Great course. Lots of elevation changes and death putts. Hole 15 is one of the coolest holes in the state. Also hole 3 from the Longs is breathtaking. Going down a huge sledding hill into a beautiful fairway and the basket is perfectly placed down by the river. Hole 3 and 15 would be in my dream 18. A couple of the wooded holes seem like filler holes but it’s a solid course.

Note: Mondays are league day, you can still play but every hole has a wait. Definitely scout all baskets because this course has some tricky narrows and basket greens that drop off into rivers and such. Take your time because it's real easy to get tilted and lose a disc on a bad throw.

Concrete tee pads at long and short on most holes. Not sure if anyone but the players actually maintain the course outside of mowing the grass. This is a few locals favorite course and they get butt hurt if you say anything bad, thus the two negative votes.

it is not a must play course, but if you are in the area and looking for a quick fix... this will do it.

This course is one of the less fortunate of the courses near me. It's not a bad course but make sure you head up there at 10am or you will be stuck behind the casuals. This course hasn't been kept up with in a while. Hole 4 is getting overgrown. Some tees could be placed better and some trees could get taken down. They need new signs and garbage cans. It would be nice to have a course layout too. I was fortunate enough to go with someone who knew the course well the first time or otherwise, it's very easy to go from hole 1 to hole 11 (near picnic tables in woods). That all being said, it has a pleasant mixture of open holes and wooded holes. Wooded holes dominate the course overall, however. Be weary of your discs on holes 2-5. There's a bum there that tries to sell them to other players for like 5 bucks a disc. Overall, a decent course but definitely have played better.

I'd have to agree with earlier reviews, there are a few things holding me back from giving this an A+. The holes themselves, were great. I loved the unique challenges each of them brought. All 18 holes were appropriately parred and with most having a back and forward tee off, it gave more of an appeal to multiple difficulty levels.

However, this was my first time here, and I got lost far too many times. I had no idea where some holes started and where the next ones where. I guess with being a free to play course it has to be expected, but I have played better free courses before. Better signage between holes would be appreciated. Also, better consistency with signs at tee off pads (like where the hole is located in relation to the tee) would be great. I feel that 50% of holes had them and the other 50% didnt.

Lastly, it seems like a popular course for large groups of dudes to come play. Everyone is friendly however, if you're like me who played alone, people are fine with you playing through.

To be an A+ course this place needs better signage and direction. Otherwise I had a great day here and would definitely come back.

Thought I lost a disc on the 2nd hole, searched for almost an hour. Three holes later a guy walks up to us with my disc, claims he found it, and wants $$$ as a finders fee before he will give it back!! WTH? He takes it out of his plastic bag, filled with returnables, so it is now covered in smelly, sticky beer.
Needless to say, I took my disk back and didn't pay anything.
Keep an eye on your discs and the people around you on this course.

Couldn't agree more with Eirik Kaserud -- this could be an A+ if it was maintained. Lots of casuals play this course because it's free, but the holes are well laid out with good variety. Three nice downhill holes including #3, over 500 feet from the back tee. #16 is a good uphill hole and if you can throw 400 you can make the top of the hill. Some open holes and some wooded holes with narrow fairways. If you hit Cass Benton when it's not crowded with fools, it's a fun course to play.

Every time I hear people yammer on about making dg a ton more popular I think of Cass Benton, and hope it doesn't get big enough to make every park have the complete douche bag lack of respect locals this place has. If you don't like a place that is usually in shambles due to vandalism, and you hate waiting behind a group of 11 who won't let you play through and won't start teeing until they see you approach the tee pad- then this place isn't for you. I am not saying that the club out here is bad, just a large majority of the youth around the area really make this place worth avoiding at all costs.

Cass Benton Hills has two stories. First the good; The great course design, with a mix up 9 longs and 18 shorts. Great mix of Big bomb shots, (an epic blast off the top of the sledding hill) and some shorter technical shots weaving thru the tree areas. Unfortunately this area of land has been ravaged by Ash bore and the tree fall is on a nuclear level of destruction. Not a "pull-cart" friendly course downed tree's cover half a dozen holes. Still very playable, challenging and fun.

