Does anyone have any news on the proposed DG course in Rose Park? Markus told me the county allotted $10k for a temp course to be in by November, but obviously those plans have changed.

Saturday I talked to some golfers playing there. They said 25 years ago the par 3 section south of the main golf course was a DG course, and the county met in September to discuss plans for returning it to DG. The county's meeting agenda said the representative for the new course is Dan Roper. Anyone know more about this or how to contact Dan?

Does anyone have contacts with Murray City? I would like to propose a course on a stretch of the Jordan River Park/Path near the Willow Pond Park and Rec fields; aprx. 5800 S. and 600 W. Does Murray have any interest in funding a disc golf course I wonder? I drive by on I-215 and always see this park screaming disc golf. I have mapped out a possible 18 hole lay-out at 5,326 feet with a 400ft hole and 295 hole ave. I posted the pics on the Tunnel Runners Facebook page.

So there are apparently two new courses that are opening up or have opened up in Utah county. Beacon Hills Park, a new 28 hole course in Highland, Utah. This course is apparently a combo of baskets and pole holes. Course designer wants feedback to make it awesome. And apparently there is a course in Cedar Hills in Heritage Park. Just letting the peeps know.

Have you guys heard of the 18 hole disc golf course in Springville Utah at Jolly Ranch up Hobble Creek Canyon. I just read a couple of articles that mentioned it online. Was curious if anyone has played it. Apparently there are baskets there. Anyways, signatures again would be bad ass. I don't have any official form or anything. I like Rory's idea of online stuff. But getting signatures at a tourney is an awesome idea.

Anyone that supports the sport can also sign, like my family is another 3 signatures i can get. If we can get this form or whatever if there is an online link or something, I can get signatures next weekend at the monster energy challenge. We can get them at the trickle, the breeze, and then I will be going to the cache valley championship which is the same day as the breeze where i can start the nudgas signing papers. After that my services will be unavailable...

Hey Russ, I am leaving for oregon but i will be back christmas and all next summer. If you can get a little momentum going before next summer, I would love to help out. I live in South Jordan and hate having to drive to creekside and taylorsville. In my head i'm always designing 9 and 18 hole courses at the parks around south jordan so I could be of help there. If you are going to either of the SL county rec tournaments, let me know. i will most likely be going to "the trickle," and could possibly talk to one of the members and show them my interest. Plus, since I will be going into the collegiate league of disc golf for U of O, I will probably meet some pros and PDGA people as well. If i come across the opportunity to share with one of the "powers that be" of disc golf the issue of lack of courses in utah, there could definitely be some outside help. Just keep me in the loop and i would love to help in any way to try to get some courses up in the Southern Western parts of the valley. And if we can unite NUDGA, Wasatch, 801 and Team utah, we could easily find 500 signatures. The scene here in utah is huge! Just a problem of getting everyone to sign one paper. I'm in the process of doing the same thing with the city of Salt Lake (not the county), so the area in the valley north of about 2700 South. We submitted an appeal the the mayor and the city council and are waiting for a hearing relatively soon. Great prospect with potential location(s) and design in place. Go ahead and do the same for SL County. The more the merrier. Great initiative. I'll keep everyone in the loop on when we need large numbers of folks to show up for the city public hearing, but it's great to do this for the entire valley (incl. the county).

Hello all. I just thought that I would post on some digging that I did as far as the development of new disc golf course in good ole Salt Lake. As you all may know, Salt Lake County is hosting two (2) disc golf tourneys next month at Creekside and Valley Regional. When I saw that I got pretty excited because I figured, hey this might be a good opportunity to touch base with the county and see what it would take to get some new disc golf courses installed. I spoke with a dude at the county by the name of Phil Eddings. Pretty chill dude. He basically said that the county parks and rec department are down with getting new disc golf courses in, but adding new courses in the valley are not part of the Salt Lake County's master plan. He gave an example, Crestwood Park. I don't know if any of you have been there, but there is a ton of open space there that could totally fit an 18 hole disc golf course. Salt Lake Parks and Rec are aware of it, but a disc golf course is not part of the county's master plan for that park.

With that I mentioned to Phil, what can be done to change that and potentially get a disc golf course installed. This is what he said. We, as disc golfers, would need to present to the county the growing interest of disc golf in general and show that the public would like to see more disc golf courses installed. How would we do that? Phil told me that we could get 500 signatures of peeps who would like to see new disc golf courses. Every week, Salt Lake County has an open meeting to the public where the public has an opportunity to present any issues or things they would like to see done by the county. If we were to show up to one of those meetings and show public interest in disc golf and the development of new courses, that could put disc golf on the "master plan". We would need to give them some examples of parks that a disc golf course could go into, like Crestwood Park. Also let them know that from and expense standpoint, it is relatively cheap to install a new disc golf course.

