Hole 12 · Centerville Grace DGC, Short Circuit 18
MVP Neutron Stasis
In the morning, I played Echo Valley BYOP with Scott Jenkins, shooting -14 (2nd place). Was lounging around home in the late afternoon and Donald Huff messaged saying they were going to play the new church course right by my house. Jack Jordan was staying with us for the summer, so I asked him to tag along.
The course was sopping wet. We played the Single Circuit layout (1 and 10, then 2 and 11, etc.) to save time. When we got to Hole 12, as I stepped up to the tee I told everyone, "This is the first ace on this course I'm going to get." I then threw my Stasis on a baby hyzer high and o

Becca was taking Claire back to GLAA after her first home leave. I called Donald Huff and asked if he wanted to play anywhere. I was thinking Winton or Germantown as I was long overdue for an ace (it had been almost 9 months). He wanted to bring the family/dog, and so suggested Moraine.
I missed two short putts on holes 1 and 2, but made up for it with a monster smash on hole 3! It went straight and then started to fade slowly, I thought it was going to be long but Donald kept saying 'Go in, go in, go in...!'. When it stuck, I was momentarily stunned. Discs don't go in from that far.

Kastaplast K1 Berg
I told myself that if I finished writing a test I could leave work early and brave the cold/wind to try and get my first 2025 ace. Got to Twin Creeks Red about 3 pm and said I was going to play as many rounds as it took to at least hit metal. Started on hole 6 (to avoid having to walk too far in the cold). Birdied the first 2 holes with park jobs, walked up to the third hole (hole 8) and fired a Beorg right at it with a snap forehand. It was in the entire way, smashed dead center, top/bottom, left/right...there was no doubt unless it bounced back off the pole. Also hit bogey band on hole 1,

Westside VIP Swan 1 Reborn
Private course accessed by rough dirt road. Joe is making a treehouse of sorts in the woods. 18 holes with signs and quality Dynamic Veteran baskets. Most holes are quite short, I buzzed the basket a couple of holes earlier by throwing hard right at it. Hole 11 is a very tight window off the tee, slight uphill, 198 ft. Threw the Swan 1 Reborn slight hyzer hard. It popped to flat and was flying at the basket the entire way. I was sure it was going over, but dropped just in time for an ace back to back days! Joe was so excited that someone aced his course, he wrote all over the back of the

MVP Proton Deflector
Driving alone on the way to VA for Christmas 2024 at the Finleys, stopped at my last course for the day as the sun was dipping towards the horizon, Dorsey's Knob just outside Morgantown, WV. Very scenic and extremely hilly course (42 flights of steps in ~1 hr round). Played the shorts. On hole 4, threw a forehand Deflector wide left on a shorter 217 ft downhill hole. The blue basket was out of sight just past/between a grouping of trees. I heard the disc hit the tree, and then heard the crashing of chains. I ran up assuming I actually went in the white (long) basket, and went I crested the

Innova Halo Destroyer
Playing the Black Saturday at Germantown 2024 with Scott Jenkins as my partner. High 20s, cold and windy. On the card with David Ziemba and Eric Baker. 14 down through the first 17, got to 15 Black and Scott piped one up the gut but it faded a little too quickly and got knocked down. I threw my Halo Destroyer hard and flat at the center gap, was afraid it might reach the far line of trees but it began to fade and went out of sight left behind the trees. I turned to walk away and heard 'clang'...turned to my cardmates and Scott said laughing, "Did that hit metal?!" We ran to the right to

Westside VIP Swan 1 Reborn
Practicing for New Era Marathon tournament with Donald Huff. Started on Hole 6 by the pavilion and played through the first round of reds finishing on the tough hole 5. Normally throw a forehand fairway up the tight left gap, but a storm knocked several trees down so I told Donald "I think the line is a putter straight up the gap and high." Threw my Swan 1 Reborn on a hyzer straight up the middle and made the gap. The disc flew straight then started to face because of the height. We heard chains crash right behind us from Devin Hoffer on hole 4, but also heard what sounded like chains from

