Between those dates I’ll be taking 30-40 students discing all day and each student leaves with at least one disc and a prize at some point . Meier Lake Classic participants,



We are very excited about seeing everyone at Meier Lake in less than two weeks! It is hard to believe that the event is so close.



You will be part of history. The largest PDGA event in Alaska history was the 7th Annual King of the Hill event in 2017 which had 85 competitors. The Meier Lake Classic currently has 117 players signed up to play making it the largest sanctioned disc golf event in Alaska history!



I have attached a copy of the course map. The course has two tees on every hole (except for #17 which has one tee on a dock). The course has a white basket and a blue basket on each hole. The white basket is shorter than the blue basket on each hole. The only OB on the course is the lake and roads and beyond. Roads and beyond will only come into play on holes 17 & 18.



Layouts used during the week:

Wednesday Random Draw Doubles: Everyone will play the short tees to the white baskets

Thursday Random Draw Doubles: Everyone will play the long tees to the blue baskets

Battle Under the Midnight Sun (Friday): Everyone will play the short tees to the blue baskets

Meier Lake Classic First Round (Saturday): All Open and Advanced divisions will play the long tees to the blue baskets. All Intermediate, Recreational, and Junior divisions will play the short tees to the blue baskets.

Meier Lake Classic Second Round (Sunday): All Open and Advanced divisions will play the long tees to the white baskets. All Intermediate, Recreational, and Junior divisions will play the short tees to the white baskets.



When can you practice the course?

The course will be open for participants to practice during the following times:



Wednesday, July 15

9AM to 7PM

Players must be off of the course by 7PM when the Paige Shue Clinic and Random Draw Doubles starts.



Thursday, July 16

9AM to 7PM

Players must be off of the course by 7PM when the Eric McCabe Clinic and Random Draw Doubles starts.



Friday, July 17

9AM to 10PM

Players must be off of the course by 10PM when the Battle Under the Midnight Sun C-Tier starts.



Saturday, July 18

9AM to noon

Players must be off of the course by noon when the first tee times for the Meier Lake Classic begin.



Sunday, July 19

9AM to noon

Players must be off of the course by noon when the first tee times for the Meier Lake Classic begin.

Please bring a water bottle to use during your round. We will have water on the course to refill your bottles.



COVID-19 Travel Restrictions for folks coming to Alaska from out of state:



As of today, travelers flying into Alaska have three options when they arrive:



1. Arrive with proof of a qualifying negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure to Alaska.

2. Take a COVID-19 test when you arrive in Alaska, and self-quarantine until results arrive.

3. Self-quarantine for 14 days or the duration of your trip (whichever is shorter).

BIRCH RIDGE DISC GOLF COURSE OPENING ANNOUNCEMENTS:

On Thursday evening, 06/18/2020, we will be running the first event ever at the new Birch Ridge Disc Golf Course! It will cost $10 per person, $20 per pair. $5 will go towards a green fee and $5 will go towards payout. It will be a FLEX start doubles tournament running between 6:30 and 8:00. This means you show up with a partner anywhere in the allotted time (or alone if you don’t have one, plenty of people will need one) and you will wait for another group of the same skill level to compete against. If you can come as a group of four, you will be able to request to card together. Carts will be available for purchase. There will be two skill groups, Pros and Amateurs. If either partner is classified as a professional by the PDGA, your group must sign up as a professional group. The two pairs of partners will be given the same tee time and then play the course together. At the end, the winning pair on that card split the prize money paid by the group of four!

Following this FLEX start doubles tournament, the course will be open to public play Friday, 06/19/2020. The pricing as set by Birch Ridge Golf Course is as follows:
$7/round for a full round of 18.
$10 all day pass.
$60 for a ten round punch card.
Cart rental is $15/round and $25 for all day.
Tee Times are needed to play. Currently they accept new players between 8AM and 8:30 PM. You can call ahead for a tee time or show up and receive one and it’s typically just a short wait.

Starting next Tuesday, 06/23/2020, Leagues will begin at Birch Ridge. The entry will be $10 a person, with it being split $5/$5 green fee and payout. These leagues will be PDGA sanctioned. Leagues will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesdays and carts will be available for purchase.

The cost is 40 and includes 2 discs , the Shootout , Clinic and a Q and A . - Format: 2 rounds of 18 with approximately an hour break in between.

$5 per person (includes PDGA fees & Hilltop greens fee) ***non-PDGA members are welcome and encouraged too!

This is a PDGA Sanctioned weekly singles league, played by division on Thursdays at Hilltop Ski Area DGC.
Offering Open, Adv, Int, Rec & Wms divisions, no minimum # of players needed for division!
PDGA Sanctioned means current PDGA members will get round ratings for these rounds! You will also get PDGA C-tier points (which helps with World Championships invites, etc!). There will be weekly payouts by division, overall league awards at the end of the series, and some other random prizes each week (2's on 10 or 14? Amazing shots? Metal? fun stuff, whatev!) There will be a $50 ace pot.

Hilltop is playing great right now, freshly mowed and lots of bear sightings! :) What a great warm up for the 2nd Annual King of the Hill tournament in August!

Jack Gist Park is new and the only structures currently in place are softball fields and a parking lot. There is enough land surrounding the fields to accommodate nine disc golf holes. The area is undeveloped, but there is great potential for a fun and challenging course layout. There are dense forests, open grassy hills, and even a little creek running through the park. The land is sloping and most of the holes will incorporate changes in elevation. Even though the course will only have nine holes, there should be a good mix of tight technical wooded holes and longer more open holes. If everything works out, we hope to have the course in place by the end of the summer.
