The decision was made to NOT sanction this tournament for the sole reason that PDGA raised their price for unsanctioned players 50% to $15 per player in addition to the $4 per player they charge the tournament director. Lots of locals are not members so we wanted to save them the expense. We are interested in comments on this decision and may sanction it next year. Hopefully the PDGA will see how nuts the fee is and lower it next year. The Crossgate course can be brutal to ratings also. Any Refunds will be approved. Sorry for any inconvenience but we would love to have everyone.

On a side note, is there any reason players want it to sanctioned other than round ratings?

I am interested in exploring the thought. What makes a non sanctioned, 3 round tournament less competitive? What makes a sanctioned tournament "count"? What are your thoughts on tournaments such as the Go Throw tour which are unsanctioned? I imagine players at those events feel that they count and treat them competitively. Rules will be enforced the same as they are at PDGA events, by the players, a system that lacks integrity as it stands.

JP Smooth Feb 13, 2025 I enjoy getting ratings and qualifying for events through points. Non-sanctioned tournaments do not count towards either.

Agreed on the UDisc rating system. It completely lacks integrity and I do not see how they can change that. I can;t speak to in completely but your crossgate example should be able to be changed by adding a new smart layout to the course. I would like to think that we in the state can support an unsanctioned event like the Wildcat Open in the same way as the Go Throw tour. All it takes is the approaching it with a competitive mindset. Thank for humoring me fellas. I'm genuinely fascinated at what the future holds for the PDGA.

Also, I feel like a well run PDGA event has the greatest chance for overall best chance of rules being followed. I have played several nonsanctioned events where the attitude and leniency has been... "well it's not sanctioned". U-DISC ratings are skewed but fun.

I was dreading driving for consecutive days from texarkana as it was. But im Glad I read these comments just now before signing up because I had no.clue it wasn't sanctioned. I bet some of the players signed up don't realize it either . I like this event but will try again next year.
