Hello Everyone,

Yes, that's right. it is Slosh time again! As many of you know, we used last years Slosh series as a fund raising effort towards the new baskets at Lunchtime, and we got an amazing response to that effort. The new baskets and a lot of hard work by Dan Brown & the entire DGOD crew have really made Lunchtime a considerably better course to get a round in on.

With that in mind, Stumptown has decided to run this winter's Slosh series as a fund raising effort for the new course at McCormick Park in St. Helens. This new course is being spearheaded by Jared Fischer, Logan Miller & Sean Phillips and looks to be another very cool addition to Oregon disc golf. Please help support this endeavor by attending as many Slosh events as you can manage.

With the exception of the finale at Blue Lake, each Stumptown Slosh event is a 1-day, PDGA sanctioned C-Tier event. Entry fees are $30 and $5 from every entry will go directly to the McCormick Park course fund. The finale at Blue Lake Park will be a 2-Day event with a single round each day using tee times.

Slosh #1 - Sat - 12/15/12 @ Timber Park Check in 7:30 to 8:15 Tee off at 8:30

Slosh #2 - Sun - 01/20/13 @ North Bonneville

Slosh #3 - Sat - 02/16/13 @ Stub Stewart State Park

Slosh #4 - Sat & Sun - 03/9 & 3/10/13 @ Blue Lake Park

Please Note: Due to what we expect to be overwhelming demand for the Blue Lake event we will be reserving the first two weeks of registration for this event for Stumptown members only. After that two week window, registration will be open to everyone.

I will post more information on all of these events once some additional details are ironed out.

Although you do not have to be a Stumptown member or PDGA member to participate its nice to know we have your support. Hey Peoples!!!

Mike Phillips is scheduling a work party at 9:00am this Saturday (10/20/12) to clean up the trees that Ranger Steve is cutting down this week at Stub Stewart. Steve is cutting down 4 trees each on the fairways of holes 15 & 16. Because the trees that he is cutting are pretty large we really need to go in there and remove the wood he is bucking. We will have the use of the gators, wheelbarrows and the one ton. This is going to be the last organized work party at Stub this year due to the rain that will be coming, so we are hoping for a good turn out so we can get as much done as possible.

Also on the agenda is the removal of the stump behind 15's tee pad and removing the choker chain on the fairway of hole 15. We will also have an eagle scout working on the installation of the remaining benches that go on the back 9 holes: holes 13-18.

The remaining work at Stub should be some chipping for the rangers, some building projects for certain greens & stairs on fairways which will be tackled next spring. We will also be installing the new tee signs some time this winter or early spring after the final placements are determined on Holes 12, 13, 14, 16, 17 & 18.

Weather looks like possible showers so dress accordingly. If there is interest after we are done to play doubles then I can organize that. I am hoping to bring some snacks and drinks for after the work party but I will need a head count so please email the group back saying whether you can make it or not.

In case it has been a while since you've been out there, due to a lot of hard work by Mike Phillips and a few other people, the course at Stub Stewart is really starting to come together.

Please consider coming out on Saturday to help us get all of this work done.

This is it. The grand opening for the disc golf course at Blue Lake Park is tomorrow 8/15 at 11:00am.

If possible, come on out and join us as we cut the ribbon and open the course up for play. If you can't make it tomorrow, come on by when you can and enjoy the fruit of many, many hours of hard work.

This is a last reminder that we need your help this Saturday out at Stub Stewart State Park to get the course in tip-top shape. If you can spare 1 hour before you enjoy a round of golf on the 18 hole course that's great. Please bring a set of gloves and a smile. We hope to have the course all cleaned up by the end of summer and ready for Fall Play.

We are meeting in the Hilltop Day use parking lot at 9am and we will be cleaning up the walkout of hole 11, 13's fairway, and the green are of hole 7. You need to bring Gloves to protect those hands. ... show more ›

We are meeting in the Hilltop Day use parking lot at 9am and we will be cleaning up the walkout of hole 11, 13's fairway, and the green are of hole 7. You need to bring Gloves to protect those hands. Also its a good idea to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt, but bring shorts and a tee to change into after the work is done and its time to play. I will provide some refreshments but its always a good idea to bring your own water and snacks. Hopefully soon we will be able to host the first tournament at this course.

It is work party time again. If you are interested in being a part of the creation of Blue Lake Park come on out on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00am. Next Adventure and Stumptown Disc Golf will have a set crew working on the new tee pads and everyone else will be working on clearing brush off some fairways.

