Whistlers Doubles Official Players Guide
Welcome: Hi everyone! It’s Whistler’s Dubs week and we could not be more excited to get to spend a few days at our favorite place in the world. I was to first thank you all for signing up for this event, the players truly make it as special as it is. Secondly, I want to give a big thank you to our tee sign sponsors, CTP sponsors and to Cougar Cannabis for stepping up this year with an event donation and a $500 CTP prize.
Format: As you know, this event is three rounds of 27 holes and will test every skill you have on the disc golf course.
-Friday: All players will play 27 holes of Best Shot
-Saturday: All NON-MPO Divisions will play Alternate Shot for holes 1-9, Best Shot for holes 10-18 and Worst Shot for holes 19-27. Formats explained below. All MPO teams play 27 holes of worst shot.
-Sunday: All players will play 27 holes of Best Shot
-Best Shot: Both team members tee off, you pick the best shot and both team members play from there. There are no splitting lies, you must decide on a lie as a team to play from. Once one member of that team holes out, the hole is over.
-Alternate Shot: On hole one, teams must decide who will tee off first. Each team plays one disc out per hole. Player one tees off, wherever it goes, player two throws from. If player two fails to make it in the basket, player one then plays from wherever the shot ended up. Once a player makes the putt, the hole is over. At no time in this format do both players throw from a lie. Player one will tee off on holes one, three, five, seven and nine. Player two will tee off on holes two, four, six and eight.
-Worst Shot: Both team members tee off, the team you are playing with then gets to decide which shot is hardest lie and you must play from there. DO NOT BE NICE TO THE TEAM YOU ARE PLAYING WITH! Make them take the harder lie. It is worst shot for the entire hole, not just the drive. Once one team member makes a putt, the hole is over. No need for both members to make the putt. For CTP’s during this format, you do not have to play from the lie to win a CTP. If player one on your team parks the hole close enough to win a CTP, but then player two hits the first tree, you will have to play from player two’s lie, but player one’s shot can still count for CTP prizes.
Schedule: All Tee Times are posted on the discgolfmetrix.com event page at this point. This is the website we are going to use for live scoring, this is explained later in the player email. Here are the tee time orders for each day. Tee times begin at 7:30am.
-Friday: MA40, MA2, MA1, FA1/FPO, MP50, MP40, MPO
-Saturday: MP50, MP40, MPO, MA1, MA2, MA40, FA1/FPO
-Sunday: MA40, MA2, MA1, FA1/FPO, MP50, MP40, MPO
Scoring: All teams need to make an account at discgolfmetrix.com. It is free and very easy to do. This is basically another version of Udisc, but it allows us to do it for a non-PDGA event. You do not have to have service the whole round, just to start and submit your cards. The website allows you to keep score without cell service as long as the round is started and then you need cell service (which everyone should have somewhere in the park) to submit the scores at the end of the round. Note: For at least round 1, we are going to ask groups to do a paper scorecard also to make sure this all works how we think it will. We have tested it, but you never know.
Scoring Instructions:
1. Go to
www.discgolfmetrix.com or scan QR code at tournament central
2. Log In
3. Search for Whistlers Bend Doubles Shootout (Round 1, 2, or 3 depending on the day) on the top search bar. Click into the appropriate round.
4. Hit orange Enter button at the top of the webpage
5. Choose your group number from drop down menu (will be listed with your tee time, your starter at tournament central will also be able to provide you with this)
6. Confirm that you have the correct teams listed
7. Click orange Start button
8. Keep Score by typing in the number of throws the team had (like you would on any other scorecard). As a note, you do have to click the right facing arrow after each hole to proceed to the next. Please do not do anything with the OB letters on the number page, just type in the scores.
9. Do this for the whole round.
10. Once you hit the right facing arrow after hole 27, the round should submit your score.
11. Go over to the table at tournament central and confirm your scores got turned in. If you also kept a paper card, please turn that in at the same time just so we have it as a backup.
CTP Prizes: We currently have 14 holes in rounds 1 and 2 that will have CTP prizes on them. The flags/CTP markers will stay out for the first two days. There will be no CTP’s in round 3 as all players end at different times and we want to make sure you go home with your prize without having to wait around until the final MPO group finishes on Sunday. The previous email/Facebook posts list what prizes are associated with each hole. Some are just a couple discs, while other CTP packages include bags and even a $500 cash CTP. If you win a CTP prize, you can pick it up at tournament central Sunday. We are not shipping prizes; you must pick it up Sunday if you win one. We will put a list out before rounds begin Sunday with who the winner is for each hole. During round 2, on the alternate shot holes your team only gets one person to tee off, maybe this plays into your ideas of who tees off first during alternate shot.
-Hole 24: This is a $500 cash CTP, for this hole specifically you need to fully fill out the CTP marker sheet if you are the closest to the pin and get to move the flag. This will include your name, team name, what disc you used, the distance you are from the pole and someone from the team you are playing against needs to write their name as a witness that you measured the shot.
YOU MUST MEASURE THE DISTANCE THAT THE FRONT OF YOUR DISC IS AWAY FROM THE BASE OF THE POLE FOR THIS CTP. THERE WILL BE A TAPE MEASURE PROVIDED. If any step is missed in recording your CTP on this hole, your entry will be voided, and the next best shot will be awarded the prize. Jeff says “do it right or you don’t win it.”
Parking: Parking will be something the parks department is picky about. You are not allowed to park on any grass at Whistlers Bend. If the top gravel parking lot is full, your second option is down by hole 25/26 in the provided parking spaces. After that lot is full please go park at the boat ramp and have someone drive you up to tournament central. We are not providing a shuttle from the boat ramp. We tried to get parking suggestions from Douglas County Parks for events of this size but didn’t get anywhere useful in our conversations. Please be respectful of other campers, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PARK IN THE GROUP CAMPING AREA. We do not have that area reserved.
Camping: Please be respectful of all Douglas County and Whistlers Bend Park rules. Respect the fact that there are non-disc golfers also camping at the park and you need to observe quiet hour rules the best you can. Please keep the campground in the same or better shape as when you arrive so we have the ability to keep running events of this size at Whistlers Bend. Also, please make sure all your extra vehicle fees are paid and be extra nice to the camp hosts out there. They are awesome people who are totally on our side for running events like this. Lastly, if you did not book the campsite for Sunday night, you will need to check out of the site before your rounds on Sunday. There could be people who have reserved those sites after you for the next evening, tournament staff have nothing to do with camping reservations but we expect all players to follow the rules and guidelines set by the parks department.
Lunch/Dinner Saturday: Javier with Tacos Guapos will be cooking lunch/dinner for all players on Saturday. He will be serving food from 11am-5:30pm. This is included in your entry fee. You will get a ticket at check in and that is what you use to get your free meal. This will also come with a free beer for all participants that are over 21. We will have a keg of Coors Light and a keg of Pacifico for players to choose from. This is not unlimited beer, it is one per person to make sure all competitors get one. Some players might need to eat before their rounds on Saturday if you won’t be off the course before 5:30pm.
Player Courtesy: While this is not a PDGA event we still expect players to behave and keep the tournament experience of others in mind. If you get to the point where your behavior (substance influenced or not) is impacting other players or park user’s ability to enjoy their weekend, we as tournament staff reserve the right to remove your team from the event. Please do not put us in that situation. Have fun, enjoy yourselves but keep the attitudes and behavior positive.
Hole Rules: All hole rules will be on the tee signs and were sent out in the previous email. They can be found in the email, on the Facebook event page or under the pictures section on the Discgolfscene event page.
