In case you did not get the email - here is the players meeting, a couple weeks early:
Golfers!
Welcome to the 3rd Annual High Sierra Cup, August 28-29! We are excited to host you here in Tuolumne County, where we will be playing the Twain Harte Golf Course and Three Links Disc Golf Courses. If you have not played here before, Twain Harte Golf Course is an open, fairly flat course winding over a beautiful creek and through majestic trees, playing down the golf course fairways. Three Links is a heavily wooded course running up and down hillslopes – a true Sierra Foothills mountain golf experience. The two courses are very different and test your whole disc golf skill set.
There is a lot in this email. For COVID reasons, we will not have a players meeting. Consider this your players meeting – you will be responsible for what is mentioned below!!!
Live Scoring
We will be using Live Scoring for the tournament. This will help with COVID protocols and make scoring and assigning cards much easier for the TDs. One person in the group will need to use the online scorecard at PDGA.com/score - use the access code Cup. Cell coverage at the Golf Course should be good enough for continuous score keeping. At Three Links, there is WiFi near holes 15-18 if cell coverage is not good enough to load the page. If you need to, you can enter all holes midway through the round. Please finish entering holes and digitally approve your card when done with the round. All groups will also be provided with paper scorecards as a back up. The official scorecard is the digital one.
Tournament Rules
All PDGA rules for B tier tournaments will be followed. This includes no smoking or alcohol during the rounds. Tuolumne County is in severe fire danger due to the drought. Any smoking during rounds, especially at Three Links, will result in automatic ejection from the tournament.
Pool A will play Three Links Day 1 and the Golf Course Day 2. All Pro divisions and AM1 will play in Pool A. Pool B will play the Golf Course Day 1 and Three Links Day 2. Registration will be at the entrance station of your Round 1 course from 7:30 to 8:30, where you will receive your players pack.
Day 1 we will have shotgun starts. Round 1 will begin promptly at 9 AM. Your Round 1 hole assignment will be available online at the tournament PDGA page Thursday night. We will start Round 2 after an hour long lunch after the last card gets in. The Golf Course will provide a lunch for purchase. At Three Links please bring your own lunch.
Day 2 will have tee times, starting at 9 AM. Your hole assignment will be available online at the tournament PDGA page Saturday evening. Trophies will be presented after the entire division has come in. For AM divisions, scrip will be handed out to all players who cash. If you think there is a chance you cashed, please stick around and pick up your prize! Whirlwind Disc Golf will be onsite at Three Links to cash out scrip.
Course Rules
At Three Links, there is no OB and no standing water. The course is hard enough. The 2-meter rule is in effect.
At the Golf Course, beyond all fences are OB. In some cases the fence has gaps – the gaps will have painted OB lines. The Creek and Blackberries that are marked by a painted OB line are OB. All Greens are OB. There are no painted lines for the greens – the short cut is the OB line. All Sand Traps play as a Hazard – play from your lie and take a penalty stroke. Hazard lines are determined by whether your disc is wholly surrounded by sand. There are marked mandatories (all left) on holes 3, 9 and 10. If you miss the mando, play from the painted drop zone and take a penalty stroke. The 2-meter rule is in effect.
At both courses, all holes are listed as Par 3. Some holes harder than others! Having all holes Par 3 makes scoring easier and makes mis-scored cards less likely. Remember that your total score is all that counts, not what you score relative to par.
Players Packs
All players will receive a player’s pack! Pros will receive a tournament T-Shirt and High Sierra Cup. Ams will receive 2 tournament stamped Legacy discs, a tournament T-shirt, mini, hat and High Sierra Cup. The AM3 division is playing trophy only – they will get a special, third Legacy disc with tournament stamp.
Payout and Whirlwind Discs
Leonard Muise and Whirlwind Disc Golf will be at Three Links Saturday and Sunday. Whirlwind has over 6,000 discs in his shop for sale during the tournament, from all major manufacturers. Whirlwind will be providing scrip for amateurs who cash. Please stick around and cash out after you finish! Please follow all rules in the shop area, including wearing masks and avoiding crowding.
Pro Payouts will be via PayPal the week after the event.
Trophies
Trophies will be provided to the top 3 finishers in each Division. John Bionaz created fantastic first place Cups. Second and third place will receive pint and shot glasses with the tournament logo created by Jeff Hurley.
Withdrawals
The deadline for withdrawing from the tournament is Monday, August 23 at 6 AM. After that time, no refunds will be provided. If you are expecting to withdraw, please do so sooner than later so we can promote someone from the waitlist and they can begin planning.
Camping at Three Links
Lots of people are camping at Three Links. This is run separately from the tournament. If you want to camp at Three Links, make reservations with Michelle at the camp – her number is 209-591-0195. If you withdraw from the tournament, you will need to call her and cancel your reservation. Although we are not doing camping reservations, Three Links asked us to put down a deposit for any damages caused by the campers who are associated with the tournament. Please leave the camp in better shape than you got it! Any losses to the deposit will come out of the Tuolumne County Disc Golf funds, hurting the local disc golf community. Thank you!
COVID
We will be doing what we can to mitigate COVID at the tournament. That includes no players meetings, electronic score cards via PDGA.com, no awards ceremony, etc... Please limit group sizes, and wear masks if you are unable to practice social distancing. Any PDGA, county or state rules that are implemented by tournament time will need to be met.
Thank You
The tournament committee – myself, Chad Inman, Jeff Hurley, Surpher Bob and John Bionaz – thank you for playing! Good luck, have fun, and remember – the player with the lowest score wins!
