Rob Martin  › Maverick DG: Longview Open pres by Innova - Int/Rec   April 8, 2021 at 10:42pm

The following email was sent to the email address used for all registered players.

Welcome to the return of the Longview Open!

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE EMAIL. WE ARE NOT HAVING AN OFFICIAL PLAYER MEETING…THIS EMAIL IS YOUR PLAYER MEETING.

If you are receiving this email because you used your email when signing up another player for the event, please forward this info to that player.

If you were not aware, this tournament was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. While we are on that specific topic, the player pack discs and most of the trophies will have last year's date on them as they were already purchased when the 2020 dumpster fire was lit. Hope you don't mind. If you do, well, I'll have a Sharpie you can use to change the date.

DIVISIONS / DATES:

So everyone is clear, you will be playing two rounds on one day. All Pro and Advanced Divisions play on Saturday 4/10. All Intermediate and Recreational Divisions will play on Sunday, 4/11.

LATE WITHDRAWAL / NO-SHOW

At this point, withdrawing from the event will incur a $5 fee from the refund. No refunds will be given out after 7 AM Friday, no exceptions. Saturday hole assignments will be posted Friday before Noon. Sunday hole assignments will be posted Saturday before noon. You can find them here:

Saturday: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48313

Sunday: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48315

If you cancel after Friday 7am, but before check-in closes for your particular day, Ams will receive the player pack (to be picked up as I cannot ship umbrellas at this point). Pros, if you proactively cancel before check in closes, as a thank you for letting me know I'll ship you some Double G jerky (FYI, not required per PDGA). If anyone, regardless of division, does not proactively cancel and doesn't show up (No-Call, No-Show), you will forfeit your player pack and entry fee.

To cancel, text or call your name and division, with comment you are cancelling to 785-764-2229.

PARKING - IMPORTANT

The US Corps of Engineers is adamant that we do not park on both sides of Ferguson Road. Therefore you can either park in the gravel lot for the course itself or on the EAST side of Ferguson Road which is the side AWAY from the disc golf course. DO NOT PARK in Apple Valley Event Center's (old Hog Holler) parking lot. If you start your round at one of the far away holes, as long as the gates are open you can park near your starting hole keeping the cars to one side of the road.

RESTROOMS

Maverick DG has rented a portable restroom for the weekend. There is also a public out-house further down the road at the boat ramp. The next closest restroom with running water is either in Ozawkie or Perry, both about 15 minutes away.

CHECK-IN

Check-in is from 8am - 8:45 am at the shelter by Hole 1. All players, Pro and Am, need to check in. During check in I will let you know what time we will tee off for Round 1. I'm not posting that before hand because I need you to check in so I know you made it.

SCORING

We will be using the PDGA digital scoring system. (This is not Udisc). To access it, go to pdga.com/score. Enter in the password, then your last name or PDGA number, and the card will pull up. I will have paper scorecards as a backup. You can also use udisc as a backup. However, to submit the scores, it needs to be done through the PDGA scoring system.

Saturday password: yetisat

Sundy password: yetisun

CADDY BOOK

Hole lengths, pars, and OB rules are listed in the PDGA app while you are keeping score. You can also go to this link to find each day's set up and rules.

There is a gigantic course map at the parking lot near hole one. If you want an online version, you can find it here:

COURSE CONDITIONS

The course is in the best shape I've seen it in several years. Special thank you to Kent Bryan from Topeka who coordinates the work days and does A TON of work alone and to the Kaw Valley Disc Golf Club (Lawrence) for their work as well.

This course is very hilly with significant boulders to climb over, up and down. Please be prepared by wearing excellent shoes with good traction. If it is wet, it could get gnarly.

This course is definitely NOT cart friendly.

AMATEUR PLAYER PACKS

Ams will receive a Maverick DG golf umbrella and (2020) tournament stamped disc. If you want to research the available discs ahead of time, they are:

KC PRO Colt
Star Corvette
GStar Destroyer
Luster Champion Firebird
Star Leopard
XT Mako3
Luster Champion Mystere
R-Pro Pig
Luster Champion Shryke
Shimmer Star Teebird

I will be splitting up the discs so that an assortment of each is available both days, but they are first come first serve.

LUNCH BREAK / ROUND 2

We will have an approximately 1 hour lunch break after the last card is completed before starting round 2. In all likelihood, your starting hole number will change. You will be able to find your new starting hole and second round tee time at the same links above and copied here below.

Saturday: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48313

Sunday: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48315

Lago Vista Grill from Ozawkie will be serving various street tacos for lunch. They can accept cash or cards. They will be set up across the street in the Apple Valley Event Center parking lot. Please walk to the food truck. I assured the owner that we would not be parking in their lot.

AWARDS / PAYOUTS

To decrease the amount of congregation we will not have a formal awards ceremony. I will give the award as soon as the clear winner is determined after the second round. PRO PAYOUTS can be either a check picked up the same day, a check mailed to you, or PayPal Goods and Services (winner pays fees) based on what you chose during registration. AM PAYOUTS can either be the same day with inventory I have on-hand, or you can receive a Gift Card code to redeem via my webstore maverickdiscgolf.com. If you choose the webstore, it will charge you sales tax and shipping. I do have some items in my tournament bins that are not available online, and I have some stuff online that is not available in my tournament bins.

PDGA POSTING

My goal is to have the 'official' results posted to the PDGA by Sunday evening, April 11 so that they are included in Tuesday April 13th's ratings update. There is a slight chance that Sunday's results won't get done in time. I will certainly try, but please accept my apologies if they are not.

THANK YOU

I want to sincerely thank you for choosing to play in Maverick Disc Golf events, and particularly the Longview Open. This is one of my favorite events on one of my favorite courses. If you are a first timer, I hope you enjoy it!
