then is it safe to assume that the spots that would theoretically be available via that qualifier will be filled even if one should “qualify” via that event? I’m sorry, I’m just having some trouble understanding why that specific event would be explicitly listed as a qualifier if the allotted spots for that event will be filled already

The qualification process for USADGC is not bracket style. Spots at the tournament and not held from each qualifying event. This year there were over 70 qualifying events. With also including top rated AMs, the list of qualified players is already over 1400 for an event that has ~150 players. We are not calling out Gratiot County Open as a specific event for this to happen to. There are many other which occur so close to the USADGC have always been in a unique situation. This is why the 2019 GCO was pushed to also be a qualifier for the 2020 USADGC. This may still happen that 2020 GCO will be a pushed qualifier for 2021 USADGC, but that has not yet been confirmed. We hope to have this clarified sooner rather than later. For you, I would recommend if you do qualify from 2020 GCO to sign up for 2020 USADGC. Being a relative local you will have a greater opportunity to attend then others. There is always a high dropout rate for this event as people to sign up early have things change. The waitlist is constantly used to refill spots.