If you are interested in helping out, please bring gloves, had tools and a lot of energy! No power tools will be allowed. Our objective is to have this course in the ground and playable before the end of the summer. The only way we can accomplish that is with a lot of help, so come on out to Blue Lake Park and help get Portland newest course in the ground!

Hello Everyone,

This letter is long overdue, but we wanted to give everyone something of a "State of the Union".

It has been a busy year for Stumptown Disc Golf. Many of our projects have come to fruition and we have more in the works.

Here are a few of the projects Stumptown Disc Golf has been involved with:

Lunchtime Disc Golf Course: Working in conjunction with Disc Golf or Die, we ran the Stumptown Slosh Series this winter as fund raising tournaments for new baskets at Lunchtime Disc Golf Course. Overall, the entire project was a great success and we even had the pleasure of playing the final Slosh event at Lunchtime on the very baskets the series helped to fund. As cool as it was to see those new baskets in the ground, it was even better to see how ecstatic the church was that we raised all that money for their course.

Blue Lake Park: With the support of Next Adventure and Metro, Stumptown Disc Golf has recently started the installation of the Dave Feldberg designed course at Blue Lake Park. Many of you have offered to help out with this installation, and we had our first major work party this past Saturday. We had over 18 volunteers working on installing four 6' x 12' tee pads and we cleared out one of the more overgrown fairways. It was really cool to see everyone working so hard on this project We will be putting the word out again soon for the next Blue Lake Work party. We'd love to see you there.

Pier Park: This has been a great year for Stumptown Disc Golf, Next Adventure and Portland Public Parks. We have nurtured a good relationship into a great one, and if you have been out to Pier Park lately you can see exactly how this relationship has benefited Pier Park. We have built new pathways on several holes and we have plans to continue adding pathways as time progresses. On April 21st we completed our latest Pier Park project, done with the cooperation of Portland Public Parks, and in conjuntion with a Solve clean-up Oregon event, was the rebuilding of original hole nine's tee area. If you'd played Pier Park this March you would have trudged through a soupy, muddy mess just to tee off. With all of that in mind (and on our shoes) we dug up about 15 wheelbarrows full of sloppy, wet bark chips, carted them off. Then we lined the entire tee area with peeled logs like the pathways we'd installed earlier and the back-filled the entire area with about 8 loads of gravel. All in all, the area looks awesome and we will likely be doing more projects like this one to further improve the course.

Milo McIver State Park: Recently Stumptown Disc Golf teamed up with Oregon State Parks and Jeff Cox Construction and put together a plan to replace the bridge on the stump hole at Milo McIver State Park. Gone is that rickety old 12 foot bridge that was completely submerged for half the winter, and in its place is a beautiful 20' long boardwalk. We are extremely happy with how the boardwalk turned out and have received numerous compliments on this project. I know everyone who plays in the Fling this year will love it as well.

Canby, OR: While the club itself was not too involved with this particular project I did want to give a shout out to Stumptown Member Ryan Gwillim who spearheaded the installation of the new 12 Hole course in Canby, OR. Ryan lead the charge on this project from day one. He lined up the property, the funding, designed the course and the worked tirelessly until it was in the ground. Certainly there were a few more people who pitched in along the way, but Steve Carson, Josh Dearing and Scott Searles put in a lot of time helping Ryan with the installation in Canby. Thank you guys for all of your hard work.

Which brings me to the primary reason for this letter: Stumptown Membership and renewal. So many of these accomplishments were done in part with money raised by club memberships. If you haven't joined or renewed your Stumptown membership in a while, we are hoping you'll consider doing it now that you're aware of what is being done on your behalf. As much as we would love to see all of you out at work parties, we know not everyone has the time to make it out there. We all have projects and responsibilities that require our time and energy, but joining or renewing your Stumptown membership, and maybe picking up a bag tag will help give us the resources to do even more projects like the ones we did this year.

As a non-profit club we have very limited resources and we strive to get the biggest possible bang for every buck put into the club. We are all volunteers and not a single one of us makes anything from being involved in these projects. Just by joining or renewing your membership, every time you walk past a club project, you'll be able to say that you helped fund that project. Another, less tangible, but still very real fact is that by joining Stumptown Disc Golf you help give us the numbers we need when we present cities, counties, parks departments or other organizations plans for even more projects started. Our sport is young and our strength is in numbers.

Stumptown Perks: Some of the other perks of Stumptown membership are the $5 discount on your annual PDGA membership renewal and my personal favorite: the 15% discount on anything at Next Adventure. Even if you only make a purchase or two over the year at Next Adventure the Stumptown membership will pay for itself.