Second the bad; The Local yokels have trashed and graffitte'd every aspect of the course. Few original tee sign signs remain. There is a phallic obsessed community that have taken liberty to paint and draw their obsession on all objects living and manufactured. The course has no fee nor does the Hines Park system have any sort of park entry fee. Good I guess… but this is your end result. Groups of a dozen Teen-aged drinking and drug use are common sites. Just a fair warning to those family outing seekers. Finally Keep your eye on your disc as many who have played here have a story about a disc disappearing when you know damn well where it should have been.

Advice, Play this once majestic 2000 Pro/AM Worlds Championship course during the AM or early afternoon when local traffic is minimal. If the last time you played was in 2000, the course will hardly familiar with all the tree fall.

The course is not maintained at all, unfortunately. Fallen trees are usually moved, but most benches and tee signs are destroyed or graffitied. The lack of maintenance is the only reason I didn't rate this course higher, though.

I've been playing this course for over 10 years now and the deterioration is as bad as everyone has previously said. There are a couple of weirdos, a few cranks, some old jolly fellows, those who take it way too seriously, and those who don't take it seriously enough, Of course, and most importantly, those who show up every year, or never stop, to continue their seasonal friendships and good times. Having a wonderfully designed course that's free to call home is certainly a privilege and a pain in the ass.

Pros: It was designed for the 2000 Worlds; it's challenging, not geared toward any one style, and offers plenty of holes that everyone is good at to some degree. From technical to pro tees to rip your bombs, there's something here for everyone. When you stand up on the amateur tee at 8 in the evening, the view is absolutely breathtaking. Despite the cons, it is in fact a world class course.

Con: The trash is overflowing due to the amount of use the course gets. There are a lot of ways the overcrowding of the course affects its environment. While fun for some, like myself, mobs can form during the evenings any time of the week. It's one of those rare things that you certainly fear getting behind if they are a bunch of folks without good etiquette. The groups that I generally wind up in a mob with are courteous and let through smaller groups. that's not to say I've gone solo and run up against some jerks who'd not let me play through. The course gets very little attention from the county so there are plenty of downed trees and baskets in dire need of help. Just remember, the last time the county came through with chainsaws they mowed down the right half of 12, changing it considerably.

I've seen it dead out there, I've seen it as a rowdy mile-long party. I've almost gotten to fisticuffs, I've met the best of friends out there. I've seen the county clean things up, I've had to take matter into my own hands. This course has the feel of a community if you're there long enough and accept that there are going to be all walks of life at this course.

Looks like at one time there was good signage but virtually all of it is masked by graffiti. Unfriendly. Freakishly busy. Really unfortunate, there's a great course in there somewhere.

Cass Benton is the first course I ever played on 5 years ago, and I have to say it is still my favorite course. It utilizes the available elevation to a very good extent, and each hole is unique enough that they don't get boring. Holes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 14, 16, 17, and 18 also offer long and short tees to make them more challenging. I love the Chainstar baskets here as well.

Now, Cass isn't perfect by any means. The course could definitely benefit from some TLC. The course is missing a lot of signage and the few that remain are covered in graffiti. Bottle cap murals grace a few holes, while garbage and empty bottles litter other holes. The hole 2 basket is all but destroyed by flooding, while the hole 7 basket is broken completely. Also, hole 14 has a few chains that are not attached. In addition to all that, holes 1, 7, and 9 have fallen trees in the middle of the fairway that require you to either parkour your way over them or walk around.

As far as the other disc golfers, you can run into some cool people out there who are friendly and will offer advice. Other times, it's obvious that people are there simply for the "extra curricular" activities that take place at several picnic tables. Another issue here is large groups that move incredibly slowly, coupled with over-crowding. Usually you can just play through, so it's not a super huge deal.

Overall, it's a good course that has skillful shots for both beginner and advanced players. The thing that holds this course back is just maintenance, vandalism, and the shady crowd that only wants to get high in the woods.

There are great varied shots awesome elevations, interesting open field shots mixed long distance vs technical shots honestly its a fantastic design... However it suffers from a big downside...

