JASON’S BIRTHDAY BASH AT OX BOW COURSE LAYOUT AND OB
Footage listed for alternate holes and pins. Otherwise consult the PDGA scoring app.

All water is casual. Play it where it lies. It is permissible to have ribbons affixed to your discs for this event. In the unlikely event that a thrown disc lands in the Elkhart River and its contiguous floodwaters that disc will be considered out of bounds.

1- Over the orange line, on or over the road is OB. Follow arrows to hole A.
A - 167 feet. Stable shelter hole. Tee from cement. Basket will be behind the volleyball net. On or in the shelter or bathroom is OB. Play hole 2 next.
2S - 250 feet to short pin just beyond the giant log to the right of the fairway.
3 - After completing the hole follow the orange arrows to the left of the basket out to the road where you will find hole B. We will not play holes 4 or 5.
B - 205 feet. Down the road, soft RHBH hyzer to an opening in the treeline on the left side of the road. Follow the arrows to hole C which is down the road on the grass to the left side.
C - 200 feet. Farmstead shelter hole. Straight shot. Basket is between the tree and the water pump. Road is in play. In or on the shelter is OB. Follow arrows to hole 6 which is behind and to the left of the basket. You will cross over hole 5 and 14 fairways. EYES UP. Proceed with caution. Watch for other golfers.
6 - No OB.
7 - No OB.
8 - Everyone plays from the long tee. Communicate with the group in front and/or behind you so that there is no one throwing on another disc golfer. We will not play holes 9-13. Proceed to hole 14, once hole 8 is complete, doubleback down fairway, follow arrows behind 16 tee pad, move with caution “EYES UP” as you walk across 14 and 15 playing areas. Walk behind 15 tee pad, down 5 fairway, following painted arrows along the way as you walk down the start of hole 14 to the tee pad.
14 - Watch for disc golfers navigating their way across hole 14. Communicate with all disc golfers around you.
15 - Watch for disc golfers navigating their way between 14 and 15. They will be coming behind your tee to get to 5 fairway and on their way to 14.
16S - 227 feet. Short pin behind the large tree on the right side of the fairway.
17S - 202 feet. Short pin just behind the original basket placement between the three trees. Everyone tee from the platform.
18 - No OB.
19 - Over the fence and into Ox Bow elementary property is OB. Parking area is in-bounds.
20 - Over the fence and into Ox Bow elementary property is OB.
21 - Over the fence and into the Ox Bow maintenance area is OB.
22 - Over the fence and into the Ox Bow maintenance area is OB.
23 - The road is in-bounds.
24 - The road and parking area is in-bounds. Play it where it lies.

The weather is upon us. With the potential for a few inches of snow on the ground by morning, Aaron Waggoner is heading up a team of volunteers to shovel the tee pads. Reach out to Aaron or respond to this post if you are willing to assist him. The auxiliary gate will be open by 7:00 a.m. for volunteers shoveling snow and setting temporary baskets.

The course is as good as it's going to get considering the flood waters. Ironically, quite a bit of the river has receded over the past three days, only for us to be preparing for a major weather event on Friday.

Every player will be provided with a paper copy of detailed instructions regarding the temporary layout and out-of-bounds. Those instructions will also be posted digitally as a photo on the ABOUT section of the tournament pages and on the digital PDGA scorecard.

Ox Bow Update 3/1/23

I spoke with ECPD leadership today. We will use the 20-hole layout I spoke of earlier. I am also happy to announce that the parks department will have the auxiliary gate open Friday morning for practice on the alternate layout. The gate will be open all day.

Holes and OB are already marked. We will use a variety of temporary baskets on Saturday (I cleared this with the PDGA on Tuesday), but those baskets will not be set up by Friday. Use the descriptions below to navigate the course. All temp holes are marked with orange paint and a flag. Follow the arrows for the best routes.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE: GAME ON!

I walked the course today. There is significant flooding on several holes but nothing we haven't seen or played through before. If you remember the 20-hole layout we used for Be My Valentine last year, you'll have a good idea of the most likely layout for Saturday. There will be a mix of basket types used on these alternate holes and short pin placements.

As is stated on the ABOUT page, we currently are registering 80 players to play two rounds of 20 holes each. I realize there is flooding on the course. This should clear up somewhat over the next several days. Currently, I am in New York City for a broadcasting conference. When I return on Monday, I will examine the course to determine if and how many additional holes we can add to the layout. A waitlist is open. If you register for the event and we are unable to add additional holes, you will receive a 100% refund.

IMPORTANT TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

Thank you for choosing to play "Jason's Birthday Bash" disc golf tournament at Ox Bow. As many of you know, this is the kickoff fundraiser for our complete course improvement initiative. We are partnering with the Elkhart County Parks Department and Friends of Ox Bow.

The park and course will be open by 7:30 a.m. Please enter through the auxiliary gate which is located about 1/4 mile north of the main entrance before the maintenance entrance and Ox Bow School. Look for a dirt road off of County Road 45.

Once you enter the park, drive up the dirt road (parallel to hole 23) and turn left at the intersection. You can park by hole one or a little further up between holes 2, 19 and 20. Stable shelter is there. Bathrooms are also in that location.

Check-in will begin no later than 8 a.m. with the player's meeting at 8:15 a.m. and tee off at 8:30. All players must check in at tournament central which is located at the Stable shelter.

Ams will pick up their player package at check-in. Hole assignments will be posted at the PDGA event page for Jason's Birthday Bash Friday evening by 8 p.m. Follow this link: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/65557

Daylight is at a premium this time of year, especially with the overcast skies and rain forecast for Saturday. Please be mindful of the schedule. We will observe a strict 1-hour break between the first and second rounds. There is no player meeting between rounds. After lunch you should go to your assigned hole and await the 2-minute warning.

Consider packing your lunch. If you leave the park between rounds please re-enter through the auxiliary gate and leave yourself time to get back just in case there is a train or two on the tracks which run parallel with CR 45 and perpendicular to the 15 or so restaurants across from the park.
