We have had a lot of movement recently of players being promoted off the waitlist to register for the tournament. I was reviewing the list and a large number of players haven't paid or registered once being promoted. A reminder to please check your email for the registration link if you were promoted. If you cannot find the email, please let me know and I will resend. I really want to make sure we have a good idea of players attending so those who cannot make it will be able to give space to other players still waiting.

As many of you are probably aware, New Mexico’s current fire danger and the active wildfires are incredibly dangerous and affecting some of our own and their communities. I hope that you, your families, and communities are staying safe.

On Friday, May 6, 2022 the Carson National Forest entered stage 2 fire restrictions. As Red River Ski Area operates on a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service we are bound by any restrictions in place. After discussion internally and with Forest Service staff the likelihood of entering stage 3 fire restrictions before the tournament is too high to risk moving forward with the tournament as normal. When implemented, stage 3 fire restrictions close public access to National Forest land. If granted an exemption we are able to continue certain modified operations on our special use permit, but hosting the tournament would not be a responsible option to pursue.

This morning I worked with Everett Brophy, PDGA State Coordinator for New Mexico, to work on rescheduling the 9th Annual Drew Judycki Memorial to new dates later this summer. I’m grateful to have found an opening in the New Mexico tournament calendar, and am pleased to announce the new dates of August 13th & 14th for the 9th Annual Drew Judycki Memorial.

Ironically the shirts showed up two weeks ago and the discs on Friday. I’m not sure what karma we are facing for moving dates but two years of COVID followed by historic fire weather, ultimately trying to host this tournament in June will have to wait another year. Thank you all for your incredible support of this special tournament over all these years, this tournament is for the disc golf community and we would not be able to host it without you.

If you are currently registered or waitlisted and the new dates still fit your schedule, nothing needs to be done. If the new dates will not fit your schedule, you can receive a full refund by submitting a request through Disc Golf Scene. If you have any questions, concerns, or issues please do not hesitate to reach out.

Dear Reed, Please cancel my participation in this event. Cost of Lodging nearby, that weekend, is prohibitive. Not sure what the policy is on it, a full refund would be appreciated. I already took a significant hit for loosing my AirBnB deposit. My heart goes out to all those effected by the fires in NM . We here in Boulder Cnty feel for ya.
