A3 as a rule doesn't use this site, the only person I believe who has posted scores here is me. I have no idea how to post ace race results here so how could I post them??? Brooke Plantz may have posted scores here in the past as well?

A3 is not in this business to lose money so yes we made a profit on the event! $60 - $80 profit none of that money went into my pocket at all. I do not know of anybody that would do this kind of work without a way to make a profit for the club. With no Profit we cannot continue to fund our course improvements or fund the DGLO AM event. We volunteers volunteer our time in the desire that the entity A3 makes a profit at any event!

A3's board of directors has approved a reimbursement policy for staffers who volunteer at events, to cover the need for park entry fees. Those fees were deducted or expensed as shown and each event will have such expenses in the future. The deduction was for future workers not just event staff at Ace Race. Each event will absorb similar fees except DGLO and No foolin where the fees will be higher with more staff needed.

These benefits are available to all A3 volunteers who are asked or utilized at A3’s events.
Not just William Gilbert, John Ryan or Mark Piotrowski who worked at the Ace Race.

surely you don't mean a3. a3 has made use of this site to post scores from a number of tournaments including the birthday classic, the gordy matthews memorial, the summer solstice, and dglo.


either way, i would say not taking advantage of this site to post scores is a mistake. i know the players very much appreciate having scores posted on disc golf scene.

As advertised here, on disgolfersr.us, on our site and via emails A3 took $3 from every entry to cover dots and tournament expenses.
with 52 dots being won A3 added 15 dots to the dot pot.
we had 2 used discs left after prizes no value as they are used and can't be resold.
7 people took dots they were not entitled to.
We had cash expenses of $14 who got P2P passes and didn't pay for them
We paid for P2P for 6 people who donated more then 2 dots $12
Staff refreshment $10
Park entry fees for staff $25
approx cost of dots from A3 $120

Additional items paid out $25 gift certificate to dexter pub for largest dot donation

I don't know, just a suggestion to make it run a little bit smoother at the end. I liked how you could 'bribe' your way into a good group.

I first want to apologize for setting off the storm with my comment to get the ace race back to Brown Next year. I did not intend to start a shit storm. That being said EVERYONE should thank Terry and Bill for their efforts to accommodate us as Disc Golfers.

On another note we should not undermine people’s efforts by holding shadow events because some people are not happy with the situation as it is. The first response should not be one of anger or be critical. We should be able to have discussions where all the information is on the table so that we can make the best decision without catering to a few peoples agendas.

No matter what some may think A3 works very hard without any compensation to try to be one of the premier clubs in the state if not the entire country.

So let’s all come to Hudson mills have fun relax and BANG some ACES!!!!!!

I thought that disclosing the details as close as i could from memory talking to Terry might alleviate some doubters.
I would love somebody else to call and see that these numbes were not made up they may not be 100% accurate but i did it from memory.
We had planned 2 events in 2010 at Brown but those will not be taking place there now. will have to go somewhere else. Neither of the events could afford these fees either.
Thanks for your support and sorry that Ace Race cannot return to its roots, at least we are going to keep the lower entry fees, LOL.

Scott, it's not the parks being fussy about MBD in particular, it's their overall rules and regulations and requirements for all of the parks. They have no issues with people "using" the parks, but feel a need to closely manage organized events in parks. For example: I'm going crazy trying to get permission to have a mobile Throw Shop that visits MBD and Bandemer. I mean people already sell from trunks and there is a definite need with the closest store 15 miles away. But frankly don't see any way they're going to let me do it.

My contact for parks planning is Amy Kuras, but she's on vacation and has nothing to do, anyway, with the management of the parks - just planning and developjng new parks and things in parks.

Bill - Thanks for providing the details of all the obstacles that make Mary Beth Doyle less than conducive to any organized event in the near future. Hopefully we can find solutions over time. It's just great to see the information so people understand what the DG organizations are up against and it not just some persons preference of a specific course. I know many are excited to have a course back in play in the location of a Ann Arbor DG landmark that is near and dear to many of us who played there and have fond memorize of the fun and struggles and want to recapture some of that. It's a new course and like the fairways it will take a little while to get it all broken in and figure out how Mary Beth fits into the New/Current Ann Arbor Area Disc Golf Scene.

