Ok the Winter season has wrapped up and so Mother Nature please help us out - The Summer league has started and we would welcome some great spring weather....

So we have some congratulations/accolades to pass along as well as some awards for the DGLA Player members.

First a big thanks for all who participated, who played leagues throughout Michigan during the Winter season and help grow this great sport, contributed to their club and local, and not so local, leagues and those who helped improve the wonderful courses we have throughout our great Disc Golf state. And also to all the Club and league coordinators who make getting out and playing/competing with new and old friends so much fun week after week – THANKS!!!

Many battled the Michigan conditions, actually 475 players, 3,687 rounds and a total of 64,209 points awarded. In the end, with the final posted rounds tallied, here are the top 20 players of the 475 for Winter leagues. Congrats for all your hard work and well played rounds!

Sam smith our last year Winter Champion wrapped up this year again at the top of the overall leaderboard in third place with 792 points overall. Jason Kirkaldy playing many leagues and running Flip Side Doubles managed to accumulate 903 points in 47 rounds. Not to be out done, with the same 47 rounds Dale "Llama" Wrobel amassed an amazing 1001 points to take the top spot on the overall leaderboard to be crowned the 2013 Michigan Winter Disc Golf League Champion - Congrats Dale

MiCPS-Summer 2013 Season award preview

Thirty DGLA Player already in the Summer season, those who signed up before January 15th got both seasons for the same price. For each of these 30 players $5 has been added into the Summer season award fund. For each new DGLA player member for the summer season $15 of the Player fee is added. So we are at $150 and growing.

Summer (7) - Based on the stats for the Summer 2013 season those players who are DGLA Player level members and who have not already won a berth:

(1) Top Female
(1) Most highlighted leagues of the Week (HLW) played.

So February stats are locked and I wanted to post a summary real quick as we wind down the last week of the DGLA Michigan Cooperative Point Series Winter 2012/13 season.

In January Dale "Llama" Wrobel played the most rounds with 14 rounds played followed by 3 players who managed to get to 13 rounds, 4 with 12 rounds each. In February Jon Kind hit the course for the most league rounds with 13 rounds recorded. Three players got in 12 rounds, 6 got 11 rounds in and 4 got in 10.

Now in January Jamie Mosier got out to the most leagues, playing over 8 different leagues in the month. Three players got to 6 different leagues in the month and they are all in the top of this leaderboard again in February but with slightly lower numbers.


Jamie Mosier is once again at the top of this leaderboard but this time he shares the spot with John McClenahan, Jason Kirkaldy, Ben Ciccarelli. Nice travel guys. Seven got to 4 different leagues and 21 players made it to 3 different leagues in the month of February.

Now it great to get out and play, especially in winter when it is so easy to get the winter blaaaas - cabin fever and the grey sky blues. If the weather does not make it dangerous and you have the opportunity to travel to other courses and leagues it helps your game playing different courses and you get to chill with that many more great players and see how different leagues or clubs run their leagues. Now it's even better win you WIN and depending on the format of league there is only 1 or 2 winners. Besides all that money (hey it's growing) there is all the glory of being at the top of the leaderboard. Let's give out a bit more glory to the top winners.

Now back in January the big winners were Jimmy Bates with 7, Dale "Llama" Wrobel & Jason Kirkaldy with 6 each.

This month the top was only 5 win in the month of February but Jason Kirkaldy stayed at the top of the leaderboard with those 5 wins, followed by Daemon Stahlin, Matt "The Spider" Swider & Jim Daniels each with 4 win to their name in February.

Now these players got out and played a bunch of round, hit several leagues, won a few rounds but ultimately the metric used for determining the best Disc Golf League players in Michigan for the winter will be Points.

280 That's a lot of points. The totals for the month of February dropped a bit. In 5th place was Daemon Stahlin 236 pts in 11 rounds. Jim Daniels took the 4th spot with 252 pts in 10 rounds. in 3rd with 256 pts in 11 rounds is Jason Kirkaldy. And finally at the top of the February Points leaderboard we have a tie - YES Ben Ciccarelli and samuel smith both playing 12 rounds, both managed to amass 268 points each. Way to play Ben and Sam.

