Just sent this out to everyone:
Course Layouts
My last email I sent out had which divisions will be playing where. I made a switch from then, based on the number of players in each division so we can start each course at 8 am, and have the same amount of tee times, getting done before bad weather moves in (hopefully).
Tee Times
I’ve posted the Tee Times for Round 1. Aren’t you excited. Please look for those on the PDGA page for this event.
Please be there to check in 10 minutes before your tee time is scheduled.
Spotters & Lost Discs
This is a topic that sucks and can happen out here in Three Peaks despite our efforts to cut out a bit of trees and brush, and each year we take out a bit more.
Please, please, please! Send someone from the card or a caddy or someone out to spot on a few Holes (TP: 10, 11, 14 & Iron: 6, 10, 14, 18). I wish we had enough volunteers to have spotters out there for you, but SUDGA disc golf is still in its infancy.
Watch your card mates discs for them and help them find it (technically if you don’t they can call you on a courtesy violation). You have 3 minutes to find your disc. Stick to that time. If you can’t find it, abandon the throw, take a stroke penalty, head back to your previous lie, and throw. This is crucial for not causing crazy backups and being frustrated and exhausted out there.
Weather Plans
The weather is calling for rain, that’s pretty typical this time of year here. It's called the Monsoon Season. And it brings some amazing storms to the region…and we need the water desperately. Your safety is my concern in this because it does come with some pretty wicked lightning storms!
Our main plan is to be up and playing before it hits each day. Generally you can count on rain (don’t know how much and exactly where) coming in around 2pm-ish. A storm can completely miss the course but dump in town, so if it's raining where you’re staying/eating doesn’t mean it's raining on the course.
If I determine we need to exit the course or seek shelter from a storm: I’ll blast my horn in a sequence of three short blasts 2x, send out a message on the PDGA scoring, an email, and make a Facebook Post on the SUDGA page. Only then is play suspended.
In the event that I make that call: mark your lie and seek shelter (grove of trees of uniform height, lightning position if you know what that is, your car, Tournament Central, etc.). We’ll wait for the storm to pass, generally it takes about an hour before it moves on. I’ll then send out a message, email, and post when we’re starting back up to complete the round.
Couple Places to Eat while In Town
These two restaurants helped sponsor the event. Please head there and thank them for sponsoring the disc golf tournament.
Bowman’s Cowboy Kitchen: Great food for dinner, lunch, and even breakfast. They even have a basket for you to practice your putting.
The Park Place Eatery: Go get some of the best crepes! These things are amazing!
Other Things to Do While In Town
Shakespeare Festival: There are plays at the Utah Shakespeare Festival going on that might be worth getting your tickets to go see. I’ve heard Pirates of Penzance is great.
Outdoors: I shared an article on the SUDGA Facebook Group from Visit Cedar City that has a list of cool things to go see outdoors: Cedar Breaks National Monument, Kanarraville Falls, Kolob Canyons-Zion National Park, Hidden Haven Hike, Rocky Peak Hike...and there's a ton more. Let me know if you're interested...it was my job to
Also, go stop by another sponsor, Cedar Sports, and ask them about adventures to have.
Thanks all. Look forward to seeing you Thursday....or Friday if you can't check in early.
