Below is a copy of the email we just sent regarding the rescheduling of the Foxwood Open due to covid restrictions:

Hello Foxwood Open Players

The 2021 Foxwood Open was shaping up to be a great tournament for the May long weekend. We have 172 players that are keen to come to Baden Ontario to compete at this fabulous facility for this PDGA A-tier event. Golf North is keen to host us again this year and Grand River Disc Golf has been working hard to help make this event a success. We also have many sponsors again this year including out two main supporters, Explore Waterloo and Innova Disc Golf.

This event is going to be particularly special as Innova has given the Foxwood Open 5 USDGC qualifier spots and two Throw Pink Disc Golf Championship qualifier spots. Both Championships will be hosted by this fall tournaments in Rock Hill by Innova Disc Golf.

Unfortunately our communal fight with the covid pandemic is not being as successful as we all wish. This past Friday the Ontario Government has extended the stay at home order and other associated restrictions to slow the spread until May 20, 2021. Specifically the golf industry has been ordered to close during this round of restrictions. We were hoping golf courses would remain open, allowing the tournament to proceed, but as of today this is not the case.

Given the stay at home order extends to the day before the Foxwood Open is scheduled to start we are making the decision to postpone the tournament until further notice. Ideally this event will be able to proceed later in the summer, allowing those that qualify for the events in Rock Hill to make the trip assuming that is even allowed.

As this is currently sanctioned as an A-tier PDGA event we will be reaching out to the PDGA about rescheduling. We also need to take into consideration other tournaments already planned within our disc golf community later in the season. We all hope an appropriate day in August or early September can be found that works for the majority of those that have signed up. The event will continue to offer the 5 USDGC spots and the two Throw Pink Championship Spots.

As soon as we can confirm a rescheduled date for the Foxwood Open we will notify you all. We will assume that all players want to maintain their registration. If at that point you wish to withdraw from the event please use the Disc Golf Scene registration page to complete your refund request.

We would like to make this a three round event however given it is an A-tier and a USDGC - Throw Pink Championship qualifier. That does become limiting as we would typically need a three day weekend with so many players. We are exploring some creative scheduling options that would allow all participants to play three full rounds. One thought is to invite the pros to play a single round on Friday afternoon and scheduling rounds at Foxwood such that the amateurs would play two rounds on Saturday to compensate. We will need to communicate and poll the registered players to see if this is at all feasible given many people may need to book a day off.

We are all sorry for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused. Last year we had to reschedule the event for the same reason and successfully ran the tournament in August. We are confident that this can be repeated and we will all be there later this summer playing the sport we love.

We hope you are all doing well and keeping disc golf strong.