Seven new players participated this week which is fantastic given the conditions, some tournaments resulting in a slight reduction in overall participation this last week of 148 Players. Our Average weekly participation is at 147.4 so it was consistent just down from last week and further down from the Max in week 9 of 186 players - playing leagues throughout Michigan in the MiCPS. So Welcome to the MiCPS-W 2013 for our 7 new players. With a 148 players playing we racked up another 199 rounds of league play this week.

So who accumulated the most points this week?

Well double points has an obvious positive impact for those who took on the challenge. With 148 total players playing in week 11 the Average points accumulated was 29.77, down from last week 2.29pt. If we look at the Weekly Points leaderboard we see from the top 10 points winners they played an average of 2.8 rounds during the week and that helped them earn 72.9 points on average.

Starting with the new guy on the leaderboard Kyle Jansen van Galen, who played two rounds for 67 points; Won 1st place in both rounds, Black & White Season 3 Random Doubles for double points and Black & White Season 3 Singles. Welcome Kyle and great shooting.
Adam Schneider also had two rounds in the week with a 1st place double points round at 12:00 Saturday Dubbs at Willow and more double points at Night Moose Winter League 2012-2013
Three players amassed 72 points for the week:
Gabe Cadorin racked up 72 points at the same two leagues.

Ben Ciccarelli with a 1st place at Huron Valley PDGA Sanctioned Winter League for 46 points. He also had a 1st place at glow with double points but his 5th place at Ypsi Dubs 2012/13 Winter League -={Church}=- Sundays got him even more points.
John McClenahan had 4 rounds, dropped a 1st place at Glowington and kept a 2nd place at Freaky Friday Skins and 5th place at Huron Valley PDGA Sanctioned Winter League.
Craig Przytulski played three rounds, grabbed 38 points for a 1st place win at Club Kensington 2012-2013 Winter Dubs and with double points at Lacey Inn Thursday Singles grabbed another 36.

Kurt Umbarger also played three rounds, two 1st place finishes - NICE! 44 points from Night Moose Winter League 2012-2013 and 32 for a 3rd place finish at 12:00 Saturday Dubbs at Willow

Ben Calhoun racked up the largest accumulation of points this week, only getting out one day but two rounds. 56 points for taking first at Ypsi Dubs 2012/13 Winter League -={Church}=- Sundays, along with a 5th at Night Moose Winter League 2012-2013 of 24 - both rounds were double points and for Ben's effort in two very cold rounds he racked up 80 points - Nice Ben

The top 20 in overall points:

Since the last report there have been some movement in the top ten mainly due to a few of these players not getting in as many rounds as in the past. Two players only got in 1 round each. Ben Ciccarelli who played three rounds, jumped 3 places to 11th on the overall leaderboard. Craig Przytulski clibmed to #8, jumping 2 spots with his three rounds. Mike Straford was one of the big movers this week making it up to 7th place taking full advantage of his four rounds. The other player with 4 rounds and with a Winter Ace to help amass 130 points since my last post and moving him to third place is samuel smith.

Now there is a 77 point spread between 3rd and 2nd - Jason Kirkaldy and then 87 points between 2nd and Dale "Llama" Wrobel at 1st with 712 points. Those two have been in those spots for many a week but the point gap is achievable especially if anyone misses a few rounds or has a bad winter day... Five weeks to go and the numbers should start increasing as the Summer place start to come out of winter hibernation for the last few weeks....

This just came to my attention and is well worth a few minutes to fill out this online survey to help the planning commission for the Ypsilanti area hear from the people who live and play in the Ypsi area.

Note the word is spreading from Park staff and commissioners about the impact to attendance and the offering of a park if they incorporate Disc Golf courses. The more this word spreads the more courses we all have to enjoy and the more people who can easily access courses the faster the growth.

I just filled out the survey and it took me less than 4 minutes.

You do not need to be a resident to provide feedback. They already have Disc Golf listed as an consideration for future activities. Please provide feedback if you value Disc Golf in Michigan.

Eighteen new players participated this week which is fantastic that during the middle of this Michigan Winter Disc Golf League season we would have new players join in the fun that have not played a round since this season started. Welcome to the MiCPS-W 2013.

