Tournament position for holes 1 and 16 are a little different. Hole 1 tournament position is longer than the long position, tough it is easy to see. Hole 16 tournament position plays from the short position straight up to the top of the hill behind the short position. It is basically from the tee pad a straight line over the small ravine that the sort basket is in.

Due to this year being an A tier event which are typically not geared toward casual players (current PDGA status is required), in addition to the logistics limitations in having room for divisions, we had to make the choice to cut it. This is common with similar events.

As they always do - its a big picture kind of thing really. A majority would rather have a large division with good competition and huge payouts that many smaller divisions with smaller prizes when it comes to A tiers (which are primarily pro level events)

Again, an A tier event is designed to cater to experienced players. We will not tell the 600 rated players that they cannot play, but the fact of the matter is that they should participate in C or maybe even B tier events until they are ready to compete on an A tier level. Its similar to someone going from learning on the bunny hill directly to the Olympic skiing championships, except instead of telling them no outright we will try to accommodate them.

My, my are we worried that the 920 players will be too slow or what? Encouraging anyone to play regardless of skill level or tournament rating should be the goal of the PDGA. Having done this for many years I can assure anyone that ratings may not predict how one plays a particular course. As one of the creators of disc golf as we know stated at several Am Worlds I attended whom ever has the most fun wins! Sometimes just getting to be in a "Big Time " tournament is all the fun you need to get you to practice more often and lower your scores and raise your rating.

If it were up to me (and don't take this the qwrong way) there would be NO rec division in any PDGA event. By definition a recreational player is just that , and not in it to compete. Although, I think rec events would be a fun thing

Stuart , I am not trying to offend anyone. Tommy does a lot of work. And directs events throughout the year catering to ams and recs. His point is concessions need to be made if we are have everyone participate in a single event. My opinion is just that. I promise you I have done PLENTY of work on the behalf of rec players

I think in the future putting which divisions you are going to have when you originally list the tournament would help. This tournament had rec division when it was posted months ago then they changed it. I know for me I planned my time off from work to travel down to participate in the spring. I was excited about the event. If someone is in the 900s they could also play up and play advanced if they want tougher competition.

HMMMMM, I think questioning what the TD is doing is foolish. Tommy was gracious enough to respond to a question regarding groups, divisions etc. I was simply musing on the need to seemingly attack people that competetively play as recreational golfers in tournaments being somhow less worthy. I am not offended by demeaning opinions of my choice to play Rec when possible. As I have had circumstances that have deteriorated my skill level I still wish to play and compete with people of similar skills. I hope everyone can respect this! I am sure Michael provides a healthy in put to the Disc Golf World ( you passion for the game is evident in your posts!) Tommy, what can we say? He and his wife have and continue to go beyond any accolades we can currently bestow.

Oh, Adam; it an unfortunate circumstance that can occur when organizing a major undertaking. I was really hoping for REC. Logistically this was not possible. There are several of us in intermediate far below 900 in ratings. Please join us in th fun. John Roy, Tommy Douglas and ALL the Colonial Disc Golf Club consistently provide some of the best tournaments on the East coast every year
