Chapter Six: The Kats of Alcantra
“The most dangerous beasts are the ones caught between two worlds.”
The hunt returned to Alcantra this week for a unique 20-hole layout, featuring the new Hole 1 and Hole 3. Waiting in the shadows were the Kats, the half-man, half-bear creatures of Tlingit legend.
The stories tell of Kaats, a hunter whose life became divided between two worlds. His choices eventually gave rise to the Kats—creatures possessing the strength of bears and the cunning of men.
This week felt much the same.
Players faced decisions on every fairway. Attack or play safe. Run the putt or settle for par. Trust aggression or trust patience.
Some choices led to birdies.
Others created monsters.
???? A Tier — Morgan Claims the Hunt
When the dust settled, it was Morgan Leeds standing atop the mountain.
Fresh from his winter hibernation, Morgan continued his resurgence with a strong -9, claiming the A-tier victory and proving he's once again a force in the Valley.
Not far behind was a hungry pack of contenders:
Jake Ratliff — -8
Isaiah Gall — -7
Justin Foster — -5
Kelly Allen — -2
Thomas Voight — -2
But buried within those scores was one of the week's most interesting stories.
The Ratliff family came within a single stroke of something remarkable.
Jake's -8 was better than both Jeremy's winning score in B-tier and Jax's winning score in D-tier. Had Morgan not fired a -9, the Ratliffs would have captured A, B, and D Tier all in the same week.
One stroke.
One beast standing in the way.
Morgan Leeds may have prevented one of the greatest family takeovers the Valley has ever seen.
⚔️ B Tier — Jeremy Leads the Charge
While Morgan defended A-tier, Jeremy Ratliff took care of business in B.
His -6 was enough to claim the division and continue the Ratliff family's push toward Valley domination.
Following behind:
Christopher Foley — -3
Alex Strawn — -2
Aaron Merideth — -2
Rodney Stepp — -1
Scott Foster — Even
Elijah Allen — Even
Scott Bowen — +2
The battle for B remains one of the tightest in the league, with no player able to separate themselves for long.
???? C Tier — Larry Finds the Right Path
The Kats may have been trying to lead players astray, but Larry Nunes wasn't fooled.
His -1 was the only under-par round in C-tier and earned him the division win.
Also navigating the maze:
Tae Voight — +2
Wilson Jennings — +5
Kevin Vacca — +5
The middle divisions continue to improve every week as players learn to survive the Valley's growing collection of beasts.
❄️ D Tier — Jax Completes the Family's Strong Week
The youngest Ratliff carried his part of the burden.
Jax Ratliff claimed D-tier with a +4, giving the family victories in two divisions and nearly helping secure three.
Joining him in the hunt:
Kristen White — +5
Rheannon Fabrello — +7
James Feldhausen — +8
The sweep never happened.
But the Ratliffs made sure everyone noticed how close it came.
Week 7 Preview — The Sdonalyasna
Next week the hunt returns to Alcantra's long layout, with the new Hole 17 and Hole 18 joining the challenge.
Waiting there are the Sdonalyasna.
Dena'ina stories tell of strange fur-covered beings that imitate voices and songs to lure victims away. They look almost human... but something is always slightly off.
After this week's near Ratliff takeover, some are beginning to wonder.
Jeremy wins B.
Jax wins D.
Jake nearly wins A.
Coincidence?
Or have the Sdonalyasna already arrived in the Valley wearing familiar faces?
If you hear something calling from the trees next week...
listen carefully.
The song may not be quite right.
