About this tournament
2 rounds of play
After more than a year of working with Haldimand County and the parks staff in Caledonia, I am thrilled to offer the first tournament LaFortune Park has seen in many years. Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley and city special events coordinator Christina Robbins deserve all the thanks and credit for bringing this tournament to life. LaFortune is one of my favourite courses in southern Ontario. The course is meticulously maintained by Caledonia's Disc Golf Club and has seen recent tee pad updates as well as signage and preservation efforts from the Friends of LaFortune Park group.
PLEASE NOTE At the request of the county, if there is to be significant rainfall on or just prior to August 1, the tournament will be suspended and rescheduled for August 2. This is to prevent rutting and damage to fairways and walking paths as this area is very low lying area and prone to flooding. Should the forecast near the tournament suggest rain, it will be communicated here on disc golf scene and also through email directly to all players and volunteers.
This event is powered by FR disc golf and supported by Primal Disc Golf. Victoria Fenninger (FRDG) and Chris Kotyk (Primal DG) will be vending on site throughout the day. FR disc golf provided the CTP divisional prizes and Primal Disc Golf designed the trophies. There will also be custom designed mini discs by the St. Catharines Women's Disc Golf members on sale for $10 at the event.
This tournament and its layouts were crafted with amateur competitors in mind. Often lower rated divisions are not offered in events or caps are set lower than demand. The division caps will remain in place for one week (until July 20th) and then spots will be reappropriated and waitlisted players will be promoted in sequence.
Advanced registration for this event was provided to some of the most amazing golfers who have volunteered and supported Canadian Women's Events by spotting, caddying, taking photos and even chauffeuring players to their starting holes (up to 33% as per PDGA regulations). These individuals give back to the disc golf community in the best way possible- by supporting others and helping events to run smoothly.
There will be added cash to the PRO divisions and two great discs for the amateur divisions (an MVP glow driver and a Dynamic Discs DyeMax midrange valued at $75.00). Every division will also have a CTP opportunity provided by FRDG.
Everyone will play one round of disc golf (from either short or long tees) in the morning and then we will have a minimum 60-minute break for lunch (from the last card finished). Start time for round 2 is an estimate. Please refer to the PDGA app for starting times and holes. A ceremony for the winners of each division will directly follow the completion of the second round. Please plan to attend to support and celebrate the winners.
In the event of a tie, the playoff loop will be holes 15, 16 and 17 (from short tees) until a winner is determined.
Layouts assignments:
FPO & MPO: longs, longs
FA40 & MA40: longs, shorts
FA1 & MA1: longs, longs
MA2: longs, longs
FA2: longs, shorts
FA3 & MA3: shorts, shorts
FA4 & MA4 : shorts, shorts
Money collected for the Ace pot will be awarded to a single ace or split evenly should multiple aces be scored. In the event of no aces, all who contributed to the Ace pot will have a throw off opportunity to be closest to the pin on hole 17 (once the sanctioned rounds are completed). This winner will take half of the Ace pot, split with the St. Catharines Women's Disc Golf Club.
Water will be available throughout the course all day. Please bring a refillable water to help lessen our carbon footprint and carpool if possible. Please keep hydrated throughout the day. There is no onsite lunch option available for this event (it was too much of a time crunch). The town of Caledonia has several food options but is located approximately 10 minutes from the course. Please plan accordingly as not to arrive back late for round 2 start time.
Adam Chainey will be taking and sharing photos of the event with local media and all the participants. Watch for the photo link in an email 1-2 weeks following the event. Adam is also an event official, any questions on play can be directed to him and/or the TD.
Thank you for supporting this event. Where you choose to spend your money and free time matters. I look forward to sharing August 1 with you, and plan to bring more low cost, amateur friendly events to you and LaFortune in the future.
The pass-through and park fees have been subsidized by the mayor and player entry fees have been kept as low as possible.
In place of a TD fee, any money donated or residual funds remaining from the tournament will be donated to the Caledonia Disc Golf Club and the Friends of LaFortune Park group.