Thanks for all your work and for sharing the information behind the scene. The Ace race at Hudson is going to be great - It's a great location and for an event it has many advantages over parks like Mary Beth but the bottom line is it's the local DG community - Players and Event coordinators that really make our local events so great - Thanks again for all your efforts, and the countless others behind the scene donating their personal time/efforts to get us to this point and not just dreaming about what can be in the future but making these things a reality - What amazing progress over the years and there has been very noticeable spike in the most last couple - Thanks.

And as far as the restroom facilities is concerned, the city should be responsible for providing that, due to the lack there of. Are they trying to protect their new park, and sub-mediocre course (not your fault Terry), by a clusterfuck of red tape?

Nevertheless Terry, I, along with the DG community appreciate your efforts with trying to cater to our wants and wishes, but this is just outright ridiculous. Let's hold events where we are welcomed and somewhat appreciated.

Well just so everybody knows the Ace Race cannot move to Brown Park so it will have to stay at Hudson Mills.
A3 cannot afford to pay the fees the city requires to make the event legit. nor do we have time to jump through all the hoops the city will require, assuming the city is motivated to push the paperwork through quickly enough.
Minimum fee to use the park for an event is $110 if a ann arbor city resident submits the application, plus an additional fees for every 25 people above 75 people planned, plus $150 porta potty fee. Additionally you have to supply proof of insurance and we are not willing to pay for that either. We are not insured to run events at Brown Park.
Additionally we would have to supply a parking plan that is a big joke there is what 10 spots in the park.
I forget what other problems or issues would have to be resolved to make it happen. If Terry feels like filling any holes i might have missed in the fees i will leave that to him.
A3 will not try to be sneaky and go into a city park and run an event under the radar. The risks are to great. Not just in fines but in our relations with the city.
So we will go back to Hudson as originally planned and run our Ace Race, sorry for the short lived dream there everybody.
With these fees and issues i don't see it being feasable to legally run an event at Brown park.
Oh and if anybody thinks i am making any of this up please do feel free to contact the city and discuss these things with them.

A3 will hold its Ace Race at Hudson Mills, as originally planned. we will how ever keep the Entry fees at the adjusted $15, this will significantly reduce A3's donation to the Dot Prizes. It will also reduce the Ace Race Ace Pool but that is to be expected with lower entry fees.

Well, it turns out that to hold this at MBD we would need to complete a competitive event application. That requires a parking plan, a restroom facilities plan (aka portable toilet rental), a minimum fee of $110 (maybe more), and proof of liability insurance on the order of $500k. We missed the deadline to file for such an event, 60 days prior to it, but they are willing to work with us on that. However, if we filed an application today it would be Monday or Tuesday before we find out if we are approved. And we can't even file the application until we can prove we have the insurance.

The club can't afford all of those fees and I don't have the time to arrange the portable toilet and the insurance - which might be time wasted anyway, if we didn't get approved. So, my guess is that the club will stick with the Hudson Mills location for this year.

It sure would be nice if people got behind this and supported the Ace Race, rather than try to undermine it.

I highly recommend NOT spreading the word about the change until we find out tomorrow whether we can get permission quickly, or not. Worst case scenario in my head right now: I stop by tomorrow, fill out a form, write a check, and then they tell me they'll let me know "some time next week." Then on Wednesday they say "No," and it's really too late to get the word out.

I won't know for certain until I talk to the city folks. Once I DO talk to them, if they do NOT approve it (Which they won't if they think about parking - I do not plan to mention that aspect to them.) then we will definitely get busted if we do it illegally. Nice. And, of course, with the lowered entry fee any fees have to come out of the pot, and dot prizes have to go back to purely donated discs. No doubt people will complain about THAT. Like I said. Nice. Complaining leads to . . . more complaining.
