The BIG game changer this season was the inclusion of a few Handicapped singles league. I first want to thank the league admin. Currently posting adjusted scores based on Handicaps is a lot of extra work on their part. Thanks guys and I hope your players enjoyed the benefit of being able to count these rounds and be a part of the Michigan Cooperative Point Series.
With 60+ players most weeks these leagues really helped the top players rack up a bunch of Points. Both of our leaders played 2015 BlueGill Hook Line and Sinker & FRDGA Mondays Summer 2015. Now having a lot of players makes for a lot of points being up for grabs but to end up at the top of the leaderboard you need to be consistently good each week and they were. Congrats D Tree and Jon Blocksma on a great summer season and being Co- Michigan State Disc Golf League Champions for Summer 2015.
Hopefully in the future it will be easier to have handicapped leagues, standardize the handicap system and minimize the effort. When this happens we predict many more singles leagues will appear and we may have to separate the Doubles and Singles into two Point series. At the rate this sports grows it will be very soon ;-)

Just a quick shout out for a quick "Like" to help bring about a new Michigan Disc Golf Course. I'm always amazed at how fast Disc Golf Players come together for a great cause. This one only takes a quick "Like" click to help show support for another disc golf course in our great Disc Golf state. You may not live in Clare, MI but you never know when you may be in the area or how this may help introduce the sports to others in that area. It's great to be able to travel all over this great Disc Golf State to play different courses and each new one helps to expose others to this great sport.
" I was wondering if you could help me. Me and a few friends are trying to get a course approved in Clare MI. There is currently no course yet in Clare County and we have been talking with the school board to set up a course on one of their properties. We have a Facebook page that I set up this past weekend and we are trying to get support via Facebook.
Would you mind sharing our page in your network. Our goal is to obtain 500 likes (Or as many as we can) We then are going to use the information to prove the want/need for a Clare County Disc Golf Course. From there we will be creating a proposal with cost allocation and a business plan to present to the Clare School Board.
If you could share our page, that would be great.

Happy to help Eric - Thanks to you and your friends for all your efforts to bring Disc Golf to Clare, MI. DGLA is happy to help spread the word and help with such great endeavors.
Peace and Enjoy the Rounds - in Clare, Mi one day soon ;-)

About this League
Mixed league - 19 active players
No fee to play in this league
$1.00 ace pool
----
We are doing a fundraiser for Alzheimers for the Shelby Crossing Health Campus on July 31. We are probably donating 2 weeks of our ace pool and another side bet. If a player aces, they will get 1/2 of the pool and our club will add $100 to the other half and donate it to the charity. Its also gonna be a blue moon from what I understand too! Hope to see you guys there.
----
You have never played a glow round until you play with a bunch of rowdy pirates, CHAAAA!! This league is for anyone who loves glow and doesn't mind a little shenanigans on the side!
We are a traveling league with a home port of Bandemere Park located in A2. We will be playing right after 24 Chains Friday League at either the location where the league round was played or the closest place we can play without getting kicked out. We will meet at 10pm and tee off at 10:30pm. We play various formats depending on turn out. Cost to play is free. There will be times we play for $5 a person but it will always be optional. We will also have an optional $1 ace pool that will pay 75%, an optional 50/50 CTP, an optional 100% CTP and depending on turnout, an optional merch CTP. We also are known to play dirty dollars from time to time (all the time).
There are some rule changes from last year so please read below...
Though shenanigans is allowed and even encouraged, excessive displays of shenanigans will not fly as this is supposed to be fun for ALL! Touching a player or their disc or endangering their safety will not be tolerated. This includes throwing things at people shooting & actions that has the potential of making someone fall to the ground. I will ask you to get lost if you become belligerent!
If you get in the way of a player shooting and they hit you, the hit player is considered warned & the thrower gets to re-throw from the spot they just shot from without penalty. If the player in the way gets hit again, the same process happens except the player that was in the way (got hit) will inccur a 1 stroke penalty. If it happens again, 2 strokes and so on. If you are found intentionally trying to hit someone for some stupid reason, I will tell you to get lost, there is no place in this sport for that. As I said, this is supposed to be a fun league, so lets have fun!
This league will be participating in the DGLA Spring/Summer 2015 point series! Show up for some CHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Clarification of Rules - This is a fun league - we try and help everyone learn Disc Golf etiquette and help players understand tournament play and rules but at this league we deviate a bit from some of the PDGA rules. Here are a couple:
1) You can flip your disc if you do not have a marker.
2) If the disc sticks in the side of the basket and you remove it before it drops it counts, as well as going through the cage and into the basket.
3) Best Disc - Partners do not need to throw from the same disc. As long as both discs are in play it is up to the player to select which ever disc they view is the "best disc".
Be courteous of other players while they are shooting and others on other holes. Help others learn the rules and how to be better players and have fun while you compete and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. Help keep the course naturally beautiful.

