I got a hold of Nate Sexton and he was quick with a reply to the questions I sent him. Nate Sexton has a current PDGA rating of 1030 and he is currently ranked 10th in the world, Nate has 78 PDGA sanctioned wins. Nate is a great example in person or as a professional disc golfer.

Question: Brandon Goldner asks what is your pre-shot routine?
Answer: My pre shot routine is picking my specific aim point, walking to the front of the tee and kicking off any debris, perhaps a disc flip or two, then it is showtime!

Question: Rick Saffeels asks how do you adjust quickly to new discs if you lose one?
Answer: Adjusting to new discs is easy because they are almost always a mold I already throw often. Having a new one usually just means it is more overstable, this might make me throw it in slightly different situations.

Question: Ira Burgess What is one thing, besides their bag and discs, that if you left home without it, it would affect their round?
Answer: Water and snacks would be #1! Towels, nail clippers, sandpaper block, sunscreen. I use all of those things at most tournaments.

Yes, that is a fact. Due to a miscue with our original provider of suds, we were left without magic liquid for our event. Two Kilts Brewing in Sherwood stepped up after hearing about our disc golf project and our Brew at the Poo fundraising event. The owners flat out donated what we needed to keep you responsible drinkers refreshed. The laws says that we can't charge for it without a permit, so we are forced to give it away.

We will be happy to take donations to the project, but we can't charge for the beer. We'll have multiple wonderful styles of their award winning beer.

Pass the word!! They are willing to sell me more at a good price if demand is eminent. We are happy to take sign-ups on Saturday, but let me know that you are planning to show. I need to make sure we have enough suds to responsibly stay hydrated. 21 and over to enjoy samples.

So we are talking free beer (while supplies last) and a free gourmet dog from Don Wetmore's traveling sausage circus. Good luck finding a better deal.

PacWest has submitted a proposal for a grant to improve Keizer Rapids DGC.

The proposal incudes:

1. Remove invasive plants (Blackberries, Scotchbroom, and Poison Oak)
2. Move and install new tee signs
3. Build two new Kiosks at pull outs by Hole 5 and Hole 6
4. Back fill existing tee pads.
5. Build new trails for safety of other park users.
6. Install alternate pin positions on a few holes (dependent on Parks Staff approval of locations)

It felt good to get out and Do Work at Wheatland Disc Golf Course today. It was a chainsaw day. Dove head and shoulders right into the poison oak with a chainsaw and cut out a nice inside lane of Hole 16. We cut out a few filbert trees next to tee pads also. Mike stuck around and mowed fareways. I will work on printing new temp tee signs as well as the course map. Wheatland DGC should be playing pretty nice this summer... Hard to believe we only opened it up 9 months ago.

Opening of Wheatland DGC at Willamette State Park

Assisted: Friends of Champoeg DG in the redesign and installation of concrete tee pads at Champoeg State Park.

Assisted: Willamette Disc Golf Club with the installation of tee pads at Adair DGC Corvallis (Actually Nov 2013 but its close enough)

We will have run 12 tournaments and 2 weekly leagues by the end of 2014 (10 successful events to date)

We want to take this time to thank everyone who has giving through blood and sweat, and also financially to the growth and improvement of our disc golf addiction we call Disc Golf. So many volunteers have stepped up and toiled in the rain, mud and thorns with PacWest DG to improve our local disc golf courses, CHEERS to the 1%ers that do work!

2015 IS LOOKING TO BE A GREAT YEAR! And we are kicking it off with a bang.

We are working on a fun Foursome best shot scramble help at the new 18 hole Champoeg Oak Grove DGC layout and the new Wheatland DGC. We wanted to make it as cheap registration as possible and also provide a great players pack so everyone leaves with something. Scrip payouts will be heavy to at the top end and not played out so deep. We are attempting to maintain an amateur only event and TD's reserve the right to reject any registered player that does not meet the amateur status. We would like to thank Legacy Discs for their support of this amateur event by providing their limited special Legend plastic for the players pack. First come first serve to choose from Rival, Mongoose, Garage, & Ghost molds. We are limiting registration to 72 players.

Thank you rain! The rain today will allow us to get more mowing and work done without fire danger! We ordered Walk Out Signs and should be here by the end of the July. We hope to have those installed by early August. The State Parks ordered a $1600.00 Kiosk (we were told it was BIG). The Kiosk should be installed by the end of August. We are hoping to have accurate hole lengths soon and the Tee Signs could go in August also (we hope). The State Park will be installing a net to protect the Park Host Site due to people throwing into and playing from the host site which is out of play and considered out of bounds.

Baskets are going to be pulled at Wheatland DGC June 26th Thursday afternoon. They will be replaced on or before July 12th for an annual Civil War Reenactment.

Our goal in this down time will be getting a tighter cut on the grass since this first cut was from 4ft tall grass. Cleaning up rough on Holes 2, 4, 5, and 6. We hope to have OB lines marked out on the RIGHT side of holes 4 & 5 and LEFT side of hole 7's fairway. We are limited on the clearing of those rough areas, so consider lost discs in those areas gone as if it were water. Also, we will be setting posts for tee signs and a kiosk. Actual signs may not be installed until late July?.... Spot spraying of poison oak was started on Monday with a hot mix and will continue throughout the summer (it is much easier to eradicate PO after it has been mowed with the brush hog, it also reduces the amount of herbicide used in natural areas.).

