Shotgun start today, 9:30, be present at 9 by to get cards and get to your hole. Parking is day use and overflow day use, not at camp or overflow camp. Cards are at camp where check in happened yesterday. Raffle and payouts will be in camp near where check in was yesterday. We have many hands totaling scores. Good morning, Happy Gold Pan. Check in is at camp near the bathroom, please do check in, we'll be ready by 6:50. Please be present for your tee time 10 minutes early. I have heard that Mosquito Road had some long waits for the bridge build, but don't necessarily see that being the case Saturday. You might consider taking Rock Creek Road instead, it's only 5-10 minutes longer. When you park at the day use area, please park tight. We will have some baskets set up for practice at the day use area, between the primary parking and the campground.

Parking will be primarily at the day use parking area then at the overflow parking, never at the boat ramp; speed limit is 10 mph around the property. Check-in for your tee time and players' packs will be near the restroom at the campground, a short walk from parking; unless you are camping, please use the portable toilet near the day use parking. AMs and JRs will get a standard player's pack and PROs will get a small players' pack. Starting hole is 16; 10yr and under JRs will start on 17, skip hole 2, and finish on hole 8.

TOURNAMENT WILL PROCEED AS PLANNED AT FINNON LAKE: I know everyone has been concerned about the status of the Gold Pan Open, Finnon being in proximity to the Mosquito fire which has affected Michigan Bluff, Volcanoville, Georgetown, Quintette, Foresthill. Recent conditions and firefighting progress have been favorable, and the board of MVFA has approved moving forward with the event as planned under condition of heightened awareness for fire safety, a small price to pay, and you can imagine the concern of an entire community that has been living with a heightened awareness since the fire began. Our part in this is simple: do nothing that could create a fire hazard and pay attention to ensure others are doing the same. In addition to PDGA rules to be enforced on smoking, the expectation is no smoking on the property. If you absolutely cannot abstain, the only area deemed safe to do so is the day use parking, ...on the dirt, ...away from any brush, ...with people around to watch, ...absolutely nowhere else. This also means paying attention to where you're parked so your tailpipe does not meet dry grass, and for campers, let me reiterate: we may only use well-tended propane or charcoal; burning or smoking wood for campfire or cooking is disallowed at this time. I look forward to having everyone there to battle it out on such a challenging track, and expect we all understand the seriousness of the matter. If you find that this will not work for you, don't sweat it, just let me know that you'd like a refund and I will process.

Finnon is looking great! We had a 2 man crew Saturday and got holes 1 and 3 near completion. Next Saturday, the 10th, is promising to be 80 degrees and we will have a large crew; I would say about 10 heads currently, but if we could get a few More Volunteers, that would be outstanding. Weedeating that remains: finish 1, hit the slope on 2, final touch up on 3, mid-fairway to green on 6, late fairway on 7, fairway on 8, path from 10 green to 11 tee, late fairway on 11, mid-fairway to green on 12, left above road on 13, right side of green on 19, hole 20, right side of 21 before upper tier and fairway on 21 from upper tier to green, and hole 22 mid-fairway to green. If you would like to come remove brush (bring loppers, sharp tooth hand saw, or battery sawzall with extra batteries), there is plenty of that to do also.

Another Saturday session of weedeating; 7 Contributors, Holes worked on today include 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27; Holes known to be sufficiently complete include 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27; Holes with known progress include 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 18, 21, 22. Assessment of remainder will occur Sunday 8.28. Forecast next Saturday is said to be hot, which may put weedeating on pause for one week; playing it by ear.

Finnon weedeating was successful this morning. We had about 10 people on hand, plus local fire once the day started warming up, and worked on about 5 holes. Sounds like some local residents will put in some time during the week. Next work days are Saturdays 8.27, 9.3, and 9.10; 6 A.M. to 10 A.M. Work is in groups with fire extinguisher backup. Finnon Work Days: Barring any red flag days, we are planning on weedeating Finnon Saturdays 6AM-10AM August 13th to September 17th. Please let us know if you would like to help. Jobs we need to fill include weed eaters, tee area detailers, and rakers/shovelers using hand tools while being ready with fire extinguishers. For fire safety, we are working in groups with no metal blades on power tools. Tools to bring include: fire extinguishers, push trimmers, weedeaters, shovels, metal rakes, grape hoes, hula hoes, loppers, and wheel barrows/carts.

We worked: path on 2, late fairway and green on 3, detailed some brush on 4 tee and early fairway, late fairway swath and green on 13, and fairway swath on 14; see progress under 'Pictures'.