So I dunno, I would love to get this ball rolling with anyone else who would like to get involved. If we had one or two more courses added in the valley that would be super sweet. Maybe get a new 18 hole course in Crestwood and potentially get another course like in the south west part of the valley, like in Riverton or South Jordan or something.

What are your guys thoughts?

The closest places to play are dry creek, creekside, and taylorsville so a course anywhere in that area would help out, even if it was just a little 9 hole course. We just need to communicate effectively, and be organized. I know we can raise enough money once the time comes. Also, I have an update on the course at the U. I spoke to Mary Bohlig, Director Campus Recreation Services University of Utah ([email redacted]). She says they are trying to find somewhere else on campus to put the 9 baskets they removed. She didn't give a timeline, but I asked her to keep me in mind if they can't find somewhere to put them so we use them in a new course.

Also the 'Natural Areas' on that list may be off limits because of their ecological significance, but I was wondering about Jordan Park (33.5 acres) or Parley's Historic Nature Park (87 acres). Check out the pictures, they look promising in terms of challenging landscapes, particularly Parley's has a lot of land and challenging topography. Any other park on that list you think might work as well? I will definitely suggest Fairmont too besides the aforementioned ones.

I have an official meeting with her the morning of Friday April 20th and will know more after that.

I really like the idea of a course along the walking trail and park area across from Murray Parkway golf course(north side of I-215). It too runs along the Jordan river. I believe the park and walking trial area are called Willow Pond Park. Also Cottonwood Heights has announced new park land development by the Cottonbottom and Tuscany, that area has great potential for a disc golf course. I wold love to hear a conversation about Salt lake county golf courses putting baskets on unpopular golf courses like Pepple Brook, or Rose Park.

So I was on a run today on the Jordan River Parkway Trail, and as I looked, I found that the land near the trail between 10600 south and 11400 south would be perfect for an 18-27 hole dgc. The other good news is that I know the land is owned by the South Jordan Parks and Rec because they have about a million signs that all have the logo on it. It would make for a really fun course because I saw spots for short, long, technical, and water hazard holes. Dave if you are looking for new ideas or haven't been in that area, I suggest checking it out

So last night I got a call from Emi a friend of mine, who is the Director of ALL parks in Salt Lake City. She directly reports to Mayor Becker. She wants to meet with me to talk about disc golf and she is "looking for that recreational opportunity in SLC" and wants my recommendations. GREAT NEWS! So if any of you can give me their realistic ideas or opinions about potential parks in the city that lend themselves as places for our beloved sport let me know here or by email at [email redacted]

My good friend Emy Maloutas is the new director of Salt Lake City parks. She is now in charge of 126 parks (http://www.slcgov.com/publicservices/parks/list.htm) within city boundaries. When I asked her how to approach a new disc golf course in the city of SLC, she responded that if a bunch of us constantly send emails to the Mayor's office ([email redacted]) demanding a course at a specific park, he will contact her and ask her to take care of it. I don't know how efficient or successful this approach would be, but it's worth a try. I recommend for us to FIRST go through the list (see link above) and discuss amongst each other which park of the 126 is the best one for consideration. Then SECOND we create a proper form email that many of us can send to the mayors office individually. I know it is limited to only SLC and not the surrounding communities, but still it's worth a consideration. What do you guys think?

Jake, Markus, Rory and all DISC GOLF IS AWESOME!! As you all know. First of Jake, YES, I am playing in both The Trickle and The Breeze, playing in the Semi-Competitive Division. Also, that is pretty sweet that you are going to the U of O to play for the Ducks and their disc golf club. Dude, you will be chilling with the likes of Dave Feldberg, which is totally bad ass. But yeah, I would love for us to all get together and hash out a strategy to get signatures or whatnot to present to Salt Lake County. Also... we should all hook up for some disc golf and get a round in soon as well... you will all kick my ass... but it would be fun.

As far as uniting all the clubs for signatures, that is an awesome idea. Would love to do that. I would definitely need some help in getting that done just because I really don't know that many dudes outside the 801 Krew, or even in the 801 Krew. I tend to be a pretty solitary dude But yeah, we should definitely get together and possibly get that ball rolling for multiple club backing.
