Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for registering your child for the 2nd Annual Discraft Michigan Junior State Championships Presented By Disc Baron.
Location: The course is located within the Holly Recreation Area State Park (Day Use, Not Campground). From I-75 take exit 101, head east on Grange Hall Rd, passing over Dixie Highway, continue 1 mile to McGinnis Rd. Turn right onto McGinnis Rd and continue 0.75 mile to the park entrance on the right. Go straight after clearing park ranger booth. There is a brown sign for the Sunset Ridge Pavilion shortly followed by the Holly Woods Disc Golf Couse sign. Either entrance will get you into the parking lot. The event HQ is located in the Sunset Ridge Pavilion which is next to the disc golf course. There is a cost to get into the park if you do not have a Recreation Passport on your license plate.
Format: MJ06/08 and FJ06/08 will only be playing in 1 round per the Youth Safety provision of the PDGA Completion Manual. All other divisions will be playing 2 rounds. All rounds will be played on the Original 18 Holes from the concrete teepads.
Payouts: As advertised, there are no payouts at the end of the event as this event is a True Amateur event which we firmly believe is the most appropriate type of event for a Junior Championship. All players will receive a very large player pack consisting of: 2 discs, 2 minis, towel, hat, pin, jawbreaker mini buzz, and sticker. Additionally, there will be a lot of merchandise that will be given away during our lunch. Every player will be receiving something in this big merchandise give away.
Miscellaneous:
We will have water out on the course during the event.
The course is mainly wooded so there are some mosquitoes, they are not overly bad but you may want to bring some insect repellent to have on hand (I just played on Wednesday and didn’t use any).
The course is cart friendly if you have one.
We will have staff out on the course assisting your groups with any issues that you have throughout the day. They are not assigned 1:1 per group so they will be floating around between 2-4 groups.
Youth Safety: The PDGA has incorporated a section into the Competition Manual dealing with Junior Level Play. It was alluded to in the About Section and Comment section on DiscGolfScene. Here is the section in its entirety for your use. Please read this prior to coming to the event as it will have a direct impact on the event. Compliance with this will have a direct impact everyone having a positive tournament experience, your cooperation is needed and appreciated!

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities for Junior Players during Tournaments
Parents/guardians must be responsible for their children during PDGA-sanctioned events. Neither the PDGA staff nor the event staff are responsible for the children of tournament players, spectators, etc. during events. Parents/guardians may not leave unaccompanied children at or near the scoring area, clubhouse, or any other tournament venue.
Players in the Junior ≤12, Junior ≤10, Junior ≤08, Junior ≤06 divisions must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during tournament rounds. Additionally, any player younger than 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian regardless of the division they play in. A single parent or guardian may be responsible for multiple junior players in the same group if agreed upon by all of the parents/guardians prior to the start of the round. Players in the Junior ≤18 and Junior ≤15 divisions may be accompanied by a parent or guardian during tournament rounds.
During PDGA-sanctioned tournament rounds, parents/guardians accompanying junior division players:
· MAY assume the roles of a caddie; assist junior players with disc selection, throw selection, rule interpretations, or scorekeeping.
· MAY NOT make or second rulings such as foot faults, courtesy violations, etc.
· MUST encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all junior players in the group.
· MUST place the emotional and physical well-being of all junior players in the group above the personal desire to win.
· MUST refrain from the use of abusive or profane language.
· MUST refrain from using drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
Failure to adhere to the parent/guardian responsibilities may result in the disqualification of the junior player or removal of the parent/guardian, and their accompanying junior player, from the event site by the tournament director.
The PDGA highly recommends that Tournament Directors create their tournament schedules to ensure that all players in the two youngest age groups Junior 08 and Junior 06 be scheduled to play no more than 18 holes in one day. Additionally, TDs should use their discretion to possibly limit the amount of daily play concerning the Junior ≤10 divisions (age 10 and younger) depending on the length and strenuousness of their course.