With a 152 players playing we racked up another 298 rounds of league play this week. I wish I had the Ball golf stats to track against but I think in Michigan Disc Golf was KING – again.

Well with more double points awarded that has an obvious positive impact for those who took on the challenge. With 152 total players playing in week 10 the Average points accumulated was 32.06, up from last week 11.37pt. If we look at the Weekly Points leaderboard we see from the top 10 points winners that they averaged about 3 rounds during the week and that helped them earn 93 points on average. Jon Kind and Jimmy Bates both Won 1st place in all their rounds, Jon taking 1st in three different leagues. Given that these Winter warriors won during double points in each of those rounds it meant it was a Points Billiard for these two guys this week and why Jon Kind was at the top of this leaderboard in the #2 position. All the others took advantage of the Double Points to move further up the leaderboard and several had 1st place finishes. You don’t have to take first place each time to grab a bunch of points at be amongst the elite point gainers of the week. Phil Common battled the elements and many hungry players in two rounds with in which he took 2nd and a 3rd place finish to rack up 76 points – way to battle and make the top ten list this week Phil. Now the top position with 114 points this week, with only two rounds, both at Kensington Metro Park – Black Locust, with only one being double points but had the added excitement of a Winter Ace.

Ace pools is up $110.”….

So who accumulated the most points this week?
Well from the weekly Points leaderboard we see that 9 players gained on the leader Dale "Llama" Wrobel but Dale managed to stay in the top ten of top points for the week with 62 earned points. The other thing that jumped out at me were that there were two players in the top ten who had only 1 round but boo-koo points. Mark Ellis with one round managed to collect 68 points with the help of a nice Winter Ace, as well as Evan McIntyre who leveraged the Ace to secure 1st place and collecting 72 points with only one HOT round.

Daemon Stahlin was able to rack up 74 points in three rounds with two 2nd place and a 1st place finish.

Ben Calhoun leveraged a larger turn out as several groups converged for a larger than normal league round at Ypsi Dubs and took 1st there and at1st at his Night Moose round to amass 78 points the old fashion way in just two rounds:

Now for the Month of January here are the latest changes at the top of the overall leaderboard:

Jerry "Chilly" Chilson & samuel smith stay neck and neck but manage to both climb 3 places to be tied for 10th place. Mike Stratford climbs 1 spot to number 9. Craig Przytulski only got in one round in the posted data so he dropped 5 places to 8th place. Daemon Stahlin jumps 2 places to 7th. Ben Calhoun maintains his 6th place spot. Jamie Mosier makes the largest jump based on some old rounds being posted and a great week and moves from 20th to 5th place. Way to jump up the leaderboard Jamie. This is why we encourage league to post data on time so there are no surprises. jon kind move up a spot to 4th and George Beno also moves up one spot to the 3rd position. Jason Kirkaldy holds on at #2 but gains 5 points on Dale "Llama" Wrobel who maintains his spot at the very top of the leaderboard.
We expect a few more double points rounds for temps at or below 15 degrees w/ wind chill. Make sure you post in the talk section if you think your round should get double points. Note in the Schedule rounds noted as Double Points will show up in Green highlight and indicate "Double points!" Those Winter Aces are also helping players make some moves on the leaderboard.

Now we just started to do these weekly and monthly stats summaries in hopes to share who is doing what, where and how. Revealing How players are achieving their position at the top of the leaderboards and setting themselves a part as the top disc golf leagues players in the state of Michigan. While also giving the leagues and players more recognition for their achievements. And as always a big thanks to all the league coordinators who make leagues fun and exciting and more accessible to more players than ever before and all those players who lend a hand from time to time - THANKS!

The other question I'm always interested in is how fast and in what ways are Disc Golf Leagues growing.

For a quick comparison of 2012 to 2013 we have these stats to get a feel for growth just in Michigan:

2012 MiCPS-Winter we had 15 leagues and over the whole season we had 349 players compete in those leagues.

In 2013 we have 37 leagues - more than double the number and at the half way point we already have 405 players who have participated. I love those stats trends!!!