Now those with just one round had one heck of a great round or did very well at a very large league.
Those with multiple rounds have been able to consistently amass a large number of points per round - no surprise that our current #1 D Tree is in the list
but several of the others would most likely be near the top if they were just able to play more league rounds...
How about our Leaders - How have they gotten to the Top?

Kyle Hinkle - Playing 2015 BlueGill Hook Line and Sinker & FRDGA Mondays Summer 2015 It doesn't take a Win to grab a bunch of points when you are near the top of so many players and Kyle is doing that pretty consistently.
Brian Fitz - 2015 BlueGill Hook Line and Sinker and 2015 Shore Acres Disc Golf League - again both big singles leagues. Shore Acres hitting over 100 players
Mike Wolters - Playing the same two leagues as above but with a slightly better result making his 14 rounds really count.

Jay B INSANITY DGC - 26 rounds (The most in the Top Ten - Scottie Reslock has the most rounds with 28 so far) with 18 counted - 8 different leagues or more - Jay is one of the Disc Golf Gypsies that is luck enough to play many leagues, courses and tournaments.
samuel smith - 16 rounds of 22 total played - Another Disc Golf Gypsy with many different leagues - 3 Wins and 1 Ace to amass 520 points so far.
D TREE - Playing two larger singles league, 2015 BlueGill Hook Line and Sinker & FRDGA Mondays Summer 2015 both with Max points with over 60 player each week. You don't have to win leagues like this every week as long as you near the top but with this many players that can be a real challenge and D Tree has managed so far.
553 points to reach the top of the Leaderboard and number 1 of the current 1030 Michigan league players.

OK June is here and hopefully that means some warm sunny days of Disc Golf. It also means Double Points for leagues that have Highlighted League of the Week (HLW). The first is this Saturday in Vienna Park down near the Michigan/Ohio border and you can get a second round in during the afternoon league as well.
OK we have broken last years record of players already with Two months to go. 932 players in 66 leagues so far. Let's crush last years record. Grab a friend and bring them to leagues. You know someone who would love it, who has been saying they will come out some day.....It's Someday and a great day to play Michigan Disc Golf Leagues.
OK HLWs - only three leagues have sent their desired date for their HLW so far. Not all leagues will have a HLW as some prefer not to have visitors but for the rest if you want Double Points we need to hear from the league admin - just a quick message with desired date between Now and the end of the season Saturday Aug 1st 2014. The date must be two weeks out so it can be published so don't wait until the end and try to sneak a double point round in on the last day ;-) It also helps for players to be able to plan to travel especially if they have to go half way across this great disc golf state. Give them as much notice as possible for the biggest turn out and the most double Points
Now if you play a league in the MiCPS make sure you ask your league Admin. if they have requested a date for their HLW and Double Points - Don't miss out on some extra points.
Also a reminder that the player who has played in the most HLW in the Month of June and also July will win some extra DGLA swag.

