⚡️⚡️ ATTN All Players ⚡️⚡️
If you are competing in this year's event, please read this entire post. Lots of good information in here that you should be aware of to be best prepared. This is not a complete list of updates and should answer many questions that are outstanding. More updates will be coming daily all week.
???? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! ????
First of all... Thank you for signing up for Battle at Bachelor 2022, Presented by Bevel Craft Brewing! I realize I haven't communicated much (or at all ????) up to this point, and for that I apologize to each of you for any stress or confusion this may have caused. There's a mixed bag of updates for this year that will have an impact on this year's event and, if all goes well, will help make next year's event bigger, better, and more fun than EVER!
???? Course Updates for 2022 ????
Mt. Bachelor had EPIC late-season snowfall this year. Anyone who was able to enjoy the bluebird powder days from the March and April storm systems that came through knows how awesome and uncommon that was. However, because of those late-season storms the Mt. Bachelor Mtn Bike event season was pushed back to a much later start, and because of that Mt Bachelor will be hosting both B@B and a large Mtn Bike event on the August 13-14 weekend. As a result, we are losing last year's Holes 1, 17, and 18. So we are reworking the layout to add back the 3 holes we are losing for this year, address the flow and safety issues from last year's layout, and identify the holes that will hopefully be part of the FINAL-FINAL layout for years to come. Needless to say, this year's course will maintain the fun, challenging (if not masochistic ????) feel of year's past.
???? Check-In ????
Check-in will be Friday from 2pm-7pm near Hole 1 of the B@B Course. This is right by the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center. You are not required to check-in on Friday. We are doing tee times, and you are only required to be on location at Mt. Bachelor 15 minutes before your posted tee time. Tentative tee times will be posted on Thursday 8/11 and will be locked in and finalized on Friday 8/12 by 9am. We will post in this FB event when tee times are finalized.
???? Player Packs ????
AMs, you will be getting AT LEAST 5 discs of choice (players will be able to choose from bins when checking in), some local food items, a branded towel, and other goodies.
⤴️ Course Setup ⬅️
The course will be set up for practice with tee pads, baskets, tee signs, and walk-out ribbons by the morning of Thursday, August 11th. The course is changing slightly from 2021 (another post coming with details) and in short, 10 holes will remain the same, 2 holes are getting some tweaks, and 6 new holes will be played for this year. For next year, we will get Holes 1, 17, and 18 back, will add in 3 of the new holes from this year, and that will hopefully be the FINAL-FINAL layout for years to come. Last year par from the long tees was 985 rated golf and this year should be similar. It's been a 6 year evolution, and we're really excited about the GEM that we have developed on the Nordic Course that will be enjoyed for years to come!
FYI - The course is long, wooded, and you can't see the basket from every tee pad. It is definitely in your interest to get on the course and see every hole before you play.
???????? It's a Temp Course ????????
Please keep in mind, this is a temporary course on Forest Service land. We are not permitted to do any pruning/trimming work, and on some holes that will be apparent when you notice "that one branch that should be cut..." or "that downed tree that could be removed to really make the hole perfect!" This also means the tee pads are not permanently placed and may have some irregularities. PLEASE DO NOT move tee pads or baskets when playing a practice round. We do our best to make the course as enjoyable as possible while remaining fun and challenging. Everyone is playing the same course, throwing from the same tee pads, and is subject to the same treatment by the course. Thank you for understanding.
⚠️ Safety on the Course ⚠️
You will be hiking through an unkempt forest. Please dress appropriately! Because it is unkept, you will encounter downed trees and loose soil throughout the course. We encourage stepping over, and not on, downed trees, as you never know when one may give way or break under your weight.
⛲️Stay Hydrated ????
Rounds will last 3-4.5 hours for most. Please bring enough water vessels to stay hydrated. At 6,000ft+ and very low humidity, it is often hard to tell that you are sweating, but you are. So please take advantage of the water jugs that are on the course (Holes 6, 10, and 15 will have water) and if one is empty please message the tournament staff or post in this FB group. We will do everything we can to keep them full.
Finally, we wanted to pass along one final bit of advice as you prepare to trek into the mountains with your beloved plastic this weekend...
???? The Mountain Rocks ????
The Cascade Mtn Range is a volcanic range of peaks and thus is largely composed of volcanic rock. While the Nordic course has less exposed rock than the Alpine course, it still contains the inherent sharp-edged lava rock found at 6000ft of elevation in the Cascades. Generally speaking, the course will be less forgiving to your plastic than most. I'm telling you this because if you bag CE, First Run, Special Edition, or any plastic that carries a disc-golf-superlative you may want to consider swapping it for a disc that flys similarly, but isn't worth as much money and/or as hard to replace if damaged.
Simplified, we don't suggest you throw all your primo plastic on this course. These are not the soft, grassy fairways you may be used to. Come prepared to play at the base of a relatively young volcano, amongst groves of old-growth mountain hemlock - and sharp, jagged lava rock. You'll be handsomely rewarded with a unique and awesome experience!