Well folks... I have had tons of people tell me they want to help with the installation of Blue Lake Park. Well... now is the time to put your money where your mouth is. This Saturday, May 5th 2012 at 10:00am Tyler Christensen & Carl Thorne will be supervising a work party in preparation for the upcoming pouring of the first six tee pads. The main tasks at hand will be the preparation of the tee pad areas and the clearing of a few of the more overgrown holes.

Tyler & Carl will have a few tools available, but if you have some available to you, it would be extremely helpful if you could bring some as well. The main tools you'll be needing are: Shovels, Pickaxes, Machetes, Pole Saws and Loppers. Please Note: We are not approved to use ANY power tools as of yet, so don't bother bringing those. At the very least, be sure to bring yourself a pair of work gloves.

This year Next Adventure will be hosting the party at the Next Adventure Paddle Center Friday December 14th at 7pm. Stumptown Disc Golf is pleased to announce the final Slosh event for the season. Stumptown Slosh events are inexpensive, one-day PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier events aimed at giving players of all skill levels a chance to compete during the winter months. Slosh events also give our club an excellent means of showing the ropes to new tournament directors wanting to learn the ins and outs of running PDGA sanctioned tournaments.

As many of you know, Stumptown Disc Golf decided to use the entire Slosh Series this year as fund-raising events to help replace the old baskets at Lunchtime Disc Golf Course. Five dollars ($5) from every Slosh entry fee this season has gone directly to the Lunchtime basket fund. It is everyone's support of these events that is allowing us to play this final event at Lunchtime Disc Golf course on the new baskets we have purchased.

Also, Because Lunchtime is a smaller course with just 15 holes, rather than limit the size of the field to 60 players, we have decided to play this event in groups of 5. That will allow us to accommodate up to 75 players, and since the course plays pretty quickly anyway, I doubt this will slow things down too much at all.

Also, I have heard through the grapevine that as a way of saying thank you to the disc golf community for our efforts, the church has decided to provide lunch to all players in the event.

Portland Public Parks and Stumptown Disc Golf will be out at Pier Park on Saturday to installing 4 new teepads for the winter course layout. We will also be cleaning up a some of the fallen limbs from this latest storm.

When we're done we will be dropping baskets into the new pin positions and playing the first rounds on the new layout. It should be fun, so please come on out and help out.

Stumptown Slosh events are inexpensive, one-day PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier events aimed at giving players of all skill levels a chance o compete during the winter months. Slosh events also give our club an excellent means of showing the ropes to new potential tournament directors wanting to learn how to run sanctioned tournaments.

Once again news has gotten back to me about someone spreading outright lies about our events.

Sadly, it always seems to be the same people, but what really kills me is that I'm not sure if these people are intentionally spewing lies, or if they are just painfully misinformed and too lazy to get the facts straight. In any case I am here, once again, to lay everything right out on the table for the world to see.

Here are a few constants. (ie: these do not change, regardless of the event).
• Stumptown Disc Golf is a non-profit entity that is 100% run by volunteers who do not make ANY money from our events.
• All money from a division stays within THAT division. We do not move any money from MA1 to MA2, or from MM1 to MG1.
• All money from Amateurs regitration stays with Ams. Period.
• In the event Stumptown does make ANY money on ANY event the club runs that money goes directly back in to the local disc golf community in one way or another. For example: in the form of lunch at one of our many work parties.

If anyone, anywhere tells you anything that contradicts the above information they are lying. Period. I'd be more than happy to show the books to any reasonable person who wants to take the time to learn how we operate.

Now, if you look closely at the payout structure for the 2011-2012 Slosh Series they will see that the payout is a little lower than you would normally see at a sanctioned event. This is solely due to the fact that we are trying to raise money to buy new baskets for Lunchtime Disc Golf course.

If you are a player whose concern is focused completely on payout rather than helping upgrade one of your local courses that is totally fine with me, but the Slosh Series are not the right events for you. We have other events like the Beaver State Fling that cover those bases quite well, thank you.


Here is a complete breakdown of where Slosh Series registration money goes:

Slosh #1: Entry $30

$2.00 -- PDGA Sanctioning
$5.00 -- Lunchtime Basket Fund
$12.00 - Players Pack (Hoodie, Premium Disc & some misc shwag)
$11.00 - Directly to Scrip Payout

(Please note: The hoodies were arranged by Justin Gross and paid for by North Bonneville, so that did not affect our payout at all. Stumptown & Next Adventure also bumped up the Am scrip payout by an additional 25% that is not included in the above calculations.)