It means PacWest DGA can provide tax deductable receipts for cash donations, and donations of goods & services for the further growth of the sport of disc golf. This will allow us to expand PacWest’s mission of improvements of disc golf facilities by providing the infrastructure for the sport to grow, for example, through the support of new disc golf course development and improvements to existing disc golf courses. To support educational programs that promotes awareness of the sport of disc golf. Finally, PacWest DGA promotes events that foster the growth of the sport that reflects a positive family friendly spirit of disc golf and aids in the proper growth of the sport, development, and professional presentation to the general public.

PacWest is really excited and humbled to be able to assist The Friends of Champoeg Disc Golf on an improvement project of the existing Champoeg Disc Golf Course at Champoeg State Park, Newberg Oregon. The new proposed course design adds to existing property used by the present course layout, the new course design provides Champoeg Disc Golf Course an 18 Hole, Par 58 disc golf course.

Currently, we are waiting for final approval from Oregon State Parks for the new course design.

Champoeg Disc Golf Course was one of the first disc golf courses to be installed in Oregon in 1982. With support from the disc golf community, community groups, and local businesses we will redesign the current course layout, replace all 18 baskets, install 18 concrete tee pads, install all new signage and build a larger course kiosk. PacWest Disc Golf has pledged $5000 to see these improvements of Champoeg Disc Golf Course come to fruition. We hope other Oregon groups and organizations will join with us by supporting this project financially. Champoeg Disc Golf Course is an amazing piece of Oregon’s disc golf history; we hope to honor that history through these improvements to this historical landmark.

We concur with his concerns, and we will review these basic changes with the three Oregon Pro Disc Golfers that we have assembled to help in the final draft of the Wheatland DGC design.

Wheatland DGC Logo. The Parks Supervisor accepted our initial draft of the Wheatland DGC logo for Tee Signs and Basket Signs (He actually got pretty excited about the project after seeing the logo, I think it sparked his vision for the potential of this course)

Funding (Most importantly). The Parks Supervisor committed to buy 17 baskets per his annual budget, and Pac-West DG volunteered to purchase the final 18th basket for $400 to complete the 18 hole course. Pac-West DG will also be providing Tee Pads and Tee Signs. (He wants to get parks supervisor reviews from other courses before he commits to allowing us to place Concrete Tee Pads.)

Clearing of fairways and points of interest to protect. He stated that we could begin clearing fairways as soon as May 1st. Points of interest to protect are Madrone Trees and no trees in a fairway 8” in dia within 50ft of a tee pad.

“I have been working to get a new disc golf course in at Willamette Mission State Park, north of Keizer, near the Wheatland Ferry. It will not be "official" until we cut the first branch on the first fairway at the first "clearing/work party".

But planning to have a par 56, (hopefully 58- fingers crossed), with wooded and more open holes.

“WHEATLAND DGC” has a tentative funding commitment by Willamette Mission State Parks Staff for the 2013 Budget for new disc golf baskets.
Mike has been working hard on this project for the past year and our hope is that is comes to fruition this summer of 2013. Nothing is certain in these types of projects with government agencies until checks are written and ground is broke. But, we are confident that this project will move forward this summer.

WHEATLAND DGC LAYOUT DETAILS:


18 holes + practice basket (provided by State Parks)

Course length just under 5900ft

Par 54-58

Mix of L-R, treed and open holes

Most holes will have alt pins

18 - 5x10 Concrete tee pads (provided by donations and volunteers PLEASE HELP!)

I have been working on getting a new DGC in at Willamette Mission State Park, north of Keizer, near the Wheatland Ferry. Nothing will be official until the first branch is cut on the first fairway during the first clearing/work party.

We are looking at running a 100 tourney for Canyonview Camp, Maybe May 11th, that would be our first time having the real course layout in place. It would be like a Jog-a-thon in fundraising format, in that each participant would try to raise $2.00-$10.00 per hole from outside sources, businesses, family and friends. Each buisness may only give $0.05 a hole, so there will need to be some kind of commitment. The goal is to raise $27,000 for our Camp. Our regular golf (like with a club and ball) for the past 2 years raised $35K and $32K. Entry fee would be $50 and you would receive a disc and teeshirt, lunch, and giveaways, and the raffle prizes will be vacations, disc golf bags, discs, food, paintball games, a bike, and much more. Let me know what day would be best in May and who would want to get behind this with me!!!

We will be providing rewards for time and production of work done during major projects on Disc Golf Courses. 1%ers will receive discs, clothing, and bag patches depending on how many hours they provide on major projects. Results on the Pysco Santa are in and the payouts were: -$90 per first place teams that tied ($180), -$50 for third place team, + tournament disc sales for the camp = $415 so far (20 discs left), +$400 check from Elegant Catering by Sponsoring a Hole #1 Permanent Basket and teepad, +$324 for general divisions fundraiser money, and +$74.44 donated through Rec Divion and Raffle, which means the Pysco Santa at Canyonview Camp fundraiser raised a grand total of = $1,443.44!!
Canyonview will get to keep (After payouts and disc production price)
= $900.44!!!!! Great job by the Disc Golf community by helping a great cause!!!!!
