It appears that there will be no age restricted am divisions now due to not capping divisions initially. What was the thought on not capping divisions and not allowing at least four (4) players for am age restricted divisions the opportunity to register initially?

Well, if 4 MA40 guys don’t all get in, you’ll just play in another am division. Seeing as your rating is 873, you’d probably be in MA2, and be pretty decently competitive. In a first come first served tourney like this, I get not capping age based divisions to make sure they can be filled. It’s only 8pm, most people should still be able to be at their computers and sign up. It’s not like they’re going to turn the MA40, Ma50 and Ma60 registrants away; they might just have to play in MA2 or Ma1. Or you can always sign up for MP40

I don’t personally see a reason for age protected divisions to have a four player cap so they can form; if 4 of the age guys don’t get in, they can just play in one of the general am divisions. To me, it’s more unfair for an MA40 dude to be able to sign up after everyone races to sign up already. If they’re not on their computer or phone waiting for 8 pm so they can get in, why should their spot be saved over a MA2 or ma1 guy who’s there waiting and ready?
I should also add that I can see the argument for protecting the women’s divisions more clearly as there are so few of them who play tournaments, whereas there are plenty of folks who can fill out the MA40 and above fields, they just weren’t fast enough on registering in time for a tournament that historically sells out extremely quickly