When I did a quick check of week 8 for both season - the first thing I notice was that last year we had no Weekly and Monthly leaderboards - these are new features that DGLA brainstormed and Disc Golf Scene (Pete) made a reality - Continued growth and improvement - THANKS!!! Pete - We are lov'in the Disc Golf Scene...

Now week 8 last year had 11 leagues playing that week and this year we had 17.

Let's look at more of the MiCPS-Winter Week 8 (January 6-12, 2013) stats:

For week 8 the max rounds played by a single player was 4 rounds and that was achieved by 6 players. 9 players got in 3 rounds and 23 shot in 2 rounds and 134 players got in at least 1 league round for the week. 171 players in all - playing 227 rounds of disc golf. Way to get out and enjoy the week.

Points Stats:

The Average Points earned per player this week 20.69, only increased 1.0634 points over last week, but the Max point total was increased by 26 points by Craig Przytulski earning 84 points in 2 rounds. One round at Lacey Inn Thursday Singles and the second at Club Kensington 2012-2013 Winter Dubs in which he hit hole 9 for a 50 point Winter Ace - Nice Shot!!! Craig. Now it's great to hit an Ace - I'd like to run some stats on Aces, how many, probability per hole ect. but what do you think the probability is that two players hit an Ace on the same hole during a given round? How about on the same card? Getting smaller. And they are brothers???? I can't do the math that quick but I suspect I don't have enough zeros to follow the decimal point - it's that low- but if you look at the leaderboard and notice that #2 on the weekly Points leaderboard is Andrew Przytulski with 80 points and only 1 round. I had to check into this one and luckily Jeff Kaluk who runs Club Kensington 2012-2013 Winter Dubs had this post in the talk section to confirm that this actually occurred:

The MiCPS-Winter 2013 DGLA Player's leaderboard is lock for the season. There are 29 players competing for MDGO State Championships Berths and awards based on their overall performance as compared to the other DGLA players.

Wow! This is great - More than Summer 2012 and this means that Summer 2013 is going to start with 29 players since these players get both Winter and Summer season, two seasons for shots at berths and prizes - the advantage of upgrading during the colder winter season.

Also thanks to several others who just signed up as DGLA members but did not yet upgrade to a player level. Your support is very much appreciated by all the other DGLA members and staff - Way to show your support for this effort to grow and improve disc golf leagues - THANKS!!!!

Well - kind of crazy weather for January disc golf in Michigan but it's great to thaw out a bit before we get more of those Double Point Cold rounds before Spring returns our lush courses and we get to shed multiple layers ;-)

Thaw is the period when the snow and ice melt, at the end of the winter, in cold climates. A special thaw, outside normal season, is January thaw.

I know of a few more local players that will be upgrading this Sunday so it looks like we will be playing for over $200 extra $ while we play our normal winter leagues and for some MDGO State Championship berths. It also means that the Summer season will start with over 20 Player level so it should be a great summer season as well.

Well week 7 stats were impacted by the Holidays - some got to play more and others had to eat to much and spend time with relatives and others had to work over time especially if your in the retail bussines.

Reminder only 6 days left to upgrade to Player

Still five players managed to get out and play three league rounds during week 7; Dec 30th to Jan 5th. One managed to use that to his advantage and secured the Top Point Getter position - Jerry "Chilly" Chilson. Chilly played:

2) Flip Side Doubles @ Independence Lake County Park, Chuck D. Memorial Course

Now Chilly had to share that Top Point Getter status with Daemon Stahlin who only had two rounds that week but one was at Flip Side Doubles in which he endured the colder temps to get Double points and prevent Chilly from extending his lead but gain on a few others.... Nice!!!!

Chilly is currently at 10th overall and Daemon is now at 11th and both are on the move toward the top of the leaderboard. Good luck guys.

Now for the month of January the leader of three of the four stat; Most Points (82), Most Rounds (4)& Most Leagues played (4) is none other than Mr. Jerry "Chilly" Chilson.