Ok I'm doing this all from my phone trying to get it out before we depart the port of Naples Italy. Sound great. Well I haven't played a round in two weeks and I'm jones-ing even more now that I ran through the MiCPS stats. Ok boo hoo
A big thanks to all the league admin who bring us all so many great leagues in so many formats at so many great Michigan courses. Big and small, doubles, Singles, handicapped, ace run and GLO. What ever format they are all great and give players options. Several of us are luck to be able to find local leagues almost every day and some nights of the week. Thank them and help them. If your new to a league help them with your name PDGA # or email to help link your profile so you get all your points and rounds.
League admin. If you want a Highlighted League of the Week = Double points for that round. Send me a message with the date between June 1st and the last day of the season. Give me any special info or messages and I'll try to help get the word out. The player with the most HLW in June and also in July get some amazing DGLA swag. The HLW are a great reason to travel to new courses and leagues throughout our great disc golf state. Check the league info first to verify the details and cost etc.
I'll add the DGLA Ayer level members soon. That is now closed so there are no surprises on the leaderboard when new players join.
These are the players competing for rewards and Discraft michigan state championships run by the MDGO. Now league admin if you are not a member of the MDGO you should be to get your berths to award each year. Thanks to the MDGO and all their hard work the michigan state disc golf championships are the most amazing Michigan disc golf event and probably one of the best state events. The great disc competition and gathering/party you can experience. Check it out if you have not gone before. You can go up and qualify on Friday if you don't win your berth at a tournament or league in advance.
Dropped rounds - means you were blessed with playing more than two rounds in a week Sunday thru Saturday. Only two a week count.
Summer 2014 end up with 42 Leagues and 831 Players state wide - Not bad but it can be even BIGGER ;-)"

Ok looks like there is a battle between those who play and are at the top of the very large - like more than 100 player large leagues and those who have several double leagues they dominate on a regular basis. Who will go the distance? Who will hit a few Aces and jump up. Plenty more rounds before the end of July and with some HLW double points rounds mixed in you never know what may happen.

May 10th is the cut-off to add new leagues - Once a league is added all the rounds since April 12th are added retro-actively - no one wants to see a league added late and the whole leaderboard get flipped upside down, so we have a cut off to add new leagues - May 10th. Even if you first league round is not until July you can still add your league - it just needs to be listed on DGS and added to the MiCPS before May 10th.
May 10th is also the cutoff for upgrading to Player level, yeah go from Free to $30 and be eligible to compete for some MDGO - Discraft Mi State Championship Berth and additional awards based on your performance compared to the other Player level players, 40 players or the top 40%, which ever is largest, get awards. But everyone who plays a participating league is in for a chance to be Crowned Michigan State Disc Golf League Summer Champion .....for FREE.

I always get a few questions about what it takes to make it to the Top of the Leaderboard. If anyone has ever read my long winded rants about the standings you've heard the answer more than once - Play Often and Play Great. Nothing can beat a player who plays great all the time - the only question is How Often and How Great. Since our MiCPS only keep s your best two league rounds of the week - Sunday through Saturday, (the rest are listed as "Dropped") even if you can't play more than once or twice a week you can compete against those who are lucky enough to play more often. But there are several players who can play several times a week and play pretty darn consistent. OK these are your top league players and they will battle all summer to see who is the most consistent and at the top of their league(s) and always have at least two league rounds a week - Maybe throw in a few aces on top of the whip cream at 25 pts each to further separate themselves from the competition. So the bottom line is if you dream of being at the Top - "Play Often and Play Great".
Occasionally I get the question, if I can't play often or maybe not always great. why would I care about the MiCPS leaderboard. Well as one of the players who has been around longer than I want to admit and not always at the top I do like to know how I stack up. I can always look and see how many plyers play how many rounds a week and see how I'm doing compared to them. I like to see how I stack up year to year and compared to players in my area and check up on my many friends that I have made throughout the state over the years. Gotta to be ready for the razzing fun when I see them at State's ;-).
More than ever I have been excited to see a mindset of players and league admin that many of us care about the growth of this amazing sport. Each league that joins this Cooperative Statewide Point Series helps demonstrate the growth of this great sport. This is the sixth summer season DGLA has hosted this event and with the help of Disc Golf Scene we have been able to plot the continuous growth of this sport in Michigan growing every year and it's awesome. So ensure your league is part of this event and bring a friend to your next league event and keep the numbers, the payouts, the Fun, and the excitement growing.
Ok you will now see on the leaderboard the Weekly and Monthly Leaderboards - Who has played the most Rounds, the most Leagues, had the most Wins and ultimately got the most Points -per week & per month for the Summer Season..... It ain't ESPN but it's some recognition for the Michigan Players at the top of their game. And who does not like a little extra Disc Golf Scene bling on their profile page - Thanks Pete & DGS
In June and July those participating leagues that want to have a HLW: Highlighted Leagues of the Week, will get Double Points for their players for that one round, we will post this in advance on the MiCPS schedule, highlight the league format, details and info they want to share in our News posts so the rest of the players throughout the state can see who is doing what, on what course and in what League. Hopefully sharing cool league ideas to help enhance the disc golf league experience everywhere. It is also a great reason to Road Trip and play a course or a league or see an old friend and get Double Points and maybe win some DGLA swag fro playing the Most HLW events in the month of June and July - Bonus. Want to get extra Disc Golf swag just for doing what you love - playing great Michigan Courses and Leagues - Shhhhwwwwwing!
OK it wasn't a full month of Summer play but April is over and so it's a great time to check and see who after three weeks is holding those top leaderboard positions:

