure the Rolling Hills Church will be open for those who desire Church. Most will be at the DGLO event looking for redemption but if you can not make it Father Gee will have your back.

Ypsi Dubs the series - 2/14/2010 - Shhhh -Church is in Service
Well Welcome to our Church, Sean McFarlan, Ska Bob and Chris Day makes it out for his first Winter round.

27 players as a few had to go and see if they could crack some plastic but what a great day for a winter round.

A big Thanks for Nick Mucker and Chris Behrmann for clearing the pads yesterday - Great Moral support Chris. And to Chris Gee who spread soem cheer with his salt - We all owe you guys - THANKS!!!

Brain Welch parked the Pre-round CTP - Nice shot! I hope the etched Conner Brewery Growler and mug come in handy from time to time.

Ken Parks and Mike Raley took the two CTPs and got their hands on a $10 Throw Shop Gift Certificate. Mike hope you all the best in your rounds on the West coast - look forward to seeing you back on our courses in April.

Two Calhouns in the payout this week - luckily for me I had one of them on my team. Ben Calhoun and I took a bit to get warmed up but had fun and managed to squeak in at last cash at 4th place. Jon Steiner and Greg Lane edged us out by a stroke for 3rd. A power team Mike Raley and Bob Smart dropped three more strokes for -12 and 2nd place. Another power team Terry Calhoun and Ken Parks shaved more stroke off, -13 to take First and some extra points for being the clear "Outright Winners".

So how did this affect the points:
No movement in the top 6 places although Terry, Ken and Greg added points and got a little closer.

Chris Gee and Mike Raley both moved up and their both tied for 7th place with Joe Arnet. Ben Calhoun holds on to 10th place.

A2CoPS
As this week comes to and end and with only two more full weeks of regular leagues before the Final Event, here is how the 10 ten are fairing:

No movement in the top 5 but all added points this week except Daemon , so Bob Smart now is only 29 points out of first place - easily only one league round away.... Ben Calhoun in 3rd is 92 out of first but closing in steadily. 10th place - Joe Arnet - is 252 out of first currently, with 4 to 63 points separating the leaders from each other in the top 10. An Ace could make a big difference. What do the last two weeks hold for the points race? Will it come down to the Final Event on March 7th?

Hope to see ya soon - Keep the Faith

Peace
Foz

The Holly Grail
I'd like everyone's input on if this Trophy is worth of representing Ypsi Dubs for the next few years.

http://www.discgolfscene.com/profile/1064/pictures/album_1723/32377#32377

It would be a perpetual trophy in which we add the name of the winner (1st place) to after each league and display someplace where everyone can see it. A perpetual plague is planned for the lodge at Rolling Hills with the top 3-5 from each league but this would be the Holly Grail for 1st.

Is it worthy?

Keep the Faith - even during Summer
In discussion concerning the switch to Summer league and Tuesday evenings - several Church goers have expressed interest in also keeping Ypsi Dubs Church - In Service - (pending sanctioned and tournament at Rolling Hills). Several have jobs and life schedules that prevent them from playing on weekday evenings. Should the format of one of the league be different? I can not always attend so if you are interested in this let us hear your ideas and if you want to assist in ensuring there is always a League Coordinator or two on hand. Add your comments to the Talk - Thanks - especially to those who have helped so much with the Ypsi Dubs Winter league operation and making it so fun to participate in.
Quick Highlights from 1/24/2010
Slush & Ice with an occasional drizzle but all and all a pretty good day - could have been much worse weather wise per the forecast.

Welcome Kurt Maty (6184), Joe Wallow (22608), Mitch Winters (36898) to Ypsi Dubs Sunday Church Service – Glad to see you guys out. And thanks to all who made the trek out – some further than others – always great to see everyone out for some winter play.

Rob Shaffer ran the pre-round CTP and ran away with the booty – nice shot Rob.

Daemon & Sheldon pulled out a fantastic round, especially in these conditions, minus 15 – awesome guys. Almost tied the league record.

A three way tie at –11 but Framo (Brown Park!) & Ben Lengel took top cash from the playoff followed by Scott White & Mike Fortunato (101), Tim Gacioch & Dave Munro.

CTPs - Brian Welch grabs a nice Layer 8 pull over for his nice toss and Daemon hits another CTP.

I did not get the results of Chris Behrmann’s sponsored CTP – details to be added.

Leader board movers and shakers:

Jake Schooley move up to 6th, Ken Parks at 7th and Joe Arnet moves into the 10th position – nicely done gentlemen.

On the A2CoPS Leader Board:

The following moved up one position each:

JD to 5th
Joe Arnet to 7th
Pat Burke to 9th
And
GLane takes the 10th spot

Daemon Stahlin at 1st extends his lead over Bob Smart at 2nd by adding 30 points and reaching the 500 point level.

What will happen on the leader board this week? DGLO Championship Series #1
Get your pints while their cold. Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series (A2CoPS), Final Event March 6th. Make sure you listed on the A2CoPS Leader board to be eligible for the fun at Indy Lake.
