Firefighters Park Disc Golf Course Construction update ...
The baskets are all in albeit some are still being debated with the City Officials, the park walkers, and myself. I believe today we settled the last dispute. The affected holes, or the debated holes today were 3, 12, and 17. When one basket location gets tweaked, this causes a domino effect on where the tee pad needs to move, if they do, and of course not affecting an adjacent hole from becoming dangerous.
I fully expect somewhere down the road that a mulch walking path 5 or 10 feet wide will appear around the entire river and the retention pond where hole 6 now lives. As always, be cautious when walkers are nearby and avoid throwing until they are clear on all holes. This should be true on any course you visit.
We strategically put the baskets in first for us to throw at for a short period of time to gather intel on how safe the course is when its at full capacity. It is always easier to move a basket than a tee pad. A couple of areas quickly were identified as potential hazards and basket relocations as well as moving a tee pad or 3 are all being reviewed with the team. Again, I expect these moves to be finalized and approved this week.
Tee Pads were being removed today while I was out there. As tee pads get removed and new ones begin to be poured, it would be awesome to have a few volunteers out there putting on nearby baskets making sure "little Johnny" isn't out there signing their names on them while the cement is wet. Please contact me if you have the time and are able. The city has told me they plan on doing 4 or 5 tee pads a week. A total of 20 tee pads are planned including 3 short tee pads on the front 9 and 3 more on the back 9. This takes us to the end of July beginning of August before the course has all the tee pads poured, weather permitting. Signage is being finalized as well for each hole.
The course is going to remain closed for the time being. During the day when the city crews are out there, if you want to play the new layout, please avoid the holes where the crews are working.
Thank you all for being patient while the dust settles but in the end, the course should be safer around the pavilion, with the walkers, and of course, for all of us throwing discs out there. Change is difficult. The disc golf course at Firefighters is still on the same piece or acreage but there are new berms and a new river path so were were able to design a few new disc golf holes. Enjoy!