DGLA Player members for Winter is now at 15 players - Thanks to jon kind, Adam Schneider, Jim Jean & Scott Martinelli, our most recent additions. So as of now that means there is $150 for MiCPS-Winter payouts - $10 from each Player Member. $5 from each Player Member goes into the MiCPS-Summer payout pool along with $15 from each Player member who upgrade after Jan 15th and are competing in the Summer season only as a Player level member . I know of several more players who plan on registering before next Tuesday - Jan 15th the deadline for Winter Player members. A few had asked how the payouts would be determined with some players in both Winter and Summer seasons and many more that will only play in the bigger Summer season. Both cost $30. Both contribute to the DGLA Mi Course Improvement Grant fund which they get to vote on how it's used. Both get a MiCPS 2013 Putter and DGLA Glow mini. Both have a chance at winning MDGO 2013 Michigan Disc Golf Championships berths and awards based on their standing on the DGLA Player member leaderboard but those who upgrade by Jan 15th get both seasons; two shots at berths and more awards for the same $30.

Also someone asked why a deadline for Player level members - We know that many need to see this Player level thing in action before they shell out hard earned money. Ok it's only $30 - less than most tournaments, last all year, you get a player pack and help Mi Disc Golf courses, but it's your hard earned money. At the same time for those who are really worried about competing for the berths or awards we want to make sure that there are no surprises at the very end. You can see the player list through the first two months and then decide to opt in or not and then everyone continues to competes and have a blast for the next two months and then after March 16th all the Players get an additional Disc Golf Christmas and a few get their berth secured for States ;-)

I hope that helps explain how the money is split and is awarded as well as why a deadline. OK the first week of the New Year has come to and end and the weekly stats leaderboards will be official after tomorrow when it locks. The monthly and weekly leader boards lock three days after their end date. If leagues post results after that they show up in the main leaderboard for overall standing but not in the Monthly and Weekly stats if posted after it locked.

At least one league has received Double points for playing a round at 15 degrees or cooler (Flip Side Doubles Thursday, January 3rd @ 2:30pm Independence Lake County Park Whitmore Lake, MI.)

If you believe your league should get double points for a round post in the Talk section with league Name, Date, Time.

A quick update, DGLA membership is now at 86 total members - only 14 spots left to be a Founding Members, first 100 members.

I have a few weekly and month stats for you but first a reminder of a critical deadline for the MiCPS Winter. Jan 15th is the last day for players to upgrade to Player level and compete for the Berths and payouts based on your standing. There are only 8 Player level members currently competing for the berths for the MDGO Michigan Disc Golf Championship berths and payouts. Those Winter players are also automatically included in the Summer Point Series for more chances at earning berths and payouts.

So how best to get to the top of the leaderboard - let's look at some of the stats. Since only your best two rounds per week count it really helps to at least play two rounds a week. With smaller league size during the winter most winners are only getting about 22 points on average. Winter Aces are worth 50 points so that is the largest point gain for a single round - so definitely try and get a few Aces ;-) Now when the temp dips down below 15 degrees everyone playing gets double points so that can help you advance quickly as well. The more you play the high the probability to accrue the most points....

Let's see who did just that in the month of December:

who hit the most number of leagues during December - that would be a two way tie between Josh "J Bird" Frisinger & Jason Kirkaldy who both played 5 different leagues throughout the month of December based on currently posted scores.

But who won the most league rounds.... That achievement was obtained by Daemon Stahlin with 4 league wins in the month followed by Sam Mrdeza & Rich Mcpherson with 3 each.

Now to increase your potential for max points getting in as many rounds as possible can help in many ways and even if you don't get the most points right away all that play is sure to help improve your game and ability to play in almost any condition. Gabe Cadorian hold the title for most rounds played in December with 11 rounds amassing 134 points. He was closely followed by 4 others with 10 rounds each. Jason Kirkaldy with 175 pts, Mike Stratford with 164 pts, Sam Smith with 114 pts and Josh "J Bird" Frisinger with 102 pts. Nice month guys.


Now you don't have to play that many rounds to get the most points. Take Dalk "Llama" Wrobel he played 8 rounds, with his biggest points per round coming from a third place finish at Club Kensington 2012-2013 Winter Dubs for 34 pts Dec 2nd. Now it helped a lot that he also hit an Ace at glowington league Dec 19th, Hole 15 at Kennsington for 50 Points. Also the number two point gatherer for December was George Beno with 176 pts in only 7 rounds (that's less than two a week) with 2 first places, 2 second, 2 forth and a ninth place finish - consistency paid off on that point total.


