Fellow Club Members,
First, I would like to thank you all again for being members of the WNCDGA. The funds we collect go directly to improving courses and growing the sport. We could not do it without you.
This event has been a long-term goal of mine since the beginning of my term and it is satisfying to know it will be my final contribution as a board member. Thanks to Bobby for helping me bring this to fruition and to the rest of the board for supporting me in the chaos.
Below I’ve added some helpful information for the event on Sunday:
Traffic Update:
Thanks to Josh at Another Round, we got the hot tip that NCDOT will be working on gas lines on Swannanoa River Rd. again, this time between S. Tunnel rd. and Governor’s View. We will still be able to get to the course, though just not Swannanoa River rd. from the West. Exit 8 off of I-240 will be your best bet unless you’re coming from the East.
Weather:
For an early December tournament the weather is looking reasonable. That being said, true champions come prepared, so dress for success.
Check-in:
Please check-in between 8:00-8:30 the morning of the event. We need time to set cards and starting holes by 8:45, so it’s important to be on time. There will be a short players meeting right at 8:45. You will have 20 minutes afterward to warm up and get to your starting hole. We are starting this early because the ones who make the initial and final cuts will need to finish by dusk. We will start at 9:15 am with two horns for 2 minutes and one horn to begin.
After you have been eliminated, come grab your seeded 2026 tag but make sure you are registered on Disc Golf Scene or bring $20 per tag you want and your email address and we’ll help you sign up on site.
Layouts:
We’ve posted the layouts on the Disc Golf Scene page. We will use Udisc for the first round at Muni. Cards will be randomly assigned and you will see your card assignment on UDisc (or you can ask at check in). Cards will remain locked until 10 minutes before the round. The subsequent rounds at Highland (if you make the cut) will be scored on paper scorecards handed out there.
Rules:
While this event is unsanctioned, please follow all PDGA rules: Mark your lie, hole out correctly, use a timer for lost discs, use OB rules, and use a provisional if there is a question, etc.
Asheville Muni Course- use all OB rules on signs/Udisc. Hole 11 is an island with a drop zone. If you do not stick the landing inside hay bales, proceed to the Drop Zone. From Drop Zone regular OB rules apply. If OB rope is missing on any hole, use white posts to the best of the card’s ability. Note: the Bicky wall from WNC Memorial will make its last appearance of the year on the green of Hole 6. It will match the already present OB stakes, so no change, though that means if you are leaning against the inside of the wall you will pretty much be in bounds.
Highland- Most OB on this course can be summed up with:
River and Beyond OB ,Beyond Chain-link Fencing and Meadow wooden fencing OB, Inside netting of Volleyball Court OB, Road and beyond OB, Train tracks and Beyond OB.
Note: Creek bed on Hole 10 is casual. If wet, take your lie on safe ground no closer to the basket.
The Tournament:
This event is a Progressive Knockout-style tourney with cuts to the field every round.
The scores will not reset after rounds. The winner of each division will have the lowest total stroke count of the day.
After the first round of scoring, the following will make the cut
:
Top 16 players (plus ties) in Open Division
Top 12 players (plus ties) in Masters Division
Top 4 players (plus ties) in Ladies Division
These are tentative numbers, final numbers will be determined after the full field is set.
These top players (the semi-finalists) will take an hour lunch break and then check in by the hour deadline at Highland Brewery. A quick meeting will start Round 2. The semi-finalists will play a 12-hole loop of Holes 1-12 only (if you start on Hole 7, proceed to Hole 10 after Hole 9 and after you play Hole 12 proceed to Hole 1).
After the second round of scoring, we will tentatively take the:
Top 8 players (plus ties) in Open
Top 6 players (plus ties) in Masters
Top 3 players (plus ties) in Ladies
These Finalists will take a quick bathroom/water break, no longer than 15 minutes. The Final Round will be a 6-hole loop of Holes 13-18 and will commence as a tee-time format with cards starting on Hole 13 in 5-10 minute increments. The order of cards will be as follows: Ladies, Masters Chase, Masters Lead, Open Chase, and Open Lead. In the event of a tie at the end, the winning players will complete a Sudden Death Playoff loop of Holes 1-3, playing each hole until someone becomes the victor.
Stick around for the Final Round if you want to see the 3 Inaugural Stroke Play Champions crowned. The inside bar will be open and food trucks will be present for celebration and/or commiseration.
Side Games:
During lunch break we will set up a tall-dollar CTP on one of the putting area practice baskets at Highland. $2 gets you two throws only. Add your name and phone number to the CTP flag provided if your disc is closest. The Tall Dollar game will be open to throw until right before 3rd round Finals begin.Winner will get the cash plus an added $50 from the Bicky Fund.
As always, thanks for allowing us to serve and thanks for supporting this community event. Based on numbers, I am confident this will be a mainstay of WNCDGA for years to come.
