I would like to extend a hearty (though not as hearty as their barbecue) thank you to Q It Up Catering for coming out to Knollwood for our clean up day, they served many, many pounds of food and donated all of the money to the improvement effort. I would also like to thank Steve Dodge over at Vibram Disc Golf for having us host the first ever Vibram Birdie Bash, Menna's Joint fed our 75 hungry golfers and Mike Phillips came up the winner!

Finally, I want to thank every single person that has bought a disc, donated even a penny, picked up a cigarette butt, or done anything else to even remotely help our efforts at Knollwood. Without all of your help, I doubt this park would even still be here, let alone getting a $3,600 facelift this year!

Sign our online petition to show your support for the renovation of Knollwood and the creation of brand new courses in Kalamazoo!

This petition will be shown to the Kalamazoo City Commission at the end of the year and will hopefully lead toward a much bigger professional and amateur disc golf culture in the city!

So I met with the new director of Parks and Recreation with the City of Kalamazoo and we have come to agreements on several issues. First, they will be providing support via trash bags and implements to help keep our garbage cans from being dumped. Next, we have a green light to begin an actual fundraising campaign to provide park improvements and renovations, these improvements will be overseen and managed by the city, however, we will have our say in what improvements are made and we will have an opportunity to participate in their installation, mostly through the grunt work. Another point touched upon was the possibility of changing the layout of Knollwood to move the action away from some of the muddier areas and utilize more of the open space.

Now this is where it gets real, this year, we need to rally every single person that has an interest in making Kalamazoo a disc golf landmark toward this goal. We have been invited to represent the disc golf interest to several groups and entities within the city that make long term decisions. The disc golf community must assemble to show that we are numerous and that we are all interested in the growth of disc golf in this area. What we do now can have an impact on future generations that can include the creation of new, professional level courses, the institution of disc golf education curriculum in different programs, and could turn Kalamazoo into a major hub of professional disc golf.

I have created a new group that I trust will be fundamental to achieving this goal, every one of us, from the two year old with a mini to the 65 year old with a trolley full of discs, will benefit from banding together. We can show this city, this state, and the world that disc golf is a socially and physically healthy activity that can increase morale, create community awareness, and yes, even bring money into local economies.

I will be organizing meetings of this group to go over our goals and aspirations, to inform members of ways to help and create awareness, and to organize representative groups to go into our communities to spread the word of disc golf. This group is not just for people from Kalamazoo, I strongly urge people from other cities, municipalities, and states to come and see what we are doing. I hope to create a model of cooperation that can be used in clubs and cities all over the country.

First, I must thank our sponsors, without whom we would not have had those sweet player packs for everyone! To the innovators and pillars of our sport, Mark Roberts, Larry LaBond, and Joe Gill, we definitely could not have done this without you guys, your contributions are very much appreciated and I hope we can work together in the future. I would like to give special thanks to each and every one of the 11 players that came out in the driving rain, waited out the lightning, and fought with a tenacity only found in the most dedicated of disc golf players. Without you guys, Spinlab would be an afterthought. Well, after some stiff competition, we have a Grand Prix Champion in Wade Sullivan, with Steve Blink coming in at a hard fought second, and Rob Draves in a valiant fight taking up the third place spot. I hope all of our players from yesterday are in good health and have recovered well from the rain and cold, though I'm sure most of you guys are used to Michigan disc golf weather. Once I figure out the best way to post achievements for the match play format, they will go up, it shouldn't be more than a couple of days.

This event concludes the 2012 Spinlab tournament season, it would not have been such a successful year if it weren't for the tenacity of our players, the generosity of our sponsors, and the support of the local disc golf community. I will be making regular trips to Knollwood for the rest of the park season and have plenty of discs left for sale. Metal Flake Katanas and Mambas, Glow CFR Sidewinders and Archons, CFR Teedevils, Blizzard Wraiths, and Star Ontario Rocs are all 15 bucks, while R Pro Rocs are 12, KC Pro Glow Aviars and R Pro Aviars are 10. We also have a good selection of Gateway Putters including the new superglow Magic and Voodoo for $12 that can glow for up to 1 hours on a single charge, and several Wizards of different types for $10.

The place is looking pretty shabby due to the fact that we haven't been able to clean up yet, but I'm sure we can get the place looking amazing in no time at all. See you there!