Slosh #2: Entry $33.00 (Projected)

$2.00 -- PDGA Sanctioning
$3.00 -- Horning Hideout's Fee
$5.00 -- Lunchtime Basket Fund
$12.00 - Players Pack (Premium Disc & some misc shwag)
$11.00 - Directly to Scrip Payout

(Please Note: We are working to try to get some additional shwag onto the players packs for Slosh #2, but again this will not affect overall payout).
The people I have been working with over the past few years to help drive Stumptown forward are some of the coolest and most upstanding people I have ever worked with. No, not everyone (myself included) is perfect, but we all have the best interests of Portland disc golfers in mind.

Every time I hear about these shameful games people are playing it just kills me, because I feel like it is a direct attack on these people who work so hard for no other reason than that they want to help. So, next time you hear someone spewing lies about Stumptown... consider all of these volunteers donating their time, and even if you don't feel like sticking up for Stumptown, please stick up for them... because not only do they deserve it... they have, quite literally, earned it.

So there you have it. Those are the cold, hard facts and if anyone tells you anything otherwise, for whatever reason, they are not being honest with you.

We would like to announce the 2011 Stumptown Christmas party Friday evening December 16th at Next Adventure's warehouse. This party is open to all current Stumptown members and all members are welcome to bring one guest. Also, if you have been on the fence about joining Stumptown, come on down and join for 2012 and enjoy the party on us! Also we will be taking 2012 renewals at the party.

The party will be Friday December 16th 6:30 to 10:00pm at Next Adventure's warehouse, 326 SE Divison Place.

Stumptown will be providing pizza & soda. Next Adventure will be providing a keg & some wine. We would request that guests bring a food item to share like a desert, chips & dip, or some sort of side dish.

We will have a 9 hole mini course set up ready to play at 6:30. A big screen will also be set up, and we will have some rad disc golf DVDs playing. Also if you have some music you would like to share, and you have it on an iPod bring it and you can plug it into Next Adventure’s sound system.

We will have several contests going on: There will be a prize awarded for the lowest score for both ladies & men on the 9 hole mini course. We will have a putting contest. Also an ugly sweater contest, so make sure you wear your best ugliest sweater. The winner of the ugliest sweater contest will be decided by the members in attendance. All prizes will be provided by Next Adventure.

Keep in mind that if it is cold outside it will be cold inside the warehouse, so dress warmly including gloves and hats. Bryan of Next Adventure is going to look into renting an event heater for our party, but if any members have some good propane heaters they can bring that would be awesome.

As many of you already know the Stumptown Slosh series are one-day PDGA sanctioned C-Tier events the club uses to help mentor members who want to try their hand running PDGA sanctioned events. We will also be celebrating all of the volunteers who stepped up to help out at the Beaver State Fling. The event turned out wonderfully and it is all due to our awesome crew of volunteers. We figured this would be a good way to say thank you to everyone who helped out.

Clean Up Stub Stewart State Park Part 3, Sat Aug 25th 9 am @ Hilltop Day Use Area

This weekend Jeff Mittl will be leading a work party at Stub Stewart State Park.

The team will be working on some Building tasks near holes, 9 10 & 11.

The green of hole 9 needs to be finished with the stairs and platform work to level out the greens.

Hole 10 needs the platform behind the tee box built to allow for a run up on that tee shot.

Hole 10's fairway needs the tiered stairs up the fairway installed.

Hole 11 needs the green leveled and retaining wall built on the backside with stairs exiting the green on the right hand side.

All of these tasks are needed and significantly will improve the play of these holes. Plus these are the fun parts of course maintenance and installation so if you are not playing in the NAAC and want to help make this course better please lend you support to Jeff Mittl on Aug 25th 9 am @ the Hilltop day use area inside Stub Stewart State Park.

Stumptown club members Garry & Emma Hanely are teaching two series of disc golf classes this summer for Hillsboro Parks and Rec at Orchard Park. One class is for teens and adults, and one is for families. Both classes are for beginners and intermediate/recreational players. Folks can sign up for one or more classes. Here are the details:

State Parks Day at Stub Stewart June 4

Hey everyone,

Free day admission and camping at Stub on this Saturday, June 4th. I'll have a table there representing disc golfers and Stumptown. So, if you need a good excuse to golf this course, or if you helped build the course and would like to show it off to others, this would be a good opportunity.

