May 10th is the cut-off to add new leagues - Once a league is added all the rounds since April 12th are added retro-actively - no one wants to see a league added late and the whole leaderboard get flipped upside down, so we have a cut off to add new leagues - May 10th. Even if you first league round is not until July you can still add your league - it just needs to be listed on DGS and added to the MiCPS before May 10th.

May 10th is also the cutoff for upgrading to Player level, yeah go from Free to $30 and be eligible to compete for some MDGO - Discraft Mi State Championship Berth and additional awards based on your performance compared to the other Player level players, 40 players or the top 40%, which ever is largest, get awards. But everyone who plays a participating league is in for a chance to be Crowned Michigan State Disc Golf League Summer Champion .....for FREE.

I always get a few questions about what it takes to make it to the Top of the Leaderboard. If anyone has ever read my long winded rants about the standings you've heard the answer more than once - Play Often and Play Great. Nothing can beat a player who plays great all the time - the only question is How Often and How Great. Since our MiCPS only keep s your best two league rounds of the week - Sunday through Saturday, (the rest are listed as "Dropped") even if you can't play more than once or twice a week you can compete against those who are lucky enough to play more often. But there are several players who can play several times a week and play pretty darn consistent. OK these are your top league players and they will battle all summer to see who is the most consistent and at the top of their league(s) and always have at least two league rounds a week - Maybe throw in a few aces on top of the whip cream at 25 pts each to further separate themselves from the competition. So the bottom line is if you dream of being at the Top - "Play Often and Play Great".

Occasionally I get the question, if I can't play often or maybe not always great. why would I care about the MiCPS leaderboard. Well as one of the players who has been around longer than I want to admit and not always at the top I do like to know how I stack up. I can always look and see how many plyers play how many rounds a week and see how I'm doing compared to them. I like to see how I stack up year to year and compared to players in my area and check up on my many friends that I have made throughout the state over the years. Gotta to be ready for the razzing fun when I see them at State's ;-).

More than ever I have been excited to see a mindset of players and league admin that many of us care about the growth of this amazing sport. Each league that joins this Cooperative Statewide Point Series helps demonstrate the growth of this great sport. This is the sixth summer season DGLA has hosted this event and with the help of Disc Golf Scene we have been able to plot the continuous growth of this sport in Michigan growing every year and it's awesome. So ensure your league is part of this event and bring a friend to your next league event and keep the numbers, the payouts, the Fun, and the excitement growing.

Ok you will now see on the leaderboard the Weekly and Monthly Leaderboards - Who has played the most Rounds, the most Leagues, had the most Wins and ultimately got the most Points -per week & per month for the Summer Season..... It ain't ESPN but it's some recognition for the Michigan Players at the top of their game. And who does not like a little extra Disc Golf Scene bling on their profile page - Thanks Pete & DGS

In June and July those participating leagues that want to have a HLW: Highlighted Leagues of the Week, will get Double Points for their players for that one round, we will post this in advance on the MiCPS schedule, highlight the league format, details and info they want to share in our News posts so the rest of the players throughout the state can see who is doing what, on what course and in what League. Hopefully sharing cool league ideas to help enhance the disc golf league experience everywhere. It is also a great reason to Road Trip and play a course or a league or see an old friend and get Double Points and maybe win some DGLA swag fro playing the Most HLW events in the month of June and July - Bonus. Want to get extra Disc Golf swag just for doing what you love - playing great Michigan Courses and Leagues - Shhhhwwwwwing!

OK it wasn't a full month of Summer play but April is over and so it's a great time to check and see who after three weeks is holding those top leaderboard positions:

Oh my prediction of how to get to the top is right-on so far - "Play Often and Play Great". Sam Smith with 9 rounds lots of great play is at the top again and many other frequent names adorn the top positions. My next short post will contain a closer look at how the top twenty have achieved their place at the pinnacle of the leaderboard over 516 other players state wide.

Until then - Pack it In, Pack it Out - Leave the course better than you found it - Help someone else Discover and Enjoy the sport -
Enjoy the Rounds
