Good morning, and thank you for joining us this weekend for CADL Inc. Presents: The 25th Annual Buckhorn Open - Am Weekend! We are thrilled to be celebrating twenty-five years of this storied event, and already excited to see where the next quarter-century leads. But first…some announcements!
Harris Lake County Park gates will open around 7:45 AM. Please do not arrive before this time, and do not congregate along New Hill Holleman Rd waiting for the gates to open. Once open, head into the park and parking will be in the “overflow” lot to your left, as the disc golf parking lot is still under renovations.
CHECKIN
Tournament Central will be on the gravel/dirt road to the left of Hole 1. Checkin will begin here at 8 AM. Checkin will last thirty minutes and conclude promptly at 8:30 AM. Please ensure you are checked in before this time. Please budget the appropriate amount of time to arrive, park, walk to tournament central, and check in before 8:30. Late arrivals delay the entire event and are subject to forfeiting their spot without a refund.
At 8:35 AM we will have a brief but MANDATORY players meeting at tournament central. This is to allow us to go over any pertinent day-of course information, and the PDGA live scoring code will be given out at this time. If you are not doing live scoring and would prefer a paper scorecard, please let me know during checkin. Paper scorecards must be totaled and turned into me within 30 minutes of the conclusion of each of your rounds.
WARMUP
Players may warmup on the course before rounds on Saturday only. Sunday due to the tee-times no on-course warmups will be allowed. We will have a throwing net and a practice basket set up on the road near tournament central Sunday.
LUNCH
As a PDGA B-tier we are required to provide a player pack of at least $10. Rather than bog you down with a bunch of useless crap you don’t want, we are providing all players with lunch between rounds on Saturday as your “player pack”! Lunch will be available at tournament central. We may have extra food for purchase once all players/pre-paid caddies have eaten but that cannot be guaranteed.
LAYOUTS
As stated on DGS, there are two “pools” in this event. MA1, MA40, MA50, and MA2 are in one pool, playing All-Star, All-Star, and Blue. All other divisions are in the other pool, playing White, White, and All-Star. Hole 2 is in the long (par-4) position, Hole 7 is in the long pin by the water, and Hole 15 is in the short tournament pin atop the dam. Please make sure you and your card are playing from the correct teepad on each hole. There will not be any mixed-pool cards, so no need to worry about that.
SUNDAY TEE TIMES- 5 MINUTE RULE IN EFFECT!
Sunday will be the final round, and all divisions will have tee times. Tee times will be published Saturday evening once Round 2 is complete. On Sunday, you must check in with the starter at Tournament Central no later than five minutes prior to your tee time. Once you check in you cannot leave the starting area (defined by green flags) until the starter has cleared you to proceed to hole 1 and begin play. Players who fail to check in before this time period, and/or fail to remain in the starting area within this time period, are assessed a two-throw penalty as per PDGA rules. Please ensure you are warmed up, have used the restroom, and are ready to play before coming to the starting area. This is non-negotiable. Please refer to PDGA Competition Manual, Section 1.04.E, for this policy.
PLAYOFFS
As a PDGA B-tier, ties for first place in any division will require a playoff to decide the winner! There is no playoff loop, playoffs will begin on Hole 1 and will continue thru the course until someone wins a hole. Divisions will playoff on the same layout as was used for their Sunday round (either Blue or All-Star).
WEATHER
Forecasts in this state are notoriously unreliable, so just assume there is always a chance of inclement weather and come prepared for such. This event will take place rain or shine. If there is extreme weather Sunday that would force the cancellation of the final round, winners will be determined based on the standings after round 2 (and any ties would stand as ties). We do not anticipate this being necessary but I am listing it here on the off-chance it happens.
PAYOUT
Payouts will contain a minimum of $750 added value, and will be in the form of vouchers to Another Round Raleigh. I will do my best to get payouts for each division processed immediately upon the conclusion of that division’s rounds on Sunday, so that if you want to head to the Another Round shop and use your payout before they close at 7 pm, you may do that (especially for folks coming from out of town).
2026 CADL BAG TAGS
Josh Belin from Feather Creek Woodworking has once again made our awesome CADL member bag tags for 2026! They will be available at the event for 2026 CADL members to pick up. While we will not have an official bag tag match as part of the BHO, we highly encourage all CADL members to play for tags if they would like!
NC POINTS SERIES
This event will be a part of the NC Points Series driven by Innova, players in Points Series divisions will earn points based on their framework. Thanks to our hole sponsors, the points series fee will be fully covered so no money will come out of payout! Points Series Divisions in this event are MA1, FA1, and MA40.
SPONSORS
Disc golf events cost money to run, and would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors! Please give these folks a thank-you if you see them on the course or just in general.
Rusty Brown
Luke Morrison
Kenny Lukasewicz
Thomas “Cowboy” Andrews
Jim Engleman
And of course a huge thanks to Another Round Raleigh for adding over $500 to our total payout value, which helps to enable us to meet the B-tier added merch requirements. In addition to having a great selection of new and used discs to purchase, they have beer on tap, a tech disc simulator game, putting challenges, TVs, and more to make ARR a great place to hang out! With the new pro tour season starting, you’ll want to make ARR your go-to spot to catch the action live on DGN and hang with some cool folks while you do it!