The cons:
•Crazy busy in the afternoons, which is actually not that annoying to me but it does really work the course hard.
• Trash is scattered its so busy you get a lot of people who don't seem to care about the course, and its a problem that compounds on itself. The course looks dirty so no one tries to keep it clean
• Downed trees are NEVER cleared some of the same trees that came down months ago are still down, it really needs a local club to adapt the course and do course maintenance
• It's about the complete opposite of cart friendly, which for us guys who love using a cart is pretty annoying but not the worst
• can get really wet on one of holes making it almost unplayable in the spring
• Just difficult people out there lots of poorly practiced courtesy, not just from disc golfers, joggers will run backward in the fairway
• Last the Mosquitos can be brutal but that's expected in the spring and most of us are used to that out on the courses.

OVERALL: With a club spending a real good weekend doing course improvement this course would look just amazing even with all the wear and tear but currently there doesn't seem to be the dedication to the course it really deserves its just so busy I wish I lived closer to spend a good weekend working on this place I know it could be an awesome course with a little love.

A little muddy but I'm getting used to that as well as snow,rain,wind and what ever else Mother Nature can throw at me. This is a must see must play course and I plan on hitting it hard this season. However the course was still fun to play with its many hills and "thread the needle" approaches. Would really like to see some maintenance in a few areas but I'm sure it's not being done due to lack of respect to the resource.

I find it funny that the negative reviews have all gotten a -1 vote. There are some absolutely ridiculous groups of 7+ that go through. Now I have no issue with having fun with a group that knows the game and can shot smoothly without holding up the entire course, but there are all to often groups that are NOT respectful and consist of rookies or people who are only there to get high/drunk. These are facts. Deal with it. Garbage is seldom picked up, there is glass in pretty much every waiting area, and dead trees abound. HOWEVER, there are a lot of really cool people and some of the most seasoned players you will find outside of the pay parks.

WHAT MATTERS - go early and you will have a much better time, like plenty have already mentioned. As for the COURSE, I find it to be one of the more difficult spots around from the longs. Some holes are really wooded and anyone who cant drive/throw straight will grow irritated fast. Not as wooded overall as Rolling or Willow, but still plenty of obstacles. Some of the best features of the course are its elevation changes. They occur most notably on hole 3 (massive hill shot), 15, and 16. There are some holes with water in play, some with rough OB on the edges, but in general you can throw without much danger. One of the best parts of Cass is the amount of throw variations. Tommy, thumber, rollers, hyzer and anny drives, and pretty much anything you can imagine. The distance as a whole is not impressive in general, very few real all out driving, but enough to satisfy the power people. That being said Cass is more for smart and smooth shooting.

THE CONSENSUS - prepare to see plenty of chronic and brew intake if you go after 2pm on the weekdays and earlier on the weekends. The course has plenty of diehards that come out even in the winter. The course is really fun, not overally difficult for people with some game skills, but needs some maintinence like a mofo! With some love and donations of time and experience, this course could be much better. Make sure to teach those who are NOT aware of the etiquette of the game the right way, then maybe we can make Cass much better.

Yes, you do have to get there early to avoid a wait on the pads (before noon on the weekends, and before 3ish during the week) and yes, there is a lot of assholes that trash the course...but look past that! The hole layout is amazing! I really wish wayne county had the $$$ to keep this course in better condition, if that was the case, Cass Benton would be one of Michigan's top ranked courses

I wish I could have started earlier and seen this course in its heyday. If somebody ever adopted it though, it would clean up pretty, no doubt.

Beware the Cass-holes. You'll know them when you see them. They'll be the 5-8 dudebros throwing straight up into the air and taking 20 min per hole. I've had friends whose discs were stolen here as well (grabbed by group ahead).

The only thing I can say good about this course is that the first 9 or 12 holes are pretty fun to play if you can get around all the bullshit. I do not recomend this course to anyone. Really made me respect the upkeep of courses such as Black locust, OG and Monster. And many others I'm sure. But this course is a great example of why disc golfers have a terrible steriotype.

This was once great course, Time and some of the worst casual players have made it awful to play. Large mobs of disrespecting and disc thieving golfers make it one of the worst to try and play. Get there early in the day to try and beat those players out there and you will still have to contend with the erosion and decaying trees. If ever you want to see what happens when the city fails on upkeep and patrolling an area for seedy activity this course is it.

The local casuals can get very annoying especially from golfers who are used to going to the nicer local courses such as Hudson Mills and Kensington, but for being a free course that is not maintained barely at all by the city (the grass is mowed maybe once a month in the summer) Cass really is a gem.