Now we may be missing a few of your rounds as these Weekly and monthly stats lock three days after the last day of the period and some leagues need a bit longer to post their scores - sorry but your points and achievements will be reflected in the overall leaderboard.

Things are looking good for an epic year in disc golf. Thanks to the MDGO including Todd White and Keith Aten for planning what is sure to be the best year yet in tournament disc golf.

Well here are some highlights from the Weekly and the ongoing Monthly leaderboards for December.

Note the weekly and monthly leaderboards lock after three days from the end of the reporting period. These leader boards only show those scores/rounds posted by the lock date. Currently with 37 participating leagues there are 322 total players playing leagues and competing across the state of Michigan this winter.

There are now 7 DGLA Player members competing for berths and payouts. You have until January 15th to become a DGLA Player member for the Winter season before it's locked. MiCPS-Winter ends March 16th 2013:

The second week of December we had more players playing more rounds with six players getting in 3 rounds and twenty one players getting in 2 rounds. The top point getters for the week were:

“Am I reading correctly that we won’t get a berth for top spots in winter MiCPS unless we pay for the DGLA Player membership?
I’m sure that will help the DGLA memberships specifically but what about the MAJORITY of people that choose not to be a member, what will those people get for top spots?”

I’m going to answer the questions in reverse order.
There are two categories of players in the MiCPS, FREE and DGLA Player Members. The FREE players break down into two sub-categories, Free Non-DGLA members and Free DGLA members who decide not to upgrade to DGLA Player members status. All players are on the main leaderboard and are competing for the title 2013 Michigan Disc Golf League Champion Winter or Summer season.

For the no cost players who have profiles on Disc Golf Scene and play in participating leagues, not only are their league rounds posted, their stats track for that league, their awards and accomplishments posted on their profile and in the News for their connected “Friends” to see what they are up to and facilitate more interaction and more excitement focused around Disc Golf, as a FREE participant in the MiCPS this all is happens on a Statewide basis as well. This has the advantages of highlighting players throughout the state if for only one round or for a hot week or great monthly performances and ultimately for continued great performance for the season. The biggest and most lasting impact is that the players who consistently perform well raise to the top of the leaderboard. How? Well their stats are there for all to see. How many leagues rounds do they play? Do they play the same league or do they play several leagues? How often do they win? Did they hit an Ace or two during the season? All those details are captured and calculated automatically. The stats are easily visible to beginners and veterans, all get to compare themselves to others players like themselves, or at the level they aspire to reach, whether you’re a new player or a Pro in your twentieth year of competition, play once a week or four times a week there are others you can compare yourself to throughout the state…. When you watch your favorite sport on TV most of the commentary is related to player’s stats, comparing how they are doing this year over the last years or against other players. These stats are what help to differentiate the players and to elevate performers to new heights which may translate in Fan Base, Compensation or New Opportunities. Most people like to see what others are doing and most like it when others know when they have improved or achieved. Now in most competitions the premiere achievement and award is to determine which competitor is the best out of all the many competitors. In the case of the MiCPS, DGLA answers the question Who really is the top Disc Golf League player in the state? DGLA is happy to provide a framework to involve as many leagues as possible with rules that are fair and balance many factors from size of leagues, number of league rounds per week, among others and do not burden league coordinators with additional work, effort or cost. Players do not need to pay anything to be involved and yet they get all the excitement and stats. DGLA in cooperation with MDGO is proud to be able to crowned Michigan Disc Golf League Champion.

“…what about the MAJORITY of people that choose not to be a member…”
We know it takes a while for players to understand what this is all about. Some don’t like to join organizations and some don’t go online often but we know that if we can get the players together it will help the sport grow; it will help exchange ideas of what works and what does not, it will help bring new ideas to reality, it will help increase the # of courses and improve existing courses, it will help clubs start, and improve, it will help bring more attention to the sport and events, it will bring more sponsors. Leagues players represent more players than just Tournament players. The potential is great to show the world that this Sport is big and getting bigger and there are fun and competitive options for everyone, at every level.
Just by becoming a free DGLA member and securing your life time DGLA membership, the increase in number helps in this mission. You can get involved or just keep enjoying playing disc golf and know you are helping the Sport grow.

