First of all, thank you for participating in Disc Golfers Have Heart, a joint fundraising effort between Harrity4Charity and NOVA DIsc Golf Association. This is also disc golf's entry in the inaugural VirginiaSportsFest and the first B-Tier at the new Forest Valley disc golf course, so there are a lot of fun and exciting things going on both from tee to basket and beyond. Please read this whole email, as it contains important information.
This weekend's event takes place at Forest Valley Disc Golf Course and Lake Ridge Disc Golf Course. Lake Ridge co-exists with the nine-hole executive golf course, and adult divisions play two nine-hole loops to short (orange) and long (blue) Prodigy T-3 baskets. Juniors will play flagged short tees to orange baskets, twice. Forest Valley is a disc-golf-only facility on land owned and operated by Forest Greens Golf Course. The course is not yet complete, and we will be playing from blue (middle) tees to either short (blue) or long (yellow) baskets. MPO, FPO, MP40, MP50, MA1, and MA40 will play to yellow baskets; everyone else plays to blue baskets. Follow the UDisc layouts for each course for your practice rounds and to navigate during your rounds:
Forest Valley Blue to Yellow
Forest Valley Blue to Blue
Lake Ridge
During play, we expect all players to keep score for their whole group. Ideally, one person would use UDisc for navigation and at least two more would use the PDGA Digital Scorecard (login code: HARRITY). Here is a useful guide to Digital Scoring.
If you wish to keep score on paper, you must let us know via reply to this email no later than 5pm on Thursday, October 6th. We are glad to make the accommodation, but need lead time to print scorecards.
Play will begin at 9am at each course, shotgun starts at Lake Ridge and tee times at Forest Valley. Pool and course assignments are as follows:
Pool A - Forest Valley both days - all PRO divisions, MA1, MA2
Pool B - Lake Ridge Saturday, Forest Valley Sunday - age-based AMs, FA4, MA4, FJ10 (juniors only play Saturday)
Pool C - Forest Valley Saturday, Lake Ridge Sunday - FA2, MA3, FJ12, MJ08 (juniors only play Sunday)
Saturday tee times/hole assignments will be posted tomorrow on the PDGA event page. Even after posting, tee times may be subject to change due to drops or course conditions, so please double-check your tee times Friday and on Saturday morning. I will also be sending out an email tomorrow with a video players' meeting about special course rules (out-of-bounds, relief areas, hazards, and casual relief). Sunday tee times and hole assignments will be posted within one hour of the conclusion of play on Saturday.
You will check in with the course marshal at your course at least 20 minutes before your tee time. Matthew and Amanda Bolden are your marshals at Lake Ridge and Sully is your course marshal at Forest Valley. You will pick up your player pack at Forest Valley. Early AM registrants (who paid $60) will receive a 50/50 cotton/poly event shirt and two premium INNOVA discs. Later AM registrants (who paid $30) will receive one premium INNOVA disc. PROs, we have $1,000 added cash for you.
Both courses have clubhouses with restrooms, and Forest Valley serves food and beverages. Friday through Monday, there are other events associated with VirginiaSportsFest, including a party with a beer garden and live music on Friday night. On Saturday night, we will have our players' party at Fair Winds Brewing Company, featuring a raffle for some awesome disc golf items to benefit the American Heart Association. Despite all these beverage opportunities, please remember that players may not consume alcohol during play at PDGA events.
More details to come in follow-up emails. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need clarification on any of these items. We're excited!