The K'wood Chiefs will no longer be running tournaments and leagues, from this point forward, after the April Fool's Tourney, we will be focusing entirely on volunteer disc golf course clean up events. This year, the monthly Knollwood cleanup will happen every 2nd Sunday as usual, free food for everyone that helps clean up our park. Also, there will be groups accomplishing specific goals for each cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to bring any tools, wheelbarrows, or food/charcoal when possible.

I am also looking for a group to start regular cleanups at the Oshtemo Disc Golf Course, this course has suffered over the past few years and could use some real love and attention from the patrons. The event will be scheduled as soon as we have a good amount of interest shown, any help will be appreciated and hopefully we can get a regular monthly cleanup to happen just like at Knollwood.

Well, our Grand Prix tournament format was a success, we had eight competitors of varying levels and everybody had a good time. After a nine-hole round of skins type play, our field was cut to Dustin, Micah, Brian V., and Mike Waldron. They played off in an 18 of match play and in an amazing display, Dustin defeated Brian, after a worthy fight and taking out one of the top competitors in the first round, Mike put a lot of pressure on Micah and came through the victor of that battle. The same four played the 18 hole final with the match ups being Dustin Vs. Mike for first and second, and Brian Vs. Micah for third. Brian V. came through in his match up and won third place, while in top form, Dustin (lil' Curly) finished his tournament performance with three wins, defeating Mike and taking home our grand prize.

A decent array of CTP prizes were handed out and I would like to thank Steven Dodge from Vibram for donating prizes and Gateway for helping as well! A special thank you to everyone that played in the tournament, once I figure out the date, I will be opening registration for another Grand Prix event in March, there will be Open, Amateur, and Women's divisions and each field is capped at 16.

They have also donated one of the sweetest disc golf hats ever made for a CTP prize! Due to some unforeseen disagreements, the Monday Random Doubles are no longer affiliated with my Friday BYOP Doubles, tournaments, or the cleanup events, this means that the ace pool will no longer be shared between the nights. As a result, the club will be returning to its original focus which is to keep the park clean, work on getting improvements done and to expand the sport in the Southwest Michigan area. Those interested in helping us clean up glass can show up on Monday around 1:00 pm to help, I will be at hole 8 doing my very best to remove some of the broken glass. Over the next week there will be a small selection of 25 Gateway discs for sale at reasonable prices, so check back soon for the update.

So as of yesterday, we have an ace pool nearing the $100 mark which has brought out some of the best competition so far this year. Our previous Monday Doubles featured a randomly chosen killer team of Anton and Mocha, whom scored an amazing -16 after a single round. There were many baskets and chains hit, but no aces as of yet, so this Friday at our Bring Your Own Partner Doubles round which starts at 6pm, we anticipate another crop of good competitors. We hope to see you there to help make our new Friday nights a success!

First off, I would like to thank everyone for their patience in dealing with the parking and group situations we had last Friday, you all helped everything go relatively smooth. I would also like to congratulate the first through third place teams for showing that even in a worst shot competition, it is possible to get a decent score. I will have information on our next doubles endeavor within the next couple of weeks, I will say that it will be a bring your own partner, best shot event, and it will be a continuation of 2009's Rehab event. My main goal with the Rehab will be to raise enough money to donate either a bulletin board, or a sign to the park. Again, thanks to absolutely everyone involved with the Worst Shot, and I hope to see you all again next year!

Hello everyone,
My name is Corey Nufer, and I am the director of the K'wood Chiefs, a recent addition to the Kalamazoo, MI. disc golfing community. The Chiefs have been assembled in order to raise awareness to the plight of people neglecting our courses, and we have made many strides in that area since our conception. For the past three months we have held one clean up day per month, and have a good relationship with the City of Kalamazoo, and with each of these events, the park gets easier to maintain. As well as cleaning up, we provide free food for both omnivores, and vegans to all volunteers, and I plan to make this a monthly tradition for many years to come.
In addition, I have organized a fundraiser doubles tournament in order to help pay for concrete teepads, signs, and make repairs on existing baskets. New Addiction Tattoos, and Lee's Adventure Sports have both agreed to help sponsor the tourney, and I am currently looking for more sponsors. Thank you for your interest, and if you would like to show your support for our group, or if you would like some help, or advice on how to organize your own clean up days, feel free to contact me anytime.
