As an apparent response to the registration debacle at 2016 world ams, the PDGA has created or raised the point requirements for 2017. (see < http://www.pdga.com/announcements/2017-pdga-worlds-invitation-requirements-posted >) In the case of MS1 division hopefuls, 100 points will be required. Looking at today's top scorers in the World AM MS1 division: some would not have been eligible according to their 2015 points. That means many of us wishing to play next year will have to stack up some points before this year is over.

Masters+ events have occurred in prior years and there is at least one this year (Michigan Masters, June 11, Reed park). Much gratitude goes to those who organize such events. Limited time and space considerations can effect the opportunities for the less popular divisions in some of the big all-divisions tournaments; organizers can usually predict the player spots needed, but they cannot easily build the courses in a vicinity to insure that smaller divisions have equitable access to quality courses. Separate events (like women or masters only) may not feel different than big all-division events that necessarily segregate divisions, but they can promise that the course(s) are first choice. As we applaud those who put on the masters or women only events, much appreciation remains for those events where all players can gather somewhat as a whole community. We are nowhere near the point where the balance of separate and integrated events is a concern. More masters-only events can be encouraged, even as we look for more opportunities to enjoy the all-divisions events.

After a little web-surfing I see that PDGA has acknowledged a proprietary (trademarked) system done by Discgolfunited. It relies heavily on the PDGA player ratings and appears to have relabeled known features such as the Scratch Scoring Averages found with PDGA. The thing being marketed may be the software used to make it all work at a particular event (no small thing). Playing 20-questions with the folks at Discgolfunited would help with our estimate of the usefulness of the program, but it will also look like we are trying to re-assemble the elements into a different but competitive program.

This club is to serve the interests of Masters, Grandmasters, Senior GM, and Legend division eligible players who wish to increase their chances of finding those divisions at tournaments in or near Michigan. By knowing each others preferences we might better coordinate our schedules, maximizing the number of tournaments with a sufficient muster in our divisions.
Ideas for making this work for everyone should be implemented on a consensus basis. Individuals should feel free to contribute suggestions, where comment and alternative suggestions are offered in a spirit of cooperation toward the goal. That is :The greatest number of tournaments with age-based divisions, where the optimum number of players in those divisions can be gathered. (Pro, Am, Men, Women)
