For 11 years now, I have attempted to keep scores / results / ace fund(s)/ etc for our weekly doubles game here on discgolfscene. Mainly I have used this platform because I do not participate in Facebook, but I really like the framework of this site.
No scores are posted for 21 of the 52 weeks last year. Some of the scores posted were partial, or based on the memory of those who were there that I communicated with. That means I was not present at least half of the SAFE-D Meetings scheduled for 2024. I would like to see the Friday game continue in some form, and hopefully keep records here on discgolfscene, but it is too much for me to continue to commit every week. While I will be happy to help, someone else will have to coordinate & run it for 2025. Thank you discgolfscene.

Tonight the CTPs went to: Luke on 3LW, Kyle on 7LW, Bob on 9LW, and Zeke on 10 LW. Also played 1, 2, 10, 11, 12 Long Yellow to complete the 17 hole layout. KyleL & SeanH won the playoff, which went 3 holes. Basket skim double-dot on 9LW for me set the CTP in the first group through on that hole tonight, but almost everybody in the other group beat it.

Full moon rising was a nice backdrop this evening in was statistically the most evenly-matched SAFE-D meeting ever. In 522 weeks of random draw dubblz at FG, never before have all teams ended regulation play with the same score; unprecedented parity. Our "one-throw playoff" resulted in LukeS and CharlieK leaving with fatter pockets. Luke got 2 CTPs, compared to one each for EdG and ZekeW.

Surprisingly nice weather, but still plenty of mosquitos for this time of year. Winning team shot 17 down on 19 holes, thanks in part to Bob McC's "field ace" eagle on 25. Memorable because there just aren't that many (legit / long pad) eagles on that hole to date. Bob grabbed CTPs on 1 & 24, Nick got #4 & I cashed #12.

This is the minimum required for the ace fund to be in play. We decided on a Skins game with an after-the-fact, random starting point; that is why the lowest raw score did not win the most money. CTPs on 2 & 5 went to me, 8 to Bob, and 9 to Doug. Doug was also the dot leader, which pays nothing. Near-aces also pay nothing, so the ace fund grows...

No aces in four months, then two aces within a minute of each other! Will DeBruin played his first SAFE-D Meeting last night and did not have funds to join StrongArm League before the round. DMR is a current StrongArm member. Will was in the threesome in front and threw an ace on hole 20. Thunder stealer Daniel in the second group right behind them proceeded to throw an ace on hole 19 right after! Since the secondary ace fund only comes into play the week after primary ace fund is hit, these players split the ($200) primary ace fund. Non-members ace fund payout capped at $50, so Mr McKay-Roberts bagged the lion's share ($150).

Yesterday's SAFE-D meeting started at 5:15 and was played on a shortened course layout in an effort to beat dusk. CTP on 13 was Daniel McKay-Roberts' roller, CTP on 19 went to Luke Stamps, and Jody Cone used two shots to secure full payment of CTP on hole 26.
The 3-way sudden death playoff almost ended on hole 3 but DMR's putt splashed out; on hole 4 my drive & Jody's putt sealed the deal.

With a late start today we finished after dark and the rain had started, so by unanimous decision we did not have the customary playoff. I got 2 CTPs (4 and 9) and Bob McC got the other (22). Ace fun ... show more ›

Ace fund almost got hit by Jody on hole 5, but it survives for eligibility next time....(see previous notes on how Primary & Secondary etc Ace Funds are paid)

Good wind practice at the SAFE-D meeting yesterday. Gusty even after dark for the bonus glow half-round. I will never forget the putt KielW had on the lighthouse that sailed by, then was caught by the wind and came back in the opposite side of the basket from where he threw!
KielW and CliffW bagged the action with a strong score of 65; 3 shots better than the next best total. Three way tie for second was played off in the usual style and went to hole 4, where JamesW sunk a 35ft putt, then LukeS and BobMcC each missed a 15 footer. CTPs went to NickO on3, and BobMcC on 4 and 26 last night. Four of us stayed for bonus glow doubles.

