Members of the K-State club will be traveling to Jonesboro, AR this weekend to compete in the Mid-South Collegiate Open! This will be our first event of the year and our first chance to qualify for the 2015 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships. Stay tuned for updates. Kansas State will return to North Augusta, SC after missing out in 2013 to compete in the 2014 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships. The NCDGC takes place April 16-19. Huge shoutout to team members: AJ Cruz, Jacob Patchen, Tim Nispel, and Travis Bailey for battling the elements and taking home 1st place at the Cyclone Open regional qualifier to earn the bid.

Due to inclement weather, we will be practicing at the Rec on the indoor soccer/hockey field at 5:30pm. Meet in the lobby at the north entrance a few minutes ahead of time if you're unsure where the field is located. Mitchell and I will be bringing our portable baskets to practice P&A. If people are interested, we may head down to Rusty's in Aggieville for a team dinner (burger/fry baskets $1.50 with purchase of drink).
Make sure you bring your K-State student ID. You also must have a valid parking permit to park in the Rec lot. If you do not have a permit, find a ride with somebody who does.

The final results from the qualifier tryout rounds have been calculated. Here are the players that will be competing in the Heartland Collegiate Disc Golf Championships in Ottumwa, IA:

The team will be leaving on Friday, October 4th. The tournament will be comprised of two rounds of Doubles on Saturday, October 5th and two rounds of Singles on Sunday, October 6th. The courses being played are Memorial Park and Indian Hills Community College.

In order to determine which players will be competing in the Heartland Collegiate Disc Golf Championships (Ottumwa, IA) we will be conducting a series of tryouts. Each player is required to participate in a total of three (3) rounds. Players are allowed to play a maximum of two qualifying rounds at any of the courses, but only the best score of the two will be recorded. One round must be played at each of the following courses: Fairmont Park, Warner Park, & Tuttle Creek.

A “Q-round” consists of a full 18 holes between at least three (3) players. The players present must be KSU Disc Golf Club members that can verify your score. Each player must record their score on a scorecard and have each player sign it. You must declare that you are using this as a qualifier-tryout round before the round begins.

Be sure to play each course according to the league rules associated with each course. At Warner Park, remember to not throw over the top of the trees on Hole 1 and to play the practice basket from Hole 9’s tee the first time through and then the long placement the second time through.

I will be recording each player’s scores as they are reported until I have three 18-hole scores from that player. The best score from each course will be used to determine a player’s total average score of the three courses combined.

I will post a link to the letter and form that you can print off and mail out to family, friends, businesses that you think would be interested in contributing as a disc golf team sponsor. Just a reminder that $50-level sponsors and above will be recognized on the back of our club jerseys.

The goal is to secure at least 10 jersey sponsors, or $500 to help finance the costs associated with traveling to tournaments (entry fees, lodging, gas). Leave a comment on this News post if you plan to visit a business so that we can record that information and that everybody can see who has already been contacted. Hope you all had a great summer. We're ready to begin an exciting season and we're kicking things off at the OSAS Club & Activities Fair. This is a prime recruiting opportunity as there will be lots of new students seeking to get involved. The event is held in the Student Union from 6-8pm.

As the season comes to a close this weekend with the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships taking place down in North Augusta, SC, I found some noteworthy highlights regarding our national standing:

We are currently ranked 36th out of 84 schools nationally.
Out of the schools that did not receive a bid to Nationals, we were only 3 places from receiving the points bid (Awarded to the school with the most cumulative points that has not yet qualified for the NCDGC)

The St. Louis qualifier for NCDGC is rapidly approaching! I have reserved the Kemper Foundation Conference Room in Hale Library, which is located on the 4th Floor (Hale 401B). We will be meeting at 6:00 PM. There are several topics I'd like to discuss to determine how we can make this trip a successful one. Your attendance and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Among the topics to be discussed is raising enough money to send a team to the tournament. I still have a nice stack of Millennium discs with the K-State powercat on them from the 2012 team's fundraiser. This would be an easy way to cover the team's entry fee. Each disc is $20, where $10 goes back to Discs Unlimited and $10 stays with us (see attachment). Therefore we would need to get rid of 12 discs to meet the $120 entry fee. Bring $20 (cash or check) to the meeting if you're interested in helping out!!

In order to determine which players will be competing in the Gateway Collegiate Classic (St. Louis, MO) we will be conducting a series of tryouts. Each player is required to participate in a total of nine (9) rounds. Three rounds must be played at each of the following courses: Fairmont Park, Warner Park, & Tuttle Creek.

Just a quick reminder that the K-State Doubles League has been moved to Saturdays at 1:30 PM through the winter months. With that in mind, we will follow the university calendar for holiday breaks meaning there is will be no official league for the next two Saturdays (11/17 - 11/24).

Just passing on some local disc golf news, encouraging anyone and everyone to attend a presentation that involves the K-State Disc Golf Club! I will be speaking on behalf of K-State club to demonstrate community support towards the expansion of Warner Park from a 9-hole to 18-hole disc golf course:

WHO: Anyone who supports disc golf. In other words, all disc golfers, plus friends & family of disc golfers should attend.
WHAT: A presentation to the Board about Warner Park's disc golf history, information about it's current use, and of course requesting to move forward with Phase II of the project.
WHEN: Monday, November 5th at 4:30pm.
WHERE: 1101 Poyntz Avenue, in the City Hall City Commission Room (west side of building).

Our first chance at qualifying for the 2013 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships is being held Friday and Saturday, October 5-6 in Ottumwa, Iowa. This qualifying tournament is the closest in proximity to Manhattan, KS (339 miles/5 hours, 43 minutes). We can take up to two teams of 4 players each: 1 team for the Championship Division and 1 team for the First Flight Division. I will reiterate this information at the doubles league on Friday at Fairmont.

WHAT: Iowa Collegiate Disc Golf Championships
WHERE: Ottumwa, IA
WHEN: Departure - Friday October 5th (4:00 AM), ETA (10:00 AM)
COST (approximate): $100 entry fee, $70 hotel, $130 gas = $300

Members of the local disc golf affiliations gave a presentation to the city Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the beginning of November. After realizing that further discussion would be necessary before proceeding with the "Next 9 Phase" of Warner Park, the board has scheduled disc golf to be a topic on this month's agenda.

Therefore, if you are free tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 PM, it would be great to make another strong showing to show our enthusiasm and support of the sport.

WHAT: A meeting at City Hall about disc golf.
