Also, a provisional doesnt change what he was hoping to avoid, standing in the crap. He would have thrown both so he is in the mud either way. Im surprised no one else in the group knew that rule. I was in rec and i used casual relief. That isnt some obscure rule or something

It sucks when playing with people who either don't play by the rules or don't know what they are. In that situation I would have taken the casual, putted, then putt my foot in the water, putted and marked it provisional.

The rule reads,"A player may obtain relief only from the following obstacles that are on or behind the lie: casual water... or any item or area specifically designated by the Director before the round." When I originally read that statement, I assumed that the water had to be defined as casual water by the TD before the round and this was the opinion of a couple of other officials that I asked as well. However, as I reread the rules, I see that casual water is in the definitions and is described as, "A body of water which is not out-of-bounds, and which has not been declared by the Director to not be casual water." So yes, you should have been able to take casual relief. I think the moral of the story is to always carry a rulebook and to understand where to find the answers.

Chris, generally green tees are novice and white tees are intermediate. so that could go either way. I would think rec should play the shorter tees so i agree with green tees. No official rounds have ever been played from the greens at slippery rock so it will be interesting to see how the scores turn out.

I am only playing rec because I havent played in a tourney in 4 years and I havent played a casual round in a year until playing 9 holes last week. If I do well, I will move up to Intermediate for the tourney 2 weeks later in Deer Lakes

I have never seen or player Slippery Rock so I can't have too strong an opinion. Just looking at the course map though, it looks pretty benign. If most of rec guys are new to the sport, playing short straight and open holes might be boring. That said, I learned a long time ago not to trust diagrams and pictures so it could be completely different from what I am imagining

Ratings wise, it looks like from worlds that the average Rec playing would be shooting in the high 70s which I don't think is a good idea for new players. Hopefully the green tees are more appropriate for the division.

I scare women away apparently... I don't think I got registration open soon enough as I think many women had already chosen somehwere else to play. I also think that Slippery Rock might have scared them away. Either way, I wouldn't mind to hear from women, so that we can have a great event for next women's global.

The biggest issue is the fact that the event did not cater to women. We just lumped their event into the Ironwood. Along with that and the fact that they have to play courses that aren't really women friendly. WGE should be at Knob or Schenley. And WGE should always be the focus. Make the women feel special.

I believe that out of town women are playing events closer to them (which is how it should be), while the Pittsburgh women (other than the few of us) are just non-existent. With Pittsburgh being the great city it is, and the awesome courses we have, I just don't understand why Pittsburgh doesn't produce any more women disc golfers.

I agree with Chris. Lori when you ran it two years ago 8 women competed. This year 1. There are women disc golfers in the Pittsburgh area , but incredibly few competitive ones. PFDS could do lots more to attract women for this event if they were willing to take a loss, of what if: Take HALF the entry fee from men , and put it into the prize pool for women. It is one event every two years , and we "lumped the event into the Ironwood" What did you expect?

I thought you did at Worlds. But Lori's right too. Woman aren't going to travel when there are so many similar events the same day. (Hermitage, Lancaster, Hunington WV ... ) Moving on. We have two years to figure out how to get local female disc golfers that normally don't do a tournament to experience the fun one day (Not TWO) in May.