Anyone familiar with weather patterns in NE Florida this time of year might have predicted what it looked like this evening. Hot and humid at signup, very windy from holes 1-6 (which was nice because it blew away many of the DPGs), and then it rained like crazy when our group played holes 7 and 8. Skies cleared up after that, and was almost even nice, if not for those pesky things coming back after the wind laid down. LukeS claimed randomly-drawn CTPs on holes 10 and 16, while JamesW grabbed the cash for his drive on hole 20. Primary ace fund is now maxed out at $200, with the reserve ace fund sitting at $9. Good times.

The CTP on 15 also went to BobMcC but has a more interesting story- I threw first off the tee, split the V, and my disc stopped 8' from the pin. After huge high fives around, my partner Bob says "I might not even throw", then he proceeds to park his 2' away and grab the cash on that one; even though we putted mine to score the fabled v1. Good times. Welcome StrongArm League Member #101 Craig Dickerson of Cobb County fame, who joined us at Wednesday doubles this week and donated his winnings back into the Wednesday Ace Fund. Cool guy! New guy today- Aaron- swwops down from Jax and hits the ace on hole 7, which just so happened to be the bonus CTP pizza hole. Aaron also scored a cash CTP on hole 19, but did not pull the trigger on the StrongArm membership, so the Friday Ace Fund paid out only 50 for him tonight. Still, 58 bucks and a pie isn't too bad a payout for having fun. Other CTPs went to JamesW on 16 and me on 13. Next week the Fund is at 175 (for current members). Chris Gonzalez joined tonight to become the first Member with a three-digit number; will Aaron be StrongArm League Member #101?

Between a late start ("we'll just wait out the worst of it"), a sixsome card, six 10-minute monsoons, and some throwers who just do not play fast, we decided to call it after 24 holes.
TPs went to Jason (24) and Walt (20 and 21). JML & WG also won first place; everyone there was soaked and stoked head to toe.

4/8/16 seemed like it would be a great date to play doubles (or visit Ireland's largest city). Well it was for DMR, who did a bunch of Dublin- he doubled his buyin with first place winnings, then doubled up on the CTP action, parking #12 and besting Luke's drive on #15 (DanBus got #18). All this despite coming in late and joining the Bryan who played odd/cali/hans the first couple holes.

Welcomed a new member tonight, ChrisP from Tennessee. It was a cool but nice, and not as windy as everyone might have expected. DanB and ChrisP were each about 6 steps away from hole 7 and hole 14 on their drives; first time at a SAFE-D Meeting that I remember the same players splitting two randomly drawn CTPs. CliffW's roller on 13 took that CTP (and yes he made the putt thru the ticket booth window). ChrisP and partner JimmieB from New Smyrna Beach earned the victory with eleven under on 21 holes. Three-way full darkness playoff went two holes when NickO parked and nobody else could. Dan Bus was in the zone most of the night keeping his team alive, lots of Ss&Gs on our card. Played the rest of the front 12 glow for more Ss&Gs.

Excellent use of his mulligan off the tee on 9 resulted in an ace and CTP for that hole; the toss worth $110 total. Luke was even cool-handed enough to donate 20 of that back into the ace fund so it does not start at zero this week. NICE! Other CTPs were 2 and 7 (both went to NickO).

Weather yesterday was flawless and bugs were barely noticed. Randomly drawn CTPs went to DanielMR on 4, LukeS on 6, and WaltG on 12. Again this week no team scored a bogey, everyone's mulligan resulted in a saved stroke, and well-matched teams resulted in a tie at the end of regulation. The sudden death playoff went deeper than ever before at a SAFE-D Meeting, not being decided until well after dark on hole 5.

