All;
First of all, LoCo Disc Golf Club, Bluechip Technologies, Loudoun Sports Tourism, and I would like to welcome all of you to gorgeous Loudoun County for the LoCo Open XI - PRO A-Tier, May 6-8. Our local club, a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has done hundreds of hours of work preparing for this event, and we are excited for you all to enjoy this course as much as we do.
Early next week, I will send out the rules sheet and players' meeting video. For now, I would like to discuss some details that likely will be material to your travel and daily schedules, as well as stress a few very important things about the property and its rules.
I'll start with the zero tolerance stuff, so we can move on to more pleasant things. First, the landowners do not allow alcohol, smoking cigarettes or vaping (nicotine lozenges or gum are OK, as long as they are disposed of properly), or drugs on the property. Second, littering is absolutely not tolerated, here or at any other LoCo event. Third, if you have a problem, you can take it up with me, you can express frustration or anger to me, or you can politely give a correction to a volunteer. You may not insult, yell at, or verbally abuse my volunteers. Any of these things will result in immediate disqualification and a polite request to not return for future years.
Now, on to the fun!
The course is located on the Freedom Center property on Taylorstown Road near Lucketts, VA. You may practice the course any day prior to the start of the event during daylight hours. For practice rounds, please park in the area on the attached map that's marked in pink. We will be playing the white concrete tees with the sole exception of hole 4, where we will be playing the blue concrete tee (the tee on the right, closer to 3's basket). Water, whether creek or lake, is OB. There are drop zones marked with turf on holes 2 (for throws that land in the lake), 8 (available for throws from tee landing OB), and 10 (mandatory for throws that land OB). Please note that rounds will begin on hole 2 and end on hole 1. Again, a more detailed rules sheet and players' meeting video will be coming early next week, and OB lines will be painted on Saturday, April 30.
Portable toilets will be delivered on Wednesday, May 4. There will be one in the north (player, blue on map) parking lot, one in the south (volunteer, pink on map) parking lot, one near hole 5's tee, and one near hole 10's tee. It is unfortunately impossible for us to get a portable toilet to the back side of the property. The toilets will be cleaned on Friday morning, early. We are also working with the property owners to try to get the bathhouse open for the event. I will have more information about that in next week's email.
We will not have water on the course during practice rounds, but there is good, clean well water available from the spigot to the left of hole 7's fairway. Please bring as much water as you can carry. There will also be water throughout the course during the event. Current forecasts are calling for temps in the 70s.
We will have early check-in available at Vanish Farmwoods Brewery on Thursday, May 5, from 4pm-8pm at the Baywatch Bar (outdoor area on your right as you enter the property). Otherwise, you will be expected to check in no later than 10 minutes before your tee time each day at the Bluechip Technologies tent near the lake, to the right of hole 2's white tee (the red area on the attached map).
On competition days, players will park in the area marked in blue on the map. To whatever extent possible, please carpool; parking is sufficient but not unlimited. To ensure good course flow and prevent any passing mid-Atlantic spring thundershowers from derailing the event, we will begin tee times at 8:00am. We are building in blank tee times between divisions and for lunch delivery for volunteers prior to MPO's tee times. The draft schedule is:
0800-0824 MP60
0848-0936 MP50
1000-1036 MP40
1100-1112 FP40/FPO
BREAK
1212-1500 MPO
These blocks will be the same each day (although order within the division will be determined by Competition Manual 1.06.B.2 for round 1 and by 1.06.D for rounds 2 and 3). The starter will do their best to pronounce your name properly. Please reply to this email to provide phonetic spelling if you wish.
We will be providing lunch to all players and volunteers on Friday and Saturday. Friday will be catered by Jersey Mike's, courtesy of Visit Loudoun. Check out the Visit Loudoun website for some fun things to do in the area, like agritourism, wine tastings and beer tastings, or arts and culture offerings. Saturday's lunch will be offerings from the grill (meat or plant-based) provided by the Sullivan family. If you have not edited your registration to specify any dietary restrictions, please do so.
Saturday night will be the Player Party at Vanish Farmwoods Brewery from 5-10pm. We will be headquartered in the Baywatch Bar (and that's where the FlyMart will be, nice and visible to all patrons entering the brewery), but Vanish is huge and has multiple bars, food vendors, etc. Vanish brews their own beer and offers wine, High Noon seltzers, and cider, as well as non-alcoholic CBD-infused sodas (a particular favorite of mine post-workday).
Sunday will be the final day of competition. We will be presenting first place trophies designed by Loudoun's own Rugged and Rustic Creations to the winners of each division. Payout will be sent via PayPal; please let me know ASAP if you need us to issue a check instead. Projected payouts (subject to change) are posted on the PDGA event page.
That's it for now. Further details will follow. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, and we can't wait to see you in less than two weeks!
Sincerely,
Mike Sullivan
