We are just shy of a full field! That is very exciting for our first ever event at the lake. Just wanna answer a few questions I expect to get:
I’ve been asked about moving the start of round 1 up. Unfortunately the back half of the course will be in use for the Active SWV triathlon. All runners should be on the beach by 10 am, which is when the first round will start. I am unable to move this up any further.
Timing for the event is going to be very tight due to this late start time, but we should be able to make it as most are playing white tees. This is a PDGA tournament, and lost disc rules and pace of play do apply. On holes where it is easy to lose a disc, OB lines have been added (stakes and rope line). On those holes, please keep an eye on your cards throws, as discs that clearly go OB can allow establishment of the last spot inbounds. This is done to keep play moving and avoid major backups since every hole will likely have a card.
Payouts for MPO will be handled via PayPal, all other will be handled via merch through Fabulous Flying Discs onsite store. If you are unable to stay to get your am payout, please get with someone you trust or myself to get what you want and can hold it for you.
Caddie book and players meeting will be finalized either tonight or tomorrow, and I will look to post that here as well as dgscene and try to email it to all players.
All the baskets and tees are set. This next point is very important: the old blue on hole 13 will only be used for MPO in round 1. During round 2, all divisions will play from white tee.
Lunch is going to be limited to one hour from last card finishing (sometimes a card forgets to submit on PDGA live, I will be watching when the last card finishes and establish a start time). Frank Pauley and FFD are going to be cooking and providing hotdogs at the lake! If you do decide to go out, there are limited options within a few minutes and more all the way to Harper Road. Make sure you have time, as the round will start exactly one hour after that card is submitted. All that are late will be assessed the appropriate penalty.
Parking - While I feel there will be adequate parking, there are a few things I want to mention: there will be no parking on the road between the upper lot and round lower lot, as this would block line of flight on hole 2. If you are able to carpool just to ensure that we have enough space, you could always have a friend pick you up at the dam launch parking area or at the main area with the splash pad/marina/etc.
Directions - it seems as though maps and google maps suggest taking the Crab Orchard exit and Old Eccles road to get to the park. For those of you that have had the unfortunate experience of taking that road, you are probably looking for an alternate route. I would suggest taking Exit 44 (Harper Rd) and heading west towards Cracker Barrel and Tamarack. You just stay on Harper Rd the rest of the way until the park.
Scorekeeping - for those of you that have not used PDGA live scoring, I would recommend keeping at least 2 cards using this. It ensures that both cards are synced up and allows live score tracking. If you want another medium of scorekeeping, I would recommend UDisc (tournament layouts will be listed for the event) or paper (I will have some available).
There will not be any trophies for this event unfortunately. I’ve tried to pursue some, but haven’t had any luck getting something unique. At this point, it would either be one of the typical trophies or nothing, so I’ve decided to go for nothing.
I’m sure there will be more questions, and I am happy to answer anything you have! Remember there will be no formal players meeting Saturday, so now is as good a time as any to ask. Thanks everyone and see you this weekend!