MDGO Berths cost the leagues or clubs money and so they have to be paid for somehow – Yup this is a no brainer and so all events that I’m aware of the players have to pay some type or entry fee to be eligible to compete for the berths and cover the costs of the berth and event. But we offer even more….. For $30, less than most tournament you get to compete all season long, heck two season if you sign up during the Winter season before January 15th, you get a shot at more berths than any tournament offers, player pack, contribution to the DGLA Course Improvement grant program and payouts……..

Payout – yes for Summer 2012 we had 23 Player members. $345 was up for grabs and every one of the Player members got some level of payout. DGLA made no money off of this – we are a Non-profit organization, with no money paid to any director or staff, it all goes to improving Disc Golf. Our 2012 accounting will be posted shortly for all to view on the DiscGolfLeagueAssociation.org website.

What is the potential for payouts – So with $15 per Player member fee going toward payouts let's look at the potential:

For the first season we had 38 leagues and 734 players overall players, we had 23 player members. That meant there was $345 up for grabs as well as berths for those 23 player members. Now the number of players is continuously growing but we’ll use these numbers for example.
If we had one third of the players as DGLA Player members we would be playing for $3,303.00 and just image if we had all 734 players and we were playing for over $11,000.00. And that is with no additional sponsorship which we hope to be adding to the incentives soon. The potential is great and growing. That would also represent almost $3700 toward Michigan Course improvements that the members get to decide where that money is used within the state of Michigan. Not bad for less than the average tournament registration fee.

Currently we have 37 leagues in the Winter MiCPS with 283 players so far, with only 5 Player members competing for the MDGO state Disc Golf Championship berths. They will be competing for 3 to 4 berths, with one going to the top women and the rest based on final standing on the Player Member's leaderboard.

And these Player Members are also eligible for the Summer MiCPS season and the remaining 6 to 7 berths and bigger payouts based on a bigger Summer season turnout normally. Since the Summer season ends a month before the MDGO State Championships and many of the top players will already have secured their berths from the Winter season and other tournaments it means there is a high probability that DGLA Player Members will earn a berth if they desire to go and compete at the MDGO Michigan Disc Golf Championships.

DGLA currently has 78 total members so there are 22 more spots to be consider a founding member (first 100 members) of DGLA, and securing your lifetime membership number. We are about to take the Cooperative Point Series to other states to begin building a nationwide awareness of Disc Golf League Association and building our representation of the Disc Golf League player. Add to the visibility of who is doing what throughout the country and one day the world. With your input and involvement this could be the largest group of Disc Golf players ever with the greatest potential for improving the sport for all level of players. We hope to build programs and improve the sport together and look forward to seeing everyone at a league someplace in the world, often.

Well we are off to a great start and some great weather. No Double points rounds yet for being 15 degrees or lower during a round. I'll provide some more stats shortly but I wanted to make a quick post with some commonly ask questions:

How can I join the MiCPS-w 2013?

All you have to do is play a league round at any of the participating leagues between Nov 18th and March 16th 2013 and have a profile on Disc Golf Scene - the rest is auto-magical. Goal should be to get at least two rounds a week as your best two rounds are used for point accrual each week; Sunday - Saturday.

How much does it cost?

No cost to be part of the MiCPS-W but each league may have their own fees to play in their league - check each league's page here on Disc Golf Scene for details and schedules. But no additional fees to be included in the MiCPS-W.

What do I get for my FREE participation in the MiCPS-W?

It means something different to everyone. You are included in the largest statewide disc golf event, which connects players, promote play and the exchange of information about leagues along with bragging rights. We will crown the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion for Winter and Summer.
Hit an Ace or Win a league round, play the most rounds or get the most points in a week or month and hundreds of disc golf players throughout the state know about it instantly.

If you like having "skin in the game", like payouts or helping the sport and courses improve becoming a DGLA Player members.

How do I become a DGLA Player member?