MVP Neutron Detour
Signed up last second for the 2nd Annual Germantown End of Summer Showdown (which I ended up winning and got my first 2024 1000-rated round). Decided to run over and shoot a quick practice round Saturday night. The basket was up on the hill, requiring a late-breaking forehand or smooth turnover. I opted for the turnover and let the Detour go, which I'd only had for 2 weeks, a little too early and it cut high and tight on the main tree to miss. It moved out of sight and I moved left to try and get a view and heard chains! Turned a quick video on and ran up and sure enough, it was sitting in

Discraft Big Z Fierce
My normal Luna throw had been hyzering into the left trees on Hole 5 @ Echo Valley so I threw my Big Z Fierce up the left counting on the understability to move it slightly right. Thought it was going to hit trees, but as it went down the steep hill it held just enough to avoid them and started moving slowly right. I was sure it was going to hit the huge guardian tree, but it snuck past. I was sure it was going to then cruise over the top of the basket, but it hit high chains just right of center, did a couple of rotations up in the chains, and then dropped into the bucket.

Discraft ESP Undertaker
Had a bad round 2 for Masters Worlds 2024 at Olpe and came to Jones West to practice for the next day. Stepped up to Hole 1 in the wind and just threw the Undertaker hard straight at the basket. It gave a nice little flex line that hyzered back. I thought I heard chains, but the winds were high and I figured it splashed. Two guys came running up over the hill yelling 'That stuck! It's in the basket!" The guy waiting to throw behind me came up and took my picture, while the guys ahead waited for me to catchup so they could sign the disc.

Playing my first practice round at Eagle DGC @ Olpe for Worlds 2024. The flooding caused some temp holes to be used. Playing Course 654 during Masters Worlds 2024, windy day, Hole 5 is a blind forehand. Threw the Quake high and hard enough to push around a telephone pole. Playing in the Brent Hambrick Memorial Open, played an abysmal round 1 (870 rated). Fought back with a 962 rated Round 2 at Kinslow and started Round 3 on chase card with David Gibson, Bill Vanderhoof and Mike Riffle. We had a shotgun start beginning on Hole 3. Bill was up first and threw his forehand into the rough on the right. The guys were chatting about the shot and I simply stepped up and threw my Quake on a forehand with a little anny flex straight down the fairway. The hole has a slight left to right slope, with the basket tucked into the woods. The disc came out of the anny and

Playing 3 new to me 9-holers on an early super foggy and misty morning Christmas weekend at the parentals. First off was St. Paul's Journey DGC in Stevensville, MI. A bunch of short holes. Came to Hole 5 which was rather scenic with the tee right next to a large creek. Took a picture of the tee sign with the included biblical text and texted Becca proving that I was at 'the church of the flying disc'. Playing at 10 in the morning with rather dewy grass. The previous round at AU on Hole 12 I threw long with a driver, so stepped down to my ESP FLX Raptor and threw a hard forehand with a tiny bit of anny to flex through the left gap. It came out with enough height to allow it to fade back and as it was crashing I thought 'This has a chance!'. It crashed chains and stuck! Playing the course for the first time with Donald and William. Gave 2 Baggers to some kids skateboarding in the park who asked about disc golf before the round started. Then as I was walking up to hole 8 after the tee shot, I was commenting on how it was a fun little course with ace runs and that if you didn't have an ace, you should play short courses like this more often. I then proceeded off Tee 9 to throw my Brad Schick Buzzz on a slight hyzer at the basket. The wind gave it a 5-8 ft 'kick' up into the air and Donald said, "ooooh, nice lift, go in the basket!". During the 46th annual Spring Disc Golf Invitational, Matt, Dan, and Danny each threw their drives off hole 2 at First Christian Church DGC in Evansville, IN. It was a nice short water carry (150 ft) to an open basket, clearly begging for an ace run. I filmed each of them, with both Matt and Dan making good hyzer runs at the basket. I then got ready to step up to the tee and Matt said "Here, I'll record you" asking for my phone. I said "No, I'm fine" and put it away. I then laced a small hyzer directly into the basket! Playing doubles with Matt vs Dan and Jeremy on Matt's 2022 Bday trip. Matt threw a Justice on the dogleg right hole through tight trees. It was far too short and right, so I threw my Raptor FH on a high dead straight line, it went 180 ft and then the fade started kicking in and it just completely crushed the chains.