Ace Fund updated and today's scores are up under "Week 129"; Yes, the Friday Doubles scores have been posted weekly on this site for quite a while now... Only four throwers in the fairgrounds slog today. We decided to play only on the N side, making 18 holes by playing a few twice (see "layouts" under the Courses / Fairgrounds tabs on discgolfscene).
Heavy rain for weeks now has every puddle on the course at its deepest, and there was little support for the notion that our usual puddles should play OB. "Play it where it lies" was the order of the day, and the 3 of us without galoshes got soaked, but it was fun in the rain. CTPs went to James on 18, Dan on 21, and Jason on 23. In the Fifty One tradition, each of these fine gentlemen paid me $1 for the drive on hole 20 that skipped in just a few inches high for an ace. Bounced off the back root of the guardian tree and hit the bottom of the band (then rolled 25' away, but the birdie putt was made). Dan split the V on 15 as cleanly as I can remember anyone doing it.

We played a shortened course last night due to the sixsome and earlier darkness. CTPs last night were randomly drawn, and oddly enough they corresponded to the date- 9 , 11, and 15. I put my drive on hole 9 within 3ft of the pin for that CTP, while Jason bagged the other two CTPs even though he was 50' or further away on each. There was a tie for first at the end of regulation, and we decided to have the playoff on the back part of the course because there were fewer bugs and more light. Luke & Jason had a chance to end it on hole 13, but each missed a 30' putt. Second hole of the playoff was from the parking pad (between 13 & 14) to the 26 pin; Ben & I parked our second shot, while Luke & Jason were sitting about 40' out after their second throw. Luke canned the pucker-putt with total disregard for that OB fence just inches behind the pin. By this point it was plenty dark and we all had other places to be, so we agreed to split the winnings.

The yellow jackets in the palmettos off hole 12 took out one of our throwers last night; CliffW had to leave & I learned later that he counted 16 stings. Luckily he is not allergic, and none were above the shoulders. I also found a nest (off hole 6, deep over the fence) but only got a few stings on my left leg. I eventually found the disc I went in after, not sure if Cliff retrieved his or not but we wish he could have stuck around for doubles... Just a tiny bit of rain right before dark, but the ground was plenty soft from all the precip this week. CTPs were randomly drawn as has become the custom: ctp3 went to NoelS, ctp6 to LukeS (welcome back!), and ctp7 to my partner JasonL. JamesW will be your host for the SAFE-D Meeting next week.

The bugs were not as bad last night as they have been most of this summer. While it was still hot, the temps have dropped a little. Playing 26 holes with a sixsome this time of year we need to start no later than 5:30 to finish by darkness at 8pm. CTP on hole 6 went to DanBus, and I got the CTPs on holes 11 and 23.

Since Mason cleaned out the Ace Fund, we've missed a couple weeks and had low turnouts on the others, so the FAF is looking kinda sad with it's single digit. It isn't a big mystery why the turnout has been low- the temperature & humidity has been oppressive, and the DPGs are as bad as I can remember them ever being. You have to really love the game to play in these conditions.
With the ace fund so low, I'm going to try get more participants by providing an incentive (while clearing out some tournament leftovers and new League goodies yet to be disclosed): Look for added prizes coming soon to a SAFE-D Meeting near you.

Pretty sweet hucking by MasonF; he split first place, bagged a CTP, and cleaned out the ace fund with a skip-shot left of the tree on 14. I followed with a skipper on the right side of that tree which hit basket but didn't stick. My other two "double dots" tonight each yielded a CTP at least! Shannon got the evening's "tournament roll" bragging rights with a hammer throw on 20 that hit the base of the nearest tree to the pin, and finally came to rest over behind the tree on 15's fairway. "Lucky" is a sweetheart of a good dog who we all hope to see again soon.

Great bunch of throwers at the SAFE-D Meeting! Very nice conditions yesterday- windy at first, then it laid down about a half hour before dark. CTPs went to EricB (8), NickO (13), and LeoA (21). Next week is the pre-tournament version of our Friday random draw doubles and we will tee at 3:30. Camping is available at the fairgrounds; roll out of your tent or RV and be on the course already!