Oh my prediction of how to get to the top is right-on so far - "Play Often and Play Great". Sam Smith with 9 rounds lots of great play is at the top again and many other frequent names adorn the top positions. My next short post will contain a closer look at how the top twenty have achieved their place at the pinnacle of the leaderboard over 516 other players state wide.
Until then - Pack it In, Pack it Out - Leave the course better than you found it - Help someone else Discover and Enjoy the sport -
Enjoy the Rounds

Sam Smith with 9 rounds lots of great play is at the top again and many other frequent names adorn the top positions. My next short post will contain a closer look at how the top twenty have achieved their place at the pinnacle of the leaderboard over 516 other players state wide.
Until then - Pack it In, Pack it Out - Leave the course better than you found it - Help someone else Discover and Enjoy the sport -

Awesome response and many questions about how to add a Mi League to the MiCPS and How players upgrade to Player level, so I thought I'd post it all by itself to try and help.
If you play in a Michigan league that plays rounds any time between Sunday April 12th 2014 - Saturday Aug 1st 2014 that league can be added by simply sending Foz a message on DGS with the LINK to the About page of the league. Just to to the main league page on DGS and copy the URL from your browser and send it to Foz. This way if the club has several leagues we get the right one. This does not cost anything - the League does not have to do anything special just post thier rounds on DGS and if they use Divisions or Handicaps then the they must post the adjusted scores that payouts are based on. All are welcomed. The league admin can decide if they want to have a Highlighted League of the Week - Double Points. Some league may not want to have new players and at DGLA we are promoting Leagues of all types and formats. Most like more players, more friends, more Ace pool and more Payouts and we are happy to help promote or Highlight each league to help everyone know what is going on in the Michigan Disc Golf League Scene but leagues can decide if they want a HLW or not.
How do players Join the MiCPS - Just play any participating league and have a profile on DGS. It's all automatic and you are competing with most of the Michigan Disc Golf league players for bragging rights to being the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion for Summer. Since you are part of the Michigan Disc Golf Scene - you get this for FREE. CHAA!!
Now if you'd like to put some skin in the game, get a chance to win one of the 4 remaining MDGO hosted Discraft Michigan State Disc Golf Championships Berths, and awards based on your performance versus the other DGLA Players than you must upgrade by May 10th unless you already did during the Winter season, in which case you got both seasons for the same price. Ching!
May 10th Saturday - DGLA Player level registration cut-off
Send $30 Via Paypal [email redacted]
or contact Foz
Winter Player level members are already registered for Summer -
So much for a short post. If you have questions or suggestions please send them to Foz

As a player in the MiCPS-S you represent the core Michigan Disc Golf players and you can really help make this sport better. Help pass along the Disc Golf etiquette that makes rounds fun and fair for all. Encourage new players and pass along some tips to help others improve. Bring a friend out and expose them to leagues. If you pack it in, pack it out - or at least make sure it ends up in a trash can. Keeping the courses clean is critical to keeping our courses.
We have naturally beautiful courses let's help keep them that way.
There are more leagues than ever so get out to some new courses or new leagues and see what is going on throughout the state. Don't overlook the smaller leagues - they tend to incorporate new ideas faster, have a really friendly group feel and you get introduce to the new courses with the locals who know them best. I also highly recommend making it out to one of the larger leagues as well to experience the energy of all those players coming together at one time, yet in a slightly more casual environment than a tournament. Bottom line, get out and play often!!!! & Enjoy.
Enjoy the Rounds!
