The decision was made to NOT sanction this tournament for the sole reason that PDGA raised their price for unsanctioned players 50% to $15 per player in addition to the $4 per player they charge the tournament director. Lots of locals are not members so we wanted to save them the expense. We are interested in comments on this decision and may sanction it next year. Hopefully the PDGA will see how nuts the fee is and lower it next year. The Crossgate course can be brutal to ratings also. Any Refunds will be approved. Sorry for any inconvenience but we would love to have everyone.

On a side note, is there any reason players want it to sanctioned other than round ratings?

The last time the PDGA changed the non-member fee was in 2008, from $5 to $10. Deprivation of PDGA ratings/points/insurance/statistics due to the non-member fee increasing for the first time in 17 years is extremely disappointing.

The $1 increase of the per-player fee is lame, however I play tournaments as a challenge to increase my rating just as much as winning payouts/prizes. Losing ratings for a bit more payout just isn't worth it for me.

I can appreciate the good intention of saving non-members some money, but at the moment only 8 of 25 players are non-members. Appeasing a few at the expense of the many is a bad look for such an established event. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but for now it looks like the event's been fettered by the whims of a handful of entitled old locals.

I am grateful for a fun local event, and glad to support it again this year, but moving forwards Wildcat Open should remain sanctioned.
