In the fall of 2018, the Michigan Disc Golf Organization (MDGO) decided to split off the Junior Divisions from the Discraft Michigan State Championship in an effort to boost poor attendance and to create a friendlier atmosphere for the junior level players in Michigan. The MDGO sought proposals to run a state championship level event catered for the junior players and Black Ace Disc Golf out of Grand Blanc was the proposal that was selected.
Several changes have been made to the event in an effort to help promote this event to be more accessible and player friendly:
• The event has been moved off of a holiday weekend and will take place on August 10th at the Holly Woods Disc Golf Course located in the Holly Recreation Area State Park.
• No berths are required to play in the event.
• Strict adherence to the PDGA Competition Manual 1.13 Youth Safety.
• The entry fee has been reduced to $25.
• The event is a true amateur event and as such there are no payouts to the winner. The winners will receive a trophy. Each player will receive player package exceeding the value of their entry fee.
• Lunch will be provided to all participants and their guardians.
• Numerous course officials will be out on the course assisting with rulings and any issues that may come up.
• A pro clinic will be a part of an extended lunch period.
• MJ08/FJ08 will only play 1 round as recommended in 1.13 Youth Safety of the PDGA Competition Manual.
As the guardian of a junior level player in Michigan, I would like to personally invite you to the inaugural Discraft Michigan Junior State Championships. Registration opens up on June 1st and registration can be found at