I know there's a couple other disc golf events going on, but since I'm not playing any of them, I figured I could do this. Since Emma and I are locals out here, we were asked to attend the event a couple years ago. We set up a couple baskets and introduced people to the game. That was before the course was completed.

I'll probably still bring a couple baskets, but I'll also direct interested folks out to the course and play a round myself at some point. I'll be out there setting up about 11:30, and will stay through mid-afternoon.

Come join us for May’s Stumptown Club meeting at Next Adventure's new warehouse at 326 SE Divsion Place. Come early, and play a round of mini golf. Next Adventure will be setting up a 9 hole mini golf course inside their warehouse for club member to play before the meeting. The course will be set up at 6:00pm, and the meeting will start at 7:30pm. There will be prizes available to win. Come early, and don’t forget your favorite mini disc.

Next Ad...venture has again graciously offered two $50 gift certificates for current 2011 club members to possibly win at May’s meeting. All current Stumptown members who are in attendance will be eligible to win, and anyone who brings a new member will receive an extra raffle ticket. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the meeting.

It is time for some "almost" spring cleaning at Pier Park. Portland Public Parks has some work mapped out for us and we would love to see as many people out there as we can.

The plan at this point is to start work at 9:00am and work until around 1:00pm at which point Stumptown will be supplying all workers with a free lunch.

After Lunch we'll be having a bag tag round for anyone who has a 2011 Stumptown Bag Tag. (including our Chick Flick bag tag holders)

So if you have some free time and you'd like to help us clean up Pier Park, please come out on Saturday, March 12th.

After a slight delay, the 2011 Stumptown Bag Tag League is up and running. The time is upon us to up the anti of your regular friendly game and put up some real stakes. Better yet, if you compete in weekly or monthly tournaments, you can not only come away with a victory, but triumph and take home the lowest tag of your competitors. Bask in the glory of Stumptown stardom as you work your way to the top of the bag tag league. Lets not forget that they also look awesome on your bag and show your support for an amazing club with fun friendly competition.

The bag tags are available for purchase online for a small sum of $10 dollars. They will also be available at exciting events such as the Stumptown monthly meetings, club sponsored tournaments, work parties, and any other random events I will be attending.

Membership in Stumptown Disc Golf only costs you $10 per year. So far this year over 100 of you have renewed or joined. However, that leaves over 200 members that have not renewed and another 100 friends of Stumptown Disc Golf that are on this mailing list, but haven't joined the club. If everyone paid their 2010 dues we would have over $4,000 from membership fees to promote disc golf in the Portland metro area.

We are celebrating the end of the year with a party!

Bring a plate of cookies or holiday snacks to share along with a wrapped gift and a putter and you'll be set to enjoy the evening. We'll have a basket setup for a putting contest and several Wii's hooked up to projectors for playing Tiger Woods or Resort disc golf. Our annual Yankee Disc Swap will wrap up the evening. We will follow Stumptown Rules for the gift exchange and you can bring a disc to exchange or another disc golf associated gift.

You may also want to bring a chair to sit on if you aren't the type to stand all night.

Winter is here, and with it's arrival, the Slosh Series is back!

Stumptown Disc Golf is proud to announce the first of 4 winter sanctioned events, the Nanook Open. The Nanook Open will be played at Timber Park, in Estacada, on December 19th. The cost will be $35 for all participants, regardless of division. Last year at Timber we actually got to finish golfing in about 6 inches of snow, and everyone had a blast! We can't promise snow this year, but we're confident it will be a great time.

How well do you know the rules of disc golf? It's game time with the rules. We will present a variety of scenarios and your assigned group will be asked to choose the correct result. The goal of the event is to challenge you, teach you the rules AND prepare you to take the PDGA Officials test. Our goal is that everyone in attendance will leave the meeting prepared to take AND pass the test. Don't forget taking the PDGA Officials test for FREE is a benefit of Stumptown Membership!

The meeting will start promptly at 7:00 p.m.

I think the new doubles record at Leverich was set at -8 this weekend. I'm surprised it wasn't lower, but personally found it challenging on Saturday to hit birdies. Maybe next time there is a doubles event we can hit double digit sub-par scores.

We will be preparing Leverich Park for the tournament on the 21st and will be installing 6 anchors for alternate basket placements, distributing gravel on most of the tee pads and cleaning up trash around the park.

Bring shovels, post hole diggers, 5 gallon buckets, wheel barrows, garbage bags.
