Hello!
We are a few days out from having a lot of fun in the mountains, the Johnny Roberts Memorial Doubles! This year you will find some new elements mixed in with some of the best aspects that makes this one of the premier events for MHDGC. Whether this is your first JRM or you are a return player, you will see why this event is a special one to many of us, including your TDs. We love to celebrate the life and legacy of Johnny Roberts with all of you. We have created traditions that speak to the person of who Johnny was and still embodies in our community.
Johnny Roberts, PDGA #115, is an inductee in the 1995 PDGA Hall of Fame. (1931-1994)-Gentle, fair and friendly, Johnny Roberts embodied the joyous spirit of disc golf. His lifelong custom of warmly embracing everyone he met earned him the affectionate title of the "Squeezer Geezer". Though he held several Grandmasters and Senior Grandmasters titles and records, Johnny always downplayed the importance of winning and instead focused on having fun. He preferred to compete with people, not against them. A teacher throughout his life, he taught us to enjoy the game and love others. Johnny Roberts literally hugged the world, and in doing so forever warmed the heart of disc golf (PDGA Hall of Fame).
Below you will find some technical notes as well as many ways to have fun and bring out the Spirit of Johnny in your time at this event and beyond. Please read every bullet point to ensure you have a smooth event:
· There will be a prize for best team outfit!!
· Please refer to the event schedule on the discgolfscene.com event page. If anything changes, we will communicate this via email and on that page.
· Player packs can be picked up on Friday, September 12 at the course from 2pm until 4:15pm and Saturday morning until 8:10am
· Every player will get a shirt and sticker, Amateur divisions also get discs. We did our best to accommodate shirt sizes. Late adds, after August 16th. After Round 1 you can come to the check in area to see what sizes we have left and we will do our best to accommodate you.

· Hole assignments will be available on Friday, September 13 at the PDGA site.
https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/82348
· There will not be a player meeting on Saturday, please be at your hole at the start time.
o See the pool round schedule at the end of this email for format information.
· Every round at a Johnny Roberts Memorial is kicked-off with a HOWL. Before you start, give a howl to remember Johnny and to unite the card for a day of fun.
· We WILL be having a player meeting on Sunday, at the parking lot. This meeting is important to the event, and we expect all players to attend. Player awards immediately following the round on Sunday. Please stick around to cheer on the field!
· There will be some water and a portable restroom near the check in area. Please plan to bring your own water and snacks and make sure you throw away your trash! We are playing 54 holes at elevation over the weekend. Stamina is key to your success.
· Layout- we are playing 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. All holes are permanent holes at the Peak One DGC. We have requested a specific layout with the Town of Frisco but have not received confirmation of the layout. We will assess if our layout is set on Thursday, September 12. The proposed layout is listed in the photos page on the disc golf scene event page. We will communicate the layout once we know for sure. We apologize for any anxiety this may cause everyone. Use the UDisc map for reference, but the current basket locations listed here may change:

· If you are driving to Summit County on either day of the event, please allow extra time for driving and traffic. As many people know, I-70 can be fickle with accidents, construction, and general traffic obstacles. We do not plan to delay the event due to late arrivals.
· Most fun wins!
· Scoring:
o We will be using the PDGA digital scoring system through PDGA.com/Scores . The password will be HOWL.
o EVERY TEAM is required to have 1 person keep score, one via the official method, the others via PDGA ideally, but paper, or UDisc is acceptable.
o The group can decide who keeps the PDGA and who keeps the other PDGA or UDisc. The Digital Scorecard is the OFFICIAL score card of the event.
o After you complete scoring, make sure everyone’s score is confirmed prior to anyone leaving.

Format rules:
Every team will play two rounds of best shot on holes 1-18 over the two days and one round of 18 holes of alternate shot on holes 19-27 (played twice). The order of these rounds will differ by pool.
Best shot rules: Both players will drive from the tee and play the hole out from what they decide as the best throw until the hole is completed. Only one player needs to make their putt to record a valid score.
Alternate shot rules: Player A will tee off on all EVEN numbered holes. Play the remainder of the hole alternating shots between the two players. Player B will tee off on all ODD holes. Note that course hole 19 will be both an Odd and Even tee within the round. It will be 1 and 10 since we play it twice so both players will get a chance to tee off on hole 19.
