There has been some change in the players field. As such I will repost the players’ meeting email here for all the new players.
I would like to thank all of you for registering for the inaugural Culpeper May Day Challenge presented by Dynamic Discs. I have included a YouTube link with the Virtual Player’s Meeting. Most items are covered in the video, however I wanted to touch on some other things that were not covered in the video, as well as emphasize some things that are covered. The tournament will be held this year at Rockwater Park, 457 Madison Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701. Proceeds from the tournament will be benefiting the Mighty Oaks Warrior Program. For more information on this organization please visit the website mightyoaksprograms.org to learn how this organization is helping service members, veterans, and 1st responders battling PTSD.
Players should arrive between 15-30 minutes before their tee times to check in at Tournament Central (Look for the DD feather flag), and warm up, and ensure they are ready to begin the round at their assigned time. This is important to ensure the rounds run as close to the time table as possible. Should a player arrive late, a tournament volunteer will assist them in finding their card along the course. They will be assigned scores in accordance with PDGA Rule 811.F.5 and PDGA Competition Manual 1.05.E and F.
We will be using live scoring, as well as a paper score card. If you are willing to keep either of these score cards, please let tournament staff know when you check in.
This is covered in the video, but I felt it important to touch on it again. The rules for the Grow Disc Golf $5K/$10 Ace Challenge are very particular, and I want to make sure everyone has a clear understanding on how the hole will be handled. There will be a videographer at the tee box at Hole 12. When is it your turn to throw, you will hold your disc so the stamp is visible to the camera, then you will state your name and the disc you will be throwing. At that point, you will be on your 30 seconds. Should you be able to sink the ace, you will proceed to the basket with the videographer. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR DISC FROM THE BASKET UNTIL DIRECTED BY THE VIDEOGRAPHER. Once you are prompted, take your disc from the basket, hold your disc again so the camera can see the stamp on the disc, and state your name and the disc you just threw. Failure to follow these rules specifically could void your chance at receiving the prize. If you are the player who is following an ace, you must wait for the videographer to return to the tee box to ensure your throw is properly documented. This is only during the first round of the tournament.
Player packs will be handed out at the end of the first round to alleviate the hassle of checking in and then having to return items to your vehicle. There is limited parking at Rockwater Park. We have been given permission to use the parking lot across the street at Culpeper United Methodist Church. The address for that church is 1233 Oaklawn Dr. Culpeper, VA 22701.
The first round will begin at 8am at 7 minute intervals, and the second round will start at 1pm. The tee times for the first round will be published the week leading up to the tournament. The tee times for the second round for each division will be published approximately 20 minutes after the last card of that division finishes the first round. There should be about 2 hours between rounds for you to head into town and grab a bite to eat. We are currently working with the Town of Culpeper to provide us a shuttle to go from the park, to the church parking lot, and then to the downtown area, and back, so you don’t have to move your car. There will be more information on that as we get closer. Tournament staff will be present at Tournament Central throughout the day. If you are comfortable, there will be an area where you can leave your bag and discs during the break.
The CTP Challenge during the second round will be at Hole 13. It was stated before (and also on the video) that the cash prize for this was $200. With the increase in the field, the cash prize has increased to $240. Good luck!
I have included my phone number at the bottom of this email. I would ask that you save that number, as this will be the quickest way to get in touch with me during the tournament, via text, should the need arise. Here is the link for the virtual players meeting:
